6 reviews for Saltwater State Park
I remember going here with some friends.
You can camp here and there.
Love going on the beach to chill.
I was driving on I-5 and needed a place to stretch out my legs and give my dog some exercise. I saw a sign for this park and wanted to check it out. I just followed the sign that took me to a beach front area (and the other side..according to a sign...was a campground area). We took a short walk on the beach and on the paved trail. My dog- of course- was on leash according to the requirement for dogs in the park.
The beach is very rocky with lots of wood logs that have washed up the shore. My dog wasn't interested in the water- she just wanted to play ball. The view from the beach was very nice! I only stayed for a short time and headed back on the road.
Who the fuck writes a review about a park?! Jesus what a waste of time.
Starch-boy, our son, and I went here after picking up a great deal off of Craigslist, for a metal detector. It was easy to find, plenty of parking and WOW, such a nice beach!
Within a mater of minutes we found a nickel! Not bad, now we only have to find a few hundred more to pay this damn thing off....
Oh, we also found a buried Dr. Pepper can, full of sea-crap....after tossing the can in the trash we walked a short ways back to our truck. Upon walking up to the parking lot a park Ranger saw us and waved, I thought, "Wow, what a nice Ranger..." Then he parked his truck directly behind ours and ripped me for not registering at the park office and buying a metal detector's license, uh??? WTF?? I mean, cripes, we found a nickel and cleaned up your freaking park man! Shouldn't you be paying US for doing YOUR job???!! Sheesh.....
He let us go after a lecture on metal detecting fees and he was kind enough to let us keep the freaking nickel.... still... -1 for the lecture, I mean it's not like we found some large pirate booty or DB Cooper's missing money bag....

We have our Day Camp kids come here on a semi-regular basis and we love it. The kids are able to safely explore the beach finding crabs, seaweed, and sand-dollars (all are left on the beach!). There is also a large grassy area and lots of picnic tables - a great place to stop for lunch.
The park also offers a few overnight camping spots - all of which are first come/first served.
Some cool park history from its website - "The park dedication in 1926 included a peace effort to stop the bad feelings between the cities of Tacoma and Seattle. The park is located halfway between the two cities, and a hatchet is symbolically buried under a rock somewhere in the park. Much of the park we see today was built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930s."

I lived near here as a youngster, near enough to bike here with a group of friends from the neighborhood, through the woods. The woods are gone, and no 8 year olds should bike down these roads alone any more, but it's still a nice park. Camping can be loud with lots of airplanes roaring overhead, but it's the closest "in-city" camping place I can think of, just south of Seattle. The creek is great, the woods are lovely, dark and deep (yes, I ripped that off) and the beach is a great place to walk. This really is a better place for a one night stopover or a day trip with picnic.
