Consistantly good.  Rabia loves steak and this is usually at the top of the list for places to eat.  The crab appetizer is good.    I really enjoy the salad and soup.   The croutons in the salad are perfectly crunchy.  For steaks, the coconut and shrimp, rib eye, and porter house all have plenty of flavor.

Service is usually pretty good, and if there ever have been issues the manager has been known to give us a discount.

It's Saltgrass.  You get a consistently decent steak here for a decent price.  When I want a 20 dollar filet that won't make me gag - this is a good place for it.  They have great shrimp as well if you're not in the mood for a steak, plus other options (chicken, salmon, ribs) but I haven't tried anything else.  My parents love their steak and shrimp but I think their sirloin cut is atrocious.  The salads and soups are yummy, and I've not had a side there that I didn't like.

This particular time though, we were sat in an INSANELY loud room, where we had to shout at first to hear ourselves, but as tables left things got better.  My steak was overdone - not enough to send back, but definitely medium well and not medium.  The service was great and everything else was as expected - 3.5 stars if I could but I rounded down.

Tip:  most saltgrasses you can call ahead and put your name on the list if there is a long wait.  I forgot this time but it's saved me quite a few times!

Ok, I ate there a few weeks ago as part of my honeymoon, i didnt eat red meat tell about a year ago, now im obsessed with steak, i dont like pink meat at all though.. I ordered my steak well well done, no pink and got half though it and it was pink, i guess it was a manager walking around asked if everything was okay and my husband pointed out the pink meat he then asked me to put it on an extra plate and he went and tossed it back on the grill... i have my food managers licence, come on.. i could have done ANYTHING to that steak then your going to go put it back on the grill with other peoples? thats kinda sick...

Went today for the pops birthday, and he's a huge fan of this Saltgrass. I've been to this locatino a couple of times, and somedays have had outstanding service, while other days have had A-OK service. Today was one of those A-OK days.

Pops & I got the chicken fried steak lunch special, and mom got the baby back ribs. For being a lunch special, the portions were just right. However the taste wasn't anything special. Just another chicken fried steak that doesnt' come close in comparisons to ones back home.  Needless to say, it was still satisfying w/the side of mashed potatos. But looking over at my moms baby back ribs, I suddently wished I would have gotten them instead.

Now we went at approximately 2pm, so there wasn't any sort of wait or rush on things, but some of the staff just seemed uninterested and in their own world. Seems like when I've gone during prime busy hour we've gotten alot better service at Saltgrass.

Somethin tells me I'll be back in a week for the moms birthday, so if we do hit up the Saltgrass, I'll be hoping things take a turn for the better. And maybe next time, we'll actually get some birthday dessert. Cuz afterall, what good is a birthday lunch/dinner with out dessert.

I had another out of town friend visiting and for her last night here, she wanted steak (we drove from RR to Corpus Christ & back and she commented on how many cows they were--and apparently that made her hungry for steak). So, a winner with all of my friends from New England has always been Saltgrass--off we went!

Service was stellar during this last visit. Our waiter was very attentive and even took notice to what type of sweetener we used for our iced tea and proceeded to pull them out for us when he refilled our iced tea. When I asked for steak sauce, be unscrewed the cap for me. For a moment, I forgot I was in a TX chain restaurant!

My friend got the ribeye and said it was so good! I'm so glad she enjoyed her meal and my coconut shrimp and steak were delicious as always!

My lunchtime meal here was...Nyahhh, OK.  We had the French Fried Onions for an appetizer which were piled high and could have fed 4. They were great and we had to box up the left overs. I tried to top line Maudeen's Center Cut Fillet. It was pretty tasty but for the best fillet on the menu, I've had much better. The baked potato was just your ordinary fare.

I like that they leave a liter of ice tea on your table so you don't have to hunt down a waitress every 10 min for a refill.

Inside was friendly and casual with lots of wood everywhere. It gets pretty noisy when they are busy.

I'll have to try them again with hopes of an upgraded status but for now its an OK steak place...Texas Roadhouse seems to have them beat of steak quality and taste.

After waiting far too long to be seated I asked the hostess about the delay. They could not find our names or the number of our electronic beeper/pager that they handed me when we came in.

Strike One.

After being seated and placing our order they delivered our soup and salad. About 2/3 of the way through my potato soup I found a very odd shaped hair poking out of the soup in my spoon.

Strike Two.

The waiter apologized as did the manager. The food was very good as was the table service. When the bill came, they had not charged me for my meal.

All was forgiven, but with the two strikes I could not give more than 3 stars for this visit.

Outstanding steaks, outstanding salads, outstanding service.

Saltgrass is one of the most consistent restaurants I've been to.  There's often quite a wait at dinnertime (less so during our deep recession), but that's the only downside.

Probably my favorite steakhouse in the state.

One of the best steak I have tested in a very long time!!! It was sooooo GOOD that it melts in your mouth with every bite you take! Also, the Texas Rice... Yummm!!! But, I do have to complain that our waiter wasn't too happy about serving us since we didn't know what to order and took a while to get out order going since we were from out of town.. sheesh!

Driving from Driftwood to Temple and back, the ol Saltgrass sign is a welcome sight. I kinda looked for a decent place in the Belton/Temple/Salado metroplex but nothing looked very appetizing. Its an interstate corridor with an overabundance of fast food options.

On the way back Rooster and I hit the door around 1:45PM. We were instantly seated. The bread was somewhat lacking and I guess thats from the time of day I was visiting. The bread I had experienced in the past at this location during normal lunch hours was better. The bread brought to the table on this visit was a bit stale.

The ceasar salad as my starter really hit the spot. Crisp romaine, the perfect amount of dressing, paired with a good amount of crushed black pepper made the salad near perfect. My sirloin arrived to the table rare as ordered. The meat topped with a dollup of butter was a decent cut for the price ($12.99). The complimentary baby onion rings could have used a bit more time in the fryer in my opinion. The garlic mashed potatoes were on par with previous visits.

Service was friendly and attentive. She quickly removed my salad plate and swept up the bread crumbs left by little Rooster. My son actually ate about half of the bread in tiny bites along with his Oatmeal. I really like  this place and its been the restaurant of choice when I'm in the Round Rock area for the last year. For a chain, Saltgrass delivers a Texas size experience.

This kind of sums up how I feel about Saltgrass-Some coworkers and I went to Saltgrass for an interview lunch today because the wait at Chuy's next door was too long. I found this to be disappointing.  Yes, I'd rather eat at Chuy's than Saltgrass.

Our server was a sweet lady named Arby.  A few of our orders were not exactly right, like cheese on my baked potato when I just wanted butter,  and a handful of people in our party were missing drinks for a while, but her sweetness seemed to make that okay.

Typically I love bread and restaurants that serve bread before your meal but Saltgrass bread seems to be blah.  All of the flavor comes from the honey butter it is served with.

My steak was okay-I had to add salt and there was quite a bit of fat on it.  I was a little disturbed when I looked out the window and saw that we were next to a pasture with cattle.  Hello lunch, this is awkward.

Perhaps the best "chain" steakhouse in the Austin area.  Offers something for everyone at just the right price.

You have to come hungry, more than once I've been forced to take leftovers home to finish off later.  Large portions, HUGE appetizers and tasy Shiner Bock Beer bread make for very full tummies.

They offer call ahead seating which I certainly recommend unless you are going at a really off time.  Even without we've never had to wait more than a few minutes.

"Texas To The Bone" As I stroll up the horseshoe covered sidewalk, I have a great smile on my face. Saltgrass is Texas. The decor and murals on the wall are great...well, except it looked like the covered wagon and horses were traveling on concrete ...anyhoo, it's the food that's important....

While I don't think their steak or their lunch menu is as good as TXLC (Texas Land and Cattle)....it's still better than Outback...my steak was a bit chewy and I like mine medium rare, so it really shouldn't be...but I know for a fact that their chicken is juicy, super good melt in your mouth style...plus, the chicken tortilla soup is awesome and their salads are HUGE!. ..at least the one that came with my meal was...man, I didn't even finish it because I didn't want to get full....OH! and they put alot of ranch on my salad...when I ordered my salad I asked for extra ranch on the side.....I didn't expect to get one of those things you put gravy in....Needless to say, I was super duper happy! I had a big 'ol ranch party by myself....

The service was awesome! My glass never was empty, several waiters helped in serving our table (there were 7 in my party), and they changed the channel on the tv from the rodeo to the football game...at our request, of course...

Go and visit...hopefully, you won't be disappointed...

Based on the reviews here, I decided to go.

I ate at the bar and had the Steak K-Bob's based on someone next to me (who had them).  They were tender and very good.

Too, they make a great side salad as well!

Make the effort to stop by, especially if you like steak. Excellent variety, quality, staff and ambiance. A bit pricy, but it's worth the money.

I've been going to Saltgrass a lot lately. My best friend and I love to go there and split a filet mignon. It is a great deal and we enjoy the tender steak. I love the sweet potatoes, but I just have mine with plain butter...not the cinnamon gunk. The mushrooms you can get with your steak are not that great. I don't recommend them. The wait has only been bad once. The rest of the time we get in pretty quickly, but we usually eat early. The service is usually pretty good, but not stellar.

Not to start off on a sour note, but the first time I ate here, about 5 years ago, I went home and found myself with food poisoning which about 3 days later sent me to the emergency room.  Steak was GREAT, but definitely not worth an ER visit.  Against my better judgement, I was forced to eat here again for a baby shower about two years ago and avoided the steak and went for the baked potato soup instead.  I mean seriously, how can you go wrong with baked potato soup???  Obviously they didn't get the 411 on how to make it cause it was absolutely nasty.  I ate perhaps a total of 2-3 bites and pushed the bowl back.  It was truly aweful.  I hate to base a review on two meals, but when they only thing you can say is good is the bread, there's a problem.  Haven't braved them again and seriously doubt I will and though I'm sure there's good experiences out there, not sure it's a place I would recommend as there are better steak houses out there that haven't sent my stomach turning.

Great steaks, great drinks, and great sides for good reasonable prices. I love the medium rare steaks from this place! The sauteed mushrooms are totally worth an extra $4.50 from there.
