I've been going here for a few years now. I started with Gabriel but sadly he left about a year ago and I'm now with Mindy. I was hooked on this place after my first visit...the visit starts off with a conversation about what you want with your hair & the stylist talks you through everything. Then you get the scalp massage, head over to get your hair washed with more scalp massaging AND a hand massage. They even clean your jewlery for you. Mindy is great, she's always got great ideas for my hair (which is good since I never know what I want).
Besides selling the Aveda products, they also sell the Aveda makeup. Mindy happens to be the make-up artist and will do your makeup for you if you ask.
They also have a massage room but I haven't used it so I can't review that part. They are open late during the week but I've always gone on Saturdays, Mindy never seems to be running late so I never have to wait! It is a bit on the pricey side for a haircut (about $65 plus tip) but I come out feeling great!
Just an update, I had to go back to show them how my hair was messed up. The stylist I met with agreed the cut was done improperly and offered to trim it up and fix it. I allowed her to do this but it resulted in my hair being cut shorter, which was not what I wanted.
As far as the color, she wanted me to go back to the girl who messed it up and give her a chance to fix it. Um, I think not... So she offered to have someone else fix. They would only refund my haircut money. At this point, I am so afraid they will mess it up further, I have decided to leave it alone. Now I get to let it grow back, pay someone else to fix the color, and I am still out over $100. What a mess.

First of, let me start by saying I am not usually compelled to write bad reviews. You can see that… Read more »
I think it's official, I finally found a stylist that loves my curls (WAY MORE) than I do.
I walked in on a Thursday for an impromptu discussion with someone at the front of the salon, because I was interested in hearing about their approach to styling. I've been going to the same stylist since 2006, but I felt that it was time for a change since I was traveling to Sacramento for every cut and color in the past few years. I was able to schedule with Jennifer Farrell at Salonamour for a next day appointment because she had a cancellation.
Jennifer was really sweet and attentive. I love that Aveda concept salons include a certain amount of care and attention toward their clients. Jennifer smartly talked me out of chopping my Medusa mane off, and she convinced me to go with a more flattering do.
I'm so happy with the results, and my hair is loving the Aveda products. I can't wait to go back in a few months!
I had to think long and hard about whether to reveal my secret hair rockstar to the world. Do I really want people to know that Mary Braswell at Salon Amour is the best colorist and stylist on this planet?!? If people knew how phenomenally awesome she is, I may NEVER get an appointment with her again ... nope, not gonna risk it.
Oh okay ... after an exhaustive search at some of the highest priced salons in the east bay, I have spent the past EIGHT years with Mary ... that's longer than my marriage!
We have been from blonde to purple, conservative to radical and everything in between! I LOVE this woman! Every friend I have referred to her has become a loyal client ... they even travel from the city just to get a haircut! Mary is gold, and if she ever stops doing hair then I'm shaving my head bald ... period.
I'm giving this salon 4 stars because I get my eyebrows and lip waxed by Brittiny who does a GREAT job. If you want a good esthetician who knows what she's doing and won't screw your face up, go to Brittny! She's super sweet, friendly, and very thorough, and I'd definitely recommend her.
BUT.....I first heard about salonamour from my sister and my mom, who both go there and get their hair cut by Jenn Lam. After hearing about their good experience, I decided to have my hair cut by her too. I've had my hair cut by her twice, which was ok, not spectacular, and I really wanted to like her since my family members do, but both times she just seemed to have a real attitude with me. Don't know what it is, since I've been very friendly, maybe she just didn't like me for some reason, don't know, but needless to say I probably won't be seeing her again.
The receptionists have always been very friendly and attentive,
so while I wouldn't recommend the stylist, I'd still recommend the salon and Brittiny for a wax :D
Andrea is absolutely the best stylist I've ever had. She's willing to take risks but always makes sure you are okay with it. She has thick hair just like me so she knows how to work with my big hair.
She does excellent color too! We've been building a wonderful color style into my hair and I don't dare buy the store bought stuff...I'd rather give up Starbucks for a month to make sure I get Andrea to do my hair.
The staff is very knowledgable and I feel you could go to just about anyone there and feel good. They've all trained under Susan Falcon who is quite genius.
Plus, being an Aveda salon it smells heavenly. Make sure to call in advance to get your appointment. Another stylist I really like there is Jen Lamm.
I checked out Yelp before booking my appointment, and was not dissapointed. First of all, EVERYONE knows that it's IMPOSSIBLE to find a good stylist when you need one. I just moved to the area, and after a DISASTER at another salon, I came here for a fix.
At first it looks a little sketch for Walnut Creek. But that's ONLY the outside of the building. The second you step foot in the door, you just feel relaxed.
My stylist was Amada, and she was great. She was very attentive, and really cared about what I was looking for. She understood everything, and even wrote everything down in case I was going to come back. She gave a great hand massage, and the whole experience was relaxing, comforting, and I came out with a great cut, and color.
The ONE downfall (and why they dont get 5-stars) is the fact that I have unruly, curly hair. I usually blow dry straight, and then use a straightener. She didnt have time, so she was going to style it curly. I dont think she has done too many clients with curly hair because I came out with WAY too much product in my hair. It was fine, but next time I will just make an appointment and make sure she has time to style it right. Who wants to walk out of salon with less than perfect hair?
But overall, Amanda was young, stylish, and knew what she was doing. I will be back.
I have serious commitment issues when it comes to a stylist. I was ready for big change but didn't really have a salon or stylist that I could trust. A friend of mine mentioned that there was an Aveda salon in Walnut Creek. I was sure she meant Leeza that closed awhile back. So I went online and found Salon Amour.
I called to schedule a cut & color for that week and was able to get an evening appointment but only for a cut. About four hours later, I get a call back saying that Gabriel had a cancellation and he could now do color. I was shocked that receptionist was thoughtful enough to call me back.
I went in with an idea and pictures and still we talked for 10-15 about the cut & color that I wanted. Gabriel explained how the hair would frame my face and what length would be best. When it came to color, he was very real about what type of maintenance I was willing to do. Then the moment that shocked me beyond all belief: before touching my hair with color or scissors, he showed me the price of the cut & color!!!! I almost wept for joy. I had an issue with a stylist that was always charging different prices, so this meant the world to me.
While the color was setting, I got an amazing hand massage. Also the scalp massage while washing was pretty nice too. The overall cut and color were so great. I have been getting compliments nonstop, it's easy to do, and most importantly, I absolutely love it.
They even called to a week later to check in. It was worth every penny.
From a guys perspective, Salonamour was simply amazing. First class service... Head massage, hand massage, Attentive staff. The reason why guys should go here for their haircuts vs. some cheapo haircut is because the stylist actually helps you decide on what the best haircut is for you.
Andrea B. is the person who cut my hair and it literally has been the best hair cut I have ever gotten. All guys should go to her because she understands how to cut guys hair and shows you how to style it.
I went after my fiancée convinced me to go before our wedding and I can't imagine going anywhere else now. :)
I was desperate for a new/better hair stylist to help me through my "growing out" stage, and decided to try Salon Amour after reading all these great reviews. I am happy to say, they were all right on the money!
Customer service was superb and non-pretentious from the first phone call I made for my appointment, to the "Thank You" card I just received from my stylist yesterday in the mail!! Furthermore, both my stylist, Andrea, and the receptionist told me that all their work is guaranteed, so I should feel free to let Andrea know if I need any adjustments to my style after I get home! Very nice.
Andrea is one of the newer stylists there, and she is just wonderful. I really appreciated how closely she listened to me during our initial 15 min. consultation, and then how she followed through with exactly what we had discussed, and nothing else! *This was a welcome change from my past stylist, who always had disturbing "surprises" up her sleeve that I would discover, to my horror, at the END of the cut.* While Andrea was cutting my hair, she always told me what she was doing, with what product, and why. And instead of pressuring me to buy all their products, she helped me understand which products I'm already using are actually ok for my hair and didn't necessarily need replacing...so then I felt inclined to buy a couple Aveda products to complement what I've already got--and believe me, I am the last person to usually buy the salon products, but I really felt comfortable about it and like I understand why these products are helpful. (WHICH THEY ARE! I've been getting great results with the Damage Control spray and my new shampoo!)
Anyway, I really can't rave about Andrea or this salon enough. And furthermore, since Andrea is newer, her prices were lower than some of the others. YAY! double YAY! (I believe their scale is between about $55 and $95??)
Oh, and yes, I did get the wonderful scalp massage and hand massage. I am so totally spoiled now.
This is a great salon!!
Salon Amour is probably one of the hands down best salons I have been to in Walnut Creek. Love all the stylists there, ultra friendly. Only thing is if you stick with a stylist for a while, it gets a bit pricey. Besides that I love my stylist Jenn L. She's awesome and listens to what I want. Definitely recommend the place!!
I've always wanted to rate my stylist Cindylou, and Salonamour, five stars, but quite frankly, I've been afraid the word will be "out" about how great she is and then I won't be able to get any appointments!!! But I have to tell everyone how great this salon and Cindylou are - the salon sets the prices, and all the other reviewers are right... it's not cheap. But I believe you get what you pay for with haircuts and Cindylou has never let me down after 5+ years. The receptionists are nice, always greet me by name (genuinely), and of course, I love the hand and scalp massage I get every time I go. Cindylou is one of their senior stylists and she's worth every penny - she really listens, but also offers her expert opinion which always results in a great cut and/or color. Also, when I was VERY pregnant with twins and not feeling at all attractive, they called me out of the blue and told me to come in for a complimentary pedicure - SO NICE!!! If you want a relaxing experience to go with your fabulous cut and/or color, Salonamour is the place to go. If you want a cheapy cut, stick to Fantastic Sams. (By the way... I too, finally convinced my husband to go there after many years of pleading and now he loves it too and he used to be that guy that wouldn't pay more than $14 for a cut!)
My visit here was a nightmare. They botched my color and my cut. It's been 8 weeks, and I'm still trying to grow it out. On top of that, they charged me extra to flat iron my hair, since they couldn't figure out how to blow it out straight. My advice? Find another place!
Sounds like Salernitana B. had such an awful experience! Mine was the exact opposite.
First - I'd like to point out that the lady is right, don't try to park in their lot, it's too tiny. There is, however, a wealth of covered parking right across the street - so don't sweat it.
Second - Brittny did an amazing eyebrow wax for me and my facial was so relaxing, I'm definitely coming back regularly to see her. She was really great about explaining the whole process and helping me pick out products to correct trouble spots. My skin has never looked better.
Third - I was seen right away and the customer service by all employees was great. I even had a follow up call about a week after my appointment to see how I was doing with my products and the after effects of my facial/wax. I love that!
I've been to the Aveda salon in SF but love this one so much more.
I've been going to Salon Amour for years to get my haircuts, I think they're great! I almost never have to wait, even if I show up early. Everyone who works there is so nice and friendly. The stylists that I've had have all been excellent and they do a great job every time.
@ Salernitana B., they have a satisfaction guarantee, if you weren't happy you should have said something. As with any place you go some of the staff is better at what they do than others. I wouldn't say that I've had anyone I didn't like, I just like some more than others.
I have been frequenting this Salon for 5 years. Cindy Lou has been my colorist but when she is unavailable I have seen other colorists with the same great results. My hair was in poor shape from being colored with harsher products at other salons. This team of experts fixed me and I am constantly complimented. Sure, a little pricey, but I wear my hair everyday! The ambiance is wonderful and the snooty factor absent. These are real professionals that care about the comfort of the client and the quality of the products and services. Go. You won't be disappointed. As for parking - come on, this is Walnut Creek. Look around and give yourself a few extra minutes.
I have been going to Salonamour since 2003 to get my hair done. Its great. I know Susan trains everyone before they are allowed to even touch a clients head. Right now Jenn Lam is rocking my hair style. I have to say, she is awesome.
As for Salernitana B. who is talking about about the esthetician, they are not talking about Brittny, I don't even think she was there at the time. Anyone who goes to the salon is constantly asked if everything is OK and a detailed consultation happens before the service is performed. Sounds to me like someone just wanted to get on-line and be a cry baby. Next time speak up, everyone is super cool and would have either fixed it or given your money back.
I started going to Salonamour a couple months ago and all I have to say is that I'm so happy I decided to go there. Jenn is the best and she gets my haircut right everytime. She listens and offers small suggestions here and there. Another plus is that parking has never been an issue which is often a problem in WC.
Not that Salonamour needs another 5 star rating - but here it is! i love them - they fixed my "bowl cut" i got at another salon into the a-line bob i wanted. They now have my patronage and thanks for making me look like myself again. I would say it's one of the best salons in the east bay - a true hidden gem.
The best Aveda hair salon around. I have been a loyal client for many years and love the staff at Salon Amour. You will never be disappointed. I have experienced many great haircuts, color services, massages, and pedicures at Salon Amour. Their knowledge and products cannot be beat.
Cindy Lou is the best! I have been going to her for more than 10 years now. Even though I moved away from Walnut Creek - I still drive more than an hour each way to get my hair cut from her. (Including a trip from Washington DC just to get my hair cut by her!)
I must say that I am suprised that there aren't that many reviews!!
Well heres my review....
I am a usual at Aveda salon in San Francisco(Chakra) My stylist is Thomas, I love him, But super expensive....$90 for a cut plus $20 tip....i don't make that much!!! Also live in the east bay, so had to take bart all the way over there. So i wanted to try the Aveda salon in walnut creek, and I must say I really liked it.
First, Mindy, gave me a scalp massage...a real one! Chakra barely gave a scalp massage. Then she gave me a hand massage. She listened to what i said and what i wanted, what more can you get? Also, its less expensive, which always makes me happy!!!
Mindy was great to talk to, she was young, and me and her had plenty to talk about, she was just like talking to a friend!!!
Also, i just got a card from her from the mail, and she thanked me for coming and hoped i enjoyed it! Very good customer service also!!
One's at chakra are kind of snobby!!
