First let me say that I started going to Salon V after my brilliant friend and long time pedicure genius Lori started working there. She is amazing, and for the longest time I would go on Fridays during lunch and have an amazing pedicure and um....nap. Yes, they are that good.
I recently had to get my hair done somewhere else due to schedule conflicts/pricing at my old salon and gave Julia a try. Seriously - that girl knows her stuff. Even though I don't love the whole Aveda thing I think my hair is actually healthier - so maybe there is something to this natural stuff.
The products that I've been using have made a huge difference. Rather than just getting compliments on my hair the day I have it done I actually get compliments for weeks, and I'm going in for touch ups less often.
All in all - a great place, with people that know your name. It's a smaller salon, and the only downside is that I get tickets - although it's my fault for parking illegally - hate Depaul.
it's been 3 weeks and i'm still not cursing my hair...
GREAT sign! added bonus that not only am i still loving my hair but i'm still getting compliments as well. it's been a long while since i've had fun doing my hair in the morning and i credit david for helping that become a reality. i admit that i was completely OUT of it when i walked in 3 weeks ago after being referred to david by many girls from a networking group. i basically told david to do whatever he wanted to my hair and didn't realize that he had chopped my hair until i got home. i left the next morning on a flight for denver and with extreme lack of sleep, was able to pull off a cute 'do each day of my vacation and to this day.
i think the cuts range in price and david is one of the veteran stylists so he costs a bit more than i'm used to spending. it's worth it though and i'll be back!
I LOVE Salon V! Julio does my haircut and always gives me a great cut, even if I don't have a photo or anything. He does an awesome job, always!
Kacy does my color, and she's awesome as well. She's super friendly and fun.
I would recommend both of them to anyone, and do! Salon V is just a great atmosphere. Love it. Oh, and the scalp massages they give you are a great perk as well! Go here!
i cannot stress enough how much Salon V was my SAVING GRACE tonight!!!
Long story short, i have my engagement photos tomorrow, and like any other bride, I wanted to get a really nice mani/pedi. so i had scheduled an appointment for one for this evening at K. Paige salon, which is across the street from Salon V. Again, long story short, K. Paige screwed up my appointment (you can read my review I wrote on them), and i was left on the street in hysterics because there was NO way i could take my engagement photos tomorrow in the condition that my hands and feet were in!
After finally calming down a bit, i crossed sheffield hoping i could find a salon that would take me at last minute - that's when i saw Salon V. i FOR SURE thought they would never take a walk-in, and almost didn't want to go in because i didn't want to get mad again. But i decided to try, and i am soooo glad i did!!!
The guy at the desk was super nice and while they couldn't fit me in for a full mani and a full pedi, he went to go talk to the technician (lori) to see what exactly they could fit me in for. He came back apologizing that they only had time to do a mini pedi or a mini mani, but not both, and not their full service. i took the mini pedi - i ihad to take what i can get!! there was no way i was going to take my engagment photos tomorrow with dirty and scuffed up feet!!
So Lori took me in and asked how my day was. i was still very angry about k. paige salon, so i told her the deal. Lori felt so bad for me that she said, "what? your engagement photos are tomorrow?? no! you canNOT just have a pedi tonight, we HAVE to do your hands too!" when i told her that it was really ok and whatever they have time to do, she said, "we'll see what i can do..."
She very quickly did my feet, but still did a FANTASTIC job on them, and said, "c'mon, i'm going to do your hands now!" feeling bad, " i said, no, i know you still ahve another appointment", she INSISTED that i get them done, because God forbid i take my engagment photos with undone nails!! c'mon now, the photos would be all over my hands with my engagement ring!!
ohmigosh, lori was amazing! to have done such a WONDERFUL job on my hands and feet, and to take me in at least minute, and to insist on giving me services that were much needed for my photos tomorrow, on top of being so busy with other customers who were waiting... oh i cannot say enough about her!
i went into salon v in desparate need of help, and i came out with a salon that i will FOR SURE be going back to! Because of the wonderful service lori gave me - bending over backwards to make things right for me - i will definitely go back for their full mani/pedi service, as well as try out their hair services!

A little over a year ago, I went to Salon V to have a horrendous cut and color (done by someone not associated with Salon V...) fixed. What J. did was amazing. The best cut/color I've ever had - very flattering.
Since then, it's gone waaay downhill.
One of the receptionists is quite rude, over the phone and in person - and believe me, I'm not intimidated by Lincoln Park snottiness, but she was ridiculous. The stylists are far more interested in talking and goofing off with each other than paying attention to their clients - which is fine for a little while, but for the entire hour and 45 minutes I'm there? Every three weeks? Come on. And they also seem to overbook on a regular basis - I was ten minutes late one time because I couldn't find parking to save my life, and they couldn't fit me in again until three hours later. And I can't count the number of times that the stylists, but more often my own, has had another client there at the same time me as me. Unprofessional.
The last three times I have been, I've tried to get a cut that will flatter my growing out bob, and J. (my once amazing stylist) has given me a cut that I've had to have fixed every time. I mean, it looked like a mullet one time. No joke.
For the amount that they charge, I should be receiving better service - I definitely will not be going back.
This is seriously the most unpretentious, welcoming and talented salon in Chicago. Meredith was even on this last season of 'Shear Genius'.
Kacy does my color and David does my cut. I've known many of the stylists for years and years. They're all really great people that truly love what they do.
I recently also had the best facial I've ever had there.
I have thick, natural (afro) hair. I went in one day, randomly, because I've been looking for someone to do my highlights, but I will only use Aveda color! I went back for my appointment on March 27th and Kacy did a fabulous job! I now have beautiful brown hair with gorgeous honey colored highlights. My hair looks fabulously sunkissed.
Salon V has a nice environment and Kacy made me comfortable with conversation and a great hand massage while my toner set! She even gave me some great tea to sip on!
I love it and I will be going back!
I followed Teddy to Salon V--he does a great job cutting hair and is also just a really cool person. I always enjoy chatting with him while he cuts my hair. The salon itself is also very nice. Very small but cozy and they do the whole Aveda thang which means nice cups of hot tea and scalp massages. It's a great place to go and they can always get me an appointment within a week when I call. I have never had a bad haircut here!
i am a regular client of salon v. i think the staff is great, regardless of what another user said. the staff is not snobby! they are very welcoming.
i don't go anywhere else for cut, color, nails, or products!
word of advice: go to the higher level stylists
I love love love this place. Teddy is the best stylist I've had in years. I'm also a big fan of the scalp massages. Good prices and they always have some sort of coupon thing going on. Can get an appointment usually the next day. I haven't had anything other than a haircut here, but will continue to go here until Teddy leaves. Nice atmosphere, good Aveda products, good music, good conversation. Overall 5 stars.
This is one of the best places to talk hair, relax and trust the results!
I've been a fan of Aveda for a while so tried out several options in the area. Aveda will treat your hair kindly so you can play with color and celebrate results! Veronica and staff go with the flow in the right ways! I leave Salon V feeling inspired and with a bounce in my step. Check out the charming back patio and even a little glass of wine during the process. One of the best finds in Chicago!
I was here for a special event. Kacy, David, and Kristin did a great job showing our group some new hair, skin, and makeup trends for spring. I walked away with the cutest casual updo and a pretty new lipstick color. ALSO there were brownies and wine. Win! The space is very relaxing and smells so yummy due to all the Aveda products they sell in the front. I will definitely keep Salon V in mind for future services.

So I'll keep it short and sweet. I went last week to my regular stylist, julie, and received the best cut and color of my life. My hair is curly and no stylist really gets what I mean when I saw I want and need a cut that looks good curly and straight. She totally nailed it. I've gotten at least three compliments on my hair daily since I got it done.
It would be 5 stars if it were cheaper because I am not made of money. Like if it were free that would be nice.
Let's keep this place on the DL so it doesn't become to hard to make an appt. and doesn't get more and more expensive?
