Duschan is AMAZING!!! I started going to Salon U after reading an article in Allure Magazine. From the first phone call, the staff has been nothing but friendly and professional. I constantly get compliments about my highlights and haircut. Though the kudos are much appreciated, I must give all the credit to Duschan. He's always friendly and likes to try different cuts and styles. Hell, he even talked me into getting bangs!! Don't forget to utilize the *free* parking behind the Apollo theatre across the street.
What a great recommendation by Lauren D.! I had a fabulous experience here and will definitely be going back. I love the vibe of the salon and Sue was amazing. She knew exactly what she was doing, especially when it comes to blonde highlights. I am very picky about highlights and she did an awesome job. Next time I will for sure get a full head of highlights, but first I need a haircut and I trust Sue to do that too.
They were doing a lot of hair styling too... so maybe a good place to get your hair done for weddings, etc.
And they only accept cash tip!

I had gotten a haircut that I really didn't like after some silliness and stupidity, and I was totally miserable with the way it looked, but I saw Dhanna today and I am so relieved, and my hair looks worlds better.
I was really down in the dumps because of it and I am so thankful to her for giving me a haircut that I really like, and is so much fun.
The facilities of Salon U are totally beautiful, not like any salon I have seen, and everyone I encountered could not have been sweeter.
I will definitely be back to see Dhanna again is my hair grows out.
This place is near my house.. after walking past it a few times and then needing a haircut I decided to give it a try, First up was a bang trim. These are complimentary for customers who get their haircuts there but since I just walked in it was $11. A little expensive but I don't mind paying more to get a good job done. Dalia cut them and did exactly what I wanted! They were very welcoming and friendly, offered me water/soda/wine/beer.. lots of magazines to look at while I waited. However I didn't wait long.
Since Dalia did a good job on the bang trim, I figured I'd go ahead and schedule an appointment for a real haircut. Dalia was great.. I told her what issues I had with my hair and she had several ideas to help. The haircut was great! I'll definitely be going back!
Dalia is more expensive than the some of the other stylists there because she's a haircut educator. Regardless.. A haircut goes with you everywhere! I think its totally worth it to pay more for a cut you KNOW will be good. I KNOW Dalia will give me a good haircut! Since I wasn't worried about getting a bad haircut I don't feel anxious about my haircuts here.
HIGHLY recommended.
This place is the sh*t. I am so happy I came here. These people have customer service down to a T. I had a crappy day yesterday. No one was available to drink so at 6pm I decided I was gonna chop off my hair. I yelped for local salons and came across this one. called at 6:03 to see if they could squeeze me in and I got at appointment at 7pm! Not only did I get my haircut, i got my wine too. I am now a customer for life and promise to keep my haircut. Lets get down to the important stuff:
Pros:
-first timers mention Yelp and get free deep conditioning treatment
-beverages galore--wine, lattes, soda, tea, amstel light, etc.
-beautiful salon
-these people will be your new best friends. They take their time and really care that youre happy there. The owner, Mark, checked in on me multiple times to make sure I was comfortable, and my wine glass didnt get too low.
-uber friendly
-location---right next to Trim wax (I can get all my "maintenance" taken care of within one block)
-Dhanna and Mark. Big sweethearts.
Cons:
-Slightly pricey but fully worth it. $51 for women's haircut.
-I cant come everyday
PS--They have a referral program. I can get you 20% off your first cut with Dhanna.
My sister recommended that I visit Sue at Salon U because she was so thrilled with her hair cut. I thought, how good can a hair cut really be? But nonetheless made an appointment for last Friday and let's just say I'll never go anywhere else!
Really great salon - Sue is amazing for both cut and color and knew exactly what she was doing. I don't think you can go wrong here.
Two of my friends come here for their haircuts and color, and have always had a great experience. I got a haircut with Dhanna and could not be happier. The last place I went to messed up my haircut, she did such a great job fixing it. The salon is really nice and has free parking. All of the staff were really helpful, I will keep coming back.
Even though I barely make $200 a week at the moment (unpaid internship and nannying,) I basically have a savings account JUST to go to Salon U.
I try to go about every 2 months because I just love how well Dhonna does my hair. Amazing color. She's not afraid to make suggestions if she disagrees with my ideas...
The whole experience is great. Good drinks (espresso machine, quality teas, red bull, beer, wine, champagne), personal iPods, a plethora of magazines, etc.
Every person that works here seems genuienly nice. I've come in on my last two birthdays to get my hair cut and they always pop the champagne to celebrate!
The owner (I believe) even let me take his umbrella home because I was walking after it started raining during my appointment (I came back the next week to return it, promise!)
I could go on and on about how great they are...
This place is wonderful! Mark does a great job of making you feel welcome when you walk in. Sue does a great job at listening to what you want, and then working with you to make your hair great!
I've only been here 1 time, so I don't know them well enough for 5 stars yet. Maybe I will update after another visit! Anyway, I saw Shirley- she was so nice, laid back, but did an amazing job.
First a little disclaimer- I haven't had my hair cut in 6 months because I've been too scared to try a new place. My hair is thin and SO easy to cut, so I don't know why I was scared, but I was. I expected to hear about how bad I am and my hair so gross... Shirley and everyone at Salon U were completely understanding and instead of making me feel bad, made me feel great about being there.
About the experience- I arrived and they immediately offered me a drink, a seat, and some magazines. One of the owners even asked if I wanted more magazine selection (maybe he saw that I was looking at a Seventeen magazine and felt sorry for me? ha!) Anyway, Shirley came over and introduced herself, sat me down, asked me what I wanted, and then washed my hair! She really "got it" when I kept saying I didn't want a drastic change but something still a little different. My husband even noticed a change when I got home- which he never does! I was so happ that she took the time to ask me questions before she started and then again before she started adding texture. It came out great and I already booked my appointment to go back!

Oh how I love Salon U.
I followed my stylist Joel from the last salon he worked in, even though it is farther away from my apartment and - boy oh boy - am I glad I did.
The salon itself is stylish and clean, but the service is what really shines.
From the moment you make your appointment, to the courtesy phone call the day before to remind you, to your check in where you are offered the drink of your choice, to the fun conversations all around you, this place is just great.
I am particularly impressed with Joel. He gives me a slightly different cut each time I am there because I always want something different. But here is the key to his talent: he never gives me more of a cut than I want. It is always just perfect in its execution without being over the top or too much.
I am super picky about salons. I have hair that is hard to cut and expect a good deal of service for a $40 men's hair cut. But the only thing I would say is a negative is that you cannot leave your tip on a credit card. Small potatoes compared to the positives.
I get my hair cut and highlighted by Stephani - absolutely wonderful. And Michelle at the front desk is great. They offer you a beverage (including wine or beer) when you get there, take your coat, make you feel welcome. Totally worth the few extra bucks.
Salon U is awesome! Shirley did a great job and really listened to what I was looking for. She was friendly and cut my hair so it not only looked great when I left the salon, but also when I did it myself the next day. I agree with everyone else, the overall experience is fabulous.
I have only been here for a bang trim (followed my stylist Stephanie from another salon) but I had a great experience. When I came in everyone was very friendly and offered me a drink. I watched some closed-caption friends while I waited a few minutes then headed over for my cut. The salon has an open layout with the stylists on open stations instead of little "cubes". The decor is cute and the hair dryers that hang from the ceiling look really cool as well as being practical! I've got a cut from Stephanie before and my friend uses her for natural-looking highlights on her curly hair, so she is great with both cut and color. Salon U feels upscale while still being casual and not intimidatingly posh.
I love Salon U! I recently got married and between showers, engagement party, rehearsal dinner, I was there almost every week this summer! First of all, you walk in the door and they immediately offer you drink... And I am not talking water. They have complimentary wine, beer, soda, coffee, you name it they offer it. The salon itself is a great size. Not tiny, but small enough that you see everything going around you and are not over whelmed. My stylist Stephanie is amazing. She is always on time and makes sure to schedule enough time that she isn't rushed. I get highlights every four weeks and look forward to spending time at Salon U!!!
i thought this place was pretty good. i used to have really long hair and i got about 7 inches cut off recently. i'm overall happy with the haircut. it's a little shorter and layered a little more than i wanted but it'll grow out soon. they offer drinks so i went with champagne - i wish they would have offered it before i got my hair cut because it's not a great idea to try and drink while you're getting your hair cut...
i'll probably go back here but maybe to a different stylist.
It was love at first sight! A friend recomended Dalia and she is fabulous! She is very upbeat and really wants to know what you like/dislike/ and are looking for in a hair cut.
The salon is super clean and everyone is very down to earth and professional.They offer you wine/coffee as you wait or while you get your hair cut. On one occasion the women at the front desk couldn't check me in right as I walked in the door so I recieved a Starbucks gift card.
Update! I went to Shirely and she is great too.
I followed my stylist Joel here from another salon -- I'll always love him but I love this new location so much better. They offer champagne, coffee, water, juice while you're waiting for service/during your cut, etc. and even give you video ipods to watch while your highlights or color is drying. Its a very relaxing, friendly atmosphere, yet sassy and fun -- plus they have extremely talented stylists.
Found this salon on Yelp for my recent visit to Chicago. Was a bit hesitant because I was going for a big change in my hair, But was very satisfied. Shirley gave me a fabulous skilled cut. I walked out looking exactly like the photo I brought in. The location is very easy to find. The staff was extremely friendly, serving hot tea, wine or any beverage you would like. They also have parking spots off street so ask about them when you call. Will be happy to return in a few months.
I just LOVE Salon U! I looked forward to coming to see Joel. He is excellent at hair color and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. He has a natural talent of giving you what hair color looks the best on you. In addition, Salon U has a great staff that is always so friendly and warm. I always leave Salon U with a big smile on my face!
I love Salon U! The Salon is in a great location, easy to get to, and there is always parking. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They work really hard to make you feel at home. I followed Joel from another salon...he is the BEST! Joel is super friendly and listens to what you want. He really wants you to look your best and works with you to create a great look. I cannot say enough good things about him..I have referred other people to him and they agree that he is fabulous! Like I said, I love Salon U..but I would follow Joel anywhere!
I came here and chopped off 14 inches for Locks of Love and loved my hair cut! I did not know what I wanted but the stylist worked with my features and gave me a kick-ass hair cut. I got compliments for weeks afterwards. Unfortunately, Lucy is no longer there but I just got a haircut from Sue and she listened to what I was looking for but also threw in her creative expertise to give me a really fun, stylish hair cut. Every time I've come here, I've left feeling awesome and look forward to my next visit.
