When I first moved from Delaware to Philadelphia, I would drive to my stylist in Wilmington every 5 weeks for a cut and color.  I had tried a couple of salons in Philly (from Saturn Club to Giovanni and Pileggi), but hadn't been able to duplicate the service and ambiance of my old salon.  Then I heard about Thalia.

To be fair, my first trip there was less than a total success.  They stylist I was given (a very nice, tattooed hipster) seemed to be trying to recreate his hairstyle on my head.  The woman being styled in the chair next to me had a multi-colored punk do and I began to question if Thalia was really for me.

But the atmosphere at the salon was exactly what I wanted:  light and airy, serene, comfortable and  inviting.  The staff were all very welcoming and professional.  So I decided to try again and asked for a different stylist.  This time, I got Wyatt and a year and a half later, I haven't made any more trips to Delaware!  Wyatt is sensational!  He takes a lot of time talking to you to find out what you are looking for and he's meticulous in his cuts, colors and styling.  He's so personable that I think of him as my friend - not just my stylist.  I never feel rushed with Wyatt - and he's not happy unless I'm happy with my style.  Best of all, not only does my hair look great when I leave the salon, it continues to look great when I style it myself.

Of course none of this comes cheap - I spend about $150 with tip on a cut and color.  Still, considering what I've spent elsewhere and ended up with bad hair to show for it, I'll stick with Wyatt and Salon Thalia.

After a terrible color experience at another salon, I was in desperate need of color correction.  Gerry Hebert really saved the day.  He is the quintessential professional.  Gerry took me in right away for a consultation.  When I arrived at the salon the first time, I was visibly shaken from my bad experience.  The receptionist was so sweet, and gave me a free lipgloss to make me feel better.  When I went back for my appointment with Gerry, he spent hours with me, patiently working on my hair to get it back to beautiful.  This was no easy task, and he never once appeared rushed, annoyed, or tired.  He did a wonderful job.  I will definitely keep going back.  I feel safe in his hands.

Only got a pedicure here, so I can only speak on that. Very professional environment, and very clean. Experience was very relaxing and my feet looked amazing! Located in the beautiful Curtis Center with flexible hours.
Everyone's hair looked good, so I'll be back to get my hair done!

So I get my haircut this morning, and its raining outside.  I go home, put some heat on my messed up shoulder (thanks a lot yoga) and go out in the rain to do more errands, look at a bike, have dinner, do yet more errands and... get $10 off a leg of lamb at the grocery store.  What does this have to do with my haircut?!  Well... the lady next to me - who also got leg of lamb - did not get $10 off her leg.  The difference?  I look ever so ravishing in my new 'do from Tiff.

LOVE this salon yes you will pay an arm and a leg and maybe even your first born, BUT anyone here will do an amazing job.  Very classy , Upscale, professional, friendly.  Too bad I live an hour away.......

Salon Thalia is about as good as it can get when it comes to this type of business.
Professional, courteous, and the best stylists EVER.
I've had the pleasure of getting my mopped chopped there on a couple of different occasions...and always had the best of results :)
It's got a big layout and a really cool vibe about the whole place.
I don't write many reviews, but I had to spread the word about Thalia.
A+

Salon Thalia is a great salon. They have a wide offering of services and stylists. I got my hair cut there exclusively for a couple of years and I do not have a bad thing to say about the place. I have, however, been swayed to Bang Salon, which really just can not be beat. I would not hesitate to recommend anyone to Salon Thalia.

ok so i'm the girl that carefully scours the internet for weeks to find the perfect hairstyle before i go into the salon (i want nicole richie's bangs, jessica simpson's volume, and rachel bilson's layers....)

after years of being disappointed by stylists who don't listen to what i want or give me "your hair is devine the way it isssss! i'll just give you a trim!" i finally came to salon thalia and met tiffany. this girl has got skills! she didn't even snicker at me when i brought in my photo of megan fox and told her "make me look like this!" instead, she played with my hair, talked to me, LISTENED to me, and after a lot of laughing and snipping, i ended up with the most amazing haircut of my life! i may not look like megan fox, but i could give her some serious hair envy. i will never go anywhere else!

the whole vibe of this place is classy but fun. i have been here for bikini waxings (flawless job) and even for lashes before a big new years party (they looked amazing!) this place rocks, and they definitely get my vote for best salon in philly!

I had a bad cut here on my first visit, a week before I was in a wedding, and I paid $50 for it.  I wrote about it on this site, and the salon immediately called me to talk about my experience.  They brought me back in and made my hair look great just in time for the wedding.  Michael was my stylist and he was fantastic.  I could not be more impressed by his service and by the salon's attention to customer satisfaction...that they cared enough to call me and make it right.

Getting your hair cut with a view of Washington Square is pretty high class. Most everything about this salon is high-class: the waiting room with flat-screen TV, modern-looking hair cut stations and only the best products (e.g.:Kerastase).

For nail coloring services, they brought me to a separate room with hanging silk fabric and a pillow-covered raised seat for pedicures. If you are getting a pedicure, they give you a water basin whose bottom is covered in stone and filled with flower petals. It's a cute little room that is completely cut off from the salon area, which makes it feel more like a spa.

This is also a great place to get a facial or skin treatment. However, from my experience they only had one room for facials/skin treatments. It would be nice if they had more.

Actually what would be nice is to get a Bliss Spa in Philly. Petition, anyone

Memories is the esthetician at Salon Thalia & she is AWESOME! I've gone to more than 15 places in the NY/NJ/PA area & for waxing and facials & Memories is hands down THE BEST! She's a character--super friendly & funny--& passing the time is a breeze.  I used to drive 40 minutes (one way!) to see her... but sadly, now that I've moved 1/2 way across the country it's not an option. If you're in the area, give her a try--your skin will thank you!

Note: In response to Caitlin C.'s review, by the last time I went (around May '07) they had opened another room (2 total) for hair removal & facials/skin treatments.

Love this place! I'm fairly new in town and was looking for a place to get a haircut. I'd recently been burned (bad haircut) and was a little nervous, but Michael at Salon Thalia totally got it right. I was a little nervous about the pricetag ($75), which was expensive for my budget, but it was worth every penny. It's looked great for a long time after the cut, and he really knew what he was doing. The front desk people were nice and welcoming, and the waiting area is nice and soothing. Highly recommend.

I had been meaning to try this salon out for a while but it just never happened for  various reasons.  You know how that goes.
Then one day I had a rather unfortunate outcome at a salon that I had been a sort-of regular.  Highly distressed I called Salon Thalia the instant I got home and scheduled a "re-do/fix-up" appointment.  Nope, I had never been to this salon so I wasn't sure they could fix my problem but I had a feeling they at least wouldn't make my hair look any worse.  I ended up with a hair stylist named Carolyn (who I will happily return to any day) & left immensely happy & feeling like I had finally found a salon which I could truly call my own.
The hair dressers here are professional, skilled & efficient in regards to giving you what you want.  I felt very comfortable & relaxed during my stay in Salon Thalia which is a gorgeous & classy space.  I would say it is probably one of the most beautiful salons I've been in.  I explained my hair dilemma to my hair dresser (which was mainly an issue of a bad dye job) & she was very attentive in giving me exactly what I wanted to see, all the while being careful not to let my hair get fried from fixing what I came in with.  In about half the time that it took to give me a terrible dye at the prior salon, I left Thalia with the platinum, purple & red style I originally wanted.

Salon Thalia also offers extensive spa services which I have yet to try, but will have within the next week.   Any change of heart or positive experiences in regards to their service will of course be added to this review.
