I'm an artist and very particular about my color and waxing. I come all the way here from North Hollywood for my color and wax! Worth the drive!
SENAIDA is the best. She gave me the most luxurious relaxing facial ever! I felt so deliciously pampered... wonderful aromatherapy, soothing oils, great accu-pressure massage of my head, shoulders, arms and hands. She took me to another place. Senaida didn't overwork my skin, and I left with my skin wonderfully hydrated and glowing, not red and scrubbed looking.
I can't wait to go back. What a treat!
Was looking for a new stylist since I recently moved to Pasadena. Was generally fearful of having someone cut my hair who (1) didn't know how to cut/style asian hair or (2) didn't care how my hair cut looked. I did some searching on yelp and decided to try Salon Sessions.
I had an awesome experience.
First, the salon itself is very cute. You walk in and are greeted by friendly faces. The decor is adorable and everyone is very welcoming.
Next, the stylist, Andrew, with whom I had an appointment with was simply awesome. He listened carefully to my concerns and really talked about what style would work well with my hair. When he did worked on my hair, I felt that he was very attentive and the results were exactly what we had discussed.
Finally, I walked out feeling just great. Although the price (for me it was $75.00) was a bit steep, it was WORTH IT and I will definitely come back!!!!! Thank you ANDREW! :)
Karissa is my go to girl for the most amazing Color and Styles. LOVE LOVE LOVE her!! She very sweet and professional. The salon atmosphere is high-end, and the location can't be beat.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. My former hairdresser was my roomate and she got married and moved to Seattle, so I was forced to find someone new. I'm extremely wary about getting my hair done because it's super thick and unless you know what you're doing, it's been butchered so many times.
I happened to have stumbled upon Salon Sessions by chance one day when I was looking for a local hair salon. I Yelp'd hair salons in the Pasadena area and came up with this place. Figured I'd give it a shot or look like a lion forever. The bonus is that it's about 2 blocks from where I work.
My appointment was with Azelle. She is amazing. She totally understood what I was looking for and did the job perfectly ... and quickly too. I have serious ADD and can't sit in a chair for longer than an hour, so I was thoroughly impressed that she shampoo'd, cut and styled my hair all in less than an hour. She is REALLY, REALLY great with thick asian hair.
I've already recommended her to a couple friends and they all agree that she's fabulous. If you're looking to change styles, or just need a simple haircut ... Azelle at Salon Sessions will definitely not disappoint!!
One more great thing about Salon Sessions is that you can schedule a bang trim appointment any time and it's absolutely free (well, plus gratuity of course). But that saves you trying to explain why your bangs are all outta wack on your next appointment ;)
It's a sanctuary for your hair. Prices vary per stylist, and it can be a bit of a wait if the stylist you choose is high in demand cough*Brenton. The reception desk is sure to greet you with a friendly smile and warm welcome (the people behind it, not the actual desk). There's a small cafe area where fresh coffee (and water!) is served, and a vending machine for those who - like myself - are consistently hungry.
The chick who washed my hair gave me an excellent scalp massage, and Brenton, who cut and styled my hair (1) talked me thru every product he used (2) cut my hair just as I liked, with fitting recommendations (3) styled my hair beautifully.
Will definitely be back!
I went to Salon Sessions because of Yelp. I went there last Friday 10/16/09. My appointment was with Ruth and she cut my hair. She did a really good job. I originally went there because the guy that cut my hair previously at a different salon, messed up the back of my hair and Ruth fixed it!! The only bad thing was the price. = / It was $95 for a hair cut. I mean, she did a really good job but that's kind of to expensive for me. Thankfully I'm growing out my hair, so I won't be needing another hair cut anytime soon, but when I do, I will go back.
Still amazing as ever!! I'm still going to Rachael to get my hair done and she never lets me down. What I love most is the consistency of this salon and how much time, care, and effort Rachael puts into my hair. Even if it's just a simple haircut she never rushes through it and always makes a point of talking to me in the very beginning about what I want and what her "hair plan" is for me.
And when I told her I was trying to grow my hair out she was so supportive (short-haired girls, you know what I'm talking about....it's a nightmare!!). The products sold at this salon are only the best and work wonders on my hair.....ladies (and gents)......the Kérastase products are expensive...but I promise you they're magical.
Salon Sessions is fabulous and I have absolutely nothing negative to say!!

Yes, yes, yes Yelpers - I sing the praises of Salon Sessions. Let me say (for a negative review I saw) that I have no vested interest in a reviewing this place positively or negatively. No one mentioned anyting to me about a discount for a review on Yelp. I'm just too darn tickled pink that I found a salon where I feel so comfortable that my complex, mind-of-its-own hair will be well taken care of. My hair can be difficult and I'm gun shy about going to hair stylists based on past, near-traummatic hair experiences.
Based on some Yelp reviews (thanks Darlyna and Daniele) I requested Brenton Lee. I'll admit that I was ready to throw up a yellow flag, just because he appeared so young. And actually, he is. But, I felt comfortable and really felt like my African American/Native American tresses were in confident, experienced hands. Not long after he started to talk to me about my hair and I could hear the experience in his assessment, I had not a hesitation.
So here's what I liked:
I expected some level of pretention because the salon is high profile - didn't get any of that.
Brenton gave me a tour and introduced me to the owners, stylists etc. Everyone was very nice.
I was offered snacks/drinks from the mini cafe - who can turn that down?
I thought the price was fair - wash, cut, style for $85.
Here's what I loved:
I've never had my hair come out with so silky smooth with so little heat applied.
Throughout the process, Brenton explained what he was doing and why.
He explained the rational behind the use of his products, never doing a hard sell.
He educated me on why my hair should be cut a certain length (different from what I originally wanted) and he made real sense.
This is definitely my salon of choice.
Brenton lee does a great job with my hair each time. I went from having retarded hair to a pretty nice stylish cut. Not over done or half done brenton does good work here.
The place itself is relaxing, and is easily found near old town. I especially like the personal touches. Coffee and tea, tvs and internet, couches and good service.
Parking can be tough on weekends, but otherwise easy to swing.
Pricing is good too considering it's a salon cut.

I go to this place regularly, and I can only speak for one stylist, because he is the only one I have had the privilege of experiencing.
The guy's name is Brenton. The guy is really, really impressive. I come in, say what I want, and he pretty much intuitively goes from there.
I am a bit hesitant to share Brenton, b/c then more people will schedule with him and may make it harder for me to get in when I want. I can't be selfish though, the guy is great at what he has done to my hair, so I figure others will like him too.
He really takes his time on the hair, and gets the smallest details, I hope he never stops doing that, because it just makes it the best damn haricut I ever hadve had, and since he takes his time, it often lasts a fair amount of time, which is sort of therapeutic. ALso, price wise, the hourly rate comes out to a pretty good deal! I give him my highest reccomendation for any guys hair, I don't really know how he is with females.
I don't know how to write this review without sounding like a complete nut case. I am utterly completely in love with my new hair stylist. Never mind the nice salon decor, the fancy drinks they offer you, and the nice lighting..the hair stylist I had Andrew was AMAZING. He spent three and half hours meticulously working on my hair like a piece of sculpture. He is so meticulous and has a vision in his head that he executed. I completely trusted him and my hair came out FABULOUS. I love it so much! You know how usually your hair looks good the day after because of the professional blow dry? well it's been three days and I still love my hair. Please please please go to this Salon and ask for Andrew!! He is my new favorite person ever!!!!
First off, the salon looks like a Starbucks, a fashion shoot, an art studio & a hair dryer all got together and had a baby. Its soo much fun! The service is great and the experience was more like a morning at a spa than at a hair salon ( picture watching Beyonce's concert on a giant screen while you get your hair washed..)
I adore Salon Sessions!
At first I was VERY apprehensive about coming here because I'm a black girl and not everyone knows how (or wants to) do our hair. But I called ahead and asked for a stylist who A) was comfortable with my hair type & B) Could transform my look with minimal hassle... As birthday gift, I wanted to go from medium length to a super short pixie thing. They scheduled me with Brenton Lee he truly is a gifted sweety pie!
I get a new look every time I go and if I decide to color, I'm confident that Brenton won't have me "lookin' a hot mess"...if only I could properly recreate my looks the next day :0/ ...
I make the drive from Santa Monica about every 6 weeks and its absolutely worth it!
Angela Le is my personal stylist for nearly two years now and i walk out of the salon feeling FABULOUS every time!
I am Asian with beautiful blond hair thanks to Angela! She's really talented so please go to her if you want to try out salon session!
I first came to Salon Sessions after a stylist at a popular salon in Burbank butchered my long hair into a shoulder length mushroom cut! She used a razor to cut my hair leaving it super thin and wispy on the bottom and giant on the top!! Not to mention she also died my hair BLACK and left me with a dye headband on my forehead and neck! I wanted to cry when I saw it and immediately began researching salons to get it fixed ASAP! I found Salon Sessions on Yelp and drove over immediately... Because I was a super last minute walk the only stylist available to fix my hair was a young newer stylist named Kenny Johnson. I was a bit skeptical at first but was assured that all of their stylists get a ton of training and to be honest I just wanted it fixed! Kenny single handedly saved my life! He gave me subtle highlights to gradually lighten my color without damaging my hair and fixed my cut for me. Because of the butcher job the other stylist did he had to cut my hair even shorter to even it out but I ended up with a super cute long bob ala Eva Longoria... Ever since Kenny saved my hair last year I have been returning religiously for cut and color. My hair has since grown half way down my back and is super healthy! Yayyyyyy!!!!!!!! PS. he is super funny and gives THE BEST scalp massage when shampooing.... Thanks Kenny!!
I went to Salon Sessions for the first time last week. I was also having engagement pictures taken that same night (didn't really have a choice to get pictures taken on the same day as getting my hair done). I wanted to try someone new, and based on all the Yelp reviews, Brenton seemed like a good choice.
I go in about 10 minutes early, was offered a drink and was told that he would be with me in a minute. The salon is very nice, clean (even had a lady in there mopping and sweeping the floors while I was there), which I appreciate.
When I finally get into the chair, it's about 10 minutes past my appointment time, which is fine, but usually I expect an apology from the stylist, which I didn't get and was kinda bummed about because I always run on time. Upon seeing Brenton Lee, for the first time, let me say that he is not what I expected. He is very young, just like all the other reviews stated, but also not Asian, which is what I expected with a name like Brenton Lee, which is perfectly fine, but I felt like I was mislead... :)
We talk about color for a while, I said that I wanted it darker than my base color, which is a dark brown. After he mixes the color for about 10 minutes, he comes back, we talk about color again, and he decides to go back and make the color darker, which takes another 10 minutes or so. He comes back, applies the color, and I wait...
The color came out a little darker than I wanted (could have been my fault with the explanation), but has great dimension and and is super shiny. He blew it out and styled it knowing that I had pictures that night.
When taking the pictures, my face looked really pale against the dark hair, I have an olive complexion, which I was bummed about. But, the photographer said he could tan me up a bit, which is great :)
Overall, I'm please withe service I received at Salon Sessions and with Brenton. Being that this was my first time having a guy do my hair, I was a little anxious, but all is well because he has a great personality and knows what he is doing. I had to take off one star because my hair was too dark, but I'll get over it, and also I was there for 3 hours (which is a little long). If this works out, Brenton and I will have a long lasting hair relationship, and maybe he will do my wedding hair as well!
HOLY MOLY.
This is the coolest salon I've ever stepped foot in. It's been a while since my last haircut... Everything from the huge mirrors hung up by chains, to the comfy chairs makes this the ideal salon. The decor is awesome and simply brilliant. They even have a photo shoot section for their other gigs at fashion shows and such. They definitely have their sh*t together.
I have long dreads that were getting heavy and uncomfortable. (no they're not dirty!) Josephine "Jo" sat me down and trimmed it up so that it forms a cascade. I was extremely pleased:) She even sketched out the way it was going to look to ease my nerves. I walked out with lighter and cooler dreads. Now they've grown out and look even better!
Addicted to change, I am notorious for going from one hair color to another just because I am in the mood. Given the abuse my hair goes through, and the extreme scrutiny anyone who dares do my hair is under, it is no small task to find a salon or stylist that meets my high demands and expectations. Fortunately, I met the hairstylist of my dreams in the lovely Angela Le.
The first time I went to Angela was November 08, when I wanted to get rid of my platinum blond hair before my birthday. I have to admit, that was the most amazing hair color transformation I have ever encountered. She darkened my roots while making everything an overall dirty blond, light brown combo with highlights and lowlights, and a metallic finish. Anyone who has ever been platinum blond knows how incredibly difficult it is to find a stylist who can pull it off that well without any strange colors showing up. I was absolutely blown away, and couldn't have possibly been happier to have such a gorgeous new hair style right before my birthday.
Last month I once again returned to Angela Le for yet another drastic change in hair color. This time I desired deep, dark hair, and once again she delivered. I went in early for a color consultation, and because I was so eager to have my hair done she managed to fit me in that day. We flipped through some magazines, found what I wanted, then away we went! I came out looking like a completely different person with the most amazing espresso brown hair with the perfect bangs. It was exactly what I wanted, but even better than I could have possibly imagined.
Angela Le is my hair goddess for all of the amazing transformations she has pulled off on my hair. Plus, she gives the greatest massages when she washes your hair that make you want to knock out in the hair! Throw in the great ambiance and decor of Salon Sessions, and you have a match made in hair heaven.
I was a buzz my own head kind of but then I wanted put a little my effort into my appearanc. I moved to Pasadena and googled "hair salon" and Salon Session just jump off the page for me. I made an appointment with Angela Le, who couldn't nicer and she was even able to style my curly hair. I've been a repeat customer ever since.
Just overall great.
I came in for a hair cut with Angela Le. She was great! I was really pleased with my haircut. She has a great bubbly personality and very easy to work with. Im very excited to come back to get my hair colored. The prices is very reasonable. So if you are looking for a new sassy look, I'd recommend coming in to ask for Angela Le. She is very easy to work with.
I have to say that my haircut rocks!!! All thanks to Brenton. Everyone at the salon were really helpful and friendly. Brenton is truly a top notch stylist who works with you. I really love my haircut and it's better than what I expected. Thank you so much Brenton and everyone at Sessions for making my experience enjoyable! I can't wait to show off my new 'do!
another awesome concoction from AZELLE. she gave me a whole new look that i get complimented all the time with. I wouldn't have the guts to try this new look on me on my own. But she's got the EYE that leads to perfection. I've recommended people to her that have never been disappointed. I've sent my mom and aunt who can be so hard to please and they've given her a perfect 10. if your debating on a new look..DON'T just go see AZELLE and I guarantee you you'll be glad u did!!!!!

Not to totally change my original review, because the haircuts are still great, but I have to say that I was a little turned off when I went in last time and my stylist said I could get a discount for putting a review on yelp. I told her I already had.
I'm not a fan of that kind of campaigning. It's lame, and made me not want to go back. So I didn't.

My Lady asked me to write a review on this place. She saw this place through Yelp and decided to check it out. She's been to a lot of Korean Hair Salons and they all end up "F'ing" up her hair. You would think that Korean hair stylists would know Korean women's hair, but that's truly not the case. So, she decided to make an appointment to see Brenton Lee since he's been reviewed a lot with positive comments. She saw Brenton last Friday and when she got there, she was in the cafe waiting and Brenton told her that he would be with her in 5 minutes and he did come back within 5 minutes. He is very personable and communicated very well with her. She had coloring and a haircut. She was very impressed and pleased that he was there the whole time working on her hair. Other Salons, you have the assistants doing their hair and the hair stylist would only cut the hair. Although he is a young stylist, he knew exactly what was wrong with her hair and new why her hair was damaged, etc. He is very meticulous and doesn't take any shortcuts. He even gave her free conditioner. I can vouge for that because she had her appointment at 12pm and she got out of there at 4pm! After he was done with her hair, she really loved it. It was exactly how she wanted it and when I saw her that evening, I was even impressed.
For my little experience that I had with the salon, I wanted to surprise my Lady and I called in when she was having her hair done and told the receptionist that I'm going to pay for it. She said no problem and called me later closer to when they were finished and she took care of it over the phone. The receptionist told my Lady that it was already paid for and handed her the receipt. According to the Fiance, the prices were reasonable and definitely worth having Brenton work on her from soup to nuts!
A good friend of mine recommended that I go to Salon Sessions to fix a bad hair cut. My hair is ethnic, fine, and extremely curly, most people have no clue how to cut or even style it. I went to the Salon Sessions not knowing if anyone could fix my hair, and Brenton fixed what I thought could not be fixed. The whole staff made a bad hair experience into a fantastic hair experience.

Upon entering the salon I knew it was gonna be good. The place is hip but not overly shi-shi, located in Old Pasadena (*sidenote* everybody there is attractive). Because of the vivacity of the neighborhood I expected the clientele to be solely younguns, but they really cover it all. All ages come out looking hot. That's because all the stylists that work here are jacks of their trade. Come on, Tyra gives them love...you know they got soul.
Enter Angela Le, a wonderful stylist at Salon Sessions. I met her through friends as my hair got longer. After telling her my Un-Fantastic Sam's story, she tended to my hair like a wounded horse with a bad $15 haircut.
She pre-shampooed and conditioned me first, following up with an unbelievably relaxing scalp massage. When we got back to her station, she talked me through the haircut, listening for any feedback so that she could get it right. No doubt, she's detail-oriented and her skilled-yet-careful hands show it with each cut. When she finished up, I felt great and looked even better ;)

I found Senaida about 4 years ago back when she was working at another salon and I gladly followed her to Salon Sessions. She is a wonderfully talented aesthetician and probably one of the sweetest individuals I have ever met. She is great at what she does - even the horribly painful extractions part of a facial were made easier because of her calming voice.
The Salon is amazing. Very edgy in design but with classic materials (check out the mirrors!). Great architectural and interior details make this place a great spot.
I have since moved to New York City (earlier this year) and I miss Senaida and all her awesomeness. I wish I had my Senaida here in NYC. Life and my eye brows would be so much happier.
Liz is our stylist. She is great. I always walk out of the salon felling like a million bucks. Not only is she a great stylist, she's a great person: friendly, professional and genuine.
The salon itself is well designed, clean and very well lit. Everyone is friendly and professional.
ANGELA LE = AWESOME!
I've been going to Angela for about 1.5 yrs. trust me, i would not be saying this if it wasn't true. I'm originally from the bay area and my friend would be my hair stylist because i just don't trust anyone with my hair!! i finally found 2 hair stylists in SD when I moved down for school so it helped me w/having to go home every couple months. i say 2 because i would go to one to cut my hair and another to get the color done. when i decided to move to LA i thought i would have to make the commute back and forth to SD. Luckily, i found out my friend Angela Le lived in LA too and it saved me the trip back and forth to SD. i'm so lucky to know someone that can do BOTH cut AND color!!!
i tend to get bored easily of my hair and i like to change it every few months. even though i'm a picky person, i'm pretty easy going on my hair because i like to change up my hair. AGAIN, ANGELA LE is awesome for this. she keeps up with new techniques and styles and always recommends specific colors and cuts for me. PLUS, she gives FAB head massages!!
i always get compliments on my hair at work [even when i don't have time to go in and my roots are showing] bc Angela does these infused highlights that lets me keep them in a bit longer. my co-workers finally decided to go in bc they loved my hair and after hearing all of their horror hair color/cut stories, they wanted to check out my stylist. with no surprise, they all came back telling me how much they love Angela too! She always makes sure she tells you what she decides to do or what she thinks looks best on you.
Salon Sessions has a nice vibe, parking has never been a problem. just make sure you have quarters for the meters, or you can always go in and ask for change for some bills. All of the staff has been friendly and they always make sure you are satisfied!
This review is for Senaida Vargus. Senaida is magical. I mean it. I go here to get my eyebrows trimmed. They are WILD. In the summer they get blond and I am a brunette. Don't ask. Pretty now, lifeguardish yes.
The thing is about her is her nature. She makes this experience like a dream. Getting plucked isnt great, but she is a sa!!ge. First, the music, the herbals, the room, the temperature, but its HER. She is a sage. Period. She is the gentlest, nicest person. I totally look forward to my ten minutes of heaven. Thanks SEN!!

Made an appointment for my bf. I sat there and watched the haircut and all the other customers' haircuts. Haircuts were average. The spotlights above your seat make your hair looks a lot better than it actually is.
Location's great. Awesome customer service, very friendly staffs.
Karla. Is. Amazing!
I came to Karla with the worst haircut that I've had in my life (it had gone from my mid back to sitting at my ears); I left the salon feeling confident and looking great to boot. She has been treating my hair with the TLC it needs and deserves for the past 8 months. My hair has gone to an ear length bob to past my shoulders and it couldn't be healthier.
As a black woman, it is very trying to find a hair stylist that:
1. Knows what she is doing when it comes to hair relaxers
2. Actually cares about her clients
3. Wants to give the most possible love to my hair
Karla does all three and more; so happy I found her and you can trust that i won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
Angela L is awesome! She is great with color and cuts. Her carefulness and precision are excellent. It's easy to tell her what you want and when in doubt about making decisions myself, I always trust her suggestions and judgment.
I have known Angela for a few years now and would definitely recommend her to someone looking for a fresh and trendy look.
I first came to this salon shortly after it opened, following my hair stylist out to her new location. It's a longer drive for me and the rates are a bit higher, but Ruth's skills are truly worth it. She has been my stylist for almost five years and I can't imagine ever going elsewhere. Over the past year I have pretty much given her free reign with my cut and color. The results are always great and generate a lot of compliments.
The stylishness of the salon is just icing on the cake.
I've gone to sooo many stylists in the greater Pasadena area looking for one who can really work with my hair. I've got wavy thick hair that I choose to wear short. Most stylists have a field day and cut and cut and cut some more. Liz is different because she really listened to me before putting scissors to hair. My mother, who's my toughest critic, loves my hair. Liz will also change it up so it isn't just the same old thing every time. She takes her time and does it right. Ain't cheap but since I am a wash and wear kind of gal I need a great haircut. My hair even maintains shape as it's growing out and that's a first.

I had my hair cut and colored with Angela and she did a really nice job. I asked her to make my color warmer with subtle highlights and she did a good job. The cut has also grown out well. i plan to return to Angela for future cuts and color.
Lucky lucky me, Angela Le of Session is my sister. Being her older sister, I was doubtful when she said she wanted to do hair for a living. But boy am I glad she did it anyways. I am honestly impressed by her talent. And I am very grateful she comes back every few months to give the family a "salon" day. I always get compliments after she visits.
My hair has been through the hands of many a stylists, from the $50 hair cut to the $200 dollar ones. I was never able to find a stylist who was consistant. It would start good then when I became a regular, it seemed the stylist knew they had me then started to slack off. So every one and a half years, I would have to go look for another stylist.
My sister has been doing my hair for the past 2-3 yrs now and I am glad to say she is just getting better and better. And here is why I really recommend her...she has always been into hair and makeup even as a child. It's her passion. So if you want a young passionate hairdresser, give her a call. I am sure you will be very happy with your cut or color.
I can't wait for her to do the hair and makeup for my upcoming wedding.
I had an awesome experience at Salon Sessions. Right when going in I was treated with wonderful customer service. Brenton Lee was my hair stylist and made me feel comfortable and did a great job and felt good walking out with my new hair style. He is someone that I can say if you don't know what to do with your hair leave it in he's hands and he'll have you leaving out there looking good. He's very professional and takes care of his customer's. He also does his best to make everything perfect from your roots to your ends, I love it.
A great salon located on the back streets of Old Town Pasadena. Vanessa has kicked ass with the color of both me and my sister's hair for the past couple of years.
Oh, and if you go on Thursdays they have photo shoots.
wow! it's the best place ever to get your hair done! I was getting my engagement photos done and wanted to get my hair perfect! (What girl wouldn't?) A couple of my friends went and their hair came out beautifully. So I decided to shell out the cash and make an appointment. I made an appointment with Azelle.
I haven't had my hair styled for a couple of years, so it was just long and straight. I was a bit nervous as the appt was the day b4 my photo session. What if it didn't come out right? what if I hated it? what can I do then? but then here comes Azelle and her wonderful scissors!=)
The salon itself is a trendy place. Beyonce on the big plasma as I'm getting my hair washed, rinsed, and massaged! yummy. My stylist was really good about asking questions, telling me exactly what she was doing and also getting my opinions on the style and adjusting accordingly. =) after all that, my hair was amazing and the photographer the next day was mentioning how good my hair was coming out in the shots and asking where I got my hair done! Yeah! all a success!
I highly recommend this place. The staff here is friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. You'll get great results!
