I would love to give this Salon 5 stars, I liked my haircut so much, but I would be wrong if I ignored the lack of bells and whistles that I like if I'm paying $40-50 for a cut.

I was in desparate need of a haircut just out of the Metro in AM, so I called Salon Roi just to see if they happened to have any availability at 5PM on a Friday.  Since I was literally right outside, they were extremely friendly and said to just come right up.  I was handed over to Blanca who greeted me as soon as I reached the receptionist, and took me back to her chair.

I get a simple cut, 2 on the sides, faded up, real short on the top, messy/spiked in the front, yet somehow, the last 3 places I tried in DC/Bethesda (just moved here in April), were extremely sub-par considering the $$.  As such, I was hesitant to drop another 50 bucks only to wish I had just gone to SuperCuts, but I figured let's give it a shot.  Blanca definitely made me glad I came in.  She was extremely friendly, has worked there for years (I won't say how many), and gave me the best cut I've had in a long time.

The only reason I can't give this place 5 stars is the ambiance wasn't top notch, and I've been to salons/high-end barbers in the past where you are offered beer/wine, a hot towel and facial massage.  That will always be my 5-star experience, but this is probably the best standalone cut I've had.

    Highly recommended for men's cuts!

It's been two years since I went to Salon Roi for a Spa Week "massage." I'm embarrassed that I've done nothing until now to expose the disgusting behavior of their employee Nick.

Not only was he sniffling and sick with a running nose, but he was EXTREMELY inappropriate during the massage. I had read one review prior to my appointment by a woman that he had been inappropriate with her, but thought she was exaggerating or new to massages and just uncomfortable with them in general. She was completely right.

I assume he's been fired by now, but I have to post something about this creep.

The customer service is amazing. But the prices, aren't worth it. I paid $40 for an eyebrow arch and simple manicure. It was not all that. I'm from Chicago and I've had way better for less than $25. I'm finding somewhere else. It's really not worth it.

I see these guys are offering a Groupon deal again.  BEWARE!

They look for any reason not to honor the groupon.  I had a difficult time because I scheduled for one afternoon, then called the same morning to cancel and move the appointment as I had food poisoning.  The woman was rude and told me I was cancelling too late, and they could not honor the Groupon.

NOTE: I've received several belligerent emails from someone who clearly is the owner or is somehow affiliated with the owner.  This person, though hateful and incapable of conveying a coherent thought, did have one valid point to consider:  groupon cannot guarantee rebooking when cancellations are made within 24 hours of service.  Even so, this does not excuse the extremely abrasive person who answered the phone.  You may also want to note there is another review from someone else with a less than stellar groupon-related experience.

$90 gets you a; brow wax that has poorly shaped trim with brows that have a funny point/Spock look to it (and I had to pluck when I got home b/c she missed several shorter ones), a pedicure that is totally sloppy and all over my skin & a manicure that is peeling off 24 hours later (it was totally peeled off by day 2!).  NOT even remotely worth the $90 I paid - go somewhere else (btw - seriously, a pedi @ Saks Fifth Ave Spa costs $38, here is $40 - come on!).

Also, I second another reviewers statement that Tabitha needs to take over.....my chair for brow wax had tape on it to hold a torn pc of leather together :(. Ick!

I had purchased their Groupon deal with great intentions to get either a mani/pedi or a facial, but everytime I called they said they couldn't give me an appointment and I'd have to leave my number for them to give me a call when an opening came up. Well, the Groupon expired and I'm out my $25. Not breaking the bank, but seriously...what terrible customer service! They were SO incredibly rude on the phone.

    Salon Roi = bad business.

First with the positive - I had an express facial with Odeta, who was lovely and knowledgeable.   Highly recommend her.  The receptionist was friendly and offered me a glass of water.

However, the mani-pedi with Beatrice was awful.  She's also lovely, but just being honest here -- 4 nails chipped the following day and I actually PEELED the rest off of all ten nails, it was so thick and soft.  I didn't even need polish remover!   There was almost no massage, and my nails look no better than before.  The whole thing was a big waste of time.

The salon has a kind of faded glory look to it, but the facial room was about 4 flights of stairs up (fine for me, but not handicapped accessible!) For the mani-pedi,  I sat in a regular chair (like a desk chair, not the usual big salon chair) and my feet were in a drug store footbath.

DISCLAIMER: No, my comments are not carping. These are condign criticisms.

Has anyone ever watched "Tabatha's Salon Takeover" on Bravo Network??? Well, THIS salon needs to be taken over. Tabatha needs to bust through that salon and whip the staff into some serious shape!

So, I came here because of a mani/pedi groupon that my bf gifted me. Granted, I showed up earlier than my scheduled appoiment time... but from what I noticed, everyone in this salon moves VERY SLOW. As an NYC metro girl at heart, the one thing that really bothers me is inefficiency. Don't get me wrong - everyone at the salon is nice and cordial, but I definitely wouldn't go back.

In addition, the salon is not comely at all. In fact, it's very quirky as are its employees. None of the staff seemed like actual stylists or aestheticians, save for the asian male salonist. I mean, come on, if that's your job, shouldn't you at least LOOK the part (as in, take care of your own appearance to set precedence)?

So returning to the topic of slowness: I literally fell asleep while the lady was doing my manicure and pedicure... and let's just say that if I was in a hurry that day, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'd have been fuming from the lack of alacrity.

Overall, the manicure and pedicure turned out OK. Luckily, I found an awesome nail polish color which salvaged the whole experience.

I found out about Salon Roi from Spa Week. The salon is convinenetly located right next to the Woodley Park metro and has minimal signage, but not hard to find. It's in an older, 4-story building, and feels very european with a hint of animal print and a lot of pink.

First, I got my eyebrows done by Daiva. Like the previous reviewer said, she's fabulous. I'm already planning on going back to get a facial from her. They use all-natural products with minimal scents (The Body Shop, Phyto, Biomedics).

Both my friend and I got 60-minute Swedish Massages (spa week specials) from Daiva and Annette, respectively. Both were great. Again, minimal products, totally all-natural.

I also met Mimi and saw some other stylists. Everyone seemed very happy with their services.

What a gem of a salon with wonderful staff!

I used a SpaFinder gift certificate here for a 60 minute Swedish massage a few months ago. The small massage rooms are on the top floor above the hairstylists so even with the door shut and soothing music playing, you can still here all the chatter and laughter going on downstairs. Despite this distraction I still had a wonderful massage which left me feeling soooo relaxed.

There aren't a lot of frills here but for a good, reasonably priced massage, I would come again.

I went with a groupon that my husband bought for me for a mani-pedi.
It was difficult to find a time because apparently the salon is having more groupon requests than they can handle, and the receptionist seemed quite impatient. When I finally found a time, and went there, I was refused service because I was late for my appointment. (I had to look pretty hard for parking in the area.) There was almost nobody at the salon when I was there (1pm on a weekday), and I don't know if they were really short of people, or they just didn't want to honor the groupon. Anyway, I left without arguing with them, as the experience was horrible enough. There're lots of nail salons in the area that will be more than happy to have walk-ins, and do a great job. So I definitely won't be going back to Salon Roi.

Salon Roi is a little gem, perfect spot for grabbing a manicure and pedicure with a girlfriend. The salon is quite large with two floors (hair downstairs, spa services upstairs). The spa area is straight out of a dollhouse - zebra striped carpet with pink walls and decor. Chairs were very comfy, and just a cozy atmosphere in general. Marita did my nails. She was very sweet and my hands and feet look great.

I'm typically an in-and-out 45 minute mani/pedi kind of gal (Nails 2000 in Arlington is my normal spot), so I don't know that I'd spend $58 to go here again, but if you're getting your nails done for a special occasion or looking more for of a spa type atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend Salon Roi.

I can only comment on the eyebrow related services - and they are first rate.  Daiva works wonders.  I am fairly picky, and have not been very satisfied with the outcome at many other DC salons.  Perhaps my brows are more challenging than other people's?  In any event, I highly recommend Daiva at Salon Roi.

I got a "facial" for $50 with a coupon they sent me via email. You must have the print out with you in order to redeem it and they are serious. I had to run around looking for a printer...such a pain. Anyway, I thought Linda was very nice and the facial was relaxing, but I thought there would be more extraction. That was the main purpose of the facial for me. I went home and had to extract everything myself. Unfortunately, I don't have the right tools so it takes a lot longer and is much more difficult. I will never find anyone quite like my person back home.

Horrible. The guy did not listen to what I want and gave me something else. I even gave him a picture of me with the haircut I used to have. Unfortunately, it can't be fixed and has to grow out.

I would really like to rate Salon Roi highly because all of the people there are extremely extremely nice, it is affordable ($35 for haircut!  120 for cut plus highlights), and I would like to support them. I've had my haircut there twice, by two different women, both of whom I liked a great deal and had been working there a long time.  Both haircuts were okay, but I felt I had to walk them through every snip and couldn't trust them to give me a fashion forward look without a lot of coaching.  I would go here for a pleasant and affordable trim, but if you are looking for high fashion styling or a new look, make sure you know EXACTLY what you want.

I went to Salon Roi for a massage during SpaWeek. It was the end of the workday, and I had been looking forward to this since pushing my unfit winter body through the Cherry Blossom race a few weeks ago. Nick was my masseuse, young and fairly new on the job and out of school. The massage wasn't awful (and definitely no kind of "sexual harassment" or anything that could have been misconstrued, as another yelper posted), but he seemed to have very little interest in being there. Granted, he had probably been doing massages all day... but that's the job he signed up for and he needs to treat each guest as though it's a fresh start to his day and he's happy to see them. Also, the massage lasted 40 minutes (not 50), concentrated on only one part of the body, and I felt rushed out of there after wards (not the spa experience I had been looking forward to for weeks). If Nick could find greater enthusiasm for his job and pick up some better customer service skills, I think he would do well. As it stands, I wouldn't return for another massage, SpaWeek deal or not.

I went to Salon Roi during spa week for a 50 minute deep tissue massage.  Despite constant directions, the masseuse was unable to give a decent massage.  Even worse, the massage lasted under 40 minutes (over ten minutes shorter than advertised).  I will definitely not be returning to Salon Roi.

I bought a groupon to use for a mani/pedi. Wasn't too difficult to make an appt (was surprised based on other groupon experiences). The decor is quite....interesting. The waiting area is basically a love seat sitting among salon chairs and there was a serious lack of interesting reading material. I would agree w Diana K that the mani/pedi was not a quick process, but I preferred that she took the time to massage my legs and feet. Was super pleased with mani/pedi until two days later when basically all the paint chipped off 4 of my finger nails. Not sure if it was the nail polish I picked out, but don't think I would pay the full price again to find out.

Completely agree with Caroline.  The mani pedi was crap, I had polish all over my hands, she didn't even rub the lotion in much less actually give a massage. The nail tech's name was Marita.  She was nice, but that's about the only nice thing I can say.

I came here for spa week last year and had a massage and oxygen facial.  Both services were excellent!  We were really late because of a huge accident but they were very accommodating.  I'd have to say their oxygen facial is the best facial I've ever had.  I left the spa completely glowing!
