5 reviews for Salon Me
So I just moved to Atlanta and getting a haircut was one of my top priorities.
After reading some reviews on yelp, I decided to check out Salon Me because I just got the feeling they knew how to cut Asian hair. Why is cutting Asian hair such a big deal?! Well, based on my experience, some people just don't get it! I came out from my haircut looking like Pokemon once and that's not a good thing! So I always make sure first that the stylists/barbers have had experience cutting Asian hair.
Anyway, when I got to Salon Me, I was greeted by the receptionist and waited in their lounge area. Terry then called me for my haircut.
Overall, my haircut was quick and good. I felt that Terry understood what I wanted and knew how to manage my Asian hair.
Once upon a time, I got bored of my stick-straight Asian hair and decided to get a "body wave". Instead of going to my "regular" salon (see my review at http://www.yelp.com/bi...), I thought I'd be safer going to an Asian salon where I assumed they would be more familiar with how my hair reacts to chemicals...well, i ended up with way-too-curly-to-be-called-a-wave curls which all curled in the same direction (try and picture hair that looked like a package of ramen noodles)!! As you'd guess, I had lots of ponytail days after that.
As soon as a few months had passed and my hair could stand another chemical process, I looked for a new salon. Reading the reviews from CitySearch (back before I knew about Yelp, sorry!) convinced me to try Salon Me and I haven't looked back since.
I've been going to Becca Jones at Salon Me for about 2 years now. Not only has she successfully undid my ramen 'do and re-permed my hair in a way that looks natural (which I thought was impossible), her highlighting and haircutting skills are also unmatched anywhere else...and I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who's had at least 15 different stylists in my lifetime, mostly from hair shows that I did throughout college.
Most recently, I requested some pink streaks (Jerome Russell Punky Colour in 'Flamingo Pink') and she gladly gave me some! Trust me, not all stylists are this open to changing up your 'do; I've had to almost get into arguments before with a previous stylist who was convinced that what I wanted would look terrible...plus, I was amazed that my hair didn't fall out after all the perming, highlighting, perming again, bleaching, and dying.
It's been 4.5 weeks now and the color is still going strong (see picture). I get compliments on my hair at least twice a week and will never go anywhere else as long as I live in Atlanta. I love you Becca!
I read Amaryllia's review, and like her, when I move to a new place I immediately gravitate towards asian salons, assuming they know my hair better. Anyhoo, after reading the review, I promptly called for an appt. The guy who answered the phone immediately asked what type of hair I had in order to match me with the right stylist. Becca was fabulous. I was very open to something a little different than my usual, and she did a fabulous job on both the cut and color, just in time for my new job. Thanks Becca!! My roommate is now on his way to see her... let's see the magic she does on his head of hair!
The staff here is very nice, sure, and the location is convenient. But its sometimes difficult to get an appointment without at least a couple of days in advance. Both ladies who wax are great and super sweet, good conversation. But, to be honest, I think the waxes are way too speedy and not thorough enough. If I'm going to pay $60 and go through the pain, then I shouldn't have to go home and find missed hairs all over the place. At times it felt like they just wanted to get me in and out.
Oh Sejal. How do I love thee, let me count the ways.
(1) I needed last minute grooming help, and came across this spa on the Internets. Called same-day, and asked you to see me for a Brazilian wax on a Friday evening, even though I don't leave the office until 7pm, and couldn't get to the salon till 7:30. And you said sure!!
(2) You were sweet, greeted me when I arrived and didn't keep me waiting.
(3) You were so easy to talk to, and kept my mind occupied while we chatted...
(4) ...as you proceeded to give me probably the most efficient, but nevertheless speediest, Brazilian bikini wax I have EVER had. And while there will probably never be a zero-pain quotient for waxing of the hoo-haw region, it was the first time that I didn't have a mid-waxing pain-induced panic attack where I just wanted to run, run away before the ordeal was even over. (Think Steve Carell in 40-Yr-Old Virgin)
(5) And the cost of the wax was $65, a very reasonable rate when comparable establishments in Midtown/VaHi Atlanta charge me upwards of $75, whose aestheticians operate without a fraction of the excellence with which you hone your craft.
Like those schmucks say on eHarmony advertisements, I just never knew it* could be like this, Sejal. It took a long time for me to find you , but now that I have, I don't know how I was able to exist this long without you in my life. I'm so lucky.
(*Usually in those aforementioned ads, I think they are referring to something called love. Here, I mean the forceful, almost violent, removal of hair from one's nether regions with the use of hot wax. Similar things, these two, but not the same.)
