I have been going to my hair stylist back in Rochester, NY since i moved to Boston a year ago.  When I find someone who does it right, I am too scared to try something new.  I love my hair, and I will pay anything to have it done well.  That being said, Rogue - you have won me over.  Rogue alone gets five stars.  Even the guy at the desk (Jake I think?) gets five stars.  When I called I explained that I was new and what I wanted, that I had read great things about Rogue, liked her information on their website etc.  This was all relayed to her. He also asked me on my way out how to say my name correctly so he could put a note in the computer.  I fell in love, everyone gets my name wrong.  Marry me gay receptionist?

Rogue asked me exactly what I wanted every step of the way - we talked about products I use, since I came from a Bumble and Bumble salon.  She pushed nothing on me that day, but said when I used them up we should try some other options that may work better.  I felt so comfortable - I have had so many compliments on my hair.  She used great technique.  Worth every penny.

The neg: I have been to many an upscale salon.  This place could look a little fancier. I know for a fact there are places on the same price scale In Boston that offer you wine not just water and coffee. I am not mad about the wine though, more the ambience, it is a small place but do something to make it nicer.  Also my best friend went there a couple months before I did, granted she chose one of the newer stylists I believe since her haircut cost less, but they cut was not that impressive.

Summary: Go to Salon Marc Harris, ask for Rogue.  She is worth it, don't let the rest bring you down.

Janet saved my hair!  Literally. I came in for a cut and color while working at a highly stressful job.  It was my first styling since I moved back to Boston from Philly where I had a phenomenal stylist.

Long story short, when she began to brush out my hair after coloring it, it showed it weakness and broke everywhere.   It was a disaster.   Over the last 18 months, I've been in hair rehab.  She recommended products that helped rebuild its strength while also reducing the use of harsh chemicals to lift the color in my hair.

She gives a great cut, listens to her client, pays attention to their needs and can bring hair back to life.  My hair has grown at least two inches since the first time I saw her and it has its elasticity and sheen back as well.

Without a doubt, if you are willing to pay for it- go see Janet.  I relocated to Portsmouth recently and still make the drive to see her because I don't think anyone else can do what she does.  If I ever get hitched, she'll be one of my first phone calls.

I decided to try a new salon, and Salon Marc Harris was recommended to me by a friend.  Since I was only doing a simple cut, I decided to see one of their junior stylists since their prices are much lower.  I saw Christopher and was very happy with the results. He was very nice, understood exactly what I was going for and gave me a great cut.

Genevieve has given me the best cut and color I've ever had.  The cut is so good, I can wake up in the morning and the hair just seems to fall into place without having to work with it too much.  The cut is stylish and the color is fabulous.  She cares about her clients and takes her time.  Make an appointment with Genevieve.  It's worth it!

I love this place.  Rogue is my stylist, and I picked her personally after moving to Boston and doing a ton of research to find a first stylist.  I have curly hair, and a majority of stylists for some reason don't have a clue how to cut curly hair.  She gave me the best hair cut I have ever had, and totally gave me a completely new look, which everyone loves.  It was like a hair revolution.  Not to mention, her personality can't be beat--she's the type of girl that stands out in a crowd, like Cyndi Lauper with scissors.  So, the conversation is never dull.  Love her.

And frankly, the prices are pretty mainstream for Boston.  I generally pay around $200 for cut, color, and style--in a city where hair care is ridiculously overpriced, that's not bad.

This place is so overrated.

Not a very fascinating story to tell here.  I got my hair cut by some guy whose name I forget (but he had blond hair, blond facial hair, and had an air of muted flamboyance), and he cut it VERY unevenly, so that it grew VERY unevenly, even after I had specifically requested that he cut it so it would grow evenly all around.

So I paid Newbury Street prices for a haircut I could have received from an average $16-25 Beacon Hill barber.

At least they let me use their bathroom.

I have been here several times and I don't think I am going to go to any other salon. I have had Claudia and Rogue. While Rogue is great and had a  great personality, I prefer Claudia. They are both amazing and you will not go wrong with who ever you chose. Claudia is my favorite though.

I used to be a loyal customer of this salon. Then last year, a day before I was supposed to leave for my honeymoon they completey screwed me over.

It was a Monday so my regular stylist wan't working. I had called her a number of times before my appointment to see if she should talk to the stylist I was going to see to tell her what I like, but she never called me back. I had been going to this stylist for over 3 years, gave her professional advice, and sent her probably 5 new clients! And she couldn't even return a phone call!

I arrived at 9 AM for my hair cut with a stylist I had never met. I was sitting waiting and waiting. Finally the receptionist called the stylist, and she was on VACATION! The receptionist turned to me and sad sorry and that they would give me a discount the next time I came in!

Needless to say, I've never been back! It was a nightmare. I went downstairs to James Joseph salon in tears and they were kind enough to fit me in later that day.

Wow. Not what I expected from the plethora of 5 star reviews by Boston Yelpers. Salon Marc Harris, for me, was a total nightmare.

It start with my arriving 8 minutes late for my appointment, which, I admit is terrible of me and I was more than ashamed. My cabbie took me an "alternate" route so he could jack up the price by $4 extra dollars, with which, I'm sure, he was buying himself that extra 40 after work.

I walked in (in ridiculously cute short, baby pink/green seersucker shorts, a white polo sweater, Burberry espadrilles and the Kate Moss Burberry sunglasses: pure divinity) and was apologetic as all hell. First off, I was muy disappointo over the decor: mediocre as all hell. The dumpy receptionist (with bad hair, might I add) basically told me to just get lost, but not without paying the cancellation fee.

Being as I was only 8 minutes late and I had a conditioning treatment and blowdry appointment, which was supposed to be a half an hour, I tried to reason with her and ask if I could just get the conditioning treatment and skip the blowdry, just so I didn't have to pay the fee and waste my time. She kept saying no and didn't seem to comprehend, whatsoever, that I would forfeit the blowdry. Just as I was about to blow my top, it finally sunk in and she said that would be okay.

The conditioning treatment was NOT what I expected. Usually I get a clear gloss, and sit underneath the machine for a while. At Marc Harris, they just spray some random sheez in your hair that really could be anything and then just rinse it out.

Post "treatment," I was (mortifyingly enough) forced to blowdry my own hair in a chair in the middle of the "studio" while other employees made comments as to what I was doing. Finally, we turned it into a joke and my S.O started blowdrying it for me, but it was still awkward as hell.

We were so disappointed by the Sears-looking employees, tubby clientele, customer service, decor, setup, services, that my S.O cancelled his later appointment in favor of going to a better salon. The place was a madhouse and put on this grand facade of being something much better than it is, which is an average salon glorified by its location on Newbury Street.

Never again will I do something so blasphemous as test out a different salon than Shag, where I have been exceptionally well taken care of and satisfied unless it's Mario Russo in Louis Boston, which looks equally, if not more, divine. Marc Harris can kiss my seersuckered ass.

How I managed to find myself in Sal-on Marc Harris I do not know, but my S.O. was in need of a conditioning treatment and I thought my own mop would profit a shearing so she made us two appointments in lieu of the good publicity other yelpers have given it. Arriving eight minutes late is really not a good idea because the receptionist will act as though she does not understand you when you wish to waive part of your service in order not to forfeit the whole appointment. The following is not an exact transcript, however I consider it a decently accurate rendition of their dialogue:

Receptionist: Well, since you're eight minutes late, Paula isn't going to have time to condition your hair and blow dry it.

My S.O.: I understand, but instead of losing the entire thirty minutes, would it be alright if I just dried my own hair?

Receptionist: It's a conditioning AND a blow dry.

My S.O.: I realize that, but there are still twenty minutes left and that is enough time for the conditioner, may I just receive the conditioning?

Receptionist: It's a whole conditioning package...you get the conditioning and the blow drying...

My S.O.: Okay, I get that, but what I am trying to TELL you is that I do not wish to forgo my entire appointment. Therefore, I want to have my gloss and dry my OWN hair.

[Extremely awkward glances are exchanged, moment of silence follows]

***just a footnote, that was only executive summary. I am not exaggerating to say that this went on much longer***

Receptionist: [cheerfully] Alright, Basel will see you now!

So then a "lavender gentleman" wearing what looked like a paint smattered Guns n' Roses shirt took her into the firing line (called so because the mirrors make the place look like an industrial bowling alley, not a hip salon.) Longwinded story short, I got tired of waiting with the rest of the fat clientele in the front and decided I would join my S.O. who had just been conditioned. To expedite this incongruous process I took up a hairdryer myself and started brushing her in some deliberately affected she-she way so as to impersonate the Ecstasy-addict looking staff who made unintelligible jeers at me all the while. Basically, I decided I didn't want Bruno from Funkyzeit cutting my own hair and I was never so happy to buy my way out of something in my whole life. This place seems extraordinarily hyped and I fail to see what the big deal about it is.

I just moved to Boston from Chicago and wanted to get my hair done for my anniversary with my boyfriend.  I was excited to try out Marc Harris.  I called a week in advance and made an appointment for highlights and a cut with Robert.  I got there and was told they had overbooked...  NO EXPLANATION.  They tried to schedule me with Rogue but she was only able to MAYbe fit in a cut... through no fault of her own, she didn't seem to know what the deal was either.

Of course, she then proceeded to tack on other processes I'd need to "correct" my previous color.  First off, my stylist in Chicago was great and if I could fly back there to get my hair done (Mario Triccoci Salon with Jenny in Old Orchard), I would!!!  With their prices, I could probably book TWO roundtrip tickets!!!

Honestly, they were like, "Uh, sorry, but it's not like you can go anywhere else on a Saturday".  Thanks, I felt like crap leaving that place.  They just don't care despite the fact it was their fault.  You'd think they'd want to maintain a positive reputation.  At the rate their going, the customer isn't coming out on top.

Dellaria in Kenmore = unpretentious, reasonably priced, and Albert knows how highlight dark hair to a pretty blonde, no "corrective processes" required!!!

I hate this salon.

I know so many think this salon rocks but I have to disagree.  I've been here many times.  I went a couple of times to stylist X and he wasn't impressive, he also asked me if you could drive to Puerto Rico...I then saw Rogue regularly for about two years and every time was like the first time.  She never had any memory of cutting my hair before and would confuse me with other clients, but she is great at what she does and if you notice most of the reviews on here are about her not the salon itself.  I couldn't see Rogue so I saw another stylist, 1st mistake.  I just needed my ends trimmed and I wanted bangs.  She cut my hair and at first when I was sitting in the chair it seemed fine and they stylist didn't ask me if I liked and didn't do that whole thing where they give you a mirror and swirl you around in the chair to see if YOU like it.  She just told me that it looked good.  It was the end of the day, I'm sure she just wanted to go home.  I left the salon and then saw the damage...I now have half of my head dedicated to bangs and they are crooked, I have pieces of my hair that are an inch long.  I asked a random woman in a store I was in if she thought my bangs looked crooked, she hesitated then answered yes and also she thought they looked as if they were cut in an M-shape.  I went back to the salon, the assistant manager quickly informed me that they were closed.  I explained that I had been in earlier and my hair was uneven, he then told me they were closed again and that they do offer "complimentary bang trims".  I thought he didn't understand that I'd been there earlier.  I told him I understood that but can we make arrangements to fix my hair because I was in earlier that day...he says Lauren will be back Friday she can fix it then.  He did understand he just didn't give a shit and just wanted to go home.  It was Tuesday, I became appalled.  I asked him how is it acceptable that I have to wait 3 days to have my hair fixed when they were responsible for butchering it?  He tells me to not be upset. He refused to give me an answere when I asked if he thought that my hair was crooked, he finally said that he didn't think there was anything wrong with it.  Even if that were so (which uneven doesn't even begin to describe the damage) the point is that it's my hair and I think there is something wrong with it. After going back and forth, he begrudgingly said that I could come in at 12:15 the next day, but he would have to confirm with me in the morning if that was a possibility.  WTF is wrong with this?  It was simple, I hated the cut overall but I only wanted the bangs straight.  I came back the next day after he confirms (unbelievable) and they don't apologize for anything, nothing about how it was an inconvenience or how they cared that I was unhappy, NOTHING.  The girl that was assigned to trim my bangs told me to not take my coat off, it wouldn't take that long.  She also would not comment on whether she thought they were crooked, these people at Marc Harris should go into politics, really!  None of them would take any responsibility.  I really cannot believe this salon, I know its just hair and it will grow back, but I paid for a service and not only was I unhappy with the result, but I was insulted on top of it.  I will never go back there and I will tell anyone who cares to know to never go there!  I am now acquiring quite the hat collection, thank you Marc Harris.

I tried Salon Marc Harris because of all the advertising and a confirmation from a co-worker that they do a great job. I booked an appointment with Chris. He is very sweet and he really knows what works for my face. I tell him what idea I have in mind and he just works with it and makes it happen. He is also very liberal with his use of foils! I have only had good experiences here and would recommend it to anybody who likes to treat themselves to a nice hair experience.

I don't pay too close attention to the pretentiousness that is Newbury Street which I feel probably makes my experience that much better.

I have never loved my hair more than I do now.  Lauren did an absolutely fantastic job and I WAS late, but had the decency to CALL (it's what cell phones are made for!).  The receptionist thanked me for calling and asked me how late I thought I'd be.  I told him maybe five minutes, if that, and that's about what it was.  I apologized again once I got there, but everyone was fine and helped me out as though I'd gotten there 10 minutes early (which I wish I had to take advantage of the beverages!).

The problem I have with some salons (including Dellaria Kenmore, which I did go to for a few years during college) is that they won't just do their thing once you tell them vaguely what you want (my stylist asked me if I had a picture and made me look for one); I told Lauren I wanted to keep the length, create a longer side-swept bang, and lighten up the weight with lots of layers (I have ridiculously thick hair).  My hair is SO temperamental and people always used to look at me confused when I said I never air dried it because it looked like absolute crap when I did, but this STILL looks fantastic.  No matter what I do to it.  If it's humid, it gets wavy and a little funky, but in a good way!  She just knew what to do with my hair and did it.

As for Dellaria Kenmore supposedly being a better salon, I actually was late for one out of my countless appointments there because I got stuck on a T on the nigh of a Sox game (I'm talking five minutes AND I was underground) and she'd already taken someone else!  And gave me attitude about it.  I never went back.

Anyway, I don't know what people are complaining about, if you want a pretentious salon without "tubby staff," then go to another snooty salon on Newbury, which Marc Harris ISN'T known for.

The massage chairs add a nice plus to the shampoo....I was so stressed out when I went in, but I felt better than great when I left....actually I'm inspired to make a new appointment now, it has been a while...

UPDATE: I returned to Marc Harris again, this time with an appointment with Paula (only because Lauren is in Andover on Saturdays and I like the option of having my hair cut on the weekend).  She also did and AMAZING job and I just don't understand what anyone's talking about when they say the interior's blah...first off, I don't really care as long as they can cut hair well, and second, I think it looks great WITHOUT looking like they've tried too hard.  Maybe it's just me.

I don't think I'll go anywhere else in Boston...if I could afford it, I'd be getting my hair cut all the time!!

I think I had a fluke experience. I had a cut booked with Paula, and arrived 5 minutes late due to the Green line breaking down. I called the salon ahead of time to let them know. When I arrived, Paula scolded me repeatedly and said she wouldn't be able to do my hair completely.

The wash and cut were fine. But then, she decided to use a diffuser on my wavy hair in conjunction with some awful 'beachy hair' product when all I wanted was a regular blow-out! She said she was just getting more curls and would smooth it out.

Well.... the curls looked more like gelled tangles and my hair was a mess. I asked her to stop diffusing and just blow it out already! She refused, saying she had another client waiting and if I hadn't been so late it would have been possible. I looked like a wet poodle. Awful.

I bolted home and washed/blow-dried my hair myself. The cut was fantastic and has lasted a long time. I'm going to try them again, but with a different stylist.

"How do all the rich old hags make it up all these stairs with their chain mail Chanel bags???" *puff* *puff*

Oh...there was a beautifully quaint old elevator...(*note: take the elevator.  Salon Marc Harris is several flights up)

I came here with a male friend to the play the role of "no, I'm not the girl friend" girl friend which I recommend every straight guy come accompanied with to this upscale salon on Newbury Street.

The interior was crisp, sleek, and clean and the receptionist was wonderfully gay and delightful.  I helped myself to some Starbuck's coffee and the huge selection of elitist, gossipy magazines about the latest galas and cellulite treatments.

They only carry Keratase and their own salon brand of beauty products, which I have yet to try.

My friend's stylist is a genius.  She accepted my goofy, DMB-lovin', BMW-floorin', I'm-from-the-cape, clueless friend (who was 20 minutes late to his appt.) and transformed him!

Great cuts from Krista, though I'm not crazy about  how she styles my hair (not straight enough.)

My friend LOVES Lauren for a cut, and another loves Rogue for color.

My cut is only $40-45 which you really can't beat on the Newbs.  Will keep going here, check it out.

Finally, I have a stylist!

I met Paula very serendipitously about a year ago. I had spent the day shopping and was heading home to unload my bags and figure out the rest of my day. A girl walking on the street handed me a flier. A salon was hosting an event to raise money for a stylist to go on the 3 Day Avon Breast Cancer Walk. I needed a haircut. I went.

Paula, though she didn't work at that salon, was giving up her Sunday towards the effort. She was very nice, listened to what I was looking for and then executed it beautifully. I took her card and knew I'd found a stylist.

Since then she's been my stylist. She's remembered me since my first time back and even remembers what I like and some of the details of my life that I've shared while in her chair. She's so nice and great to talk with (though doesn't talk my ear off, I usually like to be quiet while getting a cut). I just got a cut from her on Saturday. I wasn't sure if we'd gone too short on the bangs (at my direction)...But then I went out that night and received so many compliments! One friend even asked who I go to!

For the salon, it's pretty typical of Newbury St. Perhaps it's trying to be something it isn't quite, but I've never felt the pretension. The desk staff are very nice, even recognized my neighborhood by the street name! They carry Kerastase (uh-mazing line if you can afford it) and their own product. Massage chairs during your shampoo, a gimmick? Perhaps. But it sure is relaxing. Also: scalp massage. Enough said.

I found this salon on Yelp and am happy to say that since i found it almost 3 years ago I have been a loyal customer. I always see Genevieve and she does a fantastic job. I always leave with a great haircut that I insist on telling her is my "best ever." She just keeps getting better I guess. I have never experienced the snotty attitudes that previous reviews have reported. I think they are all very friendly and I always feel so relaxed here. The massage chairs help. I hate the standard hairstylist conversations that they feel compelled to have at other establishments but Genevieve is really interesting and just a cool person so I am happy to chat away while she works her magic. They even do free bang trims in between cuts. This place is a great find on Newbury St. and I highly recommend it.

I've always believed that a good haircut isn't about the salon you go to but the person you go to. Well after experiencing a awesome cut from Lauren on Newbury Street (and she works in Andover some days) and going back many times and witnessing the other stylists in the salon I can honestly say Marc Harris holds very high standards for all their staff. If Lauren were to ever pack her bags and move across country I would be happy going to anyone else in this salon. Definitely worth the price, which isn't even that bad compared to other high-end Newbury salons.

I am also a devoted Marc Harris fan. No unnecessary pretension, just great cuts and color. The first time I went, they were willing to come in early to meet me, and we had the whole salon to ourselves (that guy moved to James Joseph shortly thereafter). Since then, I've gone to Lauren three times for cut and full-foil highlights. She's fantastic. easygoing, nice, remembers me (with details!--this can't be overestimated in a salon), and sincerely cares that I have great hair. She's led me through going lighter to bangs without freaking me out, which is definitely a complement.

While nowhere on Newbury is going to be cheap, I find Marc Harris quite reasonable (compared to several similar salons-Vidal Sassoon, Salon Blue, etc.--in Chicago). Usually about $180 (including tip) for cut and full highlights. Plus, bang trims are free!

I cut my hair yesterday but I have  waited to write review until now because I didn't like my hair last night.  I actually knew I am going to be better today.

Well, cutting skill was OK.  My hair actually has different length left side and right side.

While the stylist was blowing my hair I realized his bad habit.  Compared with blond hair my hair is hard and need some moisture type of mousse when blowing.  In addition, hand combing is enough no need to use brush.  He just didn't know that.  Maybe I should have told him but I thought it's rude.

Now with my blowing, I look good!  However, blowing also stylist's important skill so I reduced one star.

Lauren is #1 at Salon Marc Harris

I have been seeing Lauren at Salon Marc Harris for 6 years now and each time I see her she comes up with new colors and new styles.  I am the type that use to be a hair dresser whore, until I met Lauren at salon Marc Harris.  I always want a change when it comes to my hair and I never get bored when it comes to Lauren.  The experience that I have with Lauren is always a great one.  She is so friendly and always makes me feel comfortable.

I've lived in the area for almost 5 years  and they have done a consistently amazing job on my cut and highlights every time I come in. Mostly I have Sidney do my hair (the owner's wife). As a senior stylist, she does an amazing job with my highlights, and I'm always in and out in under 3 hours (I have very long thick hair and I usually get a full foil, cut, and blowout!).

Pretty decent prices too. For all of this it's only about $220 before tip.

I do agree with some of the previous posts that it is a bit pretentious. But what else can you expect from Newbury Street?

Five stars for Mary Letson, who I've been going to for mmm, going on 10 years, now? An absolute pro and a truly down to earth person.

As for the salon itself, I liked their Ecocentrix incarnation better...it fit in more with my own aesthetic. Design issues aside, the place is clean and well run. And yes, as others have said, reception (Jake in particular) is very friendly as are the shampoo folks.

I've been trying to find a new stylist in the city and decided to go to Marc Harris after all of the reviews on here.

The first impression they gave me put a pit in my stomach, but I just kept my fingers crossed that it was just bad timing.  I had called a week ahead from the appointment date I was looking for and the receptionist put me on hold for about four minutes and then I finally just hung up.  I called the next day to try again, and again they put me on hold for about the same amount of time.  When she finally came back, I explained that I was looking to switch salons to were she replied "Oh god, had I known that, I never would've kept you on hold for so long."

Anyway, I had to reschedule the original appointment a few days later and I was forced to take a Saturday appointment at 11:30am that they said would last until 2:00pm.  I woke up hungover as hell, put on my best face and made my way into the salon.  They made me wait 10 minutes (god, I seriously hate waiting) but Yesi finally came over and got me.  I explained a general idea of what I was looking for and after two Allure's, a headache that wouldn't budge, and plenty of water, she spun me around to show me what she had done.  I was shocked by how good it looked.  She took my brassy blonde back to an almost platinum blonde, got rid of a ton of damaged hair and made me look fabulous.  I didn't want to go home after so I went to the Comm Mall and sat drinking a Starbucks coffee light frappucino feeling fantastic.

For some reason my boyfriend isn't a big fan of the cut... which seriously pissed me off... but oh well.  I'll definitely be going back to Yesi.

Went here after reading good things about it and about Yenci (pronounced Jessie). I have curly hair and she was so great with it. She is highly recommended for anyone with curly hair. She also told me to stop shampooing my hair and to just condition weekly and my hair now feels incredible.

Why is there no good place to get a haircut for less than 50$? Every place I've tried that advertizes 40$ cuts ends up being 60, not including tip. I mean, sure I could go supercuts but that would be more a bad idea than a good idea. Sigh.

Expense aside, Christina was my stylist and was wonderful - she actually listened to what I wanted and detailed all her styling as she went along so I could pretend to recreate the look later. Luckily it turned out to also be a pretty good wash-and-go cut. Unfortunately I don't think my meager income can handle being a regular.

Salon Marc Harris has three locations--the main one is on Newbury St but there is also one in Andover, MA and one in Providence, RI. Figured that might be useful to people who don't live downtown.

I go to the one in Andover and I've reviewed it on my page--check it out if you'd like. I love it :D

Highly recommend, I recently moved here and was looking for a hair stylist that would know how to cut my hair, as my hair grows thick and long, and if people don't know how to cut it or work it, it does not look right; and to preserve the natural wave my hair has.
BUT, WOW, ASK FOR "GENEVIEVE ROY", she is the best, she got it exactly the way my stylist back home cut it!!!!
It's a great place and very inviting; people are great!
If looking for a great place to get a haircut, look no further, than "Salon Marc Harris", and don't forget to ask for "Genevieve Roy"!

I was looking for a new stylist in Boston, and after a friend recommended I try Marc Harris, I decided to give it a shot. I initially made an appointment with Lauren, but she called in sick the day of the appointment, so I was asked if I wanted to book with Krista instead. I didn't mind because I had only made the appointment with Lauren the day prior.

I am very pleased with the results of my appointment with Krista. Although her bio is not on the website (as of writing this review), she's been at MH for two years. Besides being super friendly and extremely accomodating, Krista really listened to what I wanted (all over color to conceal some old highlights, and a haircut following the same lines of the last cut). The end results were an excellent cut, a beautiful all-over mahogany color that actually left my hair in *better* condition than when I came in, and the motivation to return to Krista in the future.

What I really think stands out about Krista is that she explained each step she was taking, from the minute to the obvious--this put me at ease, and made the process of trying a new stylist much more relaxing. Icing on the cake was the very reasonable bill for a cut, color, and a blowdry at a Newbury Street salon ($90 + tip). If you want a solid, communicative stylist, I recommend Krista.

It's tough to sort out what a good salon to go in Boston might be, especially as you sort through the perils of Newbury St.  Well ladies, I am done shopping around!  I've had my hair cut at Salon Marc Harris by Krista the last three times and I love it.  She always listens to what I want, but I always ask her what she thinks because, well, she's the professional, and I always think what she has to say is perfect.  She's easy to talk to and everyone in the salon is friendly and knowledgeable and I feel like I'm getting the best treatment.  The cherry on top?  The price is so reasonable!  Haircut prices are astounding, but I feel like I've found the right balance.  Check out their website and find your perfect stylist.

Is it strange that I live in Baltimore but have been here twice for my hair appointments? Nope. Not when the people at Salon Marc Harris know what they are doing, and are superfriendly while doing it.  Yesi does a great job with my hair, and I only wish I lived closer so that I could get my hair cut here more often. It's even cheaper than in Baltimore, which I could not believe. Great location and great energy in this salon.Go there now.

ok, pre-clause: i have really thick, heavy asian hair that's been colored, permed multiple times. it is NOT easy to work with. I was extremely skeptical of going to an American Salon (no racism involved here) because i've always gone to a professional, EXPENSIVE, Asian salon...

i decided to try Marc Harris based on the phenom reviews on Yelp --i wanted a FRESH NEW HAIR CUT for the summer...basically 6 inches all off, at the base of my neck.

I LOVE IT. I had and loved ROGUE, who really listens to all of your wants and concerns~ she's not just one to grab scissors~ and start chopping. she lets you know everything that she's doing~ the whole process start to finish. she explains how you should style, the time and effort it'll involve etc.

ALSO, if you're wanting to get a NEW LOOK, she's definitely the CREATIVE one to go to. she'll definitely encourage you to branch out~ while still catering to the texture and condition of your hair.

i can't rave enough~ (price-wise, it wasn't cheap, but it was DEFINITELY worth it!)

plan to book ahead if you DO want Rogue *especially if you're planning on going on evenings/saturdays~* because she gets booked at least 2 weeks in advance!

ps. they have massaging chairs that you sit in when you get your hair washed. AMAZING!

I absolutely LOVE this place, and I owe that all to Lisa McLaren.  She is amazing...I have never had so many compliments on my hair.  She is always willing and excited to try new things when I am up for it, yet she's awesome about the "just a trim" days too.  She completely understands what my hair will do and what I won't, and always has a nice long conversation whenever I want to do something that she thinks might not work the way I think it will (i.e. I have a terrible cowlick in the front, yet am always yearning for short bangs!).  I love her, I am always so excited the week before my appointment, and I would NEVER go anywhere else in the city.  Also, she is never pushy about products, but always has the best suggestions when I ask for them.

Thank you Boston Yelpers.  No, really, thank you.  Your reviews of Salon Marc Harris are the reason I went and I am SO happy I did.  Wow.

My hair looks amazing.  I love Rogue, in fact, I think we're soulmates.  I wasn't really looking to try a new salon as we may be moving in less than 6 months but I couldn't ignore the rave reviews or the fact my bangs looked like crap.  Do you know how hard it is to find someone who can properly cut bangs?  Really hard.  Rogue was able to clean up the horrible effects of several bad bang cuts and make them look fantastic.  She quickly understood and grasped the look I was going for and she asked all the right questions.  Because of the successive bad haircuts the back was so much longer than the front I told her to clean it up and she did a great job in doing so.  I found everyone at the salon to be very friendly.  I arrived and Rogue saw me right away and I never felt as if she forgot about me while I was sitting and waiting for the color to do its thing. The atmosphere was very laid back and relaxed especially given its location between A and B on Newbury.  I had such a great experience that I told my husband I was going to come back to Boston to have my hair done if we do indeed move!

2.20 Update:  As a treat to myself I booked an appointment with Janet for a blowout for my birthday.  I arrived and she was ready for me right away.  She ended up firing up the big curling iron and in 10 minutes I had huge sexy hair- it was awesome!!!  I would absolutely go back to Janet the next time I have a big night out.

I've been looking for a new place to get my hair cut since I've been in Boston...I thought I'd give this place a try, 90% because they could get me in right away & last minute, 10% because of the good reviews on here.  The receptionist was very nice & helpful, loved the massage chairs at the sinks (very nice perk)...and I ended up with a pretty nice haircut.  The thing that did irk me is that my stylist kept insulting my previous hairdresser and how she had cut my hair.  Maybe it annoyed me more because I had been going to her for several years and she's awesome...If I asked his opinion, maybe it would have been appropriate.  I'd rather go elsewhere...
