Yay for Salon Jam!

My sweetie and I both went for cuts during the past week, and were very pleased.  Salon Jam is fun and nicely decorated inside, yet relaxed and welcoming.  The prices are far better than many other salons of the same caliber.  On top of that, the cuts are great and the stylists are fun and upbeat.  You can tell that they get along with each other and enjoy what they do.

My wash, cut and style was a cheap $40 (women's short hair) plus tip.  I'm not sure exactly how much my partner's was, but I know his was a little less.  Parking is on-street but we nabbed a spot right out front.  The cuts were prompt, but not rushed.  Melissa, my stylist, made sure to give me what I wanted and when I asked for a little more off the sides she was happy to touch it up.

Looking at everyone as they left left, I was impressed by their skills in doing hand work with the scissors, instead of relying on clippers.  This gives the cut a less generic look and better movement.  Both of us have very short hair but you can tell we saw someone who takes pride in their work regardless of hair length.  This salon truly serves a wide range of customers, from older men with long, flowing white hair to younger punk-inspired ladies and everyone in between.  While there was a little down time here and there, they were generally busy so I do suggest making an appointment.  Any of the three stylists that were there would do a good job. I believe they were Matthew, Melissa and Mark, but I may be wrong on the last name.

I was nervous about trying a new salon after having such amazing experiences at Republic, back in Athens.  It's good to know that I'm in skilled hands with Melissa!

I've been going to Salon Jam for about 2 or 3 years.  They've always done a great job with my hair no matter who I was with (except for one girl but she either doesn't work there anymore or is only there one day a week).

The people are great and very friendly.  Lots of fun to talk with.  Usually there's no wait and if you show up early they can take you.

Definitely 5 stars cause they're always helpful and enjoyable.

Curtis needed a haircut, and a quick one at that. Salon Jam was the closest salon to our apartment. (He thinks barbershops aren't "hip" enough for him.) I made an appointment, but there was no wait when we arrived. I waited on the couch while glimpsing at the unique decor and artwork for sale (that are so common in Takoma Park). Curtis was taken back to the stylist's chair for a brief consultation, and then to the shampoo station. The cut itself took less than 20 minutes. The result? A minimalistically modern, yet edgy haircut. We were both satisfied. Plus, it was only $28 for men's wash, cut, and style.
