I've been getting my hair cut/colored and eyebrows waxed at my friends salon in Atlanta for the last few years, and as that is really inconvenient to drive 4 and a half hours for a hair cut I decided to give some places in town a try. I will admit when I walked in and saw how ridiculously trying-a-little-too hard-to-be-hip decorated this salon was I was tempted to bolt then and there. But I was in serious need of a salon visit and both my roommates had recommended this place, so I decided to stick around and try it out. (Its just hair right? It grows back right?)
The first service I tried was the waxing, which is what I was the most nervous about. I don't know if its just me or what, but usually I have to try out a few places before I find a beautician who does it just right. (Inevitably I always manage to go somewhere that rips off too much, leaving me virtually eyebrow-less) So imagine my surprise when they came out exactly how I wanted.
I was only going in for a trim, so there wasn't much to my haircut. But I have curly hair and the layers the girl cut turned out great. On top of that they give a 20% discount if you've got a student ID. I also love how you can schedule appointments via their website.
All in all I was pretty happy with my experience at Salon Fx. I got the cut with a dry and style plus the eyebrow wax for around 70$ after tax and tip. Which is pretty freaking awesome. I'm still trying out other places around town, but totally wouldn't mind giving this place my business again.

Salon Fx was the only salon I visited for my first couple years in Nashville because it was so close to campus and work and they offer a student discount. I had a couple regular stylists there that I liked, but then they would move to a salon too far away or get married to their Christian rock boyfriend in Colorado. Aside, from the feelings of abandonment I have fond memories of the place.
The decor is your standard, semi-hip sleek black and white design. The prices are reasonable. I'd usually get out of there for under $60 even with a tip. Everyone I met there was really friendly, except of course for the required surly snootiness of the girl at the front desk. I would definitely recommend the place if you're a student stuck in the area. If, however, you have access to other parts of town there are definitely hipper places to go (Trim and Chop Shop, for example).
First time to this place, and it is a nice modern looking facility, all the staff seem to be friendly and willing to make you feel welcome. I was able to get an appointment very quickly since they have so many people on staff, but I would suggest you check the bio's page on their website to pick out someone you will like.
Salon FX is convenient and cheap. But I can't say that I have had the best results here. They aren't necessarily BAD results, but it seems like you get what you pay for in Nashville. Yet, you don't have to pay too much more for a really high-end salon. Go to one of the better salons and maybe pay 20% more but you know you'll be getting the best stylists and the best work. It's worth it to me to know that I won't be butchered!
But, if you are looking for a salon that can get you in quick, and is better than... say, Fantastic Sam's, then this is a good choice.
I had Clay (Perhaps the only straight male hair dresser in existence) prep my roots for dying them on my own. He managed to bleach my hair and not cause notocable damage in one process! First time ever!
Since I have very dark hair usually it gets very damaged and they charge me for a double process. I usually walk out of the salon with orangey yellow hair, a $160 bill and dried out hair!
Not the case this time!!! The wash and blow dry was even included for $50!
The salon is totally professional and awesome. They do a huge array of services including laser hair removal. It has 9.5 on city search and there is a reason why!
Ive had my hair cut here a few times, but was never crazy about it! Definitely don't get your * waxed here! The employees were nice, its a convenient location and they will serve you a drink if you want!
I hate to write this review knocking the haircut I got done here at Salon FX, because the girl was totally sweet. The color she gave me was great. Problem? She gave me the most nonsensical, uneven, ugly layers that took months to get rid of. I was pissed for months! The back of my hair was chopped at random lengths, for what purpose other than irritating me, I don't know. I would not go back here, especially since it cost WAY too much. Skip it.
