I can only judge this place based on my experience with Taylor. She is as good as it gets when it comes to waxing my no-no-special-place. She makes you feel completely relaxed and at ease by talking to you the entire time about things completely unrelated to the fact that you're getting the hair ripped out of your lady parts.
It would be a lie to say that any waxing experience is completely painless, but Taylor's job is damn near close. She is pregnant and will probably be leaving soon so hurry up and book your appointment with her now! You WON'T regret it, I promise! I have never gone home with an ingrown hair or unsightly red marks/bumps, as opposed to when I've gone to Trim (bad times). Taylor all the way!
Right. I know this is sort of mean, but it's also sort of the point of Yelp so... I'm downgrading my review to warn people not to go here for hair colour.
BIG PROVISO - this does not apply to Natalia who is still lovely and a great waxer.
However... my hair has now grown enough to give me the full walloping effect of the dye job my stylist managed. Barely managed. My dyed portion of hair bears no relation to my undyed portion. Not even close. in fact, I'd say the root regrowth is worse, and the repercussions are worse because red is the most difficult colour to correct.
It's kind of unforgivable because I actually gave her the option to NOT match my roots, and simply dye my roots the same colour as my hair was. But she assured me she could correct it. As mentioned, it then took 3 hours, cost twice as much as I though, and THIS is what I get?
The haircut is pretty pants on its growout too. I'm actually really rather cross.

I finally decided it was time to color my hair. It had been about 8 years since I last colored my hair but I was in need of a change. I had tried a few other stylists in the past 2 years but no one cuts my hair like Lucy. She has a very unique style of cutting hair which works well for my coarse hair. I was extremely grateful I waited until I could schedule an appointment with her. The prices were very typical of what you would find in this area.
Unbelievable. I've been to numerous hair salons in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, and this salon sneakily charged me the most EVER. I called beforehand to check their prices, which I found to be standard ($50 - haircut, $95 for full highlight). So to no surprise my jaw dropped when they told me my cut, and partial highlights came out to be $260.00! WTF? I am still mad at myself for paying without saying anything. However they justified it, I still think it's crazy. The stylists trick you by saying they will "take care of you" by adding a protein treatment or intense conditioner, but they never say you will end up paying more than $150 extra than you expected to.
Ladies, we cannot let these salons do this to us anymore! They will charge whatever they think they can get away with if we don't say anything. I made a promise to myself to never again let this happen to me. DO NOT trust Salon Envy - they WILL rip you off.
Taylor is the best brazillian waxer!
I called as part of the "Love You" special in February and the person answering the phone is rude. She didn't know what I was talking about and when I explained it to her, she put me on hold right away. I did the same facial special last year and it was okay. She sounded annoyed and like I was bothering her.
The esthetician last year griped about doing the facials for $59 and made me feel bad. I think she did an okay job and decided to give it another shot this year.
Someone should train the receptionist on good customer service phone skills. Given this economy, I'm sure people are cutting spa luxuries out of their budget. You just can't afford to have rude people answering the phone and giving potential clients a bad first impression. I hung up and didn't schedule the appointment. The facial I recieved last year wasn't worth my giving my money to people who do not appreciate their customers more.
Taylor is great. I've had quite a few Brazilian bikini waxes and this was the best one in my life.
Taylor is friendly and a perfectionist.
Service is great at Salon Envy - I was seated almost immediately and they got me a cup of water and a magazine. The salon is kind of small but they have the best products and the best technicians.
Salon Envy is not exactly the envy of salons, but it is good enough to get the job done....
The best part about Salon Envy is that you can drive there! And park for free! In front of the store! I think that might be the only salon in the area that has free parking, so close.
I went to Salon Envy for a wax, and it was okay. I had to wait an extra 30 minutes (kind of a long time). I've read other reviews say the same thing about the timing...so just be forewarned that you will likely wait a while before your service.
The salon is rather small, especially the waxing area. I kinda felt like I was getting waxed in a closet. But the wax was good, so who can complain?
I would recommend Salon Envy to anyone who wants to drive and has ample amount of time.
So, the gal down the street from where I live jumped ship from one salon to another.

Lucy P. does a great job of cutting my hair every time. Hands down!

I went here for a brazilian as part of the pretty in pink promotion for the month of October. Just because its a promotion doesn't mean it should feel cheap. It was rushed. When I walked into the room Taylor told me to undress in front of her. (Usually they leave the room while you get settled in but I gave it all the benefit of the doubt.) It was a sign. When I left I still had wax and baby powder on me, and I was not impressed with the job because the next day I had ingrown hairs.
I few weeks later I thought I would go there for a haircut because I already had an appointment and thought they would be separate experiences. I saw Ellen for a haircut. She took her time and was nice. I would go back to Ellen but I will go somewhere else for a brazilian (hence the three stars because it evens out.)
Admit it: while looking for hair salons on yelp, you look at the person's picture to see if you like their hair. Just fess up! I've done it, you do it, and we'll do it again! No matter how great the reviews of a salon are, you may or may not look at the person reviewing and think "if I go there, is THAT what my hair will look like? yikes."
Well, if you like what you see......check out Salon Envy. I go to Dave, but I know the other stylists are all equally talented. I like Dave. He's sassy and doesn't just tell you what you want to hear--he knows not all hair is to be treated equally, thus, not all hairstyles will suit you. Sorry girls, but bangs don't look good on everyone, no matter how much you want to look like Heidi Klum.
I'll admit, I'm not crazy about the location--and the fact that it's in a strip mall sort of turns me off, BUT none of this detracts from the excellent results! BONUS: They use Kerastase, which makes your hair feel like a million bucks.
I'm prefacing this review with an important tidbit: I'm a bit of a hair snob!
If there's one thing I'm vain about, it's my hair. It's long and thick, and it takes some work to maintain. I was born blond, but over the years its slowly darkened to a "dirty" blonde. A shade that I despise actually, lurking somewhere between dark blonde and light brown.
As soon as I moved to Chicago, I set out on a mission to find a new stylist. First I wallowed in highlight mediocrity at Mario Tricoci. Then a friend suggested I try Salon Envy, and well, I've been absolutely smitten ever since.
Salon Envy uses the best products-- Kerastase. Every once in a while, they'll throw in a gratis Kerastase treatment. Though I'm not a fan of strip malls, they have a free parking lot! The salon itself is small but happy and inviting. Think purple.
My stylist, Caitlin, is a goddess. She's fun to talk to, beautiful, has great hair (always important to me when selecting a stylist) and is a color genius. Since I'm naturally light, she doesn't even use bleach for my highlights. She says that color can lift if you're only going a couple of shades lighter. The result is soft, less processed hair with a ton of shine!
Her haircuts are amazing, too. I always walk out armed with a perfect swingy blowout, ready to show off my new hair that evening!
Salon Envy isn't cheap, but the prices aren't outrageous. My full head of highlights yesterday cost $125. Well worth it!
I went to Salon Envy since my cousin recommended it, and am beyond happy! I couldn't be more pleased with my new highlights. The reason I went here was because i had been using the same stylist for a few years and I was bored with my hair, and I needed a change. My new stylist listened to my needs and helped me decide what I wanted, and I'm sure I come across as really picky. I'll definitely be using this place again.
Dave is the bomb!! He really listens to you, but also has a great sense of what will work and what will not. He has been doing my color for the last few months and I love him! I originally went to the owner, but when she went on maternity leave I went to Dave and now I will not go back.
A couple of complaints...I will agree that the turnover for the receptionist has been a lot, but I think they may have it under control. And although I love Kerastase and Shemura products, they are so expensive. It would be nice to have some products that are middle of the road price. I mean really did I need to spend $58 on conditioner?!!
A plus...they have parking albeit sometimes that lot can get packed, but for the most part I can park just fine!
Edit: 5/25. Got my hair trimmed ...did an OK job. It took 20 minutes start to finish. That just doesn't do it for me. DO SOMETHING to take up a little more time. Massage my head, pretend to thin things out, etc.
She took all this time to explain blowdrying...but then didn't really cut any of my hair. I need it to look good for awhile, not just sit there like a big hunk of square in the back of my head!
It definitely showed in the results. I was back to a mullet within a week. I have to go get my haircut again and its only been a month.
Sighhh...the search continues. The salon is really nice though, coupons for 20% off for new customers are on the website. Free parking lot.
My stylist moved here from another salon about 2 months ago, and since I like her work I followed her to Salon Envy. I agree that the parking lot is a fantastic perk, and the salon itself is small but cozy. Watch out for the front desk staff; not too helpful or interested. Have yet to try their spa services, but be sure to ask for Sarah Jessica for a great cut and color.
Remember to bring cash to tip . . .you cannot put a tip on your credit card!
After Sarah S. left Siren Salon, I followed her to Salon Envy - and have never regretted my decision for one moment. Both my partner and I have tons of hair - which can take a loooonggg time to cut and blow dry, let alone color and highlight. Sarah never bats an eye and is courteous and accommodating. I feel BEEAAUUTIFUL when I leave that salon!
Another great thing about Salon Envy - Taylor, their aesthetician. Fabulous facials! And my partner Lynn, who is REALLY fussy about her eyebrows, says Taylor is the BEST eyebrow groomer/dyer/shaper in the area. And another plus - Taylor removes milia - those tiny white hard things that you can get on your face that look like whiteheads. THANK YOU, TAYLOR! She is my savior because not only is it hard to find aestheticians who DO milia extractions but most dermatologists will CHARGE you for this as being a "cosmetic" procedure, i.e, not covered by insurance, which is a bunch of BULL. Free parking lot, too. Score!
My hair has been crying out for help and with a Vegas trip coming up in a couple of days, it motivated me to take action. Ellen was sweet and polite and I loved how she really took her time with her consultation to make sure we got the exact color highlights that I wanted. She wanted to go for a caramel color that matched my eyes and she succeeded perfectly. She also alternated the highlights with an additional similar color that made it look even better. Plus, Ellen also added on a free Kerastase treatment and gave me a blowout that made me look amazing. The boyfriend could not take his eyes of me which is always a good sign. I love love love how my hair looks now and I'll definitely be going back, especially since their prices are quite reasonable and everyone seems super nice!
I love Dave at Salon Envy. He always makes me look good. This place is great! I've never had trouble getting an appointment here. Dave is a blast to talk to and makes me feel totally relaxed while I'm there (the free wine helps too). They have a great selection of products. Dave always tells me what products he's using, but I never feel any sales pressure. I highly recommend him.
The only drawback is that you can't put a tip on your credit card, but I guess that's typical at most salons.

I visited salon envy for a bikini wax after reading positve reviews for Taylor here on yelp. best bikini wax EVER. Taylor is fast, virtually painless, and professional. she's fun to talk to and makes the process go by quick and easy.
I decided to give salon envy a try for a cut and color. after reading the stylists bios on the salon envy website - I decided to give Caitlin a try. I'm so glad I did! she did an awesome job on my cut as well as my highlights and lowlights. she took time to talk to me about what I wanted and what kind of look I was going for. I was very happy with how my hair turned out.
I made another apt. with her on my way out!
I highly reccomend both Taylor and Caitlin.
I got a haircut from Lisa, and will be back again soon because I need another. The receptionist was very nice, the salon itself is a nice average looking salon, it's in a strip mall. They sell high-end products by Kerastase, these are the greatest products. I paid 60 for the cut, and the products are expensive, so it's not the place you would go if you're looking to save money on your hair, but the stylists themselves are great and it's a good upscale salon without being pretentious.
I have been going to Salon Envy for the past year or so and absolutely love it there. I have always seen Sarah and she does a wonderful job on my hair. I have really long straight hair that grows really fast and she always keeps it looking nice and with a great style. The service here is great and I love how they massage your neck and head with the shampoo. Highly reccommended!
Only bad thing....can't tip on credit card, but you can pay by credit! Good to know. First time I was there, I had to run two blocks down just to get some cash out of the ATM!!!
I recently went to my first viit at Salon Envy with Lisa. Not bad.
-good color, i asked for a little more drastic but it does look good, just not exactly what i wanted, she did do a great job of making my hair look healthier
-she got a little scissor happy. i told her i wanted to grow out my bangs but they are still pretty short but she did reshape them
my hair looks great, not exactly what I wanted but I think it is a tleast 50% my fault in not being strong in communicating what I wanted.
I am going to go back here but just be more vocal. $165 for my highlight and haircut
I've tried many many hair salons in the Chicago area and this is one of the best! Great atmosphere. Susan gave me fantastic highlights on my blonde hair and a very complementary cut. Would recommend to anyone that want a salon with attention to detail and great laidback service. I will be back! ;)
I've been to Salon Envy twice now, once for a cut with Dave and once with Lisa. My first time I sat down in Dave's chair he told me exactly what he thought and we went for it. I've always wanted a hairstylist that will tell me what to do with my hair because I'm always lacking ideas. It looked great for a week but then the sleek cut he gave me wouldn't stand up to the Chicago humidity. This time i went in and saw Lisa. The cut was also okay but nothing outstanding.
The boutique is really cute and everyone is nice. I noticed they both did a great head massage while shampooing. There is a free parking lot but it often fills up and is tough to find a spot, so come early.
After trying many salons in Chicago to find one I really liked... I landed on Salon Envy. I love the small, quality salon atmosphere. I always feel amazing after leaving here and have a cut that is easy for me to work and fits my lifestyle.
I use to live in Columbus, Ohio and would drive 2 hours back to my home town just to get my hair cut and colored for fear that going to someone new would spell disaster (I am VERY picky). When I moved to Chicago a few months ago I came to the sad realization that my 8 year relationship with my hair stylist in Ohio was ending, and it was time to find someone new. I mustered up the courage in September to make an appointment with Caitlin at Salon Envy and have never been happier! She does an amazing job and I never leave disappointed! I feel like she always listens to what I want, and doesn't pressure me into anything I am iffy about. Oh and another plus - FREE PARKING!
After desperately looking for a salon that I can depend on I can definitely say that Salon Envy is it! The atmosphere was great and the parking was definitely a plus. I went in there with a huge hair color disaster and walked out with a beautiful brown shiny shade! I also had a great cut. Now my hair looks awesome and the cut made my hair definitely easy to style. Everyone in the salon was friendly and helpful and made you feel welcomed. Ask for Sarah for a great color and cut. She will definitely tell you what will look great on you!

I am an avid supporter of Taylor to do my monthly waxings, including brazilians. She has always been so professional and she makes the whole process so easy. She talks to you and makes you feel comfortable during an awkward moment. But Hey, we're all ladies here. Yes, ladies, it is not easy being a woman (sigh) ...waxing eyebrows, lips, arms and legs is a price we pay to be lovely. But who better to do the job than Taylor. I love Taylor and will follow her anywhere since she is so good at what she does. She also does facials as well.
I have an upcoming Wedding and will be contacting a stylist there to inquire about a wedding hair trial. They are new and slowly growing, so I almost appreciate this more since they are more relaxed and low-key, vs, some salons that are nothing but snotty (like you are doing THEM a favor). I never feel that way here and highly recommend them, for brazilians for now at least. Ask for Taylor, she is awesome!
I am an avid supporter of ther underdogs in any industry, since they are new on the scene, once they get my stamp of apporaval. Furthermore, I already have great faith and trust in them due to how great Taylor has been to me and her clientelle.
I was offered a free waxing at the old salon, a scheme to keep old customers happy with Taylors replacement. I honestly will not be using it (even though it is free). I am that loyal.

I have been going to Salon Envy and absolutely love it! I have referred almost every family member or friend I know that was looking for a new salon or not totally satisfied with the one they were currently going to. Not only does it have a nice atmosphere and convenient parking, but the people are friendly and do an excellent job. I get a regular highlight and cut and my girl does the color in such a way that I don't need to go in as often and I don't have roots. Definitely give it a try!
My roommate and I have been going here for the last year and have both been really happy with the results. I definitely recommend Kaitlin as a stylist. She is friendly and makes you feel really calm while she works. I have gotten my haircut and highlights here and have loved the results both times. I think the price is reasonable, there is a parking lot and a referral program for clients so you can get money off of future visits by referring people who also get 20% off their first visit. If you would like to do that you can message me and then I think you get 20% off or they have a coupon online.
I had a great experience at Salon Envy. My hairstylist (Tracie I believe) was fabulous. It was affordable and way better than the other salon experiences I've had in Chicago. I'm really happy with the cut and I had a nice time in the salon. Plus it's really convenient and I can park there.
I went to Salon Envy recently and was very pleased with the result. I told Tracie that I was trying to grow out my hair and didn't want to cut too much off of my current length. She put some nice layers in and I was really suprised by how much hair she was able to keep. The next day a friend at work commented at how long my hair was getting. I took that as an uber-compliment. I'll go back to Tracie.
If you're as picky as I am about highlights, you need to meed Caitlin at Salon Envy. Not only is she a cool chic to chat with, she's a perfectionist and LISTENS to what I want. My highlights look great and her hair cuts give my fine hair serious volume. Also, she's honest about what products will work on my hair and are worth the $$. It's nice not to pay for parking either. Now, if only it was in my neighborhood.........
I highly recommend this place. I go to Catlin, who was recommended by a curly-haired friend. Catlin is amazing and I've said she is a magician b/c she works wonders. She cuts my hair, which I've always been pleased with and she will blow out my curly hair and it looks amazing. I love going to her and I know the results will be fantastic.
WAXING--Taylor is terrific. She's fast, professional and thorough. I've sensitive skin and usually do better in terms of minimizing redness and ingrowns with cold compress immediately after ripping out hair and/or witch hazel. She just uses baby powder and I've had almost NO problems. The double-dipping with wax gives me heebie jeebies but I think it's pretty standard and, again, I've not had any problems.
Finding a hairstylist in a new city is always a challenge. I got the name of the salon from a friend and have been their twice now, once for a haircut and once for highlights with Dana. Both times I was extremely pleased with the results. Dana listened to what I wanted and what my concerns were and gave suggestions based on my hair type and willingness to spend time on it. She also talks through what to do to keep it looking good. The atmosphere is relaxed and everything you would want for a salon. I feel pampered when I go there. The parking lot is a huge plus as well.
