disclosure: i live upstairs from salon eleven
regardless, it's fantastic. I'm not one that pays much attention to my hair, in fact, i just get up and go with the bed head thinking it's better than anything i could do on purpose.
But i go to Jessica at the salon and she makes magic happen. She shampoos, cuts, and styles it so that once a month, i have good hair. She also offers touch ups so you can swing by any time between cuts to have things trimmed and shaped. I pay $45 for my service which is a deal especially considering the wine and beer service.
When ever I go to a salon it is the walk of shame because by the time I go to the salon my hair is in BAD shape and after my zombie teased hair on Halloween it was really bad not to mention my grocery store hair color from the last time it was colored. It's a sad sight.
So last night I came to see Jared and I told him my story which he was nice but I know he was thinking what the hell have you been doing to your hair?
I was offered a drink which I eagerly accepted. They have an espresso machine, water and vino.
3 hours later Jared managed to transform my homeless woman hair to more stylish do. No longer will people be dropping coins in my coffee cup. :)
Thanks Jared for staying late and helping me out and I didn't make it to the Clippers game but I finished watching it at home...they won...oh yeah you're a Laker fan. :)
Oh...his assistant and the receptionist were super sweet too.
I was looking for a salon in DTLA and I am so happy I found Salon Eleven! It is so easy to schedule an appointment and upon arrival the staff is so friendly. My appointments have always been in the morning so I've passed on the free beverages for fear of being labeled as a "Wino", but it's such an added bonus having that option.
As an accountant, I lack all that is creative and expressive so my hair is my only real art form. Recently I decided to transform myself and chop it all off. John did a perfect job and I couldn't be any happier with the cut. I completely trust him with my hair and value his opinions! He is also a cool guy with no BS. The only con about a short haircut is that it requires an enormous amount of maintenance, which I cannot afford. But John, I promise I will be back!
Lastly, they host cool classes (hair, makeup, ect.) and parties for their clients. I've never been because of my hectic work schedule, but I'm sure they are a good time! It's a great salon with a fun staff and all downtown dwellers should check out Salon Eleven and John Esparanza!
Loved, loved, loved my experience at Salon Eleven! I had the lovely Ivonne do a full head of highlights and she did a great job. I have very dark brown hair and had not dyed it in years but Ivonne reassured me that it would work and I put my trust in her talented hands. I enjoyed some wine and the art on the walls while I waited and overall, the experience was very enjoyable. This salon is invested in the community and that makes it even more special. Everything came out to $150 so its not exactly cheap, but definitely worth the investment. Plus, you get a 10% discount on your first visit.
"Are you more excited about the color or the cut?", asks Jared.
At the time, I was excited about the color.
When I walked out of the salon, I was excited about the color and cut.
Almost a week later, I'm still as excited about both as I was that day.
Salon Eleven has everything that I was looking for in a salon: a convenient location, friendly people and - most importantly - amazing results. I have to admit, after leaving Salon Eleven, I starting flipping my hair while walking down the street and checking myself out in car windows and neighboring store fronts...I'm sorry, I know...but I've never felt that hot after getting my hair done. It was beyond what I had expected.
I came in for a color and a cut with Jared, who is super nice and willing to give tons of input. You get a lot of dynamic feedback - you give input, he gives input, you respond - that's probably why you look so good at the end of it all. You just have to trust that he knows what he's doing...I was a little apprehensive when I saw him cutting away (who isn't when they see that first cut?), but by the time he was done blowdrying, I had seen the inspiration.
Beyond my hair and Jared's awesomeness, the salon's super chic. It's in Downtown LA, within walking distance of LA Live, and has the same hip LA vibe to it. Check out the artwork on the walls - apparently it comes from local LA artists and swaps out every couple months.
I think it's obvious by now that I love Salon Eleven, but c'mon now - if a salon can get me to look as good as I did that day (or, more importantly, feel as good as I did that day), it deserves every one of those five stars, plus some.

Parking is the only complaint I've got. Stephanie is awesome, she made my mom & I looked rocking hot on my banquet night. For 65 bucks each (excl. tips), the one-sided curly hair do (think mermaid like) she did for me was perfect.
Also, the free consultation is a plus..... who can say no to free margaritas! After this, a hair cut/ hair perm... anything that has to do with my hair I'll entrust it to salon eleven. I LOVE YA STEPHANIE!
I love this place.
I friggin love this place. And I love Jessica.
- It's in my building, so I walk down and voila.
- Jessica is a maestro with my hair. She listens to what I want and accomplishes it, and also then shows me exactly how to style it and in what order in the morning. Since I'm a dude, this helps tons. Also she listens to my girl problems and laughs at my lame jokes at appropriate times. She also "gets" what I mean when I use layman terms to describe the effect I'm going for with my hair. One time, I was in a real rush and she sped the entire process up and still managed a great job. She's a doll, I love her.
- They give you wine. I always get drunk here. I usually have 3-4 glasses. One time they asked me if I wanted a corona to take home. Of course.
- People are extremely friendly and courteous.
I just moved down to LA and found this on yelp... you guys did a great job with the suggestion.
Jared, one of the owners, is the man. He definitely understands people like me who have absolutely no idea what to say when a stylist asks how you want your hair.
They also have pretty awesome art on the walls that they rotate out seasonally.
Free parking across the street.
I scheduled my appointment through their website and was contacted to confirm my appointment time within an hour. I was scheduled for a cut with Ivonne.
Parking at the lot across the street is free. Upon entering the salon I was greeted with a friendly hello and offered a drink (wine, beer, lattes, water). It was a very nice touch.
Ivonne is a very friendly person and so welcoming. First, she sat me down to discuss what I was looking for. I had pretty long hair and was looking for a substantial cut. Next, she shampooed my hair and massaged my scalp for at least 10 minutes. It was another nice touch.
Now onto the cut! Ivonne was so thorough and really took her time and gave me the style I wanted. She cut off at least 6 inches and gave me a lot of texture and some bangs. It was a big cut, and she did a great job. What I liked most about Ivonne was the fact that she used very little product on my hair and only used a flat brush to blow dry it. I wasn't going to have to go home and try to work some magic with a round brush and hairspray to recreate what she did. She showed me just how to do it and the only tools I needed were actually my fingers.
The salon was very nice, and I'm looking forward to my next cut..
I finally found the best hair person in all of SF and Los Angeles, as I live half time in both places. I used to pay 110 to go to this bs place in SF, which got old so I wanted a fantastic cut but for a good price which I found at Salon Eleven. GO SEE STEPHANIE SANCHEZ, she is the best stylest I have ever had and I am extremely high maintenance when it comes to my hair, she is nice and most importantly extremely talented and wont break the bank. Highly recommended. I will not go anywhere else.
Love them! I live in the building above their salon, so convenience is great of course. It's nice to finally go into a business where staff sincerely greets you with a smile on their face.
Love Jared, who cuts my hair, and he always cuts my boyfriend's hair fabulously as well!
Greg really understands how important customer service is to a business, and it is much appreciated!
All of my comedically brilliant fellow Yelpers know the scene in This Is Spinal Tap with the amp that could be turned up to 11 and not just up to 10. Well, that's the kind of ampage I'm talking about.
Personally, I see most experiences in life much like Rob Reiner probably sees them: as though I'm in a mockumentary. That is, there are few moments in my day to day where people aren't either taking themselves too seriously or when I'm unable to turn a situation in my imagination into what would make a great mockumentary scene.
So when I emailed Salon 11 a couple weeks before my old Hollywood glamour-themed firm formal with a picture of Rita Hayworth and asked if they could do my hair and makeup like her, my mockumentary spa experience began.
I couldn't have had a more enjoyable spa experience I think. There were young professionals, entertainment-folk of all kind, relaxing and being fed wine to their heart's content. The hospitality, music and décor tastefully crossed lines between patrons' native cities (doubtfully LA), generation and zip code.
My stylist and makeup artist, John, couldn't be described any way other than fabulous. He even suggested a better era hair style than I was able to come up (Veronica Lake - see pics for Salon 11) with and adapted the era makeup to present day.
I sent my boyfriend to John and he came back even cuter... John made my perfect ten an eleven!
Everyone was professional, friendly, and surprisingly down to earth. The location is easy with free parking and safer-feeling than much of downtown.
The salon also hosts learning events and it's walls are home to some pretty inspiring local artists' work. This place is now a fixture in my LA mockumentary.
I love this place! The people who work here are really nice and friendly. I even overslept a haircut appointment once and showed up several hours late, and they didn't even get mad at me in the least. And they give a great haircut for not too high a price.
OMG. I wanted to say something good and I really wanted to like this place, but after what happened yesterday, I have got to give this place only one star.
I saw John for a hair cut a week ago which went really well. After the hair cut and talking with him, I went back to get my brown hair dyed auburn. I ended up with roots that were (no bullshit) pink and the bottom was a dark, red purple-y hue. The corrective colorist said in the 22 years since she has been correcting color she has never seen anything like it. When I asked John if the roots look too bright or why it wasn't auburn. He said that I should live with it for a few days and come back to have it corrected. It was so bad I was trying to find words to explain the problems but couldn't. The person who did the correction (see my review of Joanne Harris) just kept saying "Oh God?! How the hell did he even do this?!" It wasn't an easy correction.
Like I said, to be fair, he offered to correct it. But it was troubling that he would even think that his results were arguably competent. Plus, what idiot goes back to the person who did that kind of shoddy work for a correction? After a $185 dollar bill, I ended up spending more than double that to have it corrected.
John's cut was good and the salon had a nice vibe, but if you are considering a color, I'd go elsewhere.
Katie has been job hunting for over a month with very little success. Katie went into Salon Eleven yesterday and had her hair re-colored. Later that night, while eating at a restaurant, she was offered a job. Coincidence? I think not.
So, it's finally happened! Downtown LA at long last has a high-style Salon to call its own, and boy, does it look GOOD. As other reviewers have all echoed, the salon has a hip yet inviting atmosphere. I believe the art is actually on regular rotation with local artists being able to showcase their stuff, unless I've been horrendously misinformed. Everyone working here is friendly and accommodating. And they're good-looking. That's not a combination you tend to see much of around here.
I took my two hours in the chair with John and the change was akin to the 2nd coming of Christ [see photo]. Seriously, I don't know what witchcraft this man is practicing but he needs to be burned for it because I have never had a better cut and color right off the chair. Full highlights, shampoo, blow-dry, cut and style all rounds off to a highly competitive $190. That's a whopping $200 less than Lukaro for the same work... but hey, who's keeping score? ;)
I went in here with hair past my waist and asked Jared to lop off 14 inches.
He did a fabulous job, I was so happy with the cut and color job he did on my hair. His assistant (I think her name was Katy) was very friendly too.
The bottomless wine glass, of course, helped.
I wound up paying $150.00 for the cut and color, but the whole thing took 3 hours, so this wasn't some in-and-out cut em out and out-you-go with a coupon for next time deal that you'd find at the Hair Barn or Fantastic Cuts. The staff was very attentive and the experience was quite enjoyable, well worth the price, which for Downtown LA was also quite reasonable.
I hate foo foo, HATE it. Businesses that put on style and attitude for show bring up the bile in my throat, and just about any salon is suspect in my book. I have, however, gotten old enough to realize that a good cut costs real money, and you get what you pay for in both the short and the long run. That said, I was VERY pleased with my visit here. Yes it has a cool look, yes all the stylists go to more interesting parties than I do, but everyone I dealt with was genuine, professional, and created an environment where I was comfortable to discuss what I wanted done to my head. If the only way you can be happy is to be belittled by hair-dressers when you weigh in on how your own hair should look, and then get charged triple digits for the "experience" then Salon 11 may not be for you. Otherwise, its great, as in, drive downtown for a cut and deal with parking and traffic, and still be OK with that, great.
I finally had time to get a haircut. Iris R.'s review convinced me to try this place out.
Jessica is amazing! She is very knowledgeable about hair and cares a lot about making you look great. I got a haircut and love it. She is also a huge "Lost" fan, for those who are looking for others to analyze the show.
There is free parking in the lot across the street. They aim to please and have coffeee/tea/wine for your sipping pleasure. The hair wash includes a great head massage. 10% discount on your first visit (or first haircut); doublecheck that!
If it was so great, why the four stars and not five you ask? Well, haircut still came out to about $68 (with tip) and you just can't beat the $35 haircuts in Koreatown. For the sake of budgeting my limited funds, I will switch back and forth but I love this place!
You can also get a manicure or pedicure here too. Half of the salon is the hair section and the other half caters to your hands/feet.
This review won't be nearly as convincing as it could be without the fabulous pictures of my new hair color that I have yet to take and post. But, take my word for it: my hair looks great. I went in this afternoon and three hours later, I emerged a new woman. Or, at least, the same woman with new hair.
This wasn't three hours of boringness, either, this was three hours of having my hair pampered and paid close attention to. Everyone there was totally cool and fun to be with, and I wouldn't go to any other place ever again.
Pics will be out soon, and then all you nonbelievers can see for yourselves.
I live walking distance from this salon and I love it! I have gotten my nails done here multiple times and the girls always do a fantastic job! Pedicures are heavenly as well! I just made an appointment for a dye job on my hair and I know they will do a great job.
I don't think I can go to any other salon any more.... I am so spoiled here.
Not only are the people uber friendly, but I also get to sip on some wine or espressos while getting prettied up!
Its just a very comfortable and convenient place for me~
Everyone should check them out!
How refreshing to find a very cool, hip salon in the middle of what is going to be the hottest neighborhood in LA.
They haven't let the coolness of the place reflect in the prices. I was just talking to a stylist who has a salon on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica and they are getting $250 a haircut and up.
Well maybe in the near future prices will reflect the ambience but for now it is a bargain compared to any other great salon in LA.
I have much love for this business, because they served me wine when I walked in the door for my appointment. I have been coming back ever since. Jessica is my fav hairdresser, and I'm overly picky. She's got a lot of experience under her belt and doesn't rush me. I got free parking with my appointment, it's close to school (FIDM), and I always feel welcome in this neighborhood salon. $65 for my cut and blow dry.
Jared turned my over-processed mousy hair into something fierce. I am super glam now. I love the blonde streaks he layered next to my darker natural hair color. My hair looks hip and edgy, but still professional---just like I asked him to make it.
I found this salon via YELP, and I wanted to make sure I gave it a shout-out, because it it definitely one of the best salons in downtown. I've lived downtown for nearly 10 years, and I am so happy to have a place to go that's so close by.
I love my cut! Jessica Blair was my stylist and she was attentive and updated my look for me. I am going to go back there for sure. It's also so close to work/home. Free parking too, in DTLA that's amazing.
I went to the Salon based on the reviews at Yelp. I was welcomed by very friendly service and the salon is very classy and clean. I was taken care by John, he was very friendly and caring. I showed him a picture of the look he was going for. Although he suggested something different since he thought my hair was too damaged for the look I wanted to achieve. When it came to paying the bill it ended up being 370 dollars for hi-lights, cut, and base color. I was disappointed that he also added lo-lights without my knowledge that it was going to be an extra charge. I was at at budget of 200 for the service. The reason I give them the 3 stars is because my boyfriend spoke to Jared and he credited the Lo-lights charge. Unfortunately, I will not be returning because he didn't give me the ultimate look i was going for. And my head is about 4 different shades!
Great service, upscale without being pretentious, and the work they do is fantastic! Jessica did my hair and she was very detail oriented. Everyone else mentioned all the great things about this place...so I'll just add that there is free parking directly across from the front door of Salon Eleven.
Thanks to all the yelpers, I came to this salon and got a hair cut. Jared did an amazing job with my hair. Not only that but he was so friendly and really listened to what I had to say about my hair. The service here is great and plus there's free parking across the street, which is rare in LA. Remember if you go here, I think they give a discount for your first time. I will definitely come here regularly.
Found this salon via Yelp a while back, visited and I have become a happy regular. Its a wonderful experience to get your hair done here. Greg is wonderfully attentive right from the moment you come in. Jared is a hair God. Best stylist to handle my hair, ever. Great salon!
They got rid of their nail service! I'm so bummed....where am I going to find a nail salon in Downtown within walking distance?

Worth trying. Love the atmosphere there. The people are very friendly too!
Normally, I don't get my hair cut at non-Korean salons. No, I'm not racist, but I have really difficult hair to cut (super-straight Asian hair) and it shows every little careless mistake that a stylist might be able to get away with on other people's hair. So, normally, I only go to Korean salons where they're used to cutting hair like mine.
HOWEVER, I live in the same building as Salon Eleven, and it was just too conveniently located to not try it once. I've been wanting to get bangs for a really long time and most stylists wouldn't cut them for me and said that they wouldn't look good on my face. So I strolled down to Salon Eleven and snagged a quick appointment in Jessica's chair. She squeezed me in between appointments and cut me bangs just like I wanted and I couldn't have been happier! AND, she didn't even charge me because it was "just" a bang trim. I went back a week later because they were slightly longer than I wanted, and she again squeezed me in and did a quick trim at no charge. She was great, and I love the bangs. I was so happy to find a GOOD stylist so close to home, and one who actually listens and gives me what I want.
The salon is impeccably decorated and maintained, the staff SO friendly and nice, and I just had a great (and relaxing pedicure) there. The prices are reasonable, and overall they just treat you to an amazing experience. Granted, I haven't had a full haircut there yet, but I'm fairly confident that I won't be disappointed when I do.
I woul like to recommend this place this is one of the best salons in downtown los angeles.employees are very frienly.
So I cruised by Salon Elleven the night before it opened, and voila! I was greeted by the three owners with wine, cheese, and fruit. They also gave me a mini tour of the soon to be opened Hair Salon. As is consistent with the contemporary theme of the buildings here at Grand & 11th, the interior decor of Salon Elleven is minimal, clean, and functional. Me likes the dark wood, porcelain white, and chromes! A cool plasma screen at the entrance greets you with sashaying models on a runway...which makes me feel like they know what they're doing in here. I'm currently letting my hair grow out, so i won't be getting a cut anytime soon, but as soon as I need a consultation, haircut, and style, ($40 for men, $55 for women) I'm coming down here to see what the South Park can deliver on urban panache. I'm talkin' feathered sides, blown out back, and really, really, messy on top. Well, I'll wait and see what Jared, Christiana, and Greg have to say about that. As for the initial impression on the interior...this is exactly what an urban hair cut place needs to look like! Oh, and also, I picked up a menu from them and they offer manicures, pedicures, coloring, perms, and make-up. Kewl.
First off, this is a great salon. Trendy atmosphere and super-friendly staff. Greg, the owner, is there most of the time and very willing to cater to the clients with refreshments and anything else they may need. And Jessica and Jared, two of the stylists, are very knowledgeable and take time with your hair. However, the reason I give this salon 3 stars instead of 5, is that the prices are a bit high for someone whose hair does not require much work. I have wavy to straight hair and for the most part, it is not difficult to manage. I went in for a cut and overall color and paid close to $200 inc. tip. I've had comparable (better) cut and color done at salons where I paid half that price. So my advice is unless you have unruly hair which most salonists do not seem to understand or are looking to have a complex cut done, there is no need for you to be spending this much to get your hair did.
This salon deserves so much more than just a rave review! Cool urban setting and skills to match. Jared knows how to work with curly hair and did a phenomenal job on mine. Dont be afraid to try something new, you are in good hands at Salon Eleven.
