i have been getting my hair cut at Salon de Vive for over eight years and have been with Stephanie for the last five.
I would never consider going anywhere else.
The room is open and sunny and as invitingly warm as each member of the staff. From the moment I walk in to the shampoo to sitting in the chair, I am treated like the only person there. Stephanie is so attentive to every need and hair on my head I never have a moment's doubt that I will look my best when I walk out.
I'm just a dude so I can't speak for the much more intensive women's services, but if I'm paying $37 for a haircut and raving about it, you know it's good.
I found out about this place on http://salonapprentice... where one of their new stylists had a $20 special going on to build a clientele base. Called at 4:30pm, was in her chair by 5pm. Wonderful! She was so sweet...great to chat with, outgoing, funny, feels like your BFF is cutting your hair.
However, my micromanaging side reared it's ugly head when we had to recut my hair 3 times. I asked for a stacked bob...didn't think that it was that difficult or needed more explanation. Yes, she just graduated from Aveda so sure I'll cut her a little slack. In the end: we got a perfect bob.
I got a really funny feeling about the owner though. Every time he would pass by; he was really condescending to her right in front of me...is it because she's new? Is it because she is cutting my hair for $20 instead of $60? At one point he snottily asked her "Is that a client?" (referring to me)...really?! Save demeaning questions for the back room, buddy.
Stefanie has been cutting my hair for more than 10 years and I would follow her anywhere! I can always count on her for a fabulous cut and color with high lights that are exactly what I ask for. Perfect every time!
The atmosphere is fun and relaxing and the staff members go out of their way to be friendly and warm. I would (and have) recommend this salon to friends and strangers alike. You won't be let down!!
my first review, and i give it to my hair guy, the one and only, emmitt hodge. a good stylist is like a good boyfriend - hard to find and worth keeping. i was on the hunt several years ago. and since i've found emmitt, i haven't strayed - he's a keeper!
visiting his salon is an experience i look forward to each time. they use aveda products, which smell fantastic, and the environment is super relaxing.
i am blessed (or cursed) to have a head of unruly curly hair. emmitt works his magic every time, and i have grown to love my curls. (i attribute this to the fact that emmitt too has curly hair, so he knows my pain.) i walk - nay, STRUT - out of there, eager to flaunt my locks.
I really like Salon de Vive and the people who work there. It is a calm relaxed place with fair prices, and the people their know what they are talking about and actually listen to their clients. Stephanie cuts my hair and has always done an excellent job. I am rather picky and bounced around from place to place. I have had success at other places in Chicago, but this is the place I will get my hair cut from now on.
At last, they are listed on yelp I added my review on citysearch, salon de vive was formerly Accent salon on fullerton & clybourn. Always ask for Emmett, he's the best. He's honest and does a fab job on hair, color, I've used him for makeup as well. A true artist he is.
I love this salon! The stylists are so friendly - not even a hint of hipper-than-thou vibes here. Stefanie has been my stylist for a couple of years and she always does a wonderful job. She really takes in your ideas and offers her own based on your hair type and lifestyle. Aside from being really easygoing and fun to talk to, she's also great with color and styling. Viva Salon de Vive!
This place is great! Emmitt did my color and cut. He really knew his stuff. I told him what I wanted and from there he went over the many different options I had and explained how each color would effect my hair a couple weeks later. I really liked this b/c I like to know about up keep. Great to chat with and overall a very good experience!!
