Let's start at the beginning.
I went to Zoe's in the Fair Oaks Mall to my normal stylist, whom I love and who will remained un-named because I still love her (unfortunately she's either spot on or way off).  Anyway, I went in and explained quite clearly that I wanted a warm BROWN with a hint of red and for that hint of red to be brassy.  I came out with horrible purply red hair and seriously looked like Ronald McDonald's doppelganger.  I went into work the next day and a very helpful coworker (unlike our HR guy who followed me around all day singing "Strawberry Fields") took pity on me and recommended Ty from Salon Cielo.
When I walked in for my appointment he took one look at me and said "Wow. Someone dyed your hair purple."  I really appreciated the validation as my normal stylist had tried to convince me I was crazy and my Ronald McDonald hair was very natural looking.  Somehow Ty managed to take my horrible hair and turn it into a nice warm dark brown with a hint of auburn.  It's a little darker than I originally wanted, but coming from PURPLE, it's amazing.  He even checked out the cut my stylist had given me and deemed it good enough for me to leave the salon. :) Also, he gives awesome included massages.
I have two gripes which is why I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5.  First, my blow dry consisted of shoving me under those automatic dryers and sending me on my way and second, he forgot to put the protective gel/cream around my head so bits of my skin were dyed.  But other than that, I definitely recommend Ty.  He worked an absolute miracle on my head.  Oh! And the total cost was $65 for an all over dye and blow dry.

I have only been to Salon Cielo (twice) because they sell/work with Kerastase products and I love them. However, it is hard to believe that they offer such an unfriendly and poor service.
When us ladies go to a salon and pay in average $100 for a hair treatment, we expect smiley people willing to do all they can to pamper us and makes us happy.
The second time and may be the last time I will ever visit Salon Cielo, I was greeted with a fake smile, and after presenting a pomotional coupon that THEY sent me, (hey! A percentage off was not my fault) the fake smile disapeared and they treated me as a second priority. The girl who did my hair was on a terrible rush and in the end they hand you a tip envelope...
I paid it all, even the tip, so my coincience is good, but my cute lil butt will never be back again!

I have sort of a routine when it comes to hair cuts in that I don't get them often, maybe twice a year tops.  I've always gotten great hair cuts at Salon Cielo, however, everytime I call back to make an appointment with whomever cut my hair the last time I was there, I am typically told that they are no longer working there.  I end up taking my chances on someone new but then again I have never been really disappointed.  I guess it's partly my fault for not getting my hair done enough to build a relationship with stylist.

They offer a lot of services here although I have only ever gone for a hair cut.  I can, wholeheartedly recommend having the protein treatment done to your hair.  I had one before my last cut and I think I'm hooked.  My hair felt silky and was shinier than normal for weeks afterwards.  Their prices seem about right for a place that is definitely a step above Bubbles.  Perhaps when I grow up and decide to stop letting my hair grow obnoxiously long I will foster a relationship with a regular stylist.

I went to Van based on the reviews here.  Thank you fellow yelpers...great advice.  He gave a fantastic haircut and highlight.  The prices are more reasonable than other DC salons but you don't get less for your money.

Will be back.

I just wanted to add another vote for Ty at Salon Cielo.  I've been going to him for about 4 years after getting him luck-of-the-draw when he worked at Bubbles.

He has always done a really great job on my curl hair.  It's a rarity to find a stylist who knows how to cut curly hair and when you find one you should hang on to them!

He does my single process color and a cut for somewhere around $100 and threw in a few highlights for free at my prewedding haircut.

Sometimes he's running late but he's never rushed through an appointment with me to get to the next person.  I always get a consultation, a good shampoo and massage, a meticulous cut, and a great blow out.

I like this place.  My sister actually got her hair cut their today with Van.  Very nice guy, and very professional too.  Being that my sister thinks of me as her "image guru", WE had some pictures of what we had kind of wanted her hair to look like, but being that the sister is so indecisive, and that the four styles had very vague similarities, Van ended up letting us know what aspects of each style would be good for my sister.  In the end, she looked fabulous.  He combined each piece and made the style for her.

The only bad cent I want to put in is that the salon looked very cluttered.  We actually arrived before they opened and when I was looking in through the glass panes, the stations looked over stashed.  When we were actually in the salon, it looked as if there were too many shampoo/conditioner bottles at the shampoo bowls.  I'm aware that there's many types of shamp/cond. for many types of hair, but it looked a bit much... or maybe unorganized?

ANYWAY, the whole experience in general was good.  Extremely friendly staff, awesome cut.  Go Cielo!  ...Now, go clean house! haha.  I kid. :)

I dropped in one day and randomly got Isaias to cut my hair.  He did such a wonderful job, I've never gone any where else...it's been 3 years.

I LOVE Isiais!  After complimenting my friend on her perfect blonde highlights for like the thousandth time, she finally told me his name.  I'm usually terrified of trying new people around here, because they seem to make my hair too brassy, or too striped, or too dark.  Well this man actually gets what I mean when I say I'd like to look like blonde is my natural hair color.  I moved here from Los Angeles 6 years ago and FINALLY found someone who can work the same kind of magic that my girl there could.  And at a far better price!  His haircuts are great too - he understands that trim means TRIM, not "take off two or three inches".  I highly recommend!

I've had so many bad haircuts in my life that I've developed a weird anxiety about even getting a trim.  I went here on a whim about a year ago, and I've never been happier.  I've only gotten my hair cut by JASMINE.  She is wonderful.  She never rushes you.  She asks you what you want right away.  Sometimes, I'm not sure what I want, but she asks lots of questions to narrow it down.   After your hair is washed, she does a "run-through" to explain what she is going to do to your hair before she actually cuts it.  She also takes your hair texture into account. And she doesn't try to sell me anything...highlights, products, etc.  She actually compliments my hair color (I dye it myself).  I hope she sticks around!!!

*I have long hair and so does she, so I can't recommend her for short-haired folks.

This review is for the spa section only. As another reviewer said, Salon Cielo is indeed a glorified hair salon. Unfortunately, I did not heed this warning and went for a waxing there. "Look," I said to myself, "this place is cheaper than that shi-shi place in Friendship Heights. It'll be fiiiine."

I spent about 3 weeks not shaving and today, a few days later, I am still finding spots she missed even after I pointed out spots for her she missed to redo. Mood lighting is fine, but it isn't really good for business if it means you can't see anything to get the job done. I feel jipped a three-digit number and stupid for being cheap all at once. I also came out with something different than planned, but that is partly my own fault -partly. Never going back, even if you paid me.

I have been bouncing around salons in the two years since I moved to DC- Jouvance, Salon Nazeria, Kennys in Ballston- all over priced for what you actually get. I think the worst hair color of my life was at Kennys- alas, that is a separate review in itself.
I stumbled along Salon Cielo at Pentagon City over Labor Day weekend and had Isaiahs cut my hair- The price ($45) was reasonable, and it was a teriffic cut. Almost 8 weeks later I am still thrilled and its growing out so well. The salon also has a great waxer- Mona- She is super sweet, detailed oriented, and does awesome work

word of caution, my friends -- cielo is not really a salon; it's a slight upgrade from hair cuttery -- hair appointments are scheduled in 30 min increments!!  shouldn't a haircut take longer than sex?

the price may be right, but unless you luck out with someone great, 30 minutes is hardly enough time for a consultation, shampoo, haircut, and blowdry.

true enough, my cut is uneven.  usually, not a biggie, would just go in for a recut, right?  not here -- my stylist only works two days a week, so the salon booked me for a recut appointment two weeks post my haircut -- who wants to walk around with uneven hair for two weeks?  plus, now that i've lived with this haircut for a week, it's painfully clear that the stylist does not know asian hair.

and, this isn't my first bad cielo haircut.  I tried the dupont location years ago when it first opened to disastrous results -- i asked for a trim, and he chopped off about 8 inches.

obvs, i'm some sort of masochist for going back to cielo after the dupont experience.   sigh, i'd always imagined i'd be a dom.

(two stars because the stylist was nice )

I went and saw Vatil.  She is only there on Wednesday.  She told me she is usually at the Dupont Circle one.  At first, I was scared cause my hair is super curly, and I was going super short.  She did an amazing job.  She took extra time to really make sure that the hair cut was perfect.  Definitely amazing experience.

I got tired of paying a lot of money for haircuts that were Fine but Not Great, and decided to trying paying less money for the same thing and maybe get some shopping done at the same time. It all worked out. The salon has all the trappings of the upscale places (beverages offered, nice massage with shampoo). The staff was quite pleasant (snootiness factor zero). The stylist I got by the luck of the draw. He did a nice job and was open to feedback - you may want to give Ty a try.
