Oakley, CA
I had not been back to Salon Amour since last year (due to financial constraints) so it was a pleasure to return for a Thanksgiving blow-out and also enjoy their recently renovated facility. It's beautiful, bright and much larger than their original salon. (It's still located in the Terrace Shops plaza, but relocated to a more prominent location where it faces the street.)
The lovely LACIE did an incredible job blowing out my thick mass of curly hair -- no flat iron necessary. It was $55, and it lasted four full days, which was great. She did a nice scalp and hand massage and also took the time to give my hair a double shampoo, which it needed. I appreciated that Lacie wasn't chatty, though I do wish she smiled more. Still, I'll take serious over sloppy any day.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Walnut Creek, CA
I have been going to Salon Amour for four years now. I have been known to cheat on occasion, but for some reason I keep coming back. My main gals are Andrea for hair/color and Emma for brows and facials. I adore both ladies and highly recommend them. Professional, savvy and easy to talk to. The new space is refreshing, however I found the "color station" strange, especially with no mirror in front of you to accurately point out your "mane" issues (!) and no place for the handbag except on the lower shelf of the color table (what if something spills on it?). It is becomming more difficult to get an appointment with Andrea, so if you plan on coming back definitely pre-book. I enjoy the gratuity added feature and am a long-time Aveda product fan. Now with the more visible location, I won't hesitate to recommend this place to friends (hard to find before, parking is still a challenge). I believe it is one of the only Aveda concept salons in Walnut Creek...
Check it out, especially if you use/like Aveda -
Review from Susan B.
Walnut Creek, CA
I rarely veer from my main focus - food, but after three years of coming to Salon Amour, I figured I owed my fellow Yelpers a review. Important fact - I take my hair color very seriously. So seriously in fact that I will bypass food outings (the horror!) and other luxuries to make sure I budget for my hair appointments. This is no joke, you can ask my stylist.
So here's the low down, although not all Aveda products work well with my hair or skin, I am however a big fan of their color products. In fact, for a total of five years I've been having my hair colored at an Aveda salon. Since doing so, my hair health has improved tremendously. I started coming to Salon Amour when the other location I went to in Pleasanton was no longer convenient for me. Being the smart curly haired girl that I am, I first had to test out the hair straightening abilities of stylists at Salon Amour before I committed to letting them color my hair.
All I have to say is, if you are a stylist (mine is Andrea) that can beat my thick, coarse, curly hair into submission with a flat iron, you are my hair hero. Obviously Andrea won me over with her ninja hair straightening skills. Soon thereafter, I took the leap and had her do my color and I have never stopped since.
Here's what I love about Andrea - she is not only a sweetheart, but she is proactive about my hair and keeps tabs on changes she sees or if I'm due for a cut, etc. I like to keep my hair long and so I really only cut my hair two, maybe three times a year. She is also very honest with me when I ask her about trying something new. Many stylists (you know who they are) will sell you anything, even if they don't think the color or look will work for you - Andrea does not. I have on occasion come up with some wacky color ideas and she stops me in my tracks for my own good because she understands my hair and is honest about whether or not it will work well or not. The honesty is refreshing.
Also, just so you know, when Andrea has not been available I have tried three other stylists. Two did my hair color and all three straightened my hair with a flat iron. Granted no one is the master of my hair like Andrea, but I was very happy with both the color and the hair straightening. I love the consistency of quality in the salon. This makes a huge difference when you have last minute things that come up and your regular stylist is not available.
The bottom line is that I can go on and on about what I love about Salon Amour, but I'll spare you. The new location is a bit of a change for me as it's much larger and less cozy than the original spot, but at the same time, it's exciting that they continue to work on improving the salon experience for their clients. Oh and by the way, the gals at the front desk are wonderful as well. They are organized, friendly and very helpful each and every time I've been there. Bravo Salon Amour! -

Came here because a friend sent me a TravelZoo email with a half off coupon for a facial which I had been needing for quite a while, but can't really afford a full price facial.
Set up the appointment and received a very nice reminder/confirmation email of my appointment the next day. Was warmly greeted when I arrived and only had to wait for Emma a few minutes.
The salon is gorgeous inside, love the color scheme. The room I was taken to was very nicely appointed, a large bowl was filled with smooth rocks and warm water while we conversed, I had a nice question and answer period as I was asked about my skin concerns and problem areas.
I have to admit I've only had one other facial in my life, but this facial was the best I've had. I have sensitive skin and other issues, (age and rosacea), and my clinician made sure to pay attention to my concerns. I was totally surprised that the aroma I chose wasn't one of my favorites (Lavender), but the (Geranium) was very nice!
I did buy product but was not pressured to at all. I was also surprised that they do not accept tips. I look forward to returning. Thank you for one of the best experiences I've had in quite a while, I left feeling totally pampered, and calm, yet energized. -

Angie did an amazing job on my hair. I had not been to the salon in months and had a serious situation going on atop my head and Angie magically made it all better.
Her and I discussed what I liked and didn't like about my hair and she was able to enhance what I liked about it and fix the things I didn't like. She was not pushy at all about purchasing products but did suggest some to me. I bought a couple of them and they have done great things for my frizzy hair.
I highly recommend Angie. She was very attentive to what I was looking for, very professional, and tons of fun to chat with during my appointment :)
I will definitely be going back to her for my next hair appointment! -

I've been to this salon twice, and both times had a great haircut (once with Jen and once with an apprentice). However, since it's not in my budget to professionally maintain my hair as often as I should (and I like to experiment on my own), I haven't been back in awhile. Actually, I think it's moved locations since I've been. Since this is an Aveda salon, it smells amazing coming in here and what really made it a nice experience was the hand massage I received while having my hair shampooed. Minus one star for the parking lot--it's kind of a pain during lunch and rush hour.

Review from Eileen H.
Finding a good salon is such a difficult process. So difficult that for the nine years I lived in San Francisco, I never had 'the one' nailed down. I'm not kidding when I say I probably tried out twenty different salons and/or stylists.
So when I moved to Concord, I was afraid it would take me forever to find a salon I loved. Not so. I found it on the second try!
I found Salonamour here on yelp and decided to try it out based on the positive reviews. I'm so happy that I did, because I'm in love with this place! It's small, which is a definite plus, and the atmosphere is totally relaxing. The second you walk in you're immediately calmer thanks to the scent of the Aveda products they use.
I've been to Darlene twice, and both times she's done an exceptional job cutting my hair. She's very easy to talk to, and she really listened to what I wanted. She cut my layers better than anyone has in a long time. I haven't had a haircut in over six months but you can't tell because her last cut has grown in beautifully. I'm trying to grow my hair out long, but when I'm ready for a cut or trim, I'm definitely going back to Darlene. -

Have been trying to find a new salon and it took a long time to find this place. I have lived in WC for decades but never heard of this salon. So thanks to all you yelpers.
Lacie is a great stylist - solid consulting prior to doing anything, good ideas, great execution.
The salon has some wonderful practices: head and hand massage, no tipping, and no rushing. I was watching someone get a major-change haircut and that stylist was just as good as Lacie.
They are moving to a bigger space -same shopping center- in November so I look forward to seeing that. Should also give them more visibility.
Overall, I recommend! -

Walnut Creek, CA
This is a cute little place tucked away in WC, great service, and decent pricing. I went here because of a deal I got for half price on color service, and the stylist I had was sweet and wanted to make sure she did what I wanted. She did ask a lot of questions about my hair and what products I was using before the service, which I found a bit annoying but I guess she's trying to do her job.
Overall, I'm not sure if I would go back but I would recommend this place to friends. -

I love this salon for many reasons! Number one, Darlene does a fantastic job all around from trimming my hair to coloring it. Every time I come to this salon, it is so peaceful and pleasant. I am always greeted with a smile from the front desk personal and offered something to drink (if they offered wine, I would give 6 stars!!). ;) The second reason why I love this salon is their product: Aveda. My hair is so shiny and strong after a color and wash with their products. I also love the smell and always leave with some type of Aveda product: shampoo, conditioner, hairspray...
When you call to make an appointment, I definitely recommend making it with Darlene. She is very sweet and efficient and I know you won't be disappointed. -

Second time around at Salon Amour, picked a 7pm appointment with Amanda D. from their LMA list. It was time to do major surgery on my mane and Amanda D. did an awesome job! I've had long hair since I was in high school and honestly, it was time to do something drastically different. Amanda and I talked options for a good length of time before she started snipping handfulls of hair out. Everyone told me not to get my hair cut, but everyone likes the new doo! Thanks to Amanda D!!!

I went to Lacy last night for the first time for a cut and it was fantastic. She was very nice, very informative, and listened and did exactly what I wanted. I loved the fun extras too-like the scalp massage with the oils and the hand massage. Those things really add to the experience. When I left my hair was SO soft and the fact that it looked good after I did my hair this morning means she did a very good cut job! Also, I like how she didn't push their products, just told me about what she was using and how it benefits my hair.

I have used salon amour many times now for hair cuts and eyebrow waxes. Emma is their esthetician and she is great- listens to what I want done, and she's nice. She has me in and out quickly, too. I've had several haircuts there with three different stylists and all were good. It is a no-tip salon and prices are reasonable.
Hair services include a scalp and hands/arms massage. FYI, they use Aveda products which are gentle and smell great. In addition to hair treatments and waxing, they also offer facials and full massages. -

I get my brows and lip waxed on a regular basis and normally always go to the same person.
I decided to try this place out bc I LOVE Aveda.
I checked out Amours website and saw an experienced Esthetician so I made an appt thinking it would be with her. When I arrived I was greeted with a friendly smile. BUT my appt was not with the person pictured on the site as the ONLY Esthetician. The girl that helped me was very nice BUT it took her all of 10 min to do both my brows and lip. I could tell she was new and understand that she has to learn somewhere.
I will say my brows aren't horrible but they aren't great either. my lip on the other hand looks like NOTHING was removed at ALL. After further inspection I will NOT be going back.
AND the no tipping thing??? Never heard of such a thing!! Maybe the staff would spend more time and do a better job if there was a tip at the end of the job! I'd rather tip and get a GREAT service.
I pay the same price in the city and get a WAY better service. -

I just had an appointment today with Angie and she did a great job on my previously destroyed hair! My hair has been damaged from over-processing and botched haircuts in the past. It is about chin length and had soo many split ends and about 2-3 inches of hair that was torched from too many dye jobs. I needed her to trim the dead hair off the ends, fix my layering that a previous friend tried to do, and keep as much length as possible (cause i'm tryin to grow it out). She did it all and obviously listened to my wishes! I'm so happy my hair is still girly looking (most places just chop everything off and leave you looking like a boy) and finally healthy, it feels like MY hair again! I love her and hope i can go back again soon :) you won't be disappointed!

Review from Informed C.
San Francisco, CA
This place rocks!! After looking at many of the hair salons ratings on yelp, I narrowed it down to 3 possibilites. All had a feel of being a higher end salon. One salon I would need to take out a second Mortgage to afford. The second salon was too pretentious. It seemed as though the receptionist thought that anyone calling to see how much a haircut cost was just too much of a bother, and " we could figure that out later". I am a guy. Not a whole lot of hair going on. I wanted some color to cover a little of the grey and a hair cut. Salon Amour got it right from the start.
They were friendly. A lady took by coat and my umbrella; she brought me a nice hot cup of tea. Perfect as it was cold and rainy outside. I was late for my appointment. No one mentioned that. My stylist Chelsea was friendly and sort of consulted me on what I wanted to do with my hair. I told her I would like a hair cut like Gary Barlow, which very few people in America have ever heard of...So she went to computer an printed out his picture so we could look at it together. A very nice touch.
In addition to cut and color my hair like GB's, she gave me a scalp massage and hand message. Gave some grooming tips: dont wash your hair with a bar of soap. On the way out, I was brought my coat and umbrella and paid for my visit. I was going to leave a tip but they have a policy of no tips...period. If you mention yelp, you get a discount and no feeling that you must leave a tip. I like leaving tips, but I got over it quickly.
I would recommend this place to anyone. BTW, it is in downtown Walnut Creek, so I was armed with a pocket full of quarters, this Salon has free parking. Nice! -

This salon is fabulous. My facial was so relaxing and the aromas from the oils and Aveda products left my face feeling and looking it's best. Then I got a parial foil from Lacie, she was very knowledgable and did a nice job blending the color from my previous highlight. While my hair was processing I received a hand massage and ring cleaning. Lovely help at the front desk and I received 20% off from checking in on Yelp! I also was told they are a tip free salon so I didn't have to do any math in my head when I got the bill. I love this place!

Review from Alena K.
Antioch, CA
I'm afraid of hair salons, just like dental offices. I do not trust a person who does something with my hair.
A time came when I realized that my hair needed some radical remedy and help. It's been a couple (or more) of years since my last real (not trimming) haircut. After careful search on the internet and reading reviews I decided to try out this salon. Besides, I am a little familiar with Aveda products and I wanted to try some more of them.
And there I was. Sitting in a comfy chair, looking at Andrea in a mirror and listening to her comments on my gibberish explanation "My hair: why, how...i don't know ". She really did listen to me (like they promise on the web-site), was friendly and attentive, and did a great job with the hair cut!! Through the course of the hair service she was naming the products used and explaining how does it work for my hair. I was glad I chose her, great stylist!!
I liked how smartly the business is organized. You feel welcomed, sipping on Aveda tea, then even more welcomed having a head and hand massage. Really a special experience!!!
Thanks so much, Andrea! Hope to see u in a while and find good news about the baby! :) -

I have serious commitment issues when it comes to a stylist. I was ready for big change but didn't really have a salon or stylist that I could trust. A friend of mine mentioned that there was an Aveda salon in Walnut Creek. I was sure she meant Leeza that closed awhile back. So I went online and found Salon Amour.
I called to schedule a cut & color for that week and was able to get an evening appointment but only for a cut. About four hours later, I get a call back saying that Gabriel had a cancellation and he could now do color. I was shocked that receptionist was thoughtful enough to call me back.
I went in with an idea and pictures and still we talked for 10-15 about the cut & color that I wanted. Gabriel explained how the hair would frame my face and what length would be best. When it came to color, he was very real about what type of maintenance I was willing to do. Then the moment that shocked me beyond all belief: before touching my hair with color or scissors, he showed me the price of the cut & color!!!! I almost wept for joy. I had an issue with a stylist that was always charging different prices, so this meant the world to me.
While the color was setting, I got an amazing hand massage. Also the scalp massage while washing was pretty nice too. The overall cut and color were so great. I have been getting compliments nonstop, it's easy to do, and most importantly, I absolutely love it.
They even called to a week later to check in. It was worth every penny. -
Review from Jenni D.
I think it's official, I finally found a stylist that loves my curls (WAY MORE) than I do.
I walked in on a Thursday for an impromptu discussion with someone at the front of the salon, because I was interested in hearing about their approach to styling. I've been going to the same stylist since 2006, but I felt that it was time for a change since I was traveling to Sacramento for every cut and color in the past few years. I was able to schedule with Jennifer Farrell at Salonamour for a next day appointment because she had a cancellation.
Jennifer was really sweet and attentive. I love that Aveda concept salons include a certain amount of care and attention toward their clients. Jennifer smartly talked me out of chopping my Medusa mane off, and she convinced me to go with a more flattering do.
I'm so happy with the results, and my hair is loving the Aveda products. I can't wait to go back in a few months! -
Review from Danielle R.

If I could make out with anyone other than my husband it would have to be Cindy Lou! I've been having a hair affair with Cindy at Salon Amour now for 5 years. The following is truth:
Sent to Salon Amour on a recommendation from my favorite aunt, I went there with high expectations with skeptical luggage in tow, of course. ::shaking head, pressed lips::
My hair is thick. My hair is curly. My hair grows like a weed (such an uncreative metaphor, but it's fitting for this situation, so oh well!). My track record filled with ups and downs of hair successes and failures, I was in desperate need for a good cut, with an under $100 price tag and to follow (hopefully) was the peace of mind that I could potentially call Salon Amour home (to all my future hair cutting babies).
What did I get that fateful day I stepped into the ylang-ylang, lavender scented Aveda salon? I got nothing less than "sheer" perfection (haha!). The appointment went a little like this:
- Introductions
(Hi, I'm Danielle! I need a good haircut... NOW!)
- Hair Story
(What do I want for my hair, what's my daily routine like?, etc.)
-Head Massage
(Jojoba oil and what feels like an eternity of massaging wonder.)
-Shampoo & Condition
(Aveda's Brilliant line removes build-up and adds moisture to my lackluster curls.)
-Hand Massage
(While my hair and scalp are getting the VIP, my arms and hands get the same by the Salon's assistant.)
-Hair cut
(Snip, cut, etc. - Cindy Lou makes sure to cut my hair so that way when it starts to grow out it's still manageable, cute, and under control.)
-Condition, Sculpt, Blow Dry
(Self explanatory.)
Cindy Lou is a genius. Yes, she is. She knows hair, she believes in her product and she's way cool! I will travel to the end of the earth for a haircut from her! (Oh wait, I did that already... from New Zealand to Walnut Creek - just for a haircut! Uh-huh, I did actually do this, flew from one hemisphere to the next for a haircut. We'll save that for another Yelp session.)Listed in: Danielle's Maintenance

I've been going here for a few years now. I started with Gabriel but sadly he left about a year ago and I'm now with Mindy. I was hooked on this place after my first visit...the visit starts off with a conversation about what you want with your hair & the stylist talks you through everything. Then you get the scalp massage, head over to get your hair washed with more scalp massaging AND a hand massage. They even clean your jewlery for you. Mindy is great, she's always got great ideas for my hair (which is good since I never know what I want).
Besides selling the Aveda products, they also sell the Aveda makeup. Mindy happens to be the make-up artist and will do your makeup for you if you ask.
They also have a massage room but I haven't used it so I can't review that part. They are open late during the week but I've always gone on Saturdays, Mindy never seems to be running late so I never have to wait! It is a bit on the pricey side for a haircut (about $65 plus tip) but I come out feeling great! -

Just an update, I had to go back to show them how my hair was messed up. The stylist I met with agreed the cut was done improperly and offered to trim it up and fix it. I allowed her to do this but it resulted in my hair being cut shorter, which was not what I wanted.
As far as the color, she wanted me to go back to the girl who messed it up and give her a chance to fix it. Um, I think not... So she offered to have someone else fix. They would only refund my haircut money. At this point, I am so afraid they will mess it up further, I have decided to leave it alone. Now I get to let it grow back, pay someone else to fix the color, and I am still out over $100. What a mess.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I have been going to Salonamour since 2003 to get my hair done. Its great. I know Susan trains everyone before they are allowed to even touch a clients head. Right now Jenn Lam is rocking my hair style. I have to say, she is awesome.
As for Salernitana B. who is talking about about the esthetician, they are not talking about Brittny, I don't even think she was there at the time. Anyone who goes to the salon is constantly asked if everything is OK and a detailed consultation happens before the service is performed. Sounds to me like someone just wanted to get on-line and be a cry baby. Next time speak up, everyone is super cool and would have either fixed it or given your money back. -

I got great facial from Emma. She was very sweet and welcoming. I got the Botanical Peel Facial and I do wish that it had included extractions, but it did offer a lot of exfoliation. The place is a little hard to find and the spa room is a little cramped, but over all, friendly people and a very good facial.

Sounds like Salernitana B. had such an awful experience! Mine was the exact opposite.
First - I'd like to point out that the lady is right, don't try to park in their lot, it's too tiny. There is, however, a wealth of covered parking right across the street - so don't sweat it.
Second - Brittny did an amazing eyebrow wax for me and my facial was so relaxing, I'm definitely coming back regularly to see her. She was really great about explaining the whole process and helping me pick out products to correct trouble spots. My skin has never looked better.
Third - I was seen right away and the customer service by all employees was great. I even had a follow up call about a week after my appointment to see how I was doing with my products and the after effects of my facial/wax. I love that!
I've been to the Aveda salon in SF but love this one so much more. -

Review from Callie T.
Las Vegas, NV
I checked out Yelp before booking my appointment, and was not dissapointed. First of all, EVERYONE knows that it's IMPOSSIBLE to find a good stylist when you need one. I just moved to the area, and after a DISASTER at another salon, I came here for a fix.
At first it looks a little sketch for Walnut Creek. But that's ONLY the outside of the building. The second you step foot in the door, you just feel relaxed.
My stylist was Amada, and she was great. She was very attentive, and really cared about what I was looking for. She understood everything, and even wrote everything down in case I was going to come back. She gave a great hand massage, and the whole experience was relaxing, comforting, and I came out with a great cut, and color.
The ONE downfall (and why they dont get 5-stars) is the fact that I have unruly, curly hair. I usually blow dry straight, and then use a straightener. She didnt have time, so she was going to style it curly. I dont think she has done too many clients with curly hair because I came out with WAY too much product in my hair. It was fine, but next time I will just make an appointment and make sure she has time to style it right. Who wants to walk out of salon with less than perfect hair?
But overall, Amanda was young, stylish, and knew what she was doing. I will be back. -

Andrea is absolutely the best stylist I've ever had. She's willing to take risks but always makes sure you are okay with it. She has thick hair just like me so she knows how to work with my big hair.
She does excellent color too! We've been building a wonderful color style into my hair and I don't dare buy the store bought stuff...I'd rather give up Starbucks for a month to make sure I get Andrea to do my hair.
The staff is very knowledgable and I feel you could go to just about anyone there and feel good. They've all trained under Susan Falcon who is quite genius.
Plus, being an Aveda salon it smells heavenly. Make sure to call in advance to get your appointment. Another stylist I really like there is Jen Lamm. -

I had to think long and hard about whether to reveal my secret hair rockstar to the world. Do I really want people to know that Mary Braswell at Salon Amour is the best colorist and stylist on this planet?!? If people knew how phenomenally awesome she is, I may NEVER get an appointment with her again ... nope, not gonna risk it.
Oh okay ... after an exhaustive search at some of the highest priced salons in the east bay, I have spent the past EIGHT years with Mary ... that's longer than my marriage!
We have been from blonde to purple, conservative to radical and everything in between! I LOVE this woman! Every friend I have referred to her has become a loyal client ... they even travel from the city just to get a haircut! Mary is gold, and if she ever stops doing hair then I'm shaving my head bald ... period. -

I've been going to Salon Amour for years to get my haircuts, I think they're great! I almost never have to wait, even if I show up early. Everyone who works there is so nice and friendly. The stylists that I've had have all been excellent and they do a great job every time.
@ Salernitana B., they have a satisfaction guarantee, if you weren't happy you should have said something. As with any place you go some of the staff is better at what they do than others. I wouldn't say that I've had anyone I didn't like, I just like some more than others. -

Review from Tanya G.
Alameda, CA
After my horrible haircut at Salon One in Alameda (read my review) and the repair work done by Annika at We Are Hair, I had an appointment with Angie at Salon Amour for coloring. I found them on Yelp and wanted to try the Aveda line. I am so happy with my hair color, done by Angie. What a professional! I love it so much that I am going back in 6 weeks so she can further fix the haircut and touch up the gorgeous color she gave me. Aveda products are all natural and they smell so good! The whole salon smells wonderful and every one of the staff is warm and friendly. They give a great shampoo and even a hand massage while you are processing. Prices are good and there's no tipping. They ask what you want, and really listen. Angie even asked if she could keep the photo I brought in to put into my "file" for next time. Eureka, I have found my go-to salon and will never go anywhere else. They blow-dry your hair, unlike Phoenix salon, and don't push their products. They gave me a 20% discount of a facial for next time, so I think I'll try that! I would highly recommend this little gem!

I really love this place. I miss it. I had to stop going because they raised their rates to the point where it was no longer affordable...sad end to a ten year relationship. :-(

This is a wonderful salon- I love the atmosphere and every one of the stylists are amazing!
I would recommend this to anyone- especially anyone knowledgeable about hair and chemicals in products.
This is the purest line out there, in my opinion!
The BEST product and BEST salon.
Everyone is very kind, you get a fruit & nut snack as well as tea, a hand massage & the best haircut and color/highlight I have ever received.
I have now been going here for 2 years and I am more delighted every time. -

Salon Amour is the most professional, comfortable, nurturing salon I've experienced in my life. First of all the Aveda products are the best, so good for your skin and hair and besides, they smell so good. Their staff is top of the line. My personal hair person is Cindy Lou and I would unequivocally recommend her to anyone. She cuts and colors my hair in a way that is so special, I get so many compliments, and I love my hair! I also highly recommend Laura for manicures and pedicures. She is great and I have never had such a nurturing, loving experience getting my nails done. Pampering reigns supreme at Salon Amour! You deserve to take yourself to Salon Amour for your hair, nails, body (massage), face (aesthetician) ... all just for you! Lakshmi Kerner
