I had my hair done at Salon Alta after some soul searching.
You see, I like my 'other' stylist a lot but she is a hassle to get to logistics-wise. (out of the city)
Salon Alta in my neighborhood and Cirrus is just a pleasure to be around.
I told myself I would be doing myself a disservice not to try her out.
So-- let's get to hair: mine looks great!
I asked Cirrus to use her artistic license since I was fresh out of ideas and I ended up with party-worthy blonde hair.
The color is fantastic and hasn't faded too dramatically over the last 2 months. And the cut goes well with both straight & curly styles.
I tend to go back & forth and wear my hair curly the majority of the time so a versatile cut is quite important.
I trust her implicitly to do a great job.

I'm a convert!
Almost 5 months after my first trip to Salon Alta, it was time to go again. Another great color and great cut but this also is a comment on the longevity of the first cut. It was only a few weeks ago when I realized it's about time for a new cut and color to freshen up what was done months before.
Cirrus also gave me tips to make my color last even longer. At previous salons, this is usually where the sales pressure comes in but Cirrus gave me a few shampoo/conditioner recommendations and it wasn't until I asked if they carried those at the salon did she mention selling them to me. I love that because it's about my hair and keeping me looking my best, not about making a sale.
Totally recommend you try Salon Alta. Cirrus is the best!

Kristina Goett is a Saint!!!
She can fix and do anything!! I walked in with dry, brittle, fried hair and walked out with shiny, blonde, healthy locks. And my hair continued to grow and restore because of her wonderful and knowledgeable tips. I am forever grateful for Kristina and highly recommend her to anyone. She is really a pro!
Just letting fellow yelpers know, round two was also a success. I'm hooked!

Ok, so this review has been looonnnggg overdue!
I found Salon Alta online through Yelp (like many of you fine people), and chose it initially out of convenience as it is located a block away from my apartment. I was pleasantly surprised with not only the clean, cute atmosphere of the shop, but with the offering up of sangria upon my arrival. What more could a girl ask for after a hard day at work?!
After two visits now with Kristina, my hair has never felt or looked healthier. I have short wavy hair that I am in the process of growing out, and anyone who is trying to grow their hair out is aware of how painful the process of trimming can be when you don't want to let go of any length. Kristina was able to "tidy" up my 'do, while still keeping what length I do have...a cute, chic shoulder-length style?? I never thought it would be possible! I also added some highlights and color, which I hadn't done for years, and was amazed by the depth it added to the entire look of the cut. Kristina's use of color was just what I had asked for; a noticeable but natural punch to my already-existing color. Thank you so much Kristina for actually giving me what I asked for, and not taking "artistic liberties" (read: scary zebra striping) with my precious locks.
I am so pleased to finally have found a salon to call home! :)
I consider a trip to a new hairstylist akin to a first date. You're nervous, you're excited, a little bit sweaty, and hoping to God that when it's over, you can still look at yourself in the mirror. And you won't need to pretend that you'll see the person again when really, you hope to never cross paths again.
My fears are now the past. Kristina did a spectacular job cutting my hair. I walked in with hair so long that it was almost touching my butt. I said I wasn't sure what I wanted and I didn't know what cut was best for my face shape. Kristina recommended shortening it, but keeping it long and layered. It all sounds simple, and I've had this type of cut before, but no one has made it look as good as Kristina did. She is truly an artist. I love, love, love my new haircut. I cannot wait to return for our "second date." Thanks Kristina!
Kristina G. has been cutting my hair for about 3 years now. First in the lower Haight, and now at Salon Alta. Kristina gives the most consistent and natural looking men's scissor haircut that I have ever received. I typically have my hair scissor cut neat and short, and it doesn't look like someone took clippers to it after she's done. Some details:
(1) She is a perfectionist and extremely detail orientated. For example, after the cut, she will style your hair then perform any recutting as necessary. Most stylists just slop some goo in and ask for your credit card.
(2) She has a good memory, I never have to tell her how to cut my hair.
(3) Her cuts grow in extremely well. Five weeks later my hair will still look great, so if I delay an appointment it's not a huge deal.
(4) She is very personable.
To put this in perspective, this review is coming from a fairly anal attorney. Although Salon Alta is farther from my house than her old salon, parking is plentiful (much better than the LH). So if you are looking for a sharp men's haircut in the GQ style, look no further.
Cirrus, I would follow you anywhere.
And follow her I have. For the past 10 years almost. From Maire Rua on Haight Street to On Mars on Fillmore and now, to her new digs at her very own place at Salon Alta.
Salon Alta is a breath of fresh air. The recently remodeled interior is modern in style but welcoming and not overdone or stuffy. It's a small place with only three stylist chairs. The vibe is cool and laid back, just like Cirrus, who greets you with a little cup of wine and a lot of friendly chatter.
I could go on about the quality of her cuts, color, and general hair-spertise but I think it sums it up well to say that she is the only one I trust to tame my thicket of frizz and curls. She does a terrific job. I've referred many of my friends to Cirrus, and I know of none that I have referred who haven't become converts.
Salon Alta is a little secret haven where you walk in all schlubby and gross and a couple hours later you emerge looking fine. As in, F-I-N-E, fine. So if you book an appointment with Cirrus, make sure you have your drinks date lined up for that evening, because you will want the world to check you out with your party hair.
I love Cirrus!
I've been meaning to write this since my last Salon Alta visit...
A little sangria while waiting, a hair stylist who is nice to talk to but doesn't make you feel like you HAVE to chit chat the whole time, a relaxing setting, and most importantly, a great haircut.
If you're looking to find a new hair stylist/salon, I highly recommend Kristina at Salon Alta. Even if you're not quite sure what kind of haircut you're looking for, Kristina is great at coming up with something new, and within one's comfort zone (we all know that trying a new hairstyle can make one a bit nervous).
And I love that regular customers can get a free bang trim, because sometimes that's all you need, right? But even with bangs, Kristina has managed to give me three different styles, and all of them turned out great. When I first got bangs, I thought I was going to be pretty limited as far as hairstyle variety, but so far I've had something new each time, and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

I feel a bit dirty about writing this review, but I think we all hit that point where we have to cheat on a stylist and eventually find another one.
Kristina was recommended to me by another yelper to fix my dark and crazy brightly red-colored hair to help me take it blonde again. I was NOT led astray!
My first appointment was when Kristina fixed my color. She took her time and was meticulous about getting the balance of color right. She even shared some of her lunch with me when I started to feel a bit hungry! What a sweet heart!
I left with a beautiful new color and was feeling great!
Fast forward to my next appointment with Kristina and I was again not disappointed! This woman is serious about getting my hair to look amazing. She is really intuitive and just "gets it" about how I want the color to be.
When it came to the cut, I barely said a thing- just keep the length and lighten it up. My hair gets REALLY heavy if it's not layered enough. I think she was like an artist with those scissors. She cut angles into my hair like I've never seen before. I love when a stylist just knows what to do to make you look great and doesn't need too much direction- she's the pro! I'd rather let her do her job :)
I left the salon feeling amazing and when I arrived to dinner with my friends, they were all commenting on how awesome it looked. "You look like a model!" Jesus christ Kristina better not leave SF anytime soon. I think I'd cry.
I am in love with my hair. Thank you Kristina. I will be back :)
(Note: I have found street parking easily both times I have gone- once on a Saturday and once on a Friday evening.)
I would like to say that Kristina is terrible, so don't go to her and take up all her time slots for the next 5 years, but I just can't.
Kristina is the best. Her cuts and color leave me feeling like a supermodel. Her personality is friendly, relaxed, and non-pretentious. It's okay if you can't come up with something interesting in your life to talk about, because there's no pressure. She's a perfectionist and won't let you leave until your hair is perfect.
Have I mentioned that her cuts and color are astounding? Especially color. Really, just astounding.
I recently moved here from Australia and was looking for a talented hairdresser who knows how to cut and colour . My hairdresser back home was voted hairdresser of the year several times and finding someone of similar quality was proving to be a hassle- until a friend recommended Kristina. I have followed her from her previous salon across town.
My first requirement is a hairdresser who knows how to "do" a clean blonde. Kristina's colouring is not only meticulous but is also bright and last forever. i've never had an issue with my hair throwing gold or brassy undertones. She also takes the time to make sure it is perfect.
My second requirement is a cut that lasts- ie as your hair grows, the cut maintains it's structure and shape. Kristina's cuts do exactly this. I get asked frequently if I've had a haircut- when all I've done is wash and blow dry.
Finally, I wanted someone who can give input to what is happening on the "hair scene", and advice or ideas on what will suit my hair. Im constantly wanting something edgy but maintainable. Kristina translates what I describe into a cut and has provided me with excellent ideas every time I go.
She has cut my hair several times now, and i am always over the moon with how it turns out.
If youre new to the city and am looking for a good hairdresser who is consistent, look no further.
** for any aussies living in SF- kristina follows a lot of the european trends- so you wont have to suffer with bad hair whilst you are here!!!
Kristina is fabulous!! Like many of her clients, I have been following her around for the last three years. Once I flew all the way to New York just to have Kristina cut my hair! True story. Okay, maybe I was there on business, but I did track her down during her brief departure from SF and walked away a new woman, as always!
No question about it, Kristina is a perfectionist when it comes to styling and color, she'll take her time and make sure you look amazing when you leave!
Bonus points to Cirrus for opening this great little salon and bringing Kristina to the neighborhood!

Cirrus is truly one of the best hair stylists in San Francisco. I should know, my mom was a great hair stylist for years and nobody compares to the personal attention, great technique as well as the way she really listens and delivers a fun fresh cut & color.

I live in Sacramento and I drive to San Francisco just to get my hair done by Cirrus. Yes, she is my sister, but she has this amazing cutting style. She always gives me the "sassy, sexy mom haircut" instead of the "boring, frumpy mom haircut." Its nice to have a stylist as a sister. So thanks Sis, you are the BEST.
I've been going to Cirrus for almost 5 years and will follow her wherever she goes. Not only are her cuts stylish but they are so technically amazing that they grow in well. This is important as I'm pretty lazy about going back for follow up haircuts. I can describe my mood and what I'm looking for with words like 'edgy' or 'pretty' or 'fun' to Cirrus and somehow she knows what I'm looking for better than I do.

The girl with magic hands!
Cirrus has time and time again sent me home feeling like my inner VIXEN. The absolute best cut and color for your your dime in SF. Her brand new digs in the NOPA area gives that hip luxury feel to your salon visit. It's a MUST to check out.
I am both vain and lazy, a difficult combination for a stylist. I have wavy hair and a few strange cowlicks that mean what works for my hair when it's an inch long doesn't work when it's grown out for a few weeks.
That is, until Cirrus started cutting my hair. She listened when I said I don't want to do anything but wash and dry my hair, with perhaps some pomade when the locks are getting shaggy. I can now easily go 8 weeks between haircuts and every day my hair looks great with no fuss. My wife can ruffle her fingers through it all she wants and all it takes is a bit of smoothing to bring back a coiffed professional look. Cirrus is also one of the few stylists I've had where I enjoy the conversation instead of dreading the forced camaraderie.
I followed Cirrus from her old salon to her new digs and it's a definite improvement. So much light and space, a very different feel from most cramped or over-perfumed salons. I've always had a good cut and I've always had a pleasant time.
I've tried the rest and now I have found the best! Well Actually I found Cirrus 5 years ago and recently came back to her. She is ... plain and simple... really good at what she does. I have alot of hair stylist friends who do good hair and my hair looks good..but a cut from Cirrus and it looks great! Her cuts always grow out so nicely, she does "pretty" hair and who doesn't want pretty? I used to show her pictures of what I wanted and would walk out with that exact look...but recently I just gave her a few ideas of what I was wanting, not sure if they would work together and totally walked out with a super sassy cut! instant style that doesn't require alot of work/fussing over...which by the way I have ALOT of thick hair that generally has a mind of its own. I'm glad to have Cirrus back in my life and so is my hair!
kristina does amazing things with hair color. brilliant really. ive followed her for like four years now, and i've referred probably a dozen friends. now that is some serious loyalty. i'm kind of a kristina groupie. she makes my hair just so pretty.
i've referred my friends including Emily T. whose long blond hair will make your knees week.... and another friend who got a short pixie adorable cut she can't stop gushing about.
she's also been cutting my boyfriends hair, who thanks to kirstina no longer looks like he is trying to join the military.
she is so detail oriented and wants to get it right...when i tell her what i want she "gets it" you get it??
Kristina, Kristina, Kristina...what can I say? She's a master at blonde. At perfect, vibrant, shimmering, gorgeous blonde. She makes my hair so pretty, people stop me on the street. (seriously) I think she might be a bit of a perfectionist, which is a VERY good thing in your hair stylist. My cut is perfect, my color is EPIC.
Everyone on this page has pretty much covered it. Cirrus is awesome. I had my "first real haircut" in about 10 years as well, and well, Cirrus is incredibly friendly, fun, helpful, personable, and of course, does incredible work. That about covers it all. Awesome place!
Why are there only 5 stars on the rating scale??? Cirrus and Salon Alta deserve 10+. She is one super star, dynomite, amazing stylist. From start to finish she oozes with style, professionalism, and attention to detail. Cirrus is hip, current, in touch with what is hot- and freely gives that to her clients, making them the same! She makes you feel like the most important person in the world when you are with her. You will never go wrong trusting those gentle hands with your dew. Seriously, Cirrus is the BEST!
Cirrus is absolutely the BEST! I moved to the city a while ago and have had horrible experience after horrible experience trying to replace my stylist of 3 years. I am not very good at the current styles so I never really have a great idea what would look best on me and every time I have left Cirrus I have been completely satisfied! I just had the Brazilian Blowout and it is FABULOUS!!! I am always very impressed with Cirrus and I always have such a blast while I am there. The salon is gorgeous and it's always nice to relax with a glass of wine! I highly recommend Cirrus and won't go anywhere else!
I have been going to Cirrus for color/cut and she is by far the best colorist and stylist in town. I am always satisfied after I leave the salon. I will follow Cirrus wherever she goes, from On Mars to Salon Alta. Salon Alta is a gorgeous open space with an upstairs hang-out. You also get wine, sangria or champagne served while you are getting your hair done!
I don't know what's better, Cirrus's hot haircuts or clever conversation? I'd give 5 stars for both! She gets me in and out on time and looking good. Wouldn't it be nice if the whole world worked like Salon Alta?
I feel very confident in saying that Cirrus is one of the best hair stylists I have ever met. Not only does she do great hair, but she has gone and turned her very own Salon Alta into a serene oasis for anyone to enjoy.

Great salon, great location, easy parking, reasonable prices, and the best hair stylist in san francisco. I have been going to cirrus for 5 plus years and I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair. She does an amazing job and I always receive compliments as soon as I leave the salon. If I moved away from san francisco, I would fly back just to have my hair done by cirrus. I love her and her work. She is highly recommended by me.
cirrus is the best. what a pleasure and pleasant suprise this was. given that this was to be my first "real" haircut in years, i was a bit shaky about the idea. ya know, i'm used to sitting in those red firetrucks at the barbershop. anywho... she really knows her stuff and offers awesome relationship/life advice in between each scissor snip. go see her!

Yet another great cut and color from Cirrus. She is the genius of curls, and her talent and skills are complemented with great service. I love the new salon. It's comfortable, relaxing, and beautiful. I don't think I can ever allow anyone else to cut my hair since Cirrus proved to me that curly girls don't have to leave a salon in tears.
