I had an excellent experience at Salon 212.  I do a lot of Salon shopping, because I move often and like to try to find a go-to stylist in my neighborhood.  After some research online, I'd seen a few positive reviews for Jennifer (formerly of Pagani and Mac Daddy) and decided I wanted to try her out.  I called Salon 212 on Thursday night for a Saturday evening appointment and they were able to fit me in.  The girl who did my brow wax (Danielle?) was very friendly and did a nice job.  Jennifer was every bit as good as the online reviews I'd read.  I'm growing my hair out and she managed to give it shape without making it too short (a common problem I've had with various stylist since beginning to grow it out) and even her blow dry was cuter, and more involved, than most blow-dry styles I've gotten with long hair.  Additionally, she's very friendly and easy to talk to (which, as anyone who frequents different salons knows, is hard to find!).  I'm definitely going to go back.

Also, I've never seen the old 212 space, but the new one is really nice.

Ive only been there 2 times and both were very interesting expiriences.  The first time I went I made an appointment for a manicure with tips and when I got there the lady told me she didn't have time to give me tips and gave me some terrible bootleg french mani.
Went there again for a brazillian and was treated rudly by the recpetionist.  The only saving grace was the lady who did it was quick and nice.
I gave a friend of mine a gift certificate to the salon and she said she was treated very poorly.  The staff is very rude and it's one of those places where I don't think they appreciate black business.  Do yourself a favor and walk the extra 2 blocks and hit one the other 3 spa/nail salons in the area.  You'll get way better service!

I've been going here for about 2 years now.  Val cuts/colors my hair and does a great job.  She's friendly, but not in an annoying way!  Their new space is very cool - much hipper than the old location.  I have recommended this place to several friends and they have all been pleased.
The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is the spa.  I've only had a facial, but it was pretty disappointing.  Not at all the relaxing experience I was looking to get.

I only came here once for a simple haircut and I had a pleasant experience.  My hairdresser (sorry forgot his name) was very nice and did a great job with my impossibly thick hair.  The salon was busy but not super crowded and loud.  Their new location is quite spacious and nice.  I haven't returned because I have a friend who cuts my hair now, but I would come back if needed.

My haircut was rushed and the guy called me by my last name the entire time.

Let me start off by saying the staff (well most of them) that I encountered were very nice and friendly and I can only speak for their capabilities in the makeup and special occasion categories.

The new salon is very nice inside, clean and bright. I went for a hair and makeup trial for my wedding, the stylists I worked with tried their best, it just was not my style personally. I did think charging the same price for a trial as the actual day was a little much but I can see why they might do that.

I had hair extensions done by Beata.  She was amazing.  This is not an inexpensive service, so I shopped around and had a few consultations at different salons.  Beata was by far the best, most personable stylist. Her price was comparable to others and the quality of hair by far the best I've seen in years.  I've been having this service done for almost 10 years, and just moved to Chicago, so I needed a new stylist. The extensions turned out amazing and have lasted for months, without a touch up.  I will definitely go back to Salon 212 in the future, it's a beautiful place!

I went here for a massage awhile ago. I had the same experience of the gal talking the entire time. Not just talking...but asking me questions. I didn't even get to relax.

very annoyed and haven't been back since.

Worst salon I've ever been to. I went for a manicure & the manicurist was talking to someone else the entire time she did my nails! Not kidding, the whole time. How about paying attention to your work, and your customer, just a little?
Then, I attempted to give them another chance. When I tried calling to make an appointment - in the middle of the day, so they were definitely open - no one answered the phone. Repeated tries, no answer. Are you kidding me? I took that as a sign. Never going back.

Great place.  I don't tend to be the type to get lots of haircuts but when I do, I go here...to Bob. He's cool and styles me up real nicelike.

Okay people. All bad reviewers should visit the NEW Salon 212. They moved a block north and it is bigger and better than EVER. A day in the life: walk in from Marion St and it's open, airy, contemporary and beautiful - the new spa facilities are amazing compared to the old space. Someone personally greets you and takes your jacket, offers you some coffee, tea, soda, lemon water, etc. Walk to your hair appointment and you are right in the center of the salon, where you can see everything around you in the well-lit, high ceiling'd and inviting large space. In the back, the shampooers are there with a very cute and intimate waiting room with another flat screen (for when you're in curlers or foils) with a small kitchen stocked with beverages. There are 4 or 5 personal spa rooms for massages, facials and body services - wow. So Vegas. Down the long hall, there is a private shower room and sauna/steam room. At the front, there is a mini-salon for make-up and nails with a counter full of personal lighted mirrors for ladies to put on their makeup after a day at the spa. Anyone who went to the old place will be SHOCKED to see this. I have been visiting Daniele for years (I don't let anyone else ever touch my hair, are you kidding?). I was never interested in the spa at the old salon but I WILL be back to the new salon for a spa day soon. I got my little tour of the place on a Thurs night and it was packed - clients and specialists all looked so happy. I can't wait for my spa day. Thanks.

This is for Waxing- Aesthetician: Niko I'm sad to read all the bad reviews of this place. But I do understand. There are times when I call and no one answers and one of the people that takes appointments isn't exactly phone courteous. I only go here for the waxing, I get my hair cut by a friend. The reason I come back here is for Niko. I've been seeing her for years and the reasons are simple: -She remembers me- She remembers my name, where I work, she even remembers stories I tell her. -She knows what she's doing- apply in direction of growth, tear up close to skin in opposite direction, hold the skin TAUGHT!! -She's clean. -She's nice. Niko doesn't work as much as she used to after she had a baby so in emergencies I've explored other salons, one very disastrous one not so bad. But when I can get my act together enough to make an appointment more than a day in advance...Niko at Salon 212 is my girl!!

Crowded and unprofessional. My massage therapist talked throughout my massage, as in "don't you just looooove massage?" and manicures and pedicures are very cursory--not remotely pampering.

I went to this salon at totally last minute on a Sunday. I was happy that they could take me at short notice but was disappointed of the results. It seemed very lazy, like no one was really paying attention to there job. It's very small and the "spa" is very interesting looking, and did I mention small? Prices are descent but I assure you can get a better haircut at another salon. My haircut was just plain awful.

I really don't like giving bad reviews, but just had a really painful waxing experience.  Usually have Heather (who's great!) but had a sub today as Heather's on leave and came home with a lot of pain and an only partially done wax.  Try somewhere with a more experienced waxer or wait for Heather.  Ouch.

Wish there was a no stars option! And I wish I read the reviews prior to going.   First of all,  I think it's a bad sign when you call a day spa, and can barely hear the receptionist. I had the same feeling when I walked into the salon- a little more than "too" noisy for a day spa.  Second bad sign-  when the person who just applied hot wax to your eyebrows says that she doesn't normally do this, that the regular person is out sick.   Third bad sign, it's been a few days, and the skin just below my eyebrows is still raw and  peeling- like a bad sunburn.  Anyone who looks at me can tell I have sensitive skin (white as a ghost kinda thing), and she didn't prepare the skin or put anything on it after, even when I asked. Fourth bad sign, similar to Cindy G,  my manicurist/pedicurist talked to other people the entire time.    I usually feel bad when I don't tip... but not here!  Go elsewhere- I definitely will.
