One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
A three course prix fix for $24, are you kidding me? If you're looking for quality food at a VERY reasonable price, Sally's After Dark is it! One of the best deals in SF. Here are my recommendations:
- sangria: light, refreshing and smooth
- sliders for an appetizer: the BEST sliders I've EVER had. The meat is moist and tender with a brioche bun. Heaven on earth.
- butter lettuce with goat cheese salad: this is a very light salad with just the right viniagrette to coat the leaves, but not so much that it overwhelms.
- short ribs: the meat is so tender that it falls off the bone. Did I say more?
- rib eye steak: DELICIOUS
- for dessert: EVERYTHING. And that says a lot for someone that does NOT have a sweet tooth. Everything is made fresh daily and life is too short.
For a Yelper such as myself that appreciates solid food at a reasonable price with a down home comfy feel, Sally's After Dark is my go-to place for dinner in SF. I suggest you give it a try.
I've always been a fan of Sally's for brunch, so was excited to learn about the new nighttime offering.
The food was very good. Portions were generous and elegantly placed. We share the special starter, mussels in a tomato broth that was buttery, garlicky and perfect for dipping crostini and the tables focaccia bread in. The ahi tuna was cooked slightly more than we'd like, but the accompanying peanut slaw was tantalizing. The side of polenta souffle was one to fight over and the spinach was spicy and perfectly steamed.
All of the deserts were perfect and delicious and in totally shareable, good sized portions.
Great, attentive service. The decor was creative, to be nice.
Low points are for the beer selection (only two options, Stella and Sierra Nevada, if I remember correctly).
I'll definitely be back if I'm in the neighborhood. Great value and I can't forget to mention the $24 choose your own app, main and desert option.
I hate to give this restaurant a mediocre rating because I had really high hopes before coming to eat here. Granted I will say Sally's After Dark is great in value and exceptional in service.
Sally's After Dark offers a prix fix menu for $24. This will include a starter, main entree, and dessert. I choose the De Haro Sliders as my starter, and my friend chooses the cheese board. The sliders were pretty good, and the brioche bun adds a perfect touch. Unfortunately the cheese board was a little sad. Presentation was poorly executed on this dish. For our entrees I chose the braised beef short ribs served on top of polenta souffle. My friend opted for the ribeye w/ cheddar mashed potatoes. Both our meat options were very tender, and not overly seasoned where the meat's natural flavors were hidden. Although the meat was good, I wouldn't put the polenta or cheddar mashed potatoes as memorable items. Alas, dessert. This was probably my favorite part of the evening. I selected the Flourless Chocolate Pecan Torte. This was served alongside a pomegranate sorbet. The torte was very heavy and rich, and the sorbet was very delicate. My friend chose the 'Little Bites Surprise' dessert. This is basically a sampling of everything good, sweet, and chocolate.
Overall, the food at Sally's After Dark is ok, but a good deal considering the price. I don't think I would pay full price for the items we chose for dinner that evening, but definitely a good deal as a prix fix.
I came here with a buddy of mine looking for a light meal last Friday and was pleasantly surprised. The food was DELICIOUS! and for the quality we got we could have spent easily twice as much.
Try:
- The Sliders (sooooo goood)
- The Mashed Potatoes (amazing)
- The Leek, Colliflower & Potato Soup

The ambiance of this place is great, a complete transformation from it's earlier decor (Sally's) to a laid back, candle lit, clothed table, fine dining experience.
If you're looking for something new and min-blowingly good check it out.
If you are looking for a place in Potrero to get some yummy comfort food without burning a hole in your wallet, look no further Sally's After Dark will take care of that for you. Currently offering a 3 course for under $25! You will not leave hungry - I'm still full and we had dinner there last week.
They have lots of tasty treats on the menu and they do not skimp on the servings. Do yourself a favor and make sure you pace yourself - remember - it's ok to bring home leftovers.
This place is easy to get to, has lots of parking and solves your last minute dinner making woes.
Can't beat the $24 prix fixe menu. We arrived at 9pm to a semi-scarce dining room. The "host" had to check if the kitchen was still open. Excellent wine list, great tunes...decent food. I had the short ribs on polenta cakes. Honey had the rib eye. Dessert was ok. My pound cake brulee looks like they accidentally spilled the sangria allover it. Good, in theory...but messy in practice. I'd go back with a group of folks for wine and appetizers.
Spectacular service and great value dinner options! I'm a carnivore and big fan of sliders, and I place much higher importance on the quality of the food, than presentation or ambiance of the facility. By those criteria, Sally's After Dark is a winner in book!
Unless you're a vegetarian, you can't go wrong with the braised short-ribs...and even if you are, I think the polenta souffle that accompanies that dish would make ordering it worthwhile. The meat is super tender and flavorful, and I've never liked polenta until I tried it here. If you go for the $24 combo option, start with the sliders...they mix in a little chorizo with the ground beef, which gives it a unique spicy kick of flavor.
The fact that it's only two blocks from my apt ensures that I will be a regular here for the foreseeable future.
Wow...seriously, the $24 prix fix menu rocks! Few friends of mine came here so we were able to get a variety of different appetizers, entrees, and desserts. I was so shocked when I saw the size of the appetizers. The sliders and the beef aujus sandwich were huge. Then I had the short ribs, while my friends got the steak. The meat on the short ribs just fell off and was so tender. The sauce was very good.
I was stuffed, but I had to save room for dessert. Again, I was able to try everything cause my friends and I picked one of each on the menu. The flourless chocolate cake was very rich and creamy. The sorbet came in a hazelnut crisp bowl...that was my favorite.
The service was pretty good too. Overall, I was really impressed with how much I got for only $24. Seriously, a meal like this usually goes for so much more. That's why I think this place is a true jem.
Very good dinning experience. Atmosphere was perfect; you can have a good conversation with good company without having to yell across the table. And the food is superb with perfect proportions. Highly recommend the seared scallops with a glass of Francisco's signature sangria. And the desserts and ports are perfect way to end the evening!
Great price, great portions, creative twists on old standbys. Nom Nom Nom.

Everything is delicious at Sallys After Dark, but I have to say, the desserts are the best, with the sliders a close second. We each got the $24 prix fix menu: an appetizer, an entree and dessert. Even though we were STUFFED from the fantastic appetizers and entrees, we somehow found room for the desserts at the end! We all shared, so I was able to try the pound cake brulee with mixed fruit, the little bites and the pumpkin cake (a special the day we went). It sounds like the menu will be changing often so I'll definitely have to return again to try the new items!
PS. A definite plus is the little parking lot out front. There aren't a huge number of spaces, but we were able to get one without any trouble. A definite plus compared to my usual SF dining experiences. =)
Good eats for a great price! The sliders are almost a meal in itself...the sangria is not to heavy and the grapes are a great addition...my favorite is the Tiny Bites...yum!
The official opening for Sally's After Dark is Saturday, October 24, 2009 - yes, they still serve breakfast. I highly recommend the sliders and the rib-eye - um umm good.
I came starved for the soft launch and left full and satisfied. Come with an appetite and leave with most of your money still in your pockets. It's only $24 for a three course meal - can't beat that. Be prepared to be served large portions and don't forget to try their Sangria. Do eat the grapes soaking in the pitcher, don't force down dessert if you don't have any more room in your stomach. But, if you do, the flour-less chocolate cake is to die for but can only be consumed in tiny little bites - BEWARE - it is SUPER RICH.
Happy Dining!
ALSO, the wait staff here is super nice, knowledgeable and attentive. A dinner spot that's an A+ in my book.
Sally's After Dark doesn't officially open until Saturday (today!), but was able to crash the soft opening last night... and I am so glad I did! Excellent, flavorful food at great prices.
We started with the market salad. I am usually not a fan of blue cheese, but it was subtle enough and went really well with the dressing. And we couldn't tell but was there an extra spice on those candied walnuts besides the usual sugar and butter...?
Then the sliders. Oh. Dang. The sliders are awesome. The flavor of the meat is so good, and then they stick it in a fresh-baked brioche bun... UNFAIR! And the two sliders can be a meal all by themselves.
My dinner partner ordered the short ribs, and I believe this is going to turn into their signature dish. The ribs were about three inches high, perfectly cooked, falling off the bone, and the meat was easily separated just using your fork. And it came topped with salpicon (sliced jalapenos, cerranos, red onions and cilantro) which gave it just the right kick. I almost forgot the polenta souffle that came with it. Way too much goodness. I had the Santa Maria seasoned rib eye steak. The steak was perfect, but honestly, after eating those sliders, I really should have tried something different. I think I overdid it on the red meat. (Blasphemy!)
I was really too full for dessert, but we had to try it. Now I do not eat much chocolate it's usually too rich and sweet, but the flourless chocolate cake was great! And came with a really refreshing scoop of pomegranate sorbet. And we got the Little Bites... now this is the perfect share dish. Two of everything: chocolate coffee truffles, rum and ginger truffles (I think they called them "Dark and Stormy" truffles), orange coconut macaroons, homemade peanut brittle, strawberry cream puffs... the Little Bites are supposed to change every time, so I am definitely going to order that one again!
Summary: great food and really great prices (where can you get a ribeye for $18?!). I'll be back...
This place recently opened for dinner. If you've been here for breakfast...you must try the dinner menu as well. We had a group of 6 people. We ordered different items on the menu...everything was great. The leek soup was excellent. We ordered the mashed potatoes as a side...delicious. Oh yes, don't forget the sangria. Order the pitcher!!!
The place is table clothe casual and great for familes are groups. The price is very reasonable including the $24 three course prix fix menu.
If you're looking for a great meal for a terrific price. This is the place.
Everything from the bread on the table, the sangria, to the desserts rocked. Neighborhood gem, cool concept. Great service.
If you love Sally's during the day, you definitely won't be disappointed with Sally's After Dark!
Don't expect diner food when coming to Sally's After Dark. It is nothing of the sort. The food is sophisticated, complex, and downright phenomenal. The rib eye was so tender, juicy, and cooked as I had ordered it. The meat of the short ribs just fell off the bone. The seasoning to the short rib is short of a miracle! The polenta was so creamy that I had to make sure that it wasn't the mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were whipped to perfection. The crouton salad had just the right amount of sweetness and tartness. The scallops were sweet and delicately seasoned teasing my mouth with each bite! The chicken was so juicy and sweet that I can honestly say that I have never had chicken like that before. In general, I have always avoided ordering chicken at any restaurant, but I would highly recommend this dish to any of my red meat loving friends! And the sangria! Talk about an uh-oh drink. It was absolutely delectable! And don't forget about the desserts! The chocolate cake was heaven!
The service was attentive, super friendly, and knowledgeable. Our waiter was able to tell us how our entrees were prepared down to what wine should accompany our meal. He checked in with us multiple times during our meal without being overbearing or over-intruding. The environment that he put forth was welcoming and relaxing after a long Friday and fighting the traffic up to the city from down south.
One would think that with all that I have just described above, you'd have to give up your leg and a couple of fingers on your dominant hand for a meal and service of that quality, but in truth, the pricing at Sally's After Dark is very reasonable. It is definitely a good place for a weekly romantic date night, or a weekly girls' get together.
I hate to be the lone voice here, but I really cannot understand why this place has all five star ratings. Overall our dining experience was good, but there are only two areas where I would give it a top rating, the first being service and the second being value. I definitely agree with the other reviewers that you get a lot of food for your money. And the staff could not have been better. Really, really great service. Having said that, the food itself was more like a 3.5 star affair and the ambiance of the place is more like 2 stars. It's like eating in a cafeteria. I think it actually may be a cafeteria. The lighting is bad. There is a single unisex bathroom. This bathroom is outside the restaurant and you need to get a key. Yes, like at a gas station. In my opinion, this is not the "fine dining" experience the other reviewers are making it out to be. This is actually the first time I have trusted Yelp and felt let down. Sally's is a perfectly fine restaurant, but it is not "fine dining".
