I like Sallys! I found out about Sally a few years back when I still lived in the Bay Area, Cali. I'm one of http://Makeupalley.com (avid) reviewers (-did I tell you that I really enjoy sharing my reviews whenever and wherever I can? ^^) -and Sally was mentioned in numerous reviews. So I went to one -and been going to Sally for this and that ever since.
They have beauty products that you can't really find at Sephora or Ulta -or even drugstores. They also have an extensive line of makeup/beauty (hair, etc) tools. Like most stores, they do have specials, sale, and all of those good stuff. :)
Sally's prices for shampoo and conditioner are so much better than my old hairdresser. The staff is helpful in guiding you to the right product. All nail supplies are fresh as they move a lot of product. I am a product babe and am glad to use what the professionals use.
The selection is decent. I came here to get some clip in weave one time and they didn't have my color so I decided to sew my own clips into a pack of the hair that didn't have clips attached. It worked out ok, but the pack of hair was $80 and you cannot return it, even if it is unopened. They have cheaper ghetto fabulous hair for about $30 a pack and I've used it for glue in extensions before but it smells funny and I can only bear to leave it in for one night because it itches. The glue smells even worse- like a dead animal or fishy you know what. It repulses me, but I guess that isn't Sally's fault. She didn't make it, she just sells it. I wish they would have had the clip in extensions in my shade, because every time I went for the next year they never once had them. They need to stock up for the white girls.
They have a great selection of dye and nail polish, but they don't have OPI which kind of sucks. And they close at 8. It gets really annoying because when the clocks hits 7:45, the little cashier lady comes marching around the store doing some obnoxious countdown that I have felt compelled to make fun of every time I've been in there. It says 5 minutes about 20 times while marching around the aisles, then 4, then 3, 2, 1 until she commands everyone to come up to the front and make their purchases. They should really get her a loudspeaker or something because she is making an ass of herself.
Looking to change up your hair? This is the place to go for styling tools, shampoos (like ones that wash out the yellow if you're going for a white look) perm and semi permanent colors of mainstream AND other brands you would otherwise have to run around and order online. This is a good place to pick up products like mannequin heads, shears, shapers, big containers of professional quality acetone, hair extensions etc. So yeah, it's not JUST a hair place, but this is definatley a place I'd send you to look around for pro quality stuff you can't find at places like Ulta.
You know I don't think I have ever been in this place until last week. Weird. Okay, well I went in to get some cheap make-up for my Halloween costume. I definitely came out with the goods. Whore red lipstick? Check. Black nail polish? Check. Purple eyeshadow? Check. Shiny lipgloss? Check. Yeah and if I would have gotten my colored hair gel here instead of Walgreens I could have done all my Halloween Make-up shopping here.
While I was in the store I did snoop around. They have a good selection of products for decent prices tho I do love my Bravco and Sephora. Hey but when I am in the pinch, and since this place is in my hood, I'll be heading over to Sally's.
I go here to get my hair stuff. the workers are also really friendly and even suggested a few products to me that i keep in heavy rotation to keep my curls looking good. they have super cheap eyeshadows, and then they go on sale. a variety of cosmetics for 99 cents is nice, if you don't like how the color shows up then you can just toss them they were so cheap! I like this place and will continue to go back.
When it comes to hair products I'm a bravco girl because they have everything I could possibly need. Today after years of trying every chemical possible to get my very curly hair straight I decided I was in need of some curls for tonight's Halloween costume.
The major problem is that my hair has been very well trained not to curl so I headed to Sally's for some help! I figured Sally's is much cheaper than Bravco and I only needed supplies for the evening. The sales associates at Sallys could not have been friendlier and helped me find the perfect hot rollers for my hair. I also ended up making a few other purchases while I was in there because the deals were too good to pass up.
Over the years I have found some pretty good staple products for my wavy hair - like the Proclaim Glossing Polish. When your hair has had too much sun or you are blow drying it too much, rub a quarter in your hands and smooth on the dryer parts of your hair. Blow dry. It adds luster and keeps the heat from further damaging it. Easy on applying as the results could be "greasy".
The semi permanent hair color is good when you can't make it to the salon and need a quick fix. The hair treatments are good and I love that they have little sample packets for $1 or $2. I find the sales associate with the salt and pepper hair and black glasses to be friendly, and knowledgeable- a real pleasure to work with. A good girlie place.
Times of stress= Skin Issues.
Skin Issues: Simultaneously flaking, peeling, oily as the infamous ExxonValdeez spill, dark under-eye circles and breaking out. It's indescribably gross, like a Francis Bacon painting joined forces with Pablo Picasso and a bang-on horror movie mutant makeup job, except it's on my face... and it's reflecting back at me!
Trying to fix it gets expensive.
Sometimes even after monumental effort, I still look like Medusa!
Unless you go to Sally's. My spiky-punk-haired (flourescent pink now) sis told me the secret, and now I pass it on to you.
Shhhhhh... yes it looks ghetto out front, but Sally's has Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Cleanser, Exfoliator, Toner (all in one!) for $1.49. Yes, You read that correctly. Waaaay cheaper than Sephora, Ulta or even CVS.... For the price of a soft drink you too can have perfect, glowing, pore-free face!
I bought three.
Technically, I bought one, then came back the very next day, 10 minutes late for work with my "Girl, your complexion looks Amazing" make-up-free face and bought the rest of the store's stock. Plus some sample packs of hair conditioner and nail polish, all for pocket change.
You'd never know I was under stress... I look great and have the cash to spare!
If you've been on a Windy City Rollers bus you can see that Maggie and I like to paint up our faces and dress in themes. So I generally find myself running to my girl Sally on mornings of the bout for supplies. And, like a good girl, she always has what I need. Fake eyelashes, glitter, obnoxious eye color, clip in colored hair extensions, and whatever else grabs my attention (I'm addicted to impulse shopping). Everone seems very freindly, especially the older woman with the glasses. Big plus- they let me bring in my pup and are always very sweet to her as well. 'Cause she likes to be fancy too.
I needed a new straightner because mine was starting to smell like a combination of burned hair and product. I asked my friend where she got her cute new pink one. I went to the store and it was $150 bucks. I was speechless. THEN I went around the corner to Sallys and got a super cute pink one (proceeds go to Breast Cancer) and it was $40 bucks and my wavy hair straightens perfectly everytime. Go to Sallys to save yourself some money on good products.
