Salem Town Forest is the best kept secret in Salem, NH. Huge natural park with trails for hiking, horses, mountain biking, camping, and more. Various terrain. I love to go hiking and take my dog off leash.
Wild life I have seen: Deer, porcupine, ducks, wild birds, fox, raccoon, turtles, and snakes.
On Shadow Lake Rd, right before Shadow Lake.

Excellent place to hike/walk on trails with my black lab off-leash. When Musquash in Londonderry gets too buggy in the summer I go here and it's not as bad. Today many parts of the trails are under water though. Should be better in a week or two I hope.

Signs are already up for hunting season (which doesn't start til next month) so wear a vest and get one for your dog. Trails are somewhat muddy but generally clear and not many people about. Parking is across the street from a trailer park on Shadow Lake Road (Rt 111) just past the Walmart on 28. (that means 93 to 28 to 111) about .6 miles from the intersection of 28/111 where the Hess station is.  There are 5-6 trails marked out pretty well and a few offroad bike setups for jumping, but I saw no kids there midday midweek, which was just fine. Saw a snake getting of the trail before the dog noticed it and heard lots of birds.
