The best pad Thai I've had. I'm from the cities and have been to many Thai places. This was delicious! Full of vegetables and a lot of flavor . My husband had red beef curry . It was also very flavorful and filled with vegetables.
Awesome service, fast . Truly authenticHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kristina K.Seattle, WA39230164Aug 15, 2016
I have very mixed feelings towards my experience with this establishment. The restaurant itself is nice enough, nothing special. It was empty during usual lunch rush hours which did seem a bit unnerving.
The food had its ups and downs. We all ordered vegetable options due to my dietary restrictions. Now, they do call it the vegetable option and not vegetarian. One of us found chicken in our dish, another dish had oyster sauce, and the third seemed acceptable.
The vegetables were cooked wonderfully. They were al dente and had a nice crunch to them. It was also a beautiful assortment of vegetables.
The sauces seemed to be an issue. The Vegetable Delight had a very bland sauce that seemed to have hints of beef. The dish was also swimming in it.
The Basil dish had an excellent flavor but was almost inedible due to the sheer amount of oil present in the sauce. I can tell that it will not be settling well digestion wise.
The vegetable tofu dish was the favorite of the three. It has a very nice and lightly flavored sauce. The dish was not soaked in it and the tofu was cooked nicely.
Our server was very pleasant but nothing special.
The price of the food was most certainly not worth the lack of flavor. I will most likely not come back but I suppose it would do in a pinch.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Natalia M.Anchorage, AK081Aug 20, 2018
Extremely mediocre food, and very overpriced for the quality and quantity you get. We ordered the veg curry, and it tasted completely different from what I usually get-- no coconut milk, no thick or flavorful curry base, just a very watery bowl of spiced soup with some floating vegetables. The vegetables with basil was somewhat better.
I recommend against going here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Carolyn W.Duluth, MN151929Jul 12, 2018
I ate here last night and ordered the Massaman curry. It was very flavorful and delicious

You know that after taste after eating Chinese food? Burnt, nasty, oily taste? Ya, that's what this place's food tastes like. Gross. My tofu was charred and burnt and zero flavor on my fried rice dish.
Duluth has a serious issue providing quality, tasty food! I can cook better food @home and I'm not of Asian descent. Holy hell, this town is horrible for its food.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jose R.Omaha, NE63237Jun 14, 2017
Just ate here for the first time and had positive experience. The decoration and ambiance is decent, place is neat and service was great! The menu had a good variety of dishes. Went for the chicken fried rice and wasn't bad. I think it was the owner, she was very friendly and accommodating. I'll definitely come again to try other items on the menu.

I wouldn't recommend coming here. The curry was water down and the appetizer sauces. The chicken satay had a bitter burnt taste to it. The noodle dish had no flavor. And it took a while to get our dishes and we were the only ones there.

Update Feb. 2018:
Well, they fixed it up the decor quite a bit from the last time I checked out Sala Thai. I saw this as a good sign that maybe the other things that weren't so favorable last time would also be a bit better. Well, we were greeted upon our entrance with a sign which said "Please wait to be seated." The people who were working, looked up at us, with no greeting, no welcome, and nothing indicate that they might be with us shortly. When one of the employees found time to come to the door, he said "Do you have reservations?" I said that we did not. He looked at me a bit confused and said "Uh... ok," as he looked down at a sheet of paper with a furrowed look on his brow. He appeared to be trying to figure out where he could possibly seat us without reservations. I looked around the restaurant to see one table occupied in the entire restaurant.
As soon as we were seated, he rushed over to the window to turn off the "OPEN" sign in the window. I was worried for a second and thought they were closed when we arrived, but looked at the menu to see that they closed a full hour after our arrival (closing time 8:30). I thought it was a bit strange that he rushed over to turn off the light so much earlier than the advertised closing time. A couple came through the door at 7:45. They did not receive a welcome greeting, but instead, the first words they heard as they entered the door were "Uh, we close at 8." They looked disappointed they wouldn't be able to sit down for dinner.
When our meal arrived, we received a small fraction of food compared with previous visits. I also noticed that some of the ingredients in my favorite dish were completely missing. The meal was also much oilier than usual and the sauce was a different color. I am not sure if they are removing ingredients along with making the portions tiny, or if they just forgot to add them. Either way, it was quite a disappointment. I asked if I could get an extra serving of rice to go with the now tiny portion. Our server said yes, and got me a second tiny serving. This batch of rice was extremely under-cooked and crunchy.
When paying for our meal, our server took the bill, did not even ask if we needed any change, and did not return. Looking at my previous review, I see that I added an extra star because our second server was excellent. Well, this time the service wasn't good from anyone and the food was worse than last time. I guess that means I'll have to subtract a star. This is really sad and disappointing, as the previous location was one of my favorite restaurants in Duluth; for the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food and service continue to go downhill. I gave it another chance after my last poor experience and I really wanted to like it again. Sadly, I can't be sure that I will make another effort to go there again.
Original Review (7/17/15):
Ambiance not nearly as nice as their previous 2 locations.
We waited for 20 minutes and none of the staff even acknowledged that we were there.
We finally got the server's attention and asked if we could please see some menus. With an annoyed look he said "Well.... I guess I could drop off some menus if you want."
We ordered our food and waited 40 minutes for it to arrive. Some of the people in our group ordered the lunch buffet, but 75-80% of the food bins at the buffet were completely empty. The few items that were in the bins did not look very appetizing... quite crusty looking actually.
Our second server was very friendly and looked like she was working hard, so I will give Sala Thai and extra star for her.
I ordered dessert and they were out of all of the desserts. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as 100% of the times I went to their other location they were "out of all of the desserts."
The food wasn't as good as the previous location and the portions were smaller. The apples in my meal were not nearly as fresh as they were at the previous location. I was excited about Sala Thai moving downtown.... but if it continues to be like this, it will not be too exciting.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nordic K.Duluth, MN1460Jul 27, 2015
Stopped in for the lunch buffet with my wife during her lunch break today. Got up, grabbed a plate and waited for the entrees to be available and then waited some more. There was enough chicken panang and vegetable fried rice to fill a plate. Everything else was out. There was no steamed rice option. My wife suggested we leave but since I remembered that when this place was Thai Krathong before it was pretty good -- I convinced her to stay. Bad move. There were some entrees I never got to try during the time we were there because they never got refilled. What we did eat was mediocre to good. Not close to great. We were then presented with a bill for $30 for 2 buffets and 2 soft drinks. For a mediocre buffett that was over half empty the entire time. Crazy.
I really want to see this place do well, but without major changes to both their recipes and their lunch operations, I see no way it can. We won't be back anytime too soon. I hope the owners read these reviews and get the Twin Ports some good quality ThaiHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
