What a find!  This cute gem is hidden in the industrial area of Fremont.  I think it's probably one of the only restaurants in the area, and for those who work nearby, you have a great go-to Thai restaurant for solid lunchtime fare.

I was really blown away by the authentic, flavorful dishes.  The food was delicious; we licked our plates clean. Here's what we ordered for 7 people, family style:
- Pad thai - good, but a little too sweet for my taste
- Pad kee mao - one of my favorite dishes of the night
- Crispy fish with sweet garlic - home run! Nice crunchy crust with moist, flaky fish inside
- Panang curry - deliciously creamy, good balance of chicken and veggies
- Duck curry - similar flavor to the panang curry, duck was savory
- Crab fried rice - not bad, but would probably pass on this next time
- Thai iced tea - yummmmm

The restaurant is bursting with lots of different colors and textures, creating a really modern and chic vibe.  The large table that we were seated at had some benches that were a bit awkward to enter/exit and didn't have any back rests.  Other than that, the atmosphere was warm and comfortable.  For a Friday night, it wasn't too crowded, so service was speedy.

Don't pass this place up as just another Thai restaurant.  If you're looking for some solid Thai food, Sala Thai 2 won't disappoint.

I came here with a friend and ordered the Pad See Ew AND uh... when the dish came out, it was slightly burnt and crunchy ... which doesn't sound appetizing and I can vouch after tasting the dish that it was not.

We were the only customers at the joint so you would assume that the chef and waitresses would focus all their attention on us. Not so.  The restaurant is located in a corporate office parking lot.

Major disappointment and did not satisfy cravings.

Really authentic, delicious Thai food (and it's Halal, too!). Fremont doesn't really have too much to offer to foodies, but Sala Thai #2 is representin' the 510 (okay that sounded really lame; you can tell i haven't yelped in a while).

Well, we ordered:
-Papaya Salad - tangy, with lots of green papaya!
-Green Curry with chicken - not spicy like I thought, but still excellent
-Spicy String Bean with Shrimp - they give HUGE shrimp
-Pad Thai - pretty standard, but a large heaping portion
-Dessert: Sticky Rice with Coconut Ice Cream - we wanted Mango, but they ran out. the sticky rice was a bit too sweet, but definitely a good end to a great meal.

The location is really random, but they've been around forever so you know it's solid. i really enjoyed the decor inside, and we got a nice table in the corner so that we could be loud and obnoxious.

Will definitely return!!

Another favorite of miine.
This place is hard to notice if you are just passing by.
You might have difficulties to find parkings during lunch time.
However, the food is good.   I especially recommend  their thai-fried-rice,
and fried-rice-with-crab-meat.

Eh. I wasn't too impressed. The place is in the middle of nowhere (really, it is) in Fremont. Which was good for really fast service, but not so good otherwise. My family came here for the promise of fried ice cream.

It's a smallish place, although since it's it's not really surrounded by anything they probably don't get too many crowds. The family had chicken satay, fried rice, mango chicken, and pad thai. Nothing was exceptionally memorable, but it was edible and we had no objections.

Their dessert roti was neat, though. Fried (I think?) bread dipped in sugar and honey. I made myself slightly sick eating so much of it. The fried ice cream was disappointing though. I want fried ice cream that doesn't fall apart when you eat it. And I know it's possible because I used to have it in Boston. I don't understand why Bay Area restaurants can't seem to be able to do the same. :(

Undoubtedly one of the best Thai Restaurants in the Bay Area. Even before we get into the food, from the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm welcome. The set-up and decor of the restaurant is very well put together. You can tell they put a lot of thought into it. This is NO hole-in-the-wall. It's location however is quite poor and hidden. If you were stumble upon it, you would think you found a gem.

Now on to the food. If I were to recommend one dish, without hesitation I would recommend the *PLA RAD PRIK*. This is the "Batter Rex Sol filet topped w/spicy garlic sauce and crispy sweet basil". When my friend first took me here, he told me I was about to have the best fish of all time. After the first bite, I agreed with him completely. Even if all the other dishes were horrible, this ONE dish would make the restaurant worth coming to.

Come and try the food. Especially the fish. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you to whoever recommended the rex sole fish dish!  I don't normally like fish, but I wound up swiping half of it from my husband.  My beef and eggplant dish was also very good, just not the absolute surprise of the fish.  The meat was very nicely cut.  He had the squid appetizer all to himself and enjoyed it.

The service was efficient and polite, just as I prefer it.  If we lived near there, we would definitely go back.  As it is, if we get another errand in that area, we'll plan it around lunch.

Area:
At first sight we weren't really sure of how good this place could be given the external appearance of the area. (It's in a commercial area).

Atmosphere:
wow. It looked great inside. Nice tables, fresh flowers and roses on each table, tiles on the walls, and some of the seats were wood benches. Really cool.

Food:
Great. I ordered the Drunken Noodle with Chicken. I request it to be HOT and it was.

Definitely  recommend this place.

I'm not a huge fan of Thai food. My general thought of Thai food is that it is just Chinese food topped with ground peanuts.

With that being said, I have been going part-time vegetarian in the past month and this place is only a 2 min walk from work. The lunch specials are cheap and get prepped quick. I am diggin' the pad eggplant for $6.95. It's actually got me to love eggplant. I don't know why I never liked eggplant. Just one of those foods you don't like for no particular reason. Kinda like that person at work you hate, you've never spoken to them ever in your life, but you just hate them. Then when you finally get to know them, you find out you have a lot in common and that they are actually pretty cool. That's my eggplant experience.

Weird location. It's in the corner of some industrial office space, but when you walk inside, it's as if you walked into a whole new world. A def convenient Fremont lunch spot.

Affordable, nice peeps, and good food.

One of my favorite places for lunch during the weekdays. The dishes are very flavorful, and their "very spicy" level is just right for me. I've enjoyed everything I've tried so far:

spicy string beans (great with rice!)
beef salad (soo good. The beef is warm, and the dressing can be a bit too sour but I like the sour, salty, and spicy combo)
pad kee mao (Drunken noodles. This dish is very popular at my work)
pad ma keur (eggplant dish - I like how the eggplant is not mushy...just a very very slight crisp on the outside and creamy inside)
and my new favorite pad ped nor mai (from the menu: "sauteed bamboo shoot w/meat, bell pepper, sweet basil, and chili paste," I don't really like the smell of bamboo shoots, but these were very tasty, so I didn't mind the smell. I just love the flavor combination: salty, sour, spicy, with a hint of sweetness. The sauce is on the very salty side, but it's great with rice!Yum!

Whenever I visited, the service was very friendly. The Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee here seems to be on the very sweet side, but that's okay because whenever I get the drink to-go, I usually dilute it and make one cup turn into 3, so I can share with friends. hehe.

This is my favorite Thai place in the Bay.

The service is attentive and very nice. Refill drinks often and will make suggestions on your preferences if you've never had Thai.

I personally love the yellow curry here, and I'm usually a panang curry fan (that's good here too though). The fried cod is really good too, they serve it 3 ways. They also have a dish with crisp basil, green beans, and chicken that is awesome too. Basically, out of the 20 or so times I've been here I think only one plate wasn't to my liking.

Good prices and the place is as clean as they come, great modern (although not very Thai) decorations.

I am a HUGE fan of Salathai on State Street, but live closer to Salathai 2. I decided to check it out on Friday to see if it was the same (or better) than the other one.

UNFORTUNATELY it tastes nothing the same. I ordered the Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and eggrolls. Eggrolls were delicious, but the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew were just ok. Usually they're unbelievable, but I wasn't impressed.

As a vegetarian, I immediately noticed fish oil. I called back and they exchanged my whole order for free without any questions, which I really appreciated! I won't go back to Salathai 2, but instead stick to the other on State.

Close to a 4 star place; 3.5 stars.  Definitely has potential and for it to be a branch of the first Sala Thai, I really want to try the other location, too!

We were quickly seated and had a party of 10 people.  The place was empty, but once the clock hit 12:00 noon, people poured right in.  You'd find people of all ages, enjoying their meal.  Every dish sounded so good.  We ordered a bunch of dishes and the food came out quick.  My quest for today was to try Pad Thai and I must say, it wasn't up to my expectations.  The noodles were plenty, but the rest of the ingredients were skimped out on.  I tried the fresh coconut juice, which was a delight.  Just wish it was a younger so the meat would have been easier to carve out.  Everything was generally fresh and delicious though!  The service was excellent and the waitresses were accommodating.

I'd definitely consider this a hole in the wall :).

One of the best Thai restaurants in NorCal, no doubt!  Food is amazing first of all.  Service is fast and efficient.  If i were to take one of the stars away, it would be for the lack of ventilation/AC system!  It is incredibly hot in there during the summer months.  Because the food is really that good, I'll eat there in the midst of a heat wave!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

When I eat Thai food, I like to get to the core of the cooking, sauteed dishes, soups, and salads like larb or som tum. I skip all BBQ items, noodles of any kind (well sometimes Pad Thai), and curries (unless they make the curry themselves).

That being said, we had a couple really good dishes tonight, very intense, and with the right balance of flavors. They definitely don't hold back the flavors here, and it's typically hard to find a Thai restaurant that doesn't westernize their recipes anymore. The cooking at this Sala Thai is probably as good as the other one on State St, but the 1 star deduction comes from the slightly tough meats we had.

Tom Yum Gai - Broth was intense in every way; sour, spicy, savory, with all the complex flavors of kaffir lime leaf, roasted chili paste, lemongrass, and galanga.

Pad Ped Nor Mai - Sauteed bamboo shoot w/meat (we had beef), bell pepper, sweet basil, and chili paste. This dish was also intensely flavored, with a very nice kick to it.

Eat with some sticky rice, and you have yourself a proper Thai meal, complete with sweat and clear sinuses.

Good reliable Thai food though nothing exceptional. Reasonably priced and a welcome option in this restaurant-barren part of Fremont that lies in the shadow of the large GM-Toyota car plant (which may soon manufacture the Prius in the US). Dark, chic interior. Staff seemed to have more important matters to attend to than customers. Closed in the afternoon.

For a long time, I thought I didn't like Thai food. I tried the curries a couple of times in random places and just didn't like it. However, any time I would actually tell someone that I didn't like Thai food, they would stop what they were doing and just stare at me with a "You don't like Thai food?!" and he or she would then proceed to think about cutting off all ties of friendship with me.

That changed when I came to Sala Thai. I realized that yes, maybe I don't really care for the curries, but that doesn't mean I can't like other stuff. In all honesty, I think I would be fine with any dish not infused with coconut (I'm sorry, ok?).

I really liked the spring rolls and the drunken noodle. For dessert, I have tried Sala Thai's roti, which was pretty good. Very sweet. Also, as a coffee person, I had to try the Thai Iced Coffee, which was very different from most coffee drinks I had. At the first sip, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. At the 2nd sip, I thought it was interesting. By the 3rd sip, I liked it.

If you can't handle your spice, do yourself a favor and stick with the mild because the medium can get spicy (not that I couldn't handle it or anything. My Pakistani culture has indeed served me well;) )

Sala Thai is pretty nice on the inside and the staff is was friendly as well. It's the kind of place that even a non-Thai food eating person such as myself can go and leave full.

Although the parking SUCKS, it is worth it to eat their food.

The environment is nice, wooden benches, not cluttered like other restaurants.

The food comes out fairly fast; there is this one fish dish which is EXCELLENT. I have never had any fried fish that tasted that good. The pad thai is also good, noodles not too thin, not too fat, but just right. I know you could drink thai tea anywhere, but it is also really refreshing and yummy (and not expensive like those milk tea places). The display of food is really nice too, not to mention the kindness of the waitresses.

Other than the no-parking-ever-to-be-found, it is a nice sit-down or take out restaurant that I would go again.

A good place to go if you only have $10.

It was the our Yelp Date Night. I told the boy that I was craving for Pineapple Fried Rice, so I told him definitely Thai. Since we were going to do our Costco stock up run, we went down to Fremont.

I Yelped for the best Thai food around Fremont and Sala Thai came up. We got the address and went to the first location first. It was 7 pm and the place was ridiculously packed.

We were determined to try this place, so we opted to go to Sala Thai #2. The location is in the middle of nowhere...but once we go there, it was also packed. Damn, this place must be that good.

We got seated at the corner for there were many parties going on. I thought service was going to be bad, but the two ladies were just awesome. They don't forget anything!

We ordered the shrimp tom yum soup, pineapple fried rice, and the boy ordered the red curry with beef. Our food came really fast. Of course, we grubbed!

Since the other Yelpers recommended not leaving the place without ordering the sticky rice and mango....we ordered that too. OH MY...best sticky rice and mango ever!

Overall, we'll definitely come back to this place. Price was decent, service was fast (and the ladies were friendly!)

PS: if you had a stressful day, I wouldn't suggest going here b/c the surroundings are very hectic and loud.

Hey to be honest, not bad food for the prices. Actually quite good. I had the tom yum goong soup and red curry with seafood. Pineapple rice was fantastic. And I don't just think that because I was hungry.

Pros: Good food, nice setting, awesome looking mosaic on the wall.
Cons: Weird benches to sit on, strange location, waiter a little unobservant.

The last time I went here, I had suggested this place for my Muslim friend and all her sisters since it's halal. It was a Thursday night and the restaurant seemed closed.

The 'Open' sign was not lit and the lights inside were dim. It wasn't until my friend got out of the car and stared at the hours that she saw someone inside the restaurant come towards the door. Then and only then did they turn on more lights and switch on the lighted 'Open' sign.

I have been a here a few times as it is near the bf's workplace. Consistently good food - all that I have tried because I try to get something new every time.

The spicier the better.
The first time my lady and I went in, they gave us a free coconut to drink from & eat!

The food comes fast, tastes great, and is seasoned well.

The waitresses are very attentive, even if you only ordered water to drink, it will be full all the time.

I forgot the name but there was a spicy bean dish that was gorgeous. The spicier, the better!

Added bonus: my Muslim friends are willing to accompany me here because of the halal meat.

I must say.  This place was WAY better than what I had expected.  It may be out in the middle of nowhere but it was worth the search.  Many may have a difficult time finding this place, so just keep searching around grimmer until you see their sign.  That will be pretty much your only chance of finding your path to delectable goodness.  Even getting through the front door was difficult.  My friend and I walked around the building until one of the employees actually came out to fetch us.

Once inside, you will see a brilliant display of BACK SPLASH.  You know those awesome tiles you see people put in their kitchens on the home network.  It seems to me the owner must have been in a BACK SPLASH mood cause this stuff is everywhere.  Aside from the excessive use of tile, the food was great and the atmosphere was quite unique for a "sequel" restaurant.  We had the Pad Thai and something else that I verbally butchered when I ordered it (it was #5 on the lunch special menu).  It was a spicy chicken and bamboo dish.  The food looks and tastes great here, and I would definitely try the soup next time I go.  Make sure you go before 12 too, as the business crowd starts to pile in.  Next stop for Thai food is the prequel Sala Thai #1!

I have been driving past this place for ages. But it was never open during those times. Here's why: midnight Nerf battles in a neighboring office complex parking lot. Don't ask.

But I decided this time around that I should pay this place a visit during business hours for once. Good decision.

SO GOOD. Amazing tom yum goong. And delicious fish curry. And BBQ beef. And drunken noodles. One of the pluses of coming here with my family is that you get to try lots of stuff.

The service was super friendly and the atmosphere is 100% baller awesome. I love it. And they're so fast!!!

P.S. The bathrooms are super nice. As in would make my Asian mother proud.

I always like to start with the pro's, so here goes: The service is great here. Our waiter, who may be one of the owners, is extremely friendly and is always making jokes. He is very welcoming and even inserted the line: "Stay as long as you'd like" after taking our check. The restaurant space was nice - they had well thought out decor and it was all well placed. They had a combination of tables and chairs and these very mod benches and tables. They even turned the light lower around 7pm ooooh, very romantico.

Now onto the so-so things. The water. When it first arrived it tasted a bit funny - I don't know what the taste was but it didn't taste right. Thankfully as the refills kept coming it started tasting more like normal. The food. I was surprised the food wasn't as good as I had expected. We ordered two dishes: the Panang Kang (I think it was called - it was the red curry with your choice of meat) and the Pad See Ew with Chicken. Both were on the salty side.

The curry was very thick and potent, and usually I love strong curry. Not to mention because of its potency it was a bit on the salty side. The pad see ew was not only on the salty side but the noodles tasted quite rubbery. It was actually a little hard for me to chew them.

Also if it's your first time visiting this restaurant, keep your eyes peeled. It's in a building near other industrial buildings so you may pass it by. If you're coming from Fremont Blvd and you've turned right on Grimmer, it is NOT very funny. Keep your eyes peeled on the left and you'll see it less than a block away from Fremont Blvd - you'll have to make a U turn to get into the parking lot. It's right next to a couple other warehouse-looking buildings. Parking is easy.

Check your bill!

For a period of time, we went there every week because their food is quiet good.  We love the fried fish with basil and soft shell crab.  The waiters are always friendly.  But lately we stop going because they charged every little thing.  For example, we wanted a little more sauce for the fried chicken, and they charged us $0.25 for it (they didn't tell us when we asked for it, they just put it on the bill).  It's like dining in McDonald's!   There are also some other times they just tried charge us whatever they can like rice and hot tea.  I understand that there is nothing free, but charge extra cents to loyal customers just leave bad taste in our mouth.  And we won't go back again.

The food was better the second time around.

I had the Suki Yaki, which was silver noodles with egg, chicken, prawn, suid, spinach, and napa cabbage ($7.95). There is a choice of the preparation in a soup or dry. I chose the dry way. The suki yaki was pretty good! I love the sauce that the noodles were coated in since it was sweet. The noodles were a bit clumpy, but I still devoured it all. The meat portion was skimpy though. There were two pieces each of the squid and prawn. I have no idea where the egg was in the dish. However, the flavors were very tasty!

I also tried my friend's basil fried rice. It was pretty tasty! The dish tastes exactly the same as the Sala Thai restaurant in central Fremont.

The penang curry taste 100x better with the spiciness. I complained last time that it was too sweet for me since there was no spiciness. Yes! I like the dish now.

Service was okay. We saw our waitress once in a while even though we were the only customers in the restaurant around 1:30pm.

I still don't like the backless seats. They aren't comfy at all.

Overall, the experience was better. There was more care and love in the food this time around. It's better to go to this restaurant during the non-peak time periods.

Gratuity is included for parties of 5 or more.

Okay place for Thai food. Reminds me of Thai food that I would have in Davis.

Good things- nice atmosphere and friendly staff.  Fresh ingredients.
Bad- overpriced for small very plain thai food. Pad thai was  small amount noodles w/o much of anything else. Chicken hot pot soup tasted like hot water with chili sauce.  It had a few pieces of chicken, some very tough pieces of lemon grass and that is about it for $10.
There are better Thai restaurants.

I didn't get to write a review the first time I went to this restaurant... but from what I remember, the food tasted better my first time.

I ordered the BBQ Beef plate today. $1.50 the side of rice. The beef was tough and it seemed like something I can make. The place has a gloomy, quiet setting to it so it's probably better to go in at night.  I think the best part of the meal today was the $2.00 Thai iced coffee. Not really worth going.

I do remember the first time coming here, I ordered the pineapple fried rice (with shrimp) and it was pretty good, but again, it's nothing you can't get at any other Thai restaurant. Mehh.
