it's cheaper then pure food and wine which is down the street and it has good stuff!
today i got more food than last time, so i felt the need to update my review.
I got a green juice of - kale, celery, cucumber, lemon apple - for 7 bucks which is the typical price for this juice.
then i got a bowl of vegetable stew! This stew had all sorts of veggies in it, from carrots and potatoes to CACTUS. it was Delish. and they throw in these brown rice balls into the soup. By the time I got home the balls and meddled down to just rice - but still it was cool! The rice is brown and black too, so its super healthy and super tasty.
I also got the raw chocolate chip cookie which was quite filling but not like 'omg i feel sick from processed sugar' filling.
all in all, a hearty meal for a reasonable price of 13 bucks total.
i'm a fan.

Sal Anthony " famous Italian Chef " has gone raw. Came here with my dogs after having some fun in the Mad dog run. Sat outside on the bench and enjoyed a healthy Dagwood Sun Burger, which is a raw double decker veggie burger with avocado, lettuce and tomato on sprouted flat bread. It was scrumptious and reasonably priced at 5.50.
I am deducting a star for the pricey juice bar ..come on, now... 7.50 for a 12 oz when it is 6.00 for 16 oz elsewhere. Yeah, yeah I know it's organic... but I didn't marry rich and have some man's crotch fruit. So my fruit ain't organic...but it's far from conventional.
Hi Ya'll!
This place ROCKS!!! I eat here almost everyday. The food is great, (try the zucchini pasta) and the price is right (you raw foodists know what I am talking about). The staff is also super kind and accommodating. What else could you ask for??
I have never drunk dialed anyone.
I have never sent a drunk text.
I haven't done much activities drunk that I would have not done sober.
But after some time last month, I can no longer say that I have never bought a plant under the influence of alcohol.
I was stumbling out and about around Union Square making reckless turns in an attempt to find the subway when I saw a gigantic water fountain randomly gargling on the curb of 17th street. It was such a sight on a random small street in New York that I immediately stopped. Overhead, three wind chimes of various sizes rang as a light breeze blew. It was all slightly magical.
On the ground floor of the store are the garden supplies (pots of all sizes, some few tools, wind chimes, etc.) and the larger (and woodier) plants. The selection of woody plants (think very small trees) wasn't the biggest I've seen, but what are you going to do in Manhattan? I glanced at the prices, and they were surprisingly low-priced, especially in New York.
But it was in the basement floor where the magic was. At the end of the ground floor, there is a metal spiral staircase that leads to a basement filled with greens. In the small dinky basement with off-white walls, is a miniature jungle with various small plants and flowers sitting in their tiny pots. There are about six or seven rows of various flowers and shrubs of various sizes. I was picking between a bonsai-like plant, a pot of purple flowers, and a small branchy looking thing. I ended picking the last one, because it looked so sad and thus adorable (I was drunk, remember?).
The owner was absolutely amazing. You could from the bat that he was an eccentric fellow who really loved his plants from just the way he'd describe them. He answered all my confused questions with patience and wisdom. From his suggestions, I ended up buying the cute/sad plant which apparently was a coffee plant. I was so excited when he told me that if I take god care of it, it might even produce little beans. And though the plant wasn't in the best condition, it was an amazing steal for $5. And when I called the next day to ask for specific directions on how to take care of the plant, he was patient once again, and even remembered the specific plant I bought and could describe the conditions of the leaves. I thought that was pretty darn amazing.
I'd never thought I'd review a plants store, but I found this place really charming. It gets points for being open so late, having a wide variety of plants even in a cramped New York store, having very competitive prices, and an awesome owner who knows and loves his plants. The only thing I'd have to complain is that some of the plants weren't looking their healthiest.
But seriously, why would you not want to drink at Union Square and then go buy a plant for only $5?
And if you were wondering, no, my coffee plant has not yet made beans. But I did give it a name--Bob the Plant. I'm so original.
Thank you Sal Anthony for creating raw foods that aren't a nut-spice-fat extravaganza! These foods actually showcase the flavor of the veggies & fruits themselves!
Definitely some of the best prices for raw gourmet in the city too! The smoothies are pricier than the food-items.
Bottom line:
Fresh. Simple. Good.
?? maybe 2.5??? but bumped up to three cuz the guy behind the counter was really 'rawie' sweet in a weird untainted innocent way.
I was chomping away on the Dogwood sun burger everyone was raving about and poking around yelp. Much too lazy to write anything because this raw burger takes so many darn chews per bite, my jaw was getting achy but it was tasty and presumably healty so I keep chomping away. Until....oh crap, what is this? At my 2501st chomp of the 5th bite my teeths came down on - a tiny piece of concrete?, a tiny pebble?, a clump of sand? whatever it was it broke into tiny little gritty pieces...
Delimmas... do I continue to eat it?
I was in town from Austin Tx where we do a have a superfood/raw cuisine/organic type juice bar that most people love called Daily Juice, http://www.dailyjuice.org, and I went to Sal Anthony's and was amped. To be able to drink maca, cacao, coconut smoothies and chomp on raw cacao mulberry truffles was perfect considering this type of nutrition ain't on every corner... There is going to be a wave of yeasayers on board when people start to explore how a Menu like this one makes you feel-spend the extra bucks and get more bang...I say that you'se Yanks outta give this place your bizness.
I got my first plant here! Now my apartment has more life. Even hough David S. was in apparent megabitch mode tonight (for no apparent reason) and told me that my beautiful bamboo was tacky, I still love it (which is more than I can say for David S. :-P)! I love plants, more than flowers, since flowers tend to be overpriced and perish easily. The owner is really nice, and appears knowledgeable. And my oh my, is this place affordable or what?! Bonsais for $25! Bamboo arrangements for $20-40 depending on the size, for tabletops and shelves. Large ones for gardens and balconies and such as well. They had everything. I shall be back here to get a bonsai or two for my bedroom, I think.
So me and Arnab walked into this place after leaving Cibar for the Yelp Elite Event andddddd this place is just awesome.. In all honesty, if you need a plant, at like... 10 o'clock at night, for a nice price, then this is your joint. They close at 11pm, their plants are gorgeous, and also incredibly affordable. You'd expect a really pretty, medium sized bonsai plant to be expensive, but this place charges only $25 for one. Comes with a booklet for care, and also the guy that works there is INCREDIBLY informative... He's quirky but he also has the strongest Italian/Brooklyn accent I've ever heard. It's movie like... He kinda sounds like an Italian Woody Allen. Lovely man though...
best orange juice i've ever had! the beet/celery/cayenne was a little bland; needed something...
we also had a really good raw burrito.
as a wise man once said, i'll be baaack.
Delicious raw food for great prices!! Green juice, seed and nut burgers, veggie treats. This cafe(and florist) is a staple for the raw foodist.
