7 reviews for Sakura Nail and Spa
I've been getting manicures religiously for over 10 years now, but I've never been into acrylic. So when I heard of Calgel, what it does and how safe it is for your nails, I jumped on it! While back home for the summer, I came to the new Sakura location for some Japanese Nail Art action. This would be my first experience and I was so excited!!
I booked my appointment and in the mean time stopped by Kinokuniya to pick up some nail art magazines. Nail art is a HUUUUUGE thing in Japan and there are big, thick magazines dedicated to the art. I picked up a few and went home to find the perfect design.
Upon arriving to Sakura, I was promptly greeted and taken back to the pedicure area. I wasn't getting anything special on my toes, but I was in need of a pedi. I decided to go with the special sake pedicure. They use very high quality, drinkable sake and lotion made from rice to sooth dry skin. The pedicure was heavenly. I told Junko they should serve a small glass of the sake with the pedicure. That would be perfect!
Now on to the nails. Since this was my first time getting a Calgel manicure, I wasn't sure how it worked, what colors to get, etc... Junko was very patient and explained the whole deal to me. I showed her the design that I picked out from the magazine and she went to work. 2 hours later (yes, it does take a lot of time), I was all finished and could not stop looking at my nails! They were PERFECT!!!
And almost a month later, they were still blingy and cute. Calgel can get expensive if you go crazy with the designs and bling. Mine came out to around $80 not including tip. But I got 3 Calgel colors (Blue, White and Clear). But since it lasted almost a month, I definitely cannot complain about the price.
I've been getting Calgel done ever since. Who needs a regular old boring manicure when you can get Calgel with art?! I wish they had a location in the Bay Area. I was able to find a great nail tech in Los Gatos who is super talented and keeps up with new nail art trends. (Thanks Linda C.!!!) But we definitely need more nail art techs here.
Mmmmmhmmm girl, I got my nails did! And it ain't no thang!
And really, I don't talk like that in real life...I do, however like to keep the talons and toesies nice and manicured, especially in the summer months. And really, who else would I go to in NY except Sakura? AS IF! Sakura currently has two locations, one in UES and now one in LES/East Village.
I have to say, both locations are equally tiny, but the LES one seems to be millions of times harder to find! It's tucked away on 1st street, easy to miss! This is a new location, which explains the lack of reviews...I dropped in for CalGel on a Saturday night, which was a BIG mistake...they were soooooooo busy!
I was very satisfied though, 2 hours later, after dropping off my 65+tip to Junko at Sakura, I walked out with toes painted with a sick purple custom-colored gel polish with swarovski rhinestones on the big toes...spaaaarkly!!!! :) It's expensive, but I was pleasantly surprised considering that I walked in, but they still took me, and that it cost under $70. AAAAAND, here we are, almost 4 wks later, and still blinging out, and blinding anyone that dares gaze at the awesomeness! :) Junko was also super friendly and nice, suggesting restaurants and taking super care on my pedi even though it was only a single color process with no design. I like!
Definitely splurge on calgel once in a while, you'll totally love it! But beware of getting hooked!
Five stars to the max. :)
Did you ever want Hello Kitty on your nails?
Okay, perhaps only me but did you ever want some sparkles on your nails?
I know I DO!
I always wanted them but back then it was only found in Japan, they are so obsessed with their nails that some people would match every single one of their outfit.
This place can get pricey, since each bling starts at $1.00 but it's worth every penny!
Get your nails done here - just be careful since your own nails will distract you from work.
I go to Junko.
My nails easily get very dry because i use water at work but since i started to get my nails done with Cal gel,
it protects my nails and they got much stronger while looking pretty.
I usually get reverse french with clear at the bottom so even after few weeks it doesn't show much that my nails are growing. It can last 4 weeks !
Junko is so nice and does meticulous job every time I go back.
Very skilled technicians, nice ambiance, good prices (as compared to Valley Nails). I'll definitely return.
I went here after reading great reviews of their location uptown. The place is small, cozy, and peaceful. Everyone there was very kind and helpful as well. They have a great selection of colors, including Essie and an organic line, Priti. I chose a Priti color that I absolutely love. The woman who did my pedicure was very meticulous, which I really appreciated. She did a fantastic job and my toes still look new over a week later. I would definitely go here if you're looking for a place that is friendly and doesn't have that rushed, nail factory feeling. I will definitely be back when I'm ready for another pedicure.
did a girls day for my sister's 40th and it felt like a private salon for us. it was a fixed price for 2.5 hrs (based on the number of girls and techs) and seemed reasonably priced. all the workers are really sweet and professional and they don't jibber jabber noisily amongst each other like most other salons. all of us did mani/pedi and half of us also did waxing. everything was done meticulously. the salon doesn't have that strong nail product smell--i think it has something to do with it being all organic. everyone was very happy with the experience and i'll def be back and maybe try a facial.
