Yelp? Is there a sixth star I can add here??
This is what church is supposed to be like: all sorts of people from all walks of life, forming a supportive community of celebration, action, and contemplation. The first time I walked in, I felt at home. There is a great commitment to good preaching (what? I know, at a Catholic church of all places), good music and liturgy, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for anyone who wants to come. BUT - and I love this - the community also challenges us to reexamine the status quo and not get too comfortable or complacent in the way we live our lives. What would Jesus do, indeed...

St. Agnes is an excellent place to get back your spiritual life back on track or for those practicing Catholics looking for a new home.
The Jesuit-run parish is vibrant and welcoming community for ages 1-92.
Fr. Cameron, the pastor, leads the way with his modern-day thought provoking sermons.
The choir also provides inspiration for the congregation and there are lots of activities that allow you "to dip your toes" into the water and get back into the swing of things with your faith.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to be married at this beautiful church two years ago and many of our guests commented that if they had a church like St. Agnes in their hometown they would go to Mass more often.
I consider St. Agnes a second home.
Do yourself a favor and check out  a mass or two at St. Agnes. The 10:30am and the 6pm on Sunday are more popular masses, but for the early birds there is 8:30am mass as well.

To atone for my sins of late, I thought I might do some good and Yelp for the Big Guy. I was raised Catholic, currently consider myself Agnostic at best, and primarily go to church every few months or so for three very selfish reasons:

1) Crisis situations (GOD PLEASE HELP ME! I AM DESPERATE HERE!)
2) Meditative reasons (too much chaos, need something familiar and ritualistic), and
3) To appease my mother and get her to stop asking me, "Have you been to church recently?"

Saint Agnes is a large, beautiful church with good music (all the standards make me so happy, "And he will raaaise you up on eeeagles' wings").  To say the least, this is a very welcoming (but not too in your face, which I can't stand b/c I like to come and go as I please) parish for us salad-bowl Catholics or the hard core Reconciliation-attending Stations of the Cross types. And hold on to your hats...

They welcome the gay community.

Not to mention they have free breakfast (donuts, muffins, pastries, coffee, juice, etc)  after certain masses - I think Sunday 10:30am. Free food and love for everyone? Maybe there is a God. Yay for the Jesuits!

Saint Agnes is a truly special church. It's a spiritual, holy place that combines Catholic tradition with modern sensibility. As a Jesuit church, it's a place of learning, and the sermons are often timely and relate to real people's problems. There is a consciousness of being situated in the community and in the world. God is part of everything -  including the environment and politics.

Saint Agnes is an inclusive community. People of all races and sexual orientations are welcome here. In fact, I'm sure people of all religions are welcome here, because people are valued and welcome here.

It's nice to see a lot of young families and couples, too. I think Saint Agnes appeals across generations.

I was baptized here! WOOTWOOT! Best SF Parish. Very welcoming and JESUIT (again--wootwoot). Father Cameron Ayers' homilies will have you at the edge of your seat. Rockin tunes. Prime location. What more could you ask for in a House of God.
