This was my first attended Yelp event, and it definitely encouraged me to become a yelper!  The sponsors were friendly & offered some cool drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, but the drink vendors tilted heaviliy in the "non-virgin" variety).

The ice cream there was really good and tasted home made, the cookies were very unique and had me going back for more, and the meat was complimented by some cool sauces (though hard to eat standing up and balancing drinks).

crowd was lively and well dressed, and everyone seemed to be having a good time!

I can see why this website is taking off.

Meat on a stick? Check.
Booze...and lots of it? Check.
Salted oat cookies? Check.
Milkshakes AND a token for a free one later on? CHECK!
Ice cream? Check.
My favorite yelpers? Yep, all here! Though there are a handful of you who I am sad didn't make it...

Did you see me at the event? I was the one probably whacking you in the head with my fish floatie as I walked by. I had a great time catching up with all of you and again, sorry if I hit you with the fish.

I loved the space and that it never felt TOO crowded even though there were a ton of yelpers everywhere! I thought that everything was spread out enough or in corners and nooks that I didn't feel claustrophobic and need to run upstairs for air.

Only Kevin L could pull together so many fantastic sponsors/vendors for another amazing Yelp party. Seriously, the man is amazing! The event was awesome and I am ready for the next one.

And lastly a shout out to my costume-partner-in-crime for the evening, Julie H!

It was great catching up with yelpers yet again!  The amenities were fantastic so massive thanks to Kevin! The mojitos were great, the beer was - and I will stick to this no matter how many people argue me - good for what it was, and the food was delicious!

Where else could I get wine, beer, liquor, dancing, meat, pink lemonade, milkshake, cookies and fun times all under one roof?  I challenge you to tell me!

Thanks so much for everything Kevin! And it was great to SYOY (see you OFF yelp in this case)!

I just devoured a salted oat cookie that I smuggled out of the event like some granny at a country buffet.

Sweet (and salty) memories of yet another fantastic Yelp event! The vendors were plentiful - something to drink for everyone from refreshing lemonade to ginger-infused mojitos to Red Stag Bourbon. And the sweet treats? Gifford's ice cream, Teaism cookies and generous shakes from Z-Burger (plus a token for another one for FREE, thanks Peter!).

Lots of Yelpers, but plenty of room - the perfect venue! It was great, as always seeing Yelpers in the flesh. Some new (Lester K.), some who have been in hiding (Laura V.) and some who are moving away (Becky T.).

Kevin, thank you, thank you, thank you! The event was the bomb! The best part was as I was leaving I stop by to chat with the lady from DC Central Kitchen. She was ecstatic over the generosity of all the yelpers! We pretty much did provide a ton of tuna. As Tina R. would say, "Kewl."

It was a dark and stormy night...

... the bartender was out of ice repeatedly. No worries, I was able to get enough wine-in-plastic-cup while I waited to make up for the lost rum time. The red wine was really awesome, but I was afraid to try the white one after so many people warned me not to.

The cherry shots were pretty sweet, but what's even sweeter is the Yelp! shot glasses we got! Woo! I think Lester K. got 4 or 5 shot glasses on my watch, and who knows how many when I wasn't looking. James L. threw down a few too, but I think he was more interested in the mojitos.

Lester and I decided on an eat-off of Peruvian chicken, where several valiant birds will give their lives and breasts for a noble cause. Maybe Sarah C will show her face to arbitrate!

The chocolate ice cream was RICH and yummy, with big chunks of choco chips and dark coco cream. The raspberry sorbet was OK, but it melted all over me. That was probably my own fault.

I was starving, so I stood in the gigantic line for some meat, but after ten minutes of waiting, I got a shaving of beef, a splinter of turkey and a dab of spicy mayo. All of this stuff was good, but I think Bassey will agree, we wanted more!

Justin looked great in his rope costume, or was that his outfit for after the event?

I was glad to introduce Yeliz to some of my Yelp friends, after so many of my recent reviews are a result of taking her out to eat. See you all again soon!

In the words of Barney---this night was LE-GEN-DAR-Y

10 Reasons You KNOW it is a GREAT Yelp Event :

1)  You get great drinks and food galore all night.  Thanks participating businesses!

2)  You see great yelp friends you love! (I won't dare to name you all, but Sam H and Becky T it was a great way to send you off!)

3) You meet new yelp friends your going to love in the future (Jeremy L your a peach!)

4) People take pictures of your "pirates booty" all night long. (And you know they will end up ALL over the internet)

5)  You try and make out with your yelp friends (Sorry Andrew W)

6) You fight with your yelp friends, or say rude things to people (Sorry Venu N, love you!)

7) You don't go where you expect afterwards.

8)  You don't write you review right after the event because you can't---for whatever reason.

9) You get to donate good protein to a good cause.

10) You can't wait till the next yelp event to do it all again.

One Star.  YELPERS SUCK!  Seriously.  WTF? I get kidnapped by pirates, bound and gagged, and manage to escape to the heritage center only to find that not a one of you will untie me.  A cookie? You offer me a cookie?  NO! I don't want a milkshake, either.  I don't care if it's good. I WANT TO GET OUT OF THESE FREAKING ROPES!

Seriously though, good fun as always.  Kevin, Miriam, (and others) the level of your success with these events continues to reach new levels.  Thanks again!

Oh yelp, I love you. You and me and booze have the greatest ménage à trois ever.

Still had a flippin' awesome time despite the rain before, and even though it was too chilly later in the night for shorts. Must give yet another shout out to Kevin for giving me a chance to represent the alma mater (Georgetown forever!) Collars up! :)

Good food, good booze, great bunch of folk to look at. What more can a girl ask for?

Although, can someone please tell me why we got only a shot of wine? Were we supposed to shoot it? The malbec was pretty spicy for malbec, but what the hey--it was a free shot of wine, I shall not complain.

And I'm glad I finally got to try a salty oat cookie without having to pay for it because if I had, contrary to popular opinion, I'd be pissed. Way too salty for me. (Even R went, "What the hell? Is this a saltlick?")

The meat table was my fave, of course. Nothing like licking flesh off a stick. As I finished my last bite, a short-shorted girl walked by. R asked, "How'd you like it?"

"The meat or that girl's ass?" I asked.

I liked the both quite nice, if you really want to know. ;)

My only problem with the event is that I couldn't sprout a third arm to hold another drink(s). Double fisting all night didn't give me a chance to try some of the other foods, but it's okay. Booze was the priority anyhow.

So good to meet so many of you that I felt like I'd known for ages (here's to you Lester K, Marc H, Cheryl B, Ronnail R, and others)! I can't wait to see you all again!

Great event, Kevin and Miriam!

good times at this very odd, but very cool venue thanks once again to Kevin, Miriam, and those strange powers that be at Yelp (ie. ROTD selection) that mankind may never understand....so many beverages to drink, so many people to harass, and so little time....

i like to break the evening down in the following way:

things i tried succesfully and in moderation: the meats table. good stuff....should have eaten more, but, you know, my hands were full of drinks

things i probably "tried" a bit to much of: vodka. red stag. those horribly sweet shots administered by the ghostbuster-pack-like girls. the wine table. vodka. red stag. vodka. red stag. vodka. red stag.

things that were great to see there, and  i probably should have tried, but didn't (i chalk this failure up to drunkeness, triple fisting, and my own ineptitude...dang it!): mojitos, ice cream, shakes, cookies, tea. mojitos. mojitos. mojitos.

things i absolutely did not want anything to with: MGD 64 (my one complaint with the evening was this grossly inadequate excuse of a "beer")

people i wanted to see and did: a hell of a lot of you and some in elaborate costume...kudos in particular to ropey, breasteye, the float twins, the piratejack, yelppants and the stripe girls...well done!

people i didn't want to see: can't really think of any...

hope to do this again soon....and next time maybe not lose my umbrella AGAIN...i'm 2 for 2 on that recently...sobriety might help, but that is not a trade i'm likely ever to make

In keeping with current trend of movies with disjointed timelines, this review starts with the train ride home from last night's awesome Yelp event.  Lester K, Venu N, Andrew W, and I board a Yellow line train to the L'enfant plaza stop and we are enjoying the after effects of libations we consumed.  The Jim Bean Red Stag Bourbon was quite tasty (if a bit sweet), but was much better than the MGD 64 which tasted like beer flavored water.  Unlike Shawn G, I didn't object so much to the white wine I sipped, but then again I'm not a well schooled California connoisseur like he is.  The mojitos were probably my favorite drink of the night, mainly due to the use of fresh mint.

Lester and I arrive at our stop, bid Venu and Andrew a fond farewell as they continue onto their next adventure, and upon pulling into the Metro Center stop, Jeff W and Michele P board.  So in typical Yelp fashion, our train ride becomes a discussion about food; Jeff and Michele don't like shrimp but love scallops (really?) and I think Plaka Grill is a bit overrated.  We arrive at the Vienna metro stop and disperse into the night, but Lester reminds me that I need to pick the next location for the upcoming June edition of "Lunch with Like Minded People".

The event itself was great as always; who can complain about free food and drinks?  But I think the best part of the evening was chatting with folks and discovering that many Yelpers are members of the armed forces.  Becky T, Sam H, and Tim T are all physicians who will be deployed to military hospitals soon, and of course Jonathan H is Yelp's resident bad-ass Marine (but he's a super nice guy in person).  Excellent venue choice to host this event as a way to honor and respect the men and women who serve our country.

Big shout out to the ZBurger folks giving away tokens for free stuff.  We might have to put together a UYE just to cash those in.

Big shout-out to the ginger mojito booth people.  While the mojitos reminded me of herbal soap, the generous pour left me blushing the rest of the night.

Big shout-out to DC Central Kitchen.  Great cause - I'm more than happy to contribute to it.

Big shout-out to all the Yelpers, old and new, who came out.  Had a blast with you all as usual and can't wait for more fun times in the future.

Big shout-out to Kevin L., Miriam W. and all the other Yelp worker bees for putting together this fabulous event.  Awesome party as usual.

An especially big shout-out to the Naval Heritage Center and the event coordinator/museum curator biting his nails as we Yelp/tear up his precious museum.  It's a great space with interesting artifacts to look at while waiting for awesome (and free) protein/carbs/dairy/fruits/alcohol/essential party food groups.

AWESOME!!!!!
(1) Getting first dibs on everything as Elite
(2) Finally meeting old and new Yelpers
(3) Red Stag Black Cherry flavored bourbon
(4) ZBurger milkshakes, but man those samples were huge!!!!

I can't say this event is "As good as it gets"....the Election Day Party set a terrible precedence by setting the bar astronomically high....but I can definitely say it was an awesome event. Sailor hats off to the organizers and sponsers of this event.

My dinner last night consisted of two milkshakes (cremesicle and chocolate malt) from the z-burger table, some meat on a stick and a salty oat cookie, washed down with various beverages (MGD 64--aka water, honest tea, pomegranate lemonade, a ginger mojito and of course a shot of black cherry infused jim beam).

I've had the bad luck of constantly being out of town for Yelp events, so I was so excited I was able to make this one.  The venue was great, though a little crowded and hot near the end of the night, but it was really fun.  The food and drinks were great. All the fellow yelpers were fabulous.   Overall I just had a really fun time.  And I got a Yelp shot glass to add to my collection.  Awesome!

Thanks for organizing, Kevin!

This was my first large-scale, official Yelp event and thanks to some outstanding work/planning by Kevin L. It was a resounding success.

It's an interesting experience, looking out over a crowd of vaguely familiar faces (some more than most) and finally being able to strike up conversations with those whose culinary exploits you've been following here on the intertubes.

There were plenty of sponsors/promoters out on the floor hawking all kinds of interesting wares.  The cherry bourbon wasn't bad, although it tastes an awful lot like a hangover if you were to make a night of it.  I learned that MGD 64 has fewer calories than a banana, and that if you open a bottle of "Non Stop" Vodka, the party "doesn't stop", which is useful information.  The ghost-buster-like shot girls w/ backpacks full of alcohol offered a steady supply of their premixed cocktails. Truthfully though, Teaism's salty oatmeal cookies are what initially sold me on the event.

The music and photo-ops provided some great non-food-related entertainment, and I even took advantage of a brief (and rare) opportunity to break it down on the dance floor (thanks, bourbon!).

Great event, Kevin and Miriam - I'm looking forward to the next one!

Fantastic planning by Kevin L! This event went smoothly in spite of the accomodations for the rain.  Huge crowd yet the space never felt overcrowded.  The sponsors were numerous enough and spread out so well that there never was too much of a line for anything.

The yelpers themselves are always the biggest highlight of these events.  Last night the costumed folks made the evening that much better.

I can't write a review without commenting on my smores milkshake from Zburger.  Seriously, if you go to Zburger, you have to try it.  I shared this shake with several others who all agreed it tasted amazing.  Overall, all the sponsored giveaways were great.

Finally, the music was well done and accomodated crazy dancing with a tied-up captive.  Thank you, Kevin and Miriam for planning such a fun event!

As usual, another great Yelp event.  Loved the ginger mojitos, courtesy of..... um.... yea i dont remember.... but it was good.

Honestly, I didnt have much of a chance to take a look at all the Navy memorabilia but from what I did see it was definitely a neat little place to visit.

Gotta love Alicia's fish floatie... haha, good stuff.

WOW!  Great event!  This was my first one in a LOOONG time and now I remember why the Yelp events are so awesome.  They're always innovative (I never would have thunk to have an event at the Naval Center - SO COOL), full of fun libations and food, and crowded with fantastic people.  Oh how I've missed them.  Thanks to Kevin and Miriam and the rest of the Yelp crew for an amazing night (and a wonderful reminder of what makes Yelp great).

So I wondered - beer and ice cream?  Would that be a problem?  How about Ginger Mojitos followed by a chocolate malt?  Well who the heck cares!  I've had ice cream for dinner before and I sure as heck did it again.  How about some Giffords with a Z-Burger shake chaser?  Awesome!

Great libations, great snacks, wonderful location, fun music, a chance to see my old Yelp friends and make some new ones...5 stars all around.

Who likes fruity whiskey? I do! I do! I am not the biggest whiskey fan and while this may lose me points with true whiskey drinkers I think this may be my gateway into a new brown liquor. No more Alize and Hennessey for me. I'll take this stuff on the rocks. (Joke. Thug Passion is sooo 90's.)

This was a great event. Those salty oat cookies from Teaism are one of my favorites and I'm mad that I didn't finagle may way in earlier so that I could really enjoy the other booths. I was able to meet a few new folks and say good bye to one I had the pleasure of meeting before (Bye Becky! See you in Hawaii!). I really look forward to more events like this. You all sure know how to have a good time.

I thought about giving this event four stars for the three times the person working at the MGD 64 table told me that there was only one weight watchers point in a their beer, but then i got a free M&M milkshake, which is way more points (not that i asked or cared!) and worth way more stars!

This event was yet another perfect event (like breadsoda).  Not ridiculously crowded, plenty of beer, food and drinks.  The fact that i was able to get meet at 945 is clutch.  My only complaint was that Julie and I were unable to steal a bottle of wine.  Oh and whoever thought of salted oat cookies???   If i want a cookie i want a cookie!   But at least i established something i didn't like!

I'm sure this would have been even more amazing had it been outside, but i think it was pretty darn awesome.  Thanks Kevin for just being you!

You know you need a hiatus from Yelp when you stumble home from an OYE, fall asleep and dream of talking to Alicia G. about how you're going to review the event the next day.

Where to begin... well, the soiree was mind-boggling! So many drinks, not enough hands. In fact, there may have been TOO many drinks... the line for the (delicious, delicious) meat was out the door at points in the evening, and my +1 left me after an hour because she had foolishly pre-gamed and couldn't take any more (to be fair, we had about four drinks in the first 15 minutes, which is a no-no according to those instructional videos we used to watch in health class).

I talked to the DC Central Kitchen lady before I joined the fray, and she was so grateful for the cans we donated -- I love that Yelp partnered up for a great cause! My only regret is that I paid almost no attention to my surroundings -- I feel like I missed out on an opportunity to explore the heritage center. It might be better to return when I'm not regretting chasing a mojito, an alabama slammer and cherry infused bourbon with a raspberry chocolate shake, in any case. Oof.

You had me at Giffords!!!

After a couple of false starts I finally made it to my first Elite event for the Sail Away at the Naval Heritage Center in DC.  I swore nothing would keep me from getting there...not rain, lightning, traffic or the ever so long trek from Round Hill, VA!

What I truly loved about this event was that it benefited the DC Kitchen.  If you haven't volunteered there yet....get yourself involved people!!!  I was very happy to see that they were accepting cash donations, mainly because I just didn't think a can of tuna was enough, so my sailor's cap is off for being allowed to open my wallet to this organization.

Ok, the event....every nook and cranny had a "libation station" - from vitamin water to MGD 64 to shots of Red Stag  Bourbon (bonus, Yelp Shot glasses), mojitos, wine and vodka punches....I tried 'em all!

Food - there was roasted meats on a stick with a variety of flavored mayos and sauces - would have been nice if the meat slices had been served on small rolls folks....something to help soak up the booze, eh?!  Awesome Teasim salted oatmeal cookies....I could have filled my purse with those, and wish I had!  Lets get to the heart of the offerings for me...Giffords Ice Cream (O M G, since I was a tot and used to visit the location in Bailey's Cross Roads where my gramma worked I've loved the rum raisin, and there it was in all its glory - thank you thank you thank you for the treat but more for the rush of great memories associated with it!

What was the most fun was seeing all the Yelpers I've "friended" or who have "friended" me since becoming part of this great community of reviewers.   Chris and Brandon...you two rock (as usual)  Alicia G...loved the floatie!  James L...great to see you again!  Kevin...you handsome sailor you!  So many name tags to read and say Hey, love your reviews...and great to finally meet you!!

Fun event, plentiful drinks...need more food please :)  We ended up around the corner, you guessed it - at Cafe Atlantico - before toddling to our car and making the long drive back to the burbs.  Already looking forward to the next event.................................

I had a good time...although I think I would have had a better time with a friend accompaning me...it's harder to talk to people by yourself. So alas, no new friends for me.

The food/drink combo was fantastic, but the MGD girls COULD NOT pour a beer without half of the cup filled with foam! Come on now...step it up ladies...learn to pour!

Next time I'll be sure to talk to more yelpers!

All I can say right now is that YELP IS AWESOME!!!

I had to leave a little early to say farewell to my girlfriend's mom who was heading back to Germany, but on the drunken way up to Van Ness I introduced a Charlotte transplant to http://Yelp.com while still rocking my wristband and name tag!

Apparently it's not just Yelp that thinks I'm special because one of my neighbors said "Nice nametag" as I passed him in the hallway.

That vodka got me good!

THIS WAS FUN!  I haven't been invited to many events yet in town b/c I'm new here, but I was so glad to have attended.  It was a very eclectic group of peeps.  Loved the fact that everything was FREE!  It was in a great location, they offered alchy, non-alchy drinks, dessert (cookies, shakes, ice cream), meat, and great music.  And on top of it all you were helping a good cause!!

I would definately love to attend another yelp event and I'm soo happy to have actually joined yelp (even though I've been using Yelp for the past 2 years).  I never realized that Yelp had put together events like this.  And I really feel like this is a great oppurtunity for people to network and really get to know "what's up" in their community.

So Thanks again YELP for making a stranger feel right at home =)...JOB WELL DONE!!

HUGE five stars for this one!  Had so much fun and the vendors did a really amazing job.  Did anyone try that 72% dark chocolate chocolate chip ice cream from Gifford's!?  HOOOOOOOO!  So good.  Might have to have that for breakfast next week when they do ice cream for breakfast from 9-12 everyday!

The exhibit on the Sea Bees was really interesting too.  Such a great chance to enjoy some drinks, friends AND learn about the Navy!

That event was blast - my hubby and I danced with everyone until it was damn near over. We both were sleep deprived because we just returned from Hawaii and the flight was a killer.

I really needed that extra energy, along with all the free samplers (cookies, milkshake, lemon drops, wine and the variety of meat on a stink - wink !!!. I was so hungry I forgot what was what), but any-hew it was great to see everyone and as long as I lived in Washington, DC I never knew that place existed, location for catching the metro rail.......Thanks Kevin and everyone who were part of the planning committee.

Thanks to Kevin et al for a very entertaining evening!  I'm already planning to hit some of the sponsors this weekend for lunch and dessert.  Always a pleasure to meet up with fellow yelpers and help match an actual face to the names.  SYOY!

great Venue. great food.  nice costumes.  I wasn't brave enough to get all decked out with the sailing theme, but it was great seeing others do so.

props to the vendors for passing out free drinks, ice cream, alcohol, cookies, shakes, etc.  Z-burger....you just made a fan outta me.

the only minor issue (although not enough to take off a star) was that the air conditioning system was lacking at the facility.  after 8pm, when hoards of people started coming in, it got a little stuffy and congested.

great meeting yelpers i had not met before, and seeing yelpers i already knew....

PS...my +1 friend, who's a newbie to Yelp asked "whens the next Yelp event?" so i take that as you did a great job Kevin....

Wow, I had so much fun and the room is still spinning.... I loved the non Stop Vodka, black cherry burbon, and malbec from Argentina.  The different carved meats from Jackson Roasting Company were amazing!   The salted oatmeal cookies from Teasim were really nice too.  I love Teaism!  I had so much fun and so did my plus 1.  It was really great and the venue was really nice.  I really liked the music too.  I had a lot of fun dancing and posing for photos.  What a blast!  Merci bien a tous!

I had really fun time at Sail Away with Yelp. The Naval Heritage Center was nice and spacious. Plenty of room to walk around and mingle. I enjoyed the mojitos and the bourbon and coke, but wasn't a fan of the Miller 64 beer. They had trouble giving away that beer. I met some familiar yelpers and some new ones. The event's maritime theme was perfect for late spring.

This was an awesome event! It was my first YELP event, and I can not wait to attend more! I go to work parties/events all the time - in SF, NY and London - this blew all those away.  I thought the vendors were fantastic, everyone was so friendly and it was a pretty special venue.  Thanks to all who organised it!

I had been to the Naval Center about a week before and thought it was a cool space.  It was even better done up by the yelp crew!  I met the guy from Teaism in line for mojitos and he kept me in good supply of oat cookies throughout the night.  I liked the ginger mojitos, but by far my favorite of the night was the Red Stag.  It's been a while since I swilled so much bourbon.  After making the rounds of the MGD 64 (only 2.9% abv people!  that's why it has so few calories, it has so little alcohol!  they don't even have to change it for Utah!) and nearly getting diabetes from the dekyuper girls we swung by the wine bar.  Note to self, avoid that wine in all forms.  The white was supremely unpalatable, and the red was only slightly better.  Thanks for the crack on my wine snobbery James L!  Wandering around, we found that there was even more to be had behind the stairs.  The vodka I could live without, and what exactly is the Russian Technology they use to distill it?  Aside from my disgruntled views of some of the beverages, I had a great time enjoying the mojitos, cookies and bourbon.  Great job Kevin!
