Is it authentic? Well, not being Vietnamese, I've no clue. But I can tell you that everything I've had there has been tasty, and in general the price is most definately right - pretty much everything that's not a special is less than $10. And in contrast to Cameo's review, the chicken in my coconut chicken was all nice tender white meat.
And as far as I'm concerned, something that's yummy and cheap is good enough for me when I'm hungry. Know what I mean, Vern?
Honestly, I wouldn't waste my time. I looked at this place for four years before I found a decent review on SF Gate (before I found Yelp) and was convinced to go. Bad move- greasy, grizzly, unidentifiable (if I didn't know what it was already) meat. I give it two stars only because the service was very cordial and quick and the prices are cheap, cheap. Now I know why.
I lived above this restaurant for two years and still can not deal with the smell of lemon grass.
Saigon Saigon, the city of my birth multiplied by two. Saigon also happens to be a city filled with culinary delights as various and multi-cultural as the choices available in San Francisco. But the one cuisine in Saigon that trumps all is good old Vietnamese food. That's why, when I spotted Saigon Saigon with its yellow banner while cruising down Valencia, I was so deeply intrigued. Unlike most Vietnamese joints, Saigon Saigon is somewhat tastefully furnished with fresh floral arrangements and some colorful wall hangings. The service is excellent albeit a little on the chilly side. But when it comes to Vietnamese food, I'm afraid Saigon Saigon didn't impress me. Read more on The Ballyhoo: http://www.ballyhoo.us...
I've been here a couple times. It's not authentic Vietnamese food though. The food is average, priced reasonably and the service is friendly. I personally like the hot & sour seafood soup and their garlic crab (when in season). Located in a nice area, although parking can be frustrating at times.
we did their dinner set meal, which was not bad and good value. but overall i feel the food is fairly standard and it's just okay. ambience is fairly bland as well. i am not surprised it is closed... (i feel so mean to say it but it is true!)
