After reading the reviews on here my hubby and I decided to give this place a try. We both love Asian food and are always on the lookout for a new place to add to our "go to" list. The outside is rundown. This place really has no curb appeal, but once you step inside I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The dining room is modern Asian and the walls are pained a deep red.
We started our meal with the Saigon's Appetizer Combo it included
Fried Spring Roll: it was crispy and not at all oily the Peanut Sauce is amazing
Fresh Spring Roll: fresh and vibrant, rice noodles, shrimp, and mint wrapped in clear tapioca paper
Fried Chicken Wings: very crispy but also very bland
Grilled Lemon Chicken: highlight of the meal lemony, with black pepper and garlic grilled to perfection
Fried Wonton: Crispy and it was not greasy.

For my entree I ordered the Saigon Noodle Soup w/Shrimp & Pork. The large bowl of rice noodles was served with a flavorful chicken broth as well as large sweet shrimp and thinly sliced BBQ pork. The noodles were the vermicelli not the traditional Pho noodles. The waitress also brought a plate with lemon, cilantro ,and bean sprouts as well as some hoisin and sriracha so I could flavor the broth to my liking.
My husband ordered the Egg Noodle Soup Combination. His noodle bowl was the same as mine except the noodles were ramen and he also had imitation crab meat along with the shrimp and pork.
The service was attentive and pleasant. I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again.

We were craving some Vietnamese but wanted to try something other than our regular places so we called up Yelp and saw some good things about Saigon Cuisine - so off we went!  It didn't hurt that we had a $12 off coupon from the local Attractions book ;-)

We both generally liked our experience and are likely to return but we didn't get the 5-star treatment several other reviewers documented.

We we arrived about 5:30 on a Wednesday we were the only table though there was one person waiting for a pick-up.  Right as we were about to leave 4 top also entered but that was the extent of the patronage.

Food: The menu is similar to most restaurants of this style with tons of choices.  As is typical most are just a variance on the theme of what protein is involved (i.e. fish, chicken, beef, pork, etc) and what noodle is ti paired with (vermicelli, egg and so on).  So once you boil it down its not that overwhelming.  They do offer several types of spring rolls and grilled fish specials which is a little unique.  There is also about a dozen "Chef's Recommendations" too.

Interestingly for a Vietnamese restaurant, there is basically no Pho choices.  I'm not even sure how I feel about that - it's like a steakhouse without steaks.  The lunch menu has just 4 items so I don't know how they handle that.

We started with a traditional spring roll as an appetizer.  It was served promptly and looked delicious but it was served only with peanut sauce.  I'm used to (and prefer) my springs rolls to be served with the spicy chile oil, as well.  We asked our waitress for some and for Sriracha, as well.  She quickly returned with the chile oil but we had to fetch our own Sriracha.  Once we got all of our loved condiments we dug into the spring roll and it was as tasty as it looked!  In fact it was one of the better ones I've had in awhile.

For our entrees, my girlfriend had the Chicken Sauteed in Ginger Sauce in a Clay Pot and I got the Vermicelli w/Lemon Grass and Curry Chicken.  Wow - on the chicken/ginger/clay pot combo!  I'm jealous I didn't go with it and it's what I will order next time.  My curry was tasty too but very different than other curries I've had.  Rather than being a liquid-soupy style, this curry was thick and coated the chicken a vegetables.  While different it was still good.

The menu lists both items as "hot & spicy" and we both asked for them to be spicy but neither were so if you like spicy food like we do, you'll definitely have to stress that.

One other thing: when served neither came with chop sticks and we had to ask for those too.  At this point I was beginning to get the feeling that the staff must be assuming something along the lines of "these anglos aren't going to know anything about Asian dining".  Fail.

All three items we ordered were very good, especially the spring rolls and the clay pot ginger chicken.  4 stars for food though no Pho is a bummer.

Service: This is definitely and area where they were not even close to earning 5 stars.  While friendly and polite, the service was pretty weak for a one table night.  In fact, there were as many servers as guests for the entire time we were there.  Having to ask for the common condiments for the food style and the traditional eating utensils is tacky.  The servers made only one mid-dinner visit to check on us and even then didn't acknowledge that my beer was almost empty and offer another.  2 stars for service since they weren't rude and the kitchen was super-fast.

Value: Our two entrees were about $11 each and the spring roll $4.25.  Most entrees are in the $10-$12 range with a few above $15 off the Recommendation category.  Overall, the prices are probably a tad higher than some of their competitors but I'll give value 3 stars due to the food's flavor.

Atmosphere: Located on High Point road it has some of the down-trodden external looks typical of the area.  However, the inside is nicely done in a modern Asian theme.  I wouldn't let the outside dissaude you.  3 stars for atmosphere:

Overall, we both enjoyed our meals flavor-wise even though the service was underwhelming.  The restaurant is attractive inside and I'm sure we'll be back but it didn't dislodge our preferred Vietnamese haunts (Pho Hien Vuong and Vietnamese Garden).

    Food: 8/10; Service: 6/10; Value: 6/10 (8/10 w/the coupon); Atmosphere: 7/10

I've been going to this restaurant since they first opened next to the old hotdog joint and Duckie (when he was still there) brought out almost the entire menu for us to try.  He used to roam each seat making sure everyone was happy and humming his tunes.  This family run restaurant hasn't faltered and from day one we fell in love - even though I have moved far away my family knows that a stop (at least one!) is a given on any trip home.  The Spring Rolls and peanut sauce cant be beat, in fact no vietnamese restaurant in the greater NYC area has been able to do so (and I have searched in vain all over chinatown!!)  Everything from the bo-luc-lak to the curry is tasty and filling.  Anything with vermicelli and Saigon's touch is magic.  I just wish I could go every week!!!

Best Vietnamese food in the Triad.

I started eating here years ago and continue to do so. I just can't get off the bowl!

Seriously, the appetizers are all good, the wine list is very broad and the server can match up a good vintage with whatever thing you picked off the menu.

Do yourself a favor, try the place out.

Conde Nast rates this restaurant as one of the top 100 restaurants in the country.   I think they're right.  this place is special.  the food is always prepared fresh and full of flavor.  My wife's sister turned us on to this place years ago before they expanded their dining room.  She liked to go there because it was inexpensive.  You would be hard pressed to find a better dinner at twice the price.  The service is good, albeit not the best.  The whole flounder in chili sauce is one of my favorites, but I have tried so many of the other offerings that I can say that whatever you order, you will enjoy tremendously.  Be sure to try the spring roll appetizer and finish your evening with the Vietnamese Coffee!

This is the restaurant that I chose to propose to my wife.

When you go, say hey to Duckie!

It's just not what it used to be.

    There's a reason for that.

They expanded a few years back, and while their bun dishes are still good (still not like the old days), their pho went down the drain. Quality isn't what it used to be; portions were smaller.

I miss the old Saigon before they took over Sally's (Not so much Ducky's singing, ha!). Back then I didn't care whether I had to wait an hour to eat because there were only about 10 tables, and everyone wanted to eat there.

I haven't been as of late, but this review is based off my few attempts after their renovation. Maybe I went on nights when the owner's brother wasn't cooking (back in the day, he was the only cook if I recall). *Sigh*

Still one of the top spots to eat in Greensboro.  We love the fresh spring rolls and my husband always orders their specialty "flounder"...The different sauces are amazing...and their food is fresh.  We are never disappointed on the quality of the food.

The place is poorly lighted. The food is ok. I wasn't a fan of the thin noodles; however, the rice was better. Overall, it's a decent place.

Quiet simple atmosphere with ambient lighting and warm colors. It's not fancy by any means but the space is clean and not overdone. Classical music. Kind, polite staff. Wine, beer and sake. Small lunch specials menu but overall menu has many options to choose from. The chairs are 80's style & the tablecloths look a little tired. My lunch special was really quite average. It was spicy & fresh but definitely not 5 stars. A strange blend of peanut, lemongrass and curry just didn't work for me as a flavor combination.

This place has such good food, I want to cry. I really don't know what else to say about it. The location sucks. The parking lot is smaller than my palm, and I would like to see them change the table layout. But I really like the food here. It's a rarity for this area.

Best Vietnamese restaurant in the Greensboro area, and I've been to a few. Whenever I'm near Four Seasons Mall I stop here.

Get the spring rolls, and for the love of all that is HOLY get the peanut sauce which is pure joy and happiness in a bowl. You can also get takeout containers of it.

4.5 Stars based on great food. Fresh and tasty! I read some poor reviews on Google, complaints that they give you a fork instead of chopsticks. Well..just ask for chopsticks. Expensive? Not really, you get what you pay for. It could get more expensive with appetizers and drinks, but overall it seemed reasonable.  Also the exterior building looks run down. True, but the inside has a intimate, candle burning, soup simmering smell, and landmark feel. I bet a lot of noodles have passed through those kitchen doors over the years, and declicious ones at that.
