Sahara Restaurant may very well be my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in Toledo. Lest this place goes unnoticed, it is located in the same strip mall as Biggby and Barry Bagels but around the corner tucked to the side.

My family and I stopped in for a late dinner but by no means did we feel as though we were rushed. Entrees ordered include the chicken kabobs, steak and shrimp combo, and the chicken and kafta special of the day with hummus as sides all around. Creamy with a good amount of lemon and a hint of garlic, the hummus proved to be an instant winner. Pita and chips were gone in an instant but were immediately restocked. My chicken kabobs were phenomenal, and I savored every bite of the juicy and tender cubes. I stole a bite of the kafta, which was equally flavorful and delicious.

No frills and downright homey, the only drawback to SR is the fact that it closes at 9pm, which is definitely earlier than most places in the area. Service was pleasant and attentive -- something I'm always appreciative of. As mentioned by other reviewers, there are plenty of entrees to choose from; as a first-time goer, I found the menu rather daunting. However, there are platter options that I may opt for the next time I find myself (and my party) sitting at one of the comfy booths inside SR.

MMmmmm. Delish.  I was visiting BGSU for grad school and my wonderful guide drove me up to Sahara when I mentioned I love med food.  The hummus was absolutely delicious-- lots of lemon in it, my guide said it was a lot better than the last time, so perhaps they're working out the kinks.

I recommend going for the platters on the back-- great selection, huge portions, and good price. I had some lentil soup, which was way better than I would have expected. We also had kabobs, which were wonderful.  We all ate until we were blue in the face, and then kept eating because it was so good.  if ONLY we hadn't forgotten our leftovers!

The waitress was very nice and accommodating.  I just wish they had some more traditional greek food like a mousakka.

This is a small store-front Mediterranean restaurant that reminds me of The Grape Leaf Diner.  In fact, when I moved work locations from Holland to Maumee, I thought I'd miss Grape Leaf a lot, but as it turns out, Sahara is a very nice substitute.  (Just for the record, I still like Grape Leaf more though.)

For starters, the hummus is just great, and they bring out pita and deep fried pita chips to go with it.  The kabob and chicken shawarma are my favorite; they get the seasoning just right.  The rice is especially good, and I have even asked for a double order because I enjoy it that much.  How weird is that?

If you are coming here with friends and Med food isn't your thing, don't worry; they got you covered.  The burgers are really, really good here as well.  If you're feeling especially American, get the double cheeseburger.  It is epic.  They come with seasoned potato wedges which aren't bad at all.

Service has always been really friendly, and don't forget to print out coupons from their website!
