Though my favorite Ghanaian food is comfortably in DC I let my friends drag me out to Hyatsville to try what was described as superior Ghanaian food....

So the first problem is the distance.  We sit down (about 18 or so of us end up there I think) and wait a LONG time for service (to be expected to be in true West African spirit).  Once the waitress comes to take our orders we find out there is only one soup available!!  That's a travesty in Ghanaian dining, in my opinion!  So since there are no rice balls or ground nut stew I go for the egushi with chicken and jollof.  The egushi was really good, but too oily.  The jollof was decent, but I would have preferred rice balls.  I tasted some others and it was all good.  Their meat leaves a little to be desired also. I got three small pieces of chicken, the first one was ALL bone, no meat, the second one had a decent amount of meat and the third a medium amount.  But please don't serve me a bone and call it chicken!!

But good enough to warrant having limited options and being really far away?  I don't think so.  Bring back the Ghana buffet at Akosombo I want all my choices!

Also, the music was way too loud... again reminiscent of Ghana itself, but not for a restaurant!  However, at the end of the night one of the Ghanaians with us said that this was his favorite out of the other Ghanaian places in the area.  So let that say what it will.

Don't be fooled by the name into thinking that this place is Moroccan or something.  This place makes good Ghanaian food.  Best Ghanaian I've had outside of West Africa.  I was there on a Sunday with a handful of friends, many of whom have lived in Ghana, and we were all very impressed.

Different people had different things and nobody was disappointed.  I had the fufu and light soup(my favorite).  Great soup!  Came out hot and fresh and very spicy as it should be.  Great portion size too.  I had trouble finishing it and I can eat fufu like it's my job.  Next time I want to introduce somebody to Ghanaian food, this is where I'm going.  Eyede Paaaa.

I've only actually dined in here a few times, but I've ordered out more times than I care to remember.  I love the fish (tilapia, I think), okra soup (just like the south), the crab soup (available only on certain days), the waakye (black-eyed peas) and that's about it.  The peanut soup is okay, and I've had better egusi & spinach, but still very tasty and filling.
