Saffron gets 5 stars from me for three reasons:

    1. DELICIOUS foods
    2. Reasonable prices
    3. THEY DELIVER!

My husband and I wanted to order in last week but we couldn't decide what to get. Pizza, meh. Thai food is good but we just had that. I don't like Chinese food. What to do???

We got on GrubHub and learned an amazing fact: Saffron delivers!

Within an hour, a pile of butter chicken, paneer tikka masala, tadka dal, naan and rice was delivered to our door for under $40. We had tons of food- more than enough left for lunch the next day and then some, and it was all delicious!

The paneer tikka was full of delicious chunks of cheese. The naan was soft and delicious. AND THE BUTTER CHICKEN. O-M-G, Saffron's butter chicken is the best ever! It has amazing amounts of flavor and even a little spice in what is usually a mild, sometimes boring dish. It was so, so tasty!

Everything we had was fresh and delicious and I can't wait to have it again, either at home or in the restaurant!

Checked this place out on a Sunday afternoon for the lunch buffet and came out satisfied.  I thought it was a little strange that we were the only people when we arrived and nobody else came in while we ate either but I didn't mind having a nice quiet meal.

I'm still a noob to Indian food but I felt that we received fairly what we paid for. $8.99 for a small table buffet was enough to satiate my appetite for some Indian heat.  The naan was brought out to us fresh and hot and I had no complaints about anything that was out on the buffet table.  Even thought the selection was comparatively small to a true buffet style restaurant, I wasn't really disappointed in the variety.  Some of the chicken dishes were a little bit dry but it was sort of expected because a buffet has to constantly keep the food hot which will end up drying out the meat.

I like spicy food so I was not disappointed with the level of spice Saffron provided and left a full and happy customer.  If you're looking to quench a quick Indian craving, this is the place to do it in the Schaumburg area.  Just remember that if you opt for the buffet then expect buffet quality.

I did not like this place at all. Went there on a Sunday for the lunch buffet. It was pretty warm inside on a summer day too.

I tried almost everything there which was a small limited selection. Nothing tasted even mediocre. It was either too spicy to have any other flavors or just not yummy. I thought at least get the naan right but even that was just dry and not flaky enough for my liking. Even Flat Top Grill had better naan and that's not even an Indian restaurant.

I have tried better Indian restaurants.

I catered from here for a birthday party and I was very pleased with everything overall.  They had everything I wanted, food was fresh and tasted great.  Their samosas were wonderful and really big as well.  In my opinion very well-priced too!

Butter chicken was absolutely delicious but for ordering mild it was extremely spicy. Not inedible but def burned my mouth!! The chicken byrani was terrible. Greasy rice with two hunks of boiled dark meat chicken pieces. Not fresh at all. The naan was okay but not great- overall just ok. I'm not too into fusion so probably won't be back. Our server was adorable though! Seemed a bit young to serve beer but his smile and charm had my friend and I overtipping :-)

I love the food from here. I've ordered food twice and both times the food was ready promptly, the service was friendly, and the food was reasonably priced in addition to being DELICIOUS.

I've tried the lamburger, aloo+chicken samosas, butter chicken, tandori chicken, and garlic nan.

All awesome but the stand out is the lamburger.

This is where I'll be going to get my indian food fix. Give it a try

Had a http://restaurant.com coupon for this place and I'm glad we came to check it out!

    We ordered the:
Paneer tehelka: paneer, garlic, onions, jalepenos. This one was great. watch out for the jalepenos though. This is like a pizza, but on a naan.

Paneer masti: paneer, onions, and tomatoes. This one was good too, but I like the other naan-izza better

Masala fries.....OMG! This was the best part of the whole dinner! sooooo soooo good and a definite steal for 3 bucks! This is a must try!

They also have a small selection of beers if you want like the Taj and kingfisher and others.

I had high hopes for Saffron, especially from many of the reviews I read here on Yelp and the fact that I had a Groupon to try it out. Unfortunately, all hopes I had left when I walked into Saffron.

The place was absolutely dead, which is fine for 8PM on a Thursday. But the blaring Indian pop music (plus big screens with the music videos) was just excessive. The music was loud enough where even though the place was empty I was still raising my voice to talk to the person across from me. On top of that, there air conditioner wasn't on, so we had a huge, loud industrial fan blowing on us. So much for the half hour I spent on my hair.

The waiter was a bit rude when we first sat down. I understand that I'm not Indian, but I felt my intelligence was a bit insulted when he assumed me and my friend knew absolutely nothing about Indian and had never tried it.

We ended up ordering samosas, naan, tandoori chicken tikka, and the tandoori chicken naan-izza (naan + pizza). The only thing that tasted good was the chicken tikka. It was amazingly moist, juicy, and seasoned perfectly (sans the signature redish color). Everything else just fell flat. The only thing really dissapointing about it was the fact that they charged an extra $3 for some white rice. No thanks!

The samosas were fine, but the cilantro chutney was pure water, and they were very small for the price. The naan was too crunchy and too flaky. The naan-izza may have been the biggest disappointment of all. I would compare it to a frozen Tombstone pizza that you buy at Dominick's at $1.23 a box. It tasted like it had been frozen at one point and the chicken on it was certainly not tandoori, it was just bland chunks of chicken. On top of that, no cilantro, just chicken and some undercooked tomatoes. We also ordered coke and to our disappointment the coke was just room-temperature cans. Obviously no refills.

Our bill came out to about $26 and if I didn't have the Groupon I'd be pretty upset about the cost in relation to the quality. Until Saffron looks at their negative reviews on Yelp and sees how to drastically improve their operations and their food, I'll be sticking to other and better Indian places.

My boyfriend and I came into this establishment on a rainy day, excited for warm food and a comfortable atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was FREEZING inside (it seems like the place isn't well insulated), so we had to eat in our jackets the entire dinner. This did not make me happy.

The service was okay. The guy who greeted us and then became our waiter wasn't very friendly and didn't really check with us a lot.

The food was pretty good. I asked for it to be a little more spicy than usual, and I got a realllllly spicy dish full of cut up, small hot peppers (so I couldn't really fish them out). I got the malai kofta and my boyfriend got the chicken masala. He really enjoyed his food. I think mine was good--in between the gulps of water and my burning mouth. I took most of it home as left overs and mixed the rest of it with ample amounts of rice and it tasted much better.

The price is pretty good. We ordered samosas (really good), two orders of naan, some rotis and white rice. This was more than enough in addition to our two entrees. I think we had like 3 individual pieces of naan left over, and we are big naan eaters.

overall, it is a nice place. next time, they should be more clear on how hot they make their food, be friendlier and turn on the heat.

Wow, an Indian restaurant that is actually unique!  The menu was full of fusion dishes (masala fries, samosa burger, etc.) as well as Indian food you don't normally see on regular menus.  For cheap, too!  I asked for a recommendation from the manager, who suggested the butter chicken, and hot damn that was good.  Thick, buttery and spicy.

My tablemates got the Aloo Samosas, Masala Chicken and Moong Dahl (a kind of Indian pea soupish dish), all good and all spicy.  Besides the food I was pretty fond of the entertainment as well, from the large bearded man dancing around on an Indian cooking show they were broadcasting to our second-day-on-the-job waiter being really nervous.  Hurry and go to Saffron before he gains confidence in his job skills!  And eat their tasty food while you're there.

This placed used to be good - now it's absolute garbage food and service.

    Quick Summary:
Used to be great (2 years ago)
Now - Stale bad tasting food
    Bad ingredients
    Really bad service

    Long Story:
I found this place two years ago (2009) when it was still small inside. The owner was nice, food tasted great and it was something unique. Good indian food + some indian/american fusion (masala fries, lamb burger).

Over the past year, the food has deteriorated into garbage while the inside of the restaurant looks better. Not sure what happened. The owner is nice and I know him but all the other employees are really bad.

I used to eat here once a month at least for a year straight and have avoided them for about a few months since my last bad experience.

Today, I ordered a big order thru grubhub. First of all, their employee bungled the grubhub order because their fax machine was broken. Grubhub called them to confirm the order but the saffron guy called me to say I have to reorder with them. Long story but it was a newbie mistake on their part. So I had to cancel thru grubhub, reorder thru saffron directly.

I ordered some veg samosas (average), jeera rice (below average), butter chicken (zero stars, they're using the wrong kind of chicken meat - tastes like frozen chicken breasts chopped up), channa masala (average, smells old), roti (good - can't really mess this up).

Nothing tastes good or fresh anymore. Everything is stale and poor tasting. This has happened the last three or four times I've ordered from here. I keep hoping they get back to their greatness but it's a lost cause now.

To boot, the gentleman who delivers always has a frown on his face, as if he's doing me a favor. Never a hello. Always grumpy looking. Looks at his watch as if he has better things to do. Then looks at the receipt to see if I tipped well. PS: I always tip well (whether dining in or getting delivery) but it's annoying when the delivery guy looks at the receipt first before saying "have a good day" or something.

Never ordering from here again. I just ate rest of the delivery because I'm starving and feel sick - blech.

Some good options you can try instead:

Vishnu Vilas (if you like *authentic* spicy south indian food but the ambiance/service is not great - but the food more than makes up for everything else)

Gaylord (high ambiance, avg to above avg indian food)

This place has the best Indian food I have ever had!  It's definitely a hole in the wall, tucked away off the beaten path, but it is so worth checking out for the the butter chicken alone.  Service is friendly, and the food is plentiful and cheap.

We went back a few weeks ago, and they have redecorated.  It is definitely more upscale than it was.  I would go back again.

I decided to give this place another chance since it was the only nearby Indian restaurant open at 4pm. The frustration began with the phone call to order carry out. The person on the other end actually became impatient and snippy with me when I stammered to remember the phone number of my partner who would be picking up the order. Ugh!

I asked for "mild" to see if they could now do it. They said they could, but when I saw the order, it was obvious that they had simply added water to the two dishes. It wasn't even mixed in well, so some of it floated at the top. (For the record, other Indian restaurants have no problem adding more veggies or cream, which tempers the spiciness while maintaining great flavor and consistency.) That wasn't the end of it. Even setting aside the watered-down issue, the spinach in the Palak Paneer was nasty--totally devoid of spinach flavor, like canned or extremely overcooked spinach. The dish was overwhelmed with ginger pieces as if to compensate for the spinach. The lentils in the Tadka Daal seemed similarly overcooked and did not have tomatoes as the description stated. It was a odd yellow color, not the rich red-brown shown in the photo on their website.

Saffron will not win any awards for its decor.  The place is adorned with cheap furniture and posters of food items tacked to the walls.  What it lacks in ambiance, it more than makes up for with the food.  The butter chicken was the best I have ever tasted.  The paneer tikka masala, their fusion take on chicken tikka masala, was creamy and delightful.  Their mutton masala contained a lot of bone but as one of my lunch mates pointed out, the bone makes the dish that much tastier.  All these items were relatively inexpensive.

Amit, the owner, quit a lucrative job as a software developer to open up this hole-in-the-wall restaurant.  He was sick of the cubicle life and wanted to pursue his passion.  I, for one, am glad he had the gulab jamuns (the Indian equivalent of cojones, or at least what I think it should be) to quit his desk job.  I know I'll continue to benefit from his career change as I plan on eating my way through the many items on the Saffron menu.

I've gone to saffron before because they make there food a little hotter then other Indian restaurants and I think the food is pretty good.  I'd give it a higher rating, but they need to work on their service/cleanliness.

It felt more like a diner then a restaurant.  They did just redo the restaurant, so it's close to being pretty good.

Went here last night and very glad I did.  Reasonably priced good quality Indian food.  Don't let the fact that it's in a strip mall scare you, it's really good!

The Good Stuff: If you love Chicken Tikka Masala then you will love the Butter Chicken here!  Very, very good.  It's the same thing so have no fear in ordering it.  I liked the use of spices in it and the chicken was very good quality white meat just like I like--not weird or rubbery or undercooked.  Perfect!  I also very much appreciate that the chef came out to help us order according to our tastes and was very patient in explaining his take on the dishes.  LOVE the naan!  I always get garlic naan and I really liked that it was both crisp and soft.  Chicken Tikka kabob app was good too and my friend liked the Mutton Masala.

The Needs-A-Little-Improvement-Stuff: The waitress was nice but literally knew NOTHING about any of the food at all.  I mean, it's a casual place and the chef did help a lot but, I dunno, she should have known a little more.  The menu didn't have any descriptions of any of the dishes either so I would change that ASAP if I were them because I think that would help a lot of people better choose what they might want and to get excited about coming back to try other things too.  My friend's dish had bones in it and he struggled with it a bit so I don't know if that's something that can be changed seeing as it's probably traditional?  The decor is just so-so but again, it's not supposed to be an expensive place so I dunno.

All in all though, very good food at very good prices.  I will be back for sure.

Had I done my thorough Yelp-search, I would have known Mondays were carryout only. So, little bro and I went to Saffron, happy that it was open on a holiday and ready to chow down on spicy goodness, not knowing that we may have had to find a random place to cop a squat with our meal.

There were only two men in the kitchen who kindly let us know it was carryout only that day, but even more kindly let us sit in the restaurant to dine anyway, probably because they saw how sad and desperate we were to try their food. I felt like an outlaw as others came in to place carryout orders. I'm sure after reading this review, however, they may think twice about bending the rules since Mondays are Mondays for a reason. Either way, I was grateful and content to soak in the atmosphere.

Saffron has a very small dining space, maybe 4 tables max, but cozy and friendly. They also offer DVDs and various Indian snacks to take home!

We waited about 45 minutes for our food, which in other situations would be ridiculous, but we were truly happy to exercise patience as they let us take up a table on a Monday. They were backed up with various carryout orders, and as we WERE breaking the rules....It was well worth the wait.

Mouthwatering spices abounding: a richly satisfying Chana Masala for those who like chick peas (little bro says, "Yuck," but I say, "Bring it on!"), a hearty Mutton Masala for the meatier folk, and Goat biryani for the aromatic and flavorful basmati experience. Naan? But of course!!! And plenty of it. We "washed" our food down with mango lassi -- a mango "milkshake" one should NOT pass up.

Service was as sweet and apologetic as can be, considering they were kitchen dudes doing their best to make everyone happy.  The experience was not lacking one bit.

I will definitely return. Better get that appetite going, little bro!  We have much more to try!

I cannot believe that they have such great food here!
This is NOT a place to enjoy nice ambience, cool music, beautiful decor or spend romantic time with your date.
HOWEVER, the food.... thier food is THE BEST among any other Indian food I have ever tasted! The seasoning is perfect. The spices got good punch but never overwhelm the flavor of the ingredients. And so cheap! I'd come back to here for carry out Indian dishes.(You can east inside but I would like to relax at my own place than its tiny & sort of boring space).

One of the Indian customers I met at the restaurant said she comes here at least once a week to get the chicken tikka even though there are many other Indian restaurants around her house which is about 15 mi away, just because Saffron's food is far better!

They sell some Indian DVD's & snacks, too. Monday is carry-out only.

I pass by here all the time and finally went to lunch there on Monday. Which, if you're familiar with it, is a no-no because they only do carry out on Mondays... :) But they were so nice they let us stay since it was only two of us, and the food was delicious plus we had a lot to take home.

The Butter Chicken was spicy buy flavorful and I loved the paratha bread and anise/caraway rice. Yes, they're extra, but the prices are so low it really isn't a big deal. The Chicken Masala was also tasty, and a bit less spicy. I highly recommend Saffron for its prices and friendly staff, and most importantly, for the delicious food!

There is no reason to go to Devon Ave. anymore!!!  This place is as good as it gets when is comes to Indian food.  I go to Devon Ave at least once a week to get my Indian Spice craving in, but I work near Saffron and will go here for lunch from now on.

So far I've eaten the Chilli Chicken Paratha Roll, which is spicy chicken goodness all wrapped up in their delicious Paratha.  Similar to a burrito but kinda not at the same time.  I've also eaten the Seekh Kabob, got a little kick to it and it's perfectly grilled.  The sauces that it comes with are a great compliment to the dish.  Try the masala fries, pretty much your regular thick cut fries with Indian seasoning on it, but tastes Great!!!  The Chicken Biriyani is also really good.  Their prices are very reasonable and they also have lunch special from 11am-2pm.

Can't wait to try everything else on the menu including their pizzas.

Check this place out, you will not be disappointed!!!

Cheap prices and good food!  This place just opened up a few months back so we checked it out tonight.  It seems like it is more for take out or catering, there are only about 5 tables in the place and it doesn't have much decor...but then again they are brand new!  The menu is not huge but the basic staples are there and the prices are good.  For $21 (before tip and tax) we got 4 potato samosa, 3 shish kabobs, 1 mutton byriani, 1 butter chicken and 2 cans of soda.  Everything was really good and pretty spicy...the one thing I liked is it had a slightly different taste than your typical Indian food...there were other spices, like cinnamon, which gave it a different taste!  Food servings were not huge but we still took home half the chicken and kabobs and enough byriani for 1 person.

They also have pizzas with an indian touch, like chicken tandoori, which sound good.  Just some other details, the meat is all halal, there are many vegetarian items and they have lunch specials which range from 3.99-7.99 and include a drink.  We will be back as I want to try everything on the menu!

Whenever I am up at Woodfield to shop, I look for a new restaurant to try out. Thanks to the great reviews on Yelp and Citysearch, we tried this place. It was about a 15 minute drive from Woodfield, but so so worth it. As others have said, it is a small place of 5 tables, but still comfortable to dine in. The owner (I think) was very friendly. We ordered a pizza, chicken biriyani,  butter chicken, and naan. Total with a couple cokes was $32. It was more than enough for the dinner and 2 left over meals.

It did take awhile (20 minutes maybe) to get the food with one family ahead of us. I didn't mind because everything would be hot and fresh, and we did order a pizza that had to be baked. I think our hunger made the wait worse than it was.

The food was delicious. The pizza had wonderful flavors, thin crust, with curried chicken. The butter chicken was spiced so it wasn't overwhelming at first bite, but after a few bites you noticed that your mouth was coated in heat. Very nice. The chicken biriyani had tender tasty chicken. The naan was perfect.

Interestingly, the bathroom is in the back through the kitchen, which allows you to smell the wonderful cooking food and see everything being made.

My girlfriend and I decided that EVERYTIME we are in Schaumburg we will either eat here or order ahead to take it home for the next day. I seriously thought about and was happy with this meal for days...

Saffron has the best butter chicken that I've ever tasted (less than 10 Indian restaurants).  We also ordered the chicken biryani and naan.  The biryani was a little tart for my tastes, both entrees were spicier than anticipated, but so good.  The naan was plentiful and good, too.  Prices were very reasonable, especially after using a http://restaurant.com coupon.

The atmosphere matches the generic strip mall exterior.  Our server, however, was so polite.  There are also Indian DVDs and basic packaged foods for sale.  I'd recommend this place for carryout or for a simple dining experience.

While the naan is fantastic, I've had three separate occasions where, even when requested otherwise, my food has been inedibly spicy. The palak paneer had only a few chunks of paneer, and my last order of baigan bartha was so spicy that it burned my mouth for an hour. I won't be ordering from them again.

By far some of the BEST indian food I've ever had...
Had the mutton marsala, butter chicken, chicken tikka, 2 bowls of rice, and naan. The mutton marsala was by far my favorite. My fiancee really enjoyed the butter chicken. I've had better naan but the entrees were flavorful and spicy (just the way I like it). We got all that and 2 soft drinks for $35ish and had a $10 off http://restaurant.com coupon. Can't wait to eat the leftovers tonight!

I had a gift certificate for Saffron that I bought on http://restaurants.com.  We went there for dinner one night and ordered samosas, butter chicken (based on other reviews), another dish, biryani, naan, and roti.  The samosas were tasty.  The butter chicken and naan were delicious and I'd recommend those dishes.  Both the biryani and roti were big disappointments, and I would not order either of those again.  All in all, the food was acceptable and the prices were OK.  However, I won't be visiting again.  I found at least two strands of hair in the food, which just completely turned me off.

Went with a groupon and loved it. The butter chicken and onion naan were quite a hit! Can't wait to go again.

The chicken bryani is good and my wife loves the Veg bryani too. The masala (seasoned) fries are fantastic as well. Very reasonably priced. 2 can eat for about $20 (for dinner). Simple decor. Nice owner.

I brought around 12 people for late evening snacks (9pm) which included few orders of bryani, burgers, fries, drinks and more for 12 people and it was around $100 only. They all loved it.

    Fantastico! Very interesting food.
And spicy! Yum yum yum !!!
I'm usually not very impressed with Indian food. Its either "Over the top fusion" or just too westernized and bland. But Saffron did a fantastic job of keeping it real with a nice spicy twist ; )
As for the place itself - its really a takeout place with a few tables, but surprising clean with friendly folk.
Go ahead and give it a try : )

Great food, good prices, and a staff that has been nothing but friendly. I don't know what else you can ask for. The owner is always there to make suggestions and explain some of their unique dishes. I feel like family when I walk in.

As for the food, I would suggest the chicken byriani and of course the butter chicken. They also serve a few interesting pizza fusion options. I haven't tried one yet but I definitely plan on returning to do so.

Went to this place with my family for my birthday. So glad I consulted Yelp! I've been to the India House and it was a bit pretentious. This place felt like home. The service was wonderful and they answered all our questions. We tried the butter and chilly chicken - awesome! Also had their fried rice - great. We had their mango drink with the meal along with water and enjoyed a great time together. The owner came out and was as pleasant as can be. He told us about their recent expansion and asked if we liked it to spread the word. I will without doubt! A great time at a great place.

We had friends over at our place and decided to order food from Saffron since we liked their rolls.
We thought of ordering the entrees this time ordered paneer tikka, chole bhatura, biryani and roti.
The food looked good but when we had the first bite of the paneer tikka all of us found it to be very spicy. Now this wasn't "hot" it was way more than hot it seemed that someone added the chilli twice to the dish. We all drank more water rather than eating the food.
The roti's were so dry they just forgot to add some butter (or indian ghee).
The chole batura was as spicy as the paneer tikka and looked terrible (it might have been some morning left over).
The biryani looked good but someone almost forgot to mix all the biryani masala, since there were just lumps of masala.
Overall, it was an extremely bad experience we almost had to throw the food and order from some other place.
Apart from that I called them up to tell them that their food was terrible, the guy over the phone is not ready to take any responsibility he told me he didn't take the order so he can't do anything about it.He told me the owner would get back but I am still waiting. And he mentioned to me that all their food is medium spicy, this wasn't even close to that. Maybe they need to define their spice levels or their customers would be running away!!

Had the goat curry and my hubby had the paya (lamb). Not bad but they gave more bones than meat on both dishes. Naan was the worst I have ever tasted, burnt. Hubby also had a paratha wrap which was the only good thing we tasted. Service very slow. Will not recommend this place to anyone.
