This is your standard no-thrills Safeway for Charles Village, lovingly places inside the shell of an old Buick dealership . The checkout people are nice, but the lines are usually long, the result of a number of broken registers. Rumour has it that the store will be renovated sometime in 2006.

This Safeway is the most horrendous grocery store.  I live nearby so sometimes walk over if I need only one thing, but avoid it at most costs.  Oftentimes basic kitchen staples are missing from the shelves (eg: butter, eggs, milk, etc!).  Their store-baked french bread is always underbaked, once to the point that I found raw dough inside.  The clerks are almost purposefully unhelpful.  The store's entire refrigeration system broke about a month ago and all their refrigerated foods went to spoil away, with no care to donate the food to a food bank or whatever before it went rotten.  

The only shining star of the entire place is the hispanic produce clerk who is always helpful, friendly and knowledgable.
