My husband and I spent a week on Kauai for our honeymoon - this activity was recommended to us by everyone we talked to and Safari was a name that kept popping up in our conversations.
Please do this while you're in Kauai! More than any of the other Hawaiian islands, a helicopter tour really gives you bang for your buck in Kauai. You really can't experience the entire island until you see it from above. I was a bit nervous going into the whole experience; my husband wanted to do the "doors off" tour with another company but we compromised and ended up with Safari. So glad we toured with them - first off, the girl behind the desk was great. I asked her if she'd done the no doors helicopter tours and she said no, because all of her pilot friends who fly for companies that do them said they actually aren't very safe. A personal friend of mine who lives in Oahu even had his seatbelt break mid-flight; no thank you!
Anyway, our pilot was Paul and he was funny, quite knowledgeable and made me feel very safe in the helicopter. This was my first time in a helicopter but as soon as we were off the ground, he was entertaining us with stories and facts, along with good music and the breathtaking scenery. I ended up with a window seat on the right hand side (best for pictures as they always fly around the island clockwise). We did the hour long flight (strongly recommend) and ordered the DVD of our trip.
I would definitely do this again and would insist that anyone visiting Kauai puts this at the top of their list. Safari is a great company; professional, organized, friendly, upbeat, and exceedingly competent (no safety issues ever!) and knowledgeable. Choose them - you'll be glad you did.
Chopper tours can be expensive, but as of this review Safari Helicopters is offering almost 30% off on their tour prices if you book online. This promo is what got me to pick Safari over the other outfits on the island. And boy I'm glad I did.
The staff was terrific, and their office was clean, neat, and comfortingly professional. The pilot was knowledgable, friendly, funny, and made us feel very secure in the aircraft. The entire tour took place to beautiful orchestral background music that, coupled with the breathtaking vistas, actually brought me to tears several times.
Would do this again in a heartbeat. Totally worth the price.
A must-do if you're on the island. There is so much of Kauai that you can't see by car or through hiking, and it so deserves to be seen and appreciated. We booked with Safari the morning of our flight and got a pretty reasonable deal. When I did the tour before with Air Kauai (now out of business) its was $260 per person, and we paid only $189 which is decent for a helicopter tour.
We were in the chopper with two other couples, but it didn't feel crowded, and the windows are so large that everyone has a good view. Our pilot, Paco, was funny and informative and was very savvy at navigating in narrow canyons and such. It was worth every penny and they were a professional company to fly with.

Did some research and asked for recommendations. Safari was chosen and proved to be an exceptional experience.
Call directly and make your arrangements. Flights cost about $185 per person with direct booking.
You meet at the office, go over a safety briefing and then are transported by van to the heliport.
Six passengers per copter. Seating is very nice with large view windows for all to see. Take off and flight was very smooth. You put on Bose headphones and listed to the pilot describe what you are seeing. Nice music also.
The flight over Kauai was magnificent. Great views of the ocean, bluffs, cliffs, beaches and waterfalls. The famed Napili Coast was just magnificent. The flight is about one hour and circles the entire Island.
IMHO, this is a must do. The remote parts of Kauai are only viewed during a helicopter tour. Truly beautiful and breathtaking scenery.

We started with a mix-up on the time. The company we booked the tour with told us we were on a 12:30 flight, but we were really booked on a 2:00 flight. It was annoying that it changed our plans for the day. At least they gave us front seats for the mix-up.
Aside from the time issue, we had a great tour. We also had Paul who was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of good information.
I do get motion sickness, so if you do too, I would strongly suggest taking Dramamine before getting on the copter. (Unfortunately, I didn't think of it...of course, hindsight is always 20/20). Paul said that his record is only two people who have gotten sick in the last 2 1/2 years and it was only because they were partying with Mai Tais the night before. He told us to mention to him if we were feeling sick because he could do things to help. As I reached for an "Aloha sickness bag," he turned the fan toward me which helped. I felt a little green, but I was not about to ruin his record. I held on tight and tried to enjoy the rest of the flight.
The views were amazing and there are just parts of Kauai that you could not see without the helicopter.
I have yet to see the DVD we ordered, but I'm sure it will be beautiful.
After comparing all the different companies tours, we found booking Safari 50 minutes tour online was the best deal ($175) and the A-Star helicopter a very good model.
Then, we found the ground staff very nice and friendly.
Finally, the Tour was an AMAZING experience, and we just loved the way our pilot handled it (his name is Paul, the "red team").
This is the first Hawaiian helicopter tour I've done, so I don't have a lot to compare it with. While we did see some amazing scenery from the air, I'm not sure I'd do it again, mostly because we paid almost $200 each for the 50-minute ride... that's a lot of bucks. I'm glad I did it, but I probably wouldn't do it again. Once is enough.

I did a lot of research before heading out to Kaua'i because I wanted to be sure and do a helicopter ride on this trip. I booked online with Safari and saved by booking at their website (http://www.safariair.com). I did a morning flight. You go to their office to check-in and then they shuttle you to the landing pad in a really nice shuttle. The office is very clean with a small gift shop. I even purchased the DVD before flying which was ready within 24 hours for pickup. The flight was just over an hour. All the people were friendly and informative. Great helicopters...clean, comfy great visibility. I would highly recommend Safari on Kaua'i!
