Yeah! This place is not bad! But, you know, not all that great either.

An order of chicken tikka masala (comes with rice), an order of daal (comes with rice), on order of naan, a side of raita, was plenty of food for two and came to about $25 total before tax/tip.

Overall, sauces were runny. Like soupy-runny. Like two-paper-plates-for-sure-runny. The raita was nearly liquid, as was the daal and masala sauce. I do like to have plenty of sauce, but it needed a little more heft. But the flavors were good, and didn't taste too watered down. The tikka sauce was a bit sweet, but also had a nice amount of heat (we requested "spicy") that mellowed out nicely with the daal.

We'll probably try another indian place in the area before going back, but if all else fails, Sacrificial Lamb seems like a good fall back.

It's alright. The curry was rather oily and the chicken pieces were small, but it was okay. The naan wasn't too greasy and the rice was okay.

Baklava was definitely nothing to write home about either. I ordered for delivery and the delivery guy was definitely grumpy (it wasn't even that bad of a night!)

Overall, the food was okay, but i wouldn't make a special trip out here.

The people who work here are super nice and really try to accommodate the customer, and also they stay open late (midnight), to offer a quick, affordable, healthy meal option late into the evening.  I enjoyed their chicken kabob with salad and chick peas.  The chicken was well flavored with tandoori seasoning and cilantro, and the chick peas were not as spicy as I'm used to, but very tasty.  The salad came with a fresh lemon slice, and I used some of the green sauce on top (I'm not sure what's in this, but it's tangy and good).  They also do wraps and other to-go types of food.

So I use to eat here. Used to get the butter chicken and Chana masala. One day I decided to change my usual order into a kabob. I was craving one. I got the kabob was Not that good but, nonetheless I was starving. My last bite I took ended up with a big crunch. It felt kind of familiar but I was hoping it was a herb of some sort. Nope it was a fingernail. Gross! I threw everything in the trash. Didn't know if I was going to find the remaining nine nails.  I called to just let them know what happened. They offered me another meal(not happening). The guy (very apologetic) who was managing that night came to pick up the evidence. I was told I was going to get a refund. It's been two weeks. Havent seen it yet. Bummer, I really liked that butter chicken!

This kid ordered neither a kabob nor a wrap.  She went with the chicken tikka masala.

For the low, low price of $10.95, you, too, can experience the greasy delight that is this dish. Served in a bowl FULL of sauce and enough pieces of chicken, it is also accompanied by peppers (yellow and green) and some whitish stuff and some greenish stuff and a heaping container of rice. You'll want to splurge the extra $2 for naan, because there is a buttload of sauce in this guy.

The food itself is probably 2 star quality, but I'm really excited that I just had a complete meal, and have leftovers, after spending just $4.

I'll definitely return for more the next time I find myself in the office and craving something other than Panera.

(Kudos also to Groupon for their Groupon Nows and $5 off deal today).

This is definitely not a dine-in place. The food is pretty good (I tried chickpeas, lamb biryani, buttered chicken, and samosas.

My main compliant is that the lamb and chicken both have almonds, and it isn't advertised anywhere on the menu. So sucks for people with nut allergies.

Also, I ordered samosas and chickpeas seperately. The samosas already come with chickpeas (also not detailed on the menu), and the guy on the phone didn't tell me that.

Minor annoyances aside, I'd order again. I just wouldn't have high expectations.

I believe recently the place changed ownership.  One of the guys is kind of weird and made me feel awkward about being there.  I think the chicken biriyani is probably the best thing on the menu, but really only worth it if you get an instant deal off of groupon or living social.

Vegetarians: try the chickpeas stewed in a rich, flavorful dark yellow sauce.

I appreciate that the takeout containers are tightly sealed. (None of that styrofoam hinged lid stuff, spilling whenever you tilt it slightly). I also like that the nice, fluffy basmati rice is packaged separately from the curry.

I really want to love this place. It's just minutes from my apartment, and I like curry. I just wish it were a little more affordable. Most of the entrees run  $9 and up (at least the portions are large).

I order from here frequently using http://seamless.com.  This place gets five stars because the staff is awesome.  They are polite, prompt and most of all they treat you like a friend.  For example, they once called me to let me know that the dish I ordered (eggplant) required a long cooking time and therefore they would be 10 minutes later than originally estimated.  When they arrived they apologized again for the delay and threw in some free naan.  Nice touch.

The food always hits the spot for me.  It's Northern Indian cuisine and therefore they have both kebobs and what I typically think of as "Indian Food".  My favoriate dishes are the Palak Paneer, Buttered Chicken and Paneer Makhani.  The dishes are rather large and come in high quality containers (you shouldn't have to worry about them spilling).

Great place for quick take-out Indian food and Kebobs.

I live across the street and I couldn't be happier that this restaurant is only a few steps away.  I have had the butter chicken, the lamb gyro and the chicken gyro, the fries and chick peas and rice and I have never been disappointed.  The staff is incredible and welcome me like a friend every time I walk in.  They make the food promptly and are generous with the portions.  I love this place and take all of my out of town guests to eat there and they are all blown away.  I recommend this to anyone, it is my go-to restaurant in DC.

    Food: 2/5
I recently ordered $20 worth of food from Sacrificial Lamb using a seamless web groupon. My order consisted of Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, and Samosas.

I received meager helpings of tasteless chicken tikka masala which only had 4 pieces of meat while being mostly green bell peppers. The garlic naan I ordered came as plain naan. The 2.25 each samosas were the only decent thing on the menu. To make matters worse, I ended up having some stomach issues after the food and because I was fasting it could not have been anything else I ate. Definitely will not return here again.

    Delivery: 0/5
I prepaid my tip with the on line purchase and when my food arrived, the delivery man called me and told me to come outside because he was here. In my neighborhood it is standard practice to come to the row house door. He refused and I waited till he came up.

    This place is getting better!

I had a special for $8.95 with chicken, two veggie sides, rice and naan bread. I split my chicken between butter chicken and curry chicken. This was the tastiest meal I've had here out of like 4-5 times!  I used to not be a huge fan of this place but kept returning because I love Indian food and hoped I would enjoy it each time... I think it finally paid off.

YUMM, this meal was just about perfect. I'm happy about this!

Sometimes I don't want the "added excitement" of trying not to get killed in bad parts of town when I want to eat  dirt cheap ethic food.  So sometimes I eat here.

    Rad:

This hole in the wall kabob joint will satisfy your craving for boneless chicken kabobs until you can make it out to a random strip mall in the suburbs to get the real thing.

Don't sleep on the "Goolab Jamoon"

    Bad:

Not even in the same league as Ravi Kabob.

In general, meh to good - depending on what you get:

Atmosphere is a small basement space - one Yelper complained of space and fluorescent lights,..come on, that's a quarter of NYCs greatest foodie places - just don't expect frills here.

Friendly staff, perhaps owner and his wife working the counter, with one cook in back on a slow, late Saturday nite.

NAAN BREAD large piece - earthy, thick, flakey, and moist. Winner!

CHICK PEAS, served with some of the entrees and apps are some of the best I've eaten - perfectly tender in a light savory curry sauce. Yum!

VEG SAMOSAS 2 modest sized perfectly-done crispy morsels served w/a raspberry? dipping sauce - excellent!

ONLY NEG: The kebob "platter" - I ordered boneless chicken - had only 4-5 SMALL pieces (more like mini-nuggets) which were tasty, but slightly dry hidden by heaping shards of iceberg lettuce and red cabbage. Wouldn't mention this other than this was their most expensive $10 entree which looked much larger than the menu board. NOT a good value.

I'll be back for another try and review...

I was hesitant about going in here because the name was weird, but my coworkers brought me one day, and I was very pleasantly surprised.

First amazing thing: Indian food and middle eastern food in one place, walking distance from my office.

Second amazing thing: I was advised to get a chicken naan wrap, so I did. I don't know how to describe the thing other than heaven in your mouth. It's so amazing.

Third amazing thing: They managed to take orders for all five of us and get our food ready in a surprisingly short time, and not mess anything up! They were very friendly, too.

Fourth amazing thing: The other stuff I've tried (veggie samosas and chickpeas) were also delicious.

I'm kind of hesitant to rate this five stars because I don't want it to start becoming too mobbed at lunch time, it's that good.

The place probably deserves a 3.5.  I haven't been inside it, either, so this review is based entirely on delivery.  The delivery was pretty slow.  The driver was friendly, though, but taking 30-odd minutes to make a 10 minute drive seems a bit excessive.

We got the Naan wraps and samosas.  The Naan was delicious, fluffy and tasty.  The lamb wrap had a disappointing amount of meat and no spicy sauce, even though we asked for it.  The samosas were very, very good and came with chickpeas, which were also tasty.

I might order from here again, if for no other reason besides that it's hard to find good, cheap Indian food in DC.

The only thing that was sacrified was my time and money!!!

It's been about a year since I bought food here and it will be a couple of years before I return.   I had a fixation for indian food so I went SLKW to cure my craving....  I got the buttered chicken (fondly remember it from the past) an a kabob.   The chicken part of the kabob was decent . the rest was barely edible..... in fact the garbage got most of it!! Also.. the front of the menu says... 10% off for orders over $15  my order was 25.00...  my discount 0!  The lack of a discount really didn't bother me as much as the disappointing food and the fact that I walked from 11th and K with this memory of the fantastic food that I purchased there one year ago.... I won't sacrifice my time or money anymore ........ Oh.. stop being chincy with sauce... it came in thimble size containers........ really, if I could I would give it a star and 1/2.............

The Sacrificial Lamb is one of my favorite "secret" eats in DC.  It does have a crazy name, but who cares?  It's also not a great place for a sit down dinner -- this is more of a take-out joint.  I love watching the man in back make a fresh naan for your sandwich or as a side for your chicken tikka.  It comes out fresh, flour-y, and at that perfect moment just before charred.

For the chicken sandwich, you will see them microwave the chicken, which has been pre-cooked in the tandor, but it doesn't affect the quality in the slightest, in my opinion.  The chicken pieces are all very high quality -- no stringy meat or pieces of fat -- and nice plump chunks.  The sauces are delicious and add to the flavor.  My hard-to-please vegetarian brother ordered the vegetarian sandwich and told me that he was impressed at how good it was.

The chicken tikka is mouth-wateringly buttery and smooth, with similarly nice plump chunks.  I don't like brown meat or stringy chicken, so this place is right up my alley.  The chickpeas vary from excellent to just good, depending on the day, but I never regret ordering extra.  The rice is solid -- good, not too sticky, never overcooked.

The mango lassi is delicious -- thick, yogurty, and full of great mango flavor.  It's a great treat!  The samosas are not very good -- greasy, bland, and too thick -- but I can live without.

The people behind the counter are humble, quiet, and friendly.  Just nice folks.

I really love Indian food, and I'm picky about taste and quality.  (Heritage of India, for example, gets only 2-3 stars from me.)  A filling, delicious meal, for a great price!  Love it.  Try it!

Tastey Tastey Tastey!!!! I felt like i was back in the Middle East eating at this hole in the wall that everyone raves about.

    1. The food is so flavorful.
    2. Portions are huge.
    3. The staff is amazing, cant get any nicer than them.

I would not suggest eating there, very small place sunken into the ground and with limited seating mainly outside- so definitely carry out.

I got the goat biryani..the goat was a bit chewy but I've heard it is usually pretty good there.

try it out if you enjoy Indian/Middle eastern food.

I've finally found my go-to delivery place for Indian food! Ordered the veggie platter. According to their website it comes with your choice of 2 veg curries (I got paneer makhani and palak paneer... I really like paneer), bhaji fritters, daal/lentils, and raita or chutney. Well, I didn't get any bhaji or daal, but I did get chutney and naan as a bonus. Despite the missing items, for 12.95 it was a ton of food (more than half is in my fridge now), and really delicious. Some places the paneer makhani is really hit or miss (to me a miss tastes too much like green bell peppers); Sacrificial Lamb's is creamy and tangy, and oh so good. Their coriander chutney is yummy too, even though there were no fritters to dip in it.

I'm not sure what the menu screw up is about, so it's a solid 3 stars for now. Despite that, I have a really happy tummy right now!

I love sacrificial lamb. The prices are cheap, the food delicious, and it's conveniently located for anyone in the North Dupont area. I've also ordered a bunch of times via Seamless Web and have always been happy with my food. This is definitely a take-out place, so I wouldn't go there to eat.

I particularly like the Biryani (best I've had in DC), the chickpeas, and the samosas. In short, I think this is the best (cheap) North Indian food in the Dupont area.

This place may have a long name and may look dingy on the inside, but don't let that detract you from coming in. There is some pretty good Indian/Middle Eastern cuisine, served rather quickly. Had the butter chicken meal with mulligatawny and chickpeas. Also had the chicken and beef naan wraps, which are pretty hearty and large. Take advantage of their in-store flyers which contain coupons, usually allowing you to save at least $1 on some orders.

Note:  This review is based on a completely sober visit.

After New Big Wong, my favorite restaurant name in DC!  This Pakistani run basement  joint (brought to you by the same folks that own Capitol Hill Tandoor on Barracks Row) is nothing to look at, but they do put out a damn fine kebob.  I had the seehk kebob made (naturally) with lamb and was not disappointed.  Apparently they took the Post's Good to Go review to heart because my kebob definitely had some heat and it was not dried out.  Accompanied by rice and chickpeas, this was a pretty good lunch deal at $8.95.

They also serve boneless chicken kebobs and I'm sure comparisons will be made with the nearby Moby Dick which has similar offerings (but is Iranian.)  The difference is in the spicing; while Moby Dick's seasoning is subtle, Sacrificial Lamb's is more assertive.  Plus, as has been noted, you can get the seekh kebob made from lamb (mmmm, lamb...) while Moby Dick's kubideh are made exclusively from beef.

When I moved to Dupont this summer, I was delighted to find out that I'd also moved down the street from Sacrificial Lamb which quickly became a staple for my boyfriend and I.

The food (when its on) is awesome and the prices cannot be beat (read its cheap). Both of us are more than stuffed for just about 20 bucks. I tend to stick to the Butter Chicken daily special which comes with basmati/jasmine rice, chickpeas, and the other vegetable available, but I've also tried the naan wraps and the kabobs which are all excellent! One time when I was in getting my standby butter chicken, the owner offered me a sample of the chicken curry which tastes very similar to the chickpeas - I havent yet gotten a full order of that but the sample was very convincing.

The owner is very friendly and willing to give out samples and also is very reasonable with prices, i.e. he's thrown in naan for me on a few occasions which is definitely worth it cause its some fantastic naan.

The reason I had to knock my rating down to a 4 is because one night the butter chicken was considerably tomato-heavy but it clearly was an off night for Sacrificial Lamb, and I don't hold it against them. I guess my best advice would be to check out the color of the butter chicken prior to ordering it...or just get a sample to make sure its up to snuff.

Long story short - lots of food for not a lot of money, they deliver, they're friendly and I love the place. Definitely worth trying!

Had dinner from this place the other night.  It was pretty good!  First off, I love vegetable samosas done right.  And this place does 'em right.  Nice and crunchy on the outside, perfectly seasoned on the inside.  Mmmmmm mmmmmm, good!

For my entree, I ordered the lamb kebabs.  I choose the rice over the naan, and I was quite satisfied with my choice.  The lamb was cooked thoughout (no pink), but it was still very moist and it was seasoned well.  The rice was.....well, rice....and it came with a side (a teeeeeeny tiny side, to be honest) of chickpeas and a side salad (with too much iceberg lettuce).  All in all though, it was still a good meal.  I'd definitely try this place again!

Food is good, but not good enough to make up for their insanely slow delivery. They can't seem to get their act together.

Ordered at 5:16 pm and was given a 35-55 minute window. At  6:30 I called to see what was going on and was told 2 more minutes. After several more phone calls, our food was delivered at 7:32 pm. Yes, you read that right, almost 2.5 hours after we ordered and we only live a few blocks away. We weren't offered anything for the inconvenience, not even an apology.

So, food is decent, but overall not worth the hassle.

I've had their food before, and it's been fine. Nothing special, but perfectly sufficient for takeout Indian. I find the kabobs to be really well flavored, but also really dry. Delivery can take a really long time though; the last time I ordered from there, an approximate time of 45-55 minutes was suggested, but it ended up taking over 90...totally not cool. Also, their entire menu isn't available on Seamless Web, but it is on All Menus, so if you're wanting biryani or curry or anything other than kabobs, don't use Seamless Web. Overall though, it was pretty good.

I hate to say it, but every time I visit this place gets progressively worse. My first time at Sacrificial Lamb I was drawn in by the quirky name zipped to my Android screen by a late night yelp search and I was not disappointed.

The Curry Chicken redeemed Indian food for me...after a bad experience even when I was less than hopeful and settled on plan ole' unadventurous kebabs (but even they were glorious, and I knew whatever sacrifice they refer to in this little eatery's name was not in vain YUM)

The second time I went back to satisfy the kebab craving that would not quit and it was ok but something was different...not as good. The third time I figured it out...they changed the chickpeas. Blasphemy....I cannot believe they changed the chickpeas. I asked, the cashier confirmed they did. I carried out...so it wasn't until I got home that I realized that not only was my hopes of having the delicious dish that made me love SL dashed against the rocks....my kebabs weren't done.

Uggg, it was the first time the trip to Virginia to Kebab Palace seemed like a far better choice. Raw meat...and weird chickpeas, NOT HOT Sacrificial Lamb.

This place is exactly as another reviewer described: insanely slow delivery.  I wish I had seen that review before ordering.  I had the EXACT same experience.  It took more than two hours to receive my food.  They didn't offer me a refund or a discount. I also live less than four blocks away.  I literally could have walked there to pick up the food and come back four times in the time they delivered.  Food was pretty gross too.  Small portions, super greasy, and they gave us the wrong naan.  Seamless web should drop them as a vendor for consistently failing to comply with there estimated delivery times. Mine said 45-55 minutes and it took 2 hours and ten minutes.  I got my dinner at 10:00 pm.

Staff is very friendly. I have been here twice. We got the pizza and kabob the first time. Got the pizza just to see what it was like, it's definitely not their signature item. The kabob was solid and sides were pretty good.

Went again today and got the butter chicken. Very flavorful but wish it had some more kick to it. The chicpeas (chana) were flavorful and the naan is one of the best in town. We'll definitely go back. Solid place.

Today I wanted kabobs.  After trekking across the war-torn section of 17th St. NW, I finally arrived at the Sacrificial Lamb.  I was greeted by two good friends: Air Conditioning and Cooked Meat.

The man that was there greeted us warmly even though I was already warm.  I asked if the combination platter was a lot of food, and he said it was a good amount of food for one person.  He also mentioned that I would need a nap afterwards.  He was absolutely correct.

The service was great, I had the combination platter (two skewers each of beef, chicken and seekh).  The man behind the counter (assuming it was the owner) asked if I wanted chick peas.  I asked if I could get some as well as the spinach.  He then asked if I wanted rice, so I said sure.  What I got for $14.95 was six skewers of meats, one piece of naan, a scoop of rice with chick peas and a scoop of spinach.  All of the food was very good.  I will have to agree with other reviewers that the chick peas are f'ntastic.

I will definitely be going back there to try their other offerings.

One night I absolutely had to have some kind of Indian or Eastern-inspired dish. I also didn't want to have to go anywhere to get it. Off to grubhub I went and found this place listed. I saw for 14.95 I could get butter chicken, rice and chickpeas which was exactly the kind of meal I had in mind. I also tacked on some samosas for good measure.

About an hour later the food arrived at my door. I tore into my bag of goodies, starting with the samosas. They were solid, maybe not utter perfection on a plate, but they weren't overdone or *too* greasy and all around a good start to the meal.

Now I was ready for my butter chicken. Oh, the butter chicken. I consider butter chicken to be sort of like Asian soul food. When done right it is completely satisfying and this, my friends, was it. The rice was fine (it was rice) and the chickpeas were pretty fab, too. They also included a dallop of some saag paneer which was pretty good but I tend to like it spicier than they cooked it. All in all, the entire meal hit the spot, so much so I ordered again a week later.

This time around I got a double helping a chickpeas along with the rice and butter chicken. I like suprises and all but it leaves me wondering if I just got spinach last time because they were trying to get rid of it? Or they were feeling generous? Or the person doling out the servings didn't know any better? I was looking forward to eating it again so that was sort of a bummer. The butter chicken and chickpeas made up for it.

My boyfriend ordered the mixed kabob plate and while he seemed to enjoy it, I think the butter chicken knocks the socks off anything else I'd tried from there so far.

Also, not sure what it should be considered. The butter chicken and samosas were on the Indian-cuisine side of things but the kabobs were more Middle Eastern. I guess if you can't make up your mind what you want, then you've got a lot of options!

Ordered my food 90 minutes ago for delivery and it has yet to arrive.  Not impressed.  Never ordering from this place again, even if the food is spectacular.  How does it take 90 minutes to go 10 blocks.  It's not like I live in Clarendon or Fairfax.

This place was yummy nummy. Went in for lunch, kinda late 'round 2. Nobody there but me, the 'rents and some business folk.

Ordered up a beef kabob, lamb kabob, and chicken naan.

All were superb. Lamb (mine) came with green peas and chickpeas as well as a nice round of bread. The peas, both, were in a nummy sauce that I lapped up before I even paid attention to the meat. The lamb was tender and well seasoned. Quite good. Dad's beef was also flavorful, if a bit tougher than the lamb, but that's to be expected.

Mom's chicken naan wrap was nummy as well! Got a side of chickpeas and rice with hers.

All in all, a great experience. The owner even stopped by to ask if we liked the food. Yes!
