2 reviews for Sabrina Popp MD
I've been seeing Dr. Popp for over 8 years now and I must say that she is one of the most wonderful human beings on the planet. She's caring, observant, patient and most of all she really seems to KNOW you. In a world of doctors today that couldn't seem to care less about their patients, Dr. Popp stands head and shoulders above all other doctors in terms of remembering who you are and what your problems are. I often wish that she did therapy too, but you can't have everything.
Her office is a comfortable, calming environment and she always makes you feel at home, no matter what mood you might be in. Her techniques with dealing with meds are top notch and far exceed any experience I've had with any GP. Instead of just indiscriminately prescribing drugs, you have long, in depth talks with her about the ramifications, the side effects, and the possible problems they might cause. Again, it's refreshing in this day of impersonal, assembly-line health care. I can't say enough good things about her.
Unfortunately, at this time she's not taking any new patients, but I just wanted to sing the praises of a fantastic doctor.
Dr. Popp, Psychiatric Goddess.
It's overwhelming even trying to write her a review, there are so, so many nice things I could say, but really, all you need to know is that if you are looking for a psychiatrist who treats you with dignity and respect, like a complex human being rather than a cluster of symptoms, then I highly, highly recommend Dr. Popp.
I work all day with psychiatrists who are the "best in the business" and are wonderful physicians and people, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I received and will continue to receive better, more compassionate, more holistic, and more comprehensive care from Dr. Popp than I would from anyone else. Period. Few people practice medicine like this anymore. She is a treasure.
It's so easy as a patient--particularly a psychiatric patient, given the stigma--to be resigned to whatever level of care you're currently receiving, even when you really deserve better. When we first met, Dr. Popp said, incredulously, "Wow. It really doesn't sound like anyone's been taking you seriously." It was one of the most profoundly validating things I've heard in years. So, if you are in my place, getting mediocre care from a doctor you know deep down doesn't really care about YOU, then consider making the switch. She's covered by all Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans.
Though this may be a "heavy" sort of review, there was a lot of funny in the experience as well. Her office--49 Temple St.--is in this beautiful old building that, strangely enough (at least at this time of year) housed like every lefty political org in http://Boston--moveon.org volunteers were lining the hallways, sprawled out on the floor with a list of numbers and cell phones, making hushed (awkward) calls to voters; people from different campaigns rushed around frantically with balloons; they actually had big white boards with all 50 states color-coded-- I swear to God, I thought I'd stepped onto the set of the West Wing. Hilarious.
Past the frenzy, stepping into Dr. Popp's waiting room instantly transports you to a most comfortable, strange, and lovely hippie-nouveau sanctuary with overstuffed couches, teas, odd artwork and some sort of Chinese herb smell that was labeled with a sign. Thinking back to the de-humanizing atmosphere I was used to seeing a psychiatrist in, I really felt like I had died and gone to heaven.
Well, enough gushing already. Give Sabrina a call.
