I mean, I've ordered and eaten in here so many times I don't even know where to start.

This place is it. The best Thai food in Allston, and probably all of Boston too (Yes. I know Brown Sugar is great.).

Get anything here and it will be great. Anything. Also, they only take like 15 minutes to deliver (on a slow day).

Yeah Yeah Yeah, Thai Thai Thai.

I really like this place!  The woman who works there is extremely kind and was making sure that me and my friend were alright and gave us a personal heater to place next to our table. (we were sitting at a table right in front of the door and every time someone would open the door, a huge gust of 30 degree wind would hit us)

Note: The restaurant is EXTREMELY small.  I think there were about 4 tables (one 2-top and three 4-tops) I do not recommend for large parties because they will not have space for you.

Thankfully, the food came out pretty fast because we were starving.  I got chicken Pad Si Ew and my friend got the Pad Thai with Crispy Chicken.  Both were quite good and I would definitely go there again (and maybe get it delivered)

I was so excited to try this place.  I went in to order take out.  Just as I was being handed my bag...  the biggest roach decided to make an appearance!  Really!!  I was so shocked that I took the bag and walked out.  While walking and gagging I had to dispose of my purchase!

I know mice and roach are potential visitors in restaurants but I do not need to see them!  I think I have given up on Thai for awhile.  The trauma is too overwhelming!

So I can't comment on the location itself since I've never actually dined in, but their food gets a solid 5 stars (I won't give it a 5 since I feel I should try dining there first).

Ever since I started my "No starches after 5pm" diet I have been ordering their Som Tum (Papaya) salad and chicken satay almost 3 times a week!  Their som tum is soooo addictive and yummy!  The first time I ordered it I made the huge mistake of asking it "Thai spicy, extra extra hot".  I usually do this because most places in Boston don't make things spicy enough and I can handle suuuuper spicy...my favorite pepper is the Habanero yum!

BUT!! NEVER order it here extra extra spicy.  I had tears coming out of my eyes and my nose was running the whole time.  And yet I couldn't stop eating it  because it was just that delicious. MMM!  Love this place!  I've also had their Pad Sie Ew which was http://bomb.com and also their Ga Prao which is deeeelish!  I just wish their portions were bigger....but that's just me being a fatty...harumph.

Ranking all the Thai I've had in Boston, S & I probably clocks in around #2. The fact that it only merits three stars speaks to the quality of Thai food in Boston. The Pad Thai and Pad See Ew were both passable, but  certainly nothing to write home about. I do, however, enjoy that you can order them as part of combos that come with soup and a side. I'll take Tom Yum, Tom Kha Gai, chicken wings, and crab wontons, thank you! Oh, delivery's gonna take over an hour? For that price ($7.95 per special), I guess I'll wait...

Please sir, may I have another?
SO GOOD. My office ordered a bunch of food from this place for a staff lunch. I got the spicy basil pad thai and it was by far one of the best thai dishes I've encountered. It had the perfect amount of spice: enough to make my nose run a bit, but I wasn't crying about it.  I haven't been to the actual restaurant, so I can't speak to that, but based solely on their food, I intend to make this a regular lunch spot.

This is the best place for Thai in Allston.

Although the inside is super small, I actually dine in more frequently than I take out (I have a weird eating schedule, so it's never too busy). Everything I've had has been great- pad thai, pad si ew, pad ki mow, basil fried rice. I want to get more adventurous and try things off the menu that aren't so American, but what I've had is just sooooo good that I keep going back to a couple of staples.

The lunch specials are also a super deal, and the woman there is always so sweet. And the best part is, portions are huge, so there's always some to take home :D

I was referred to this restaurant by a friend almost 6 months ago.  I tried checking it out when it was recommended but she failed to inform me that it was a small hole in the wall place with only 4  tables.  With my luck, all 4 tables were occupied by other hungry Thai food enthusiasts.  We left and bounced down the street to eat elsewhere.

Friends and I went there this past Thursday night and WOW---we got a seat and didn't have to wait, probably because it was about 10pm.  Anyway, I ordered the larp chicken with sticky rice.  Told the waitress to make it extra spicy.  The thing came out spicy as shiet!  But it was soo good.  I think I drank about 2 glasses of water with it.  My other friends ordered chicken noodle soup, tom yum soup, and a stir fried noodle dish.  Everyone was very satisfied with their selection with no complaints.  I will also add that S&I offers items on their menu that other Thai restaurants do not offer such as the Thai sausage and a few other items.

Being that its a small hole in the wall with 4 tables and about 4 employees we did not have to wait for our food for more than 8 minutes.  I must say that's a plus for someone like me who wasn't on a date or with fufu friends that night.  If you ask about decor or ambiance, there is ZERO---AKA NONE.  And that's absolutely fine with me since it was clean, tidy and the food was delish.

In closure, I'd like to say this is my absolute favorite new quick pick Thai restaurant.  Sad to say but Dok Bua is now 2nd place on my list.  But if there's a wait at S&I I'm definitely taking a quick stroll down to Dok Bua.  I guess I could do take out but I don't live in the Allston/Brighton area and when I see or smell food I need to devour it right away.

I have not gone through the gamut of Thai restautants in my area, so I don't think it would be fair to give this place a perfect score.  However, it is sort of awesome!!!! My husband and I have claimed S & I to be our default location for take-out.  The prices are reasonable and the food is amazing!

It is not the greatest location to dine in, they have total of 3-4 small tables.  If you're not planning on having it delivered, I recommend take out and walk, or take the T ( it's right on an MBTA route ), to your nearest park, or dining venue.

I've been in the restaurant once (tiny) and gotten delivery once (via Foodler). A decent Thai restaurant but not as good as Rod Dee. The spring rolls and dumplings are pretty good, but the noodle dishes aren't that inspiring.

Prices are fair and delivery is an option (Rod Dee cannot claim the same). I may try ordering S&I again but since there are other Thai options, I may go elsewhere.

    This place is great!

This is my default Go to place at my apartment when we know we don't' want to cook, but know we want tasty takeout. I don't think we've EVER been disappointed by this place.

They regularly say it will take about an hour for delivery, and it almost never takes that long.

Ahhhh! I just wrote an entire review for S & I but I wasn't logged in to my Yelp account and it's gone.....highlights:

Delicious and a good deal -- delivery min. is only $10, compared to $15 at Dok Bua and Thai Place. Delivery charge is also less ($1.50 vs. $2-$3). My Pad See Ew dinner combo came with out-of-this-world Tom Yum soup and 2 cute spring rolls. The noodles were a little dry and the beef not as tender as it could have been, but it was still good. And the food came 20 minutes sooner than Foodler estimated. Yay.  This will definitely be my new go-to for Thai take-out.

"An hour and a half delivery?--We can't wait that long!"
"I wish we could take the Fiero, but Marshall has this insane 'no food rule.'"
"But Thai food, Lily... pad yong mao, tong kai ga, tai say ran..."
"Ugh! You're just saying random syllables and it still sounds delicious!"

Yes, I can thank How I Met Your Mother for driving me into the arms of S&I Thai.

The funny thing is that, on the whole, I'm not actually a huge fan of Thai food. It's not as though I loathe it or anything (that honor is reserved for okra and okra alone), but it's just not something that I often crave or seek out. However, a HIMYM marathon and those "random syllables" were enough to stir a serious jonesing within my stomach for a hearty dose of Pad Thai (my standard order on those rare occasions when I do get Thai cuisine). Yet because I don't tend to order it often, I had to turn to my beloved Yelp for a restaurant recommendation. My demands were fairly minimal: good Pad Thai, low price, fast delivery. Thankfully, the collective four-star rating from fellow Yelpers for S&I was spot-on in all these areas (also, thanks to everyone who has posted pictures. The food looked amazing and the restaurant itself looked clean, which was very influential in my deciding to try the place out!).

I decided to place my order through Grub Hub, which had a $10 minimum order and $1.50 delivery charge (not bad compared to many other places in the area), so I ordered a $6.95 dish of Pad Thai and a $3.25 serving of dumpling soup, which had also gotten good reviews. I placed that order at 5:14, and despite Grub Hub telling me to expect my food at 6:04, it arrived -- piping hot -- at 5:34 and in the hands of a very friendly delivery guy. Add to that the fact that both the Pad Thai and dumpling soup were seasoned, cooked, and portioned perfectly, and S&I quickly gained a foothold in my heart.

The next time I get to "Arrivederci, Fiero" in HIMYM, I expect I'll be right back on Grub Hub placing another order. (And funnily enough, the DVD is sitting on my shelf right now...!)

I have not found another restaurant in the area that provides such excellent, authentic ethnic cuisine at such a remarkably affordable price. $30 will easily feed four people. The food is rich in flavor, and could not be better.

I enthusiastically recommend S&I Thai for any thai food lover in Allston, regardless of whether you're on a budget or not!

I'm a fan of Laos food, and because of my high school friends, I crave for Laos foooood sooo often. I know this is thai food but I think they're pretty similar.

So I came here with my boyfriend to eat, we ordered:

Papaya Salad: I ordered without dried shrimp because I don't really like it. The salad was really yummy! I had to had some extra flavor to get it a little closer to laos style -- more lime, fish sauce and sugar. It was enough spice, but I wish it was a bit spicier

Yellow curry with beef: It was my boyfriend's dish and it came with rice. He enjoyed eating it.

Pad thai: While eating it, I didn't have the thought of "gee.. how much sugar did they put in?.. What on earth is in it.." It tastes just like how pad thai should taste like.

But I wished the waitress was a little nicer.. It seems like she's there because she HAS to be there, because it's family owned. Just my opinion..

Double date with a Thai couple who know where it's at = unique, authentic meal of dishes I can't pronounce and flavors my body will pine for in the wee hours of the night.

The restaurant only has room for 3 4-seater tables but we fortunately only had to wait 5 minutes for one to become available. It's definitely a take-out place but dining in has its charms. Like getting to hear your friends speak rapid-fire Thai with the owners and having the time to listen to them translate all the specials labeled in Thai.

    We got:

Moo bing - Grilled pork on a stick. Tender, juicy, delicious.

Som tum - Papaya salad that gets progressively hotter the further down you go due to the Thai-chili-infused sauce at the bottom. Thai chilis are sneaky like jager--their effects are felt slowly so you think you're better off than you actually are.

Pla tod - Fried fish. Like, a whole, spiky fried fish. Crispy skin, tender white meat. Watch out for bones because, like I said, this is a whole fish. No coddling fillets with all the bones picked out. Get ready to dig for your dinner.

Kang som - Orange soup. According to my Thai friend, this soup is on the rare side and few places offer it, so whenever he finds a restaurant that does, he has to order it. It was yummy with all the spicy-sour flavors you associate with Thai food, and fried egg with greens (don't know which) and plump shrimp.

Gra pao kai krob - Fried basil chicken. Not like Taiwanese crispy basil chicken (aka popcorn chicken) but strips of lightly-breaded chicken with a multitude of herbs and seasoning. Less basil-y, more composite herb-y, in my opinion. Definitely different.

So nice to not be the "authenticator" for once at an "ethnic" place. If you're looking for an authentic Thai meal and not lucky enough to have Thai friends to guide you, definitely use the above selections as a starting point.

    My highest compliment?

You know, when you get take out in the car, and you're driving, and it smells so freaking good....

2 of the last 3 times I've gotten takeout, I have stopped...
And eaten it in the car.
    Spilled on my shirt.
    Continued eating.

Less than a mile from the place.

This place is great for takeout!
Not so good for eating in though, cos its fairly cramped, and if youre like me and dont enjoy people watching you stuff your face yummy food, then its not for you: eating in that is.
I got takeout from here for the first time last week. We got the chicken wings from the app menu, and the roasted duck in basil sauce and spicy shredded crab dish.
I asked for everything spicy, the crab came out to be too spicy for me (i enjoy my spice) although the bf still thought it was great. The duck was good too. He also loved the sauce that came with the chicken wings, and ate a lot of rice with it. :) we will definitely be ordering from them again.

I work in the area and I am a HUGE Thai food fan. Recently we've been checking out more local places to get lunch and have been trying all the different Thai restaurants in the area. There are definitely a lot - but you need to go with S & I.

First thing - if you're looking for a nice dinner out, this isn't your place. S & I is pretty much just take out. They have probably two booths inside and the place is pretty cramped. However, being just a take out restaurant - their food is awesome!

What I'm a big fan of is their lunch special: soup, appetizer, meal and a small salad for $6.50. How can you beat that? Especially in this area!

I have to say, I am partial to pad thai and have tried there pad thai with chicken, tofu and their spicy pad thai with tofu. All are delish. I always get their golden triangles (fried tofu), and won ton soup. This is always a great option for lunch, great portion size and great price.

Their service is extremely fast. We've ordered for our entire office, immediately leave, drive 1.5 miles down the road and it is ready. I love it. I highly recommend this place.

One warning, however - I have only been to this place during the day, not sure how the area is at night but there are a lot of sketches creeping around...and that's at 11 or 12 in the morning/afternoon. Not sure if it gets better later on - but if you're a female, be prepared to be leered at.

This is the best place in the area to go for Thai.  I highly suggest all their curry plates, notably the Masaman Curry. For appetizers, go for the Edamame because it is never soggy, and I enjoy the sauce they provide with the Bangkok Rolls. They don't over-fry tofu which is a big bonus in my book. I also highly suggest the rice dishes for picky eaters.

The service is very quick and extremely friendly. I often order from Grubhub and my order is always correct (I specially request the meat be substituted with fried tofu). I suggest take-out/delivery only. Prices are more than fair.

S & I is the only place I go for Thai and feel 100% satisfied.

As long as you're okay with sticking to delivery, this place is great. Trying to dine-in here can be pretty hit-or-miss.

I found out about S&I through one of my Thai friends who happens to be a bit of a connoisseur for Thai places in the Boston area. Apparently this is the most authentic Thai you can get here.

I'm not sure I can verify that, but I do know that this place is delicious. While they're a bit too eager to push spicy food on you (or maybe I'm just a wimp), pretty much everything I've ordered from S&I, whether by choice or on their recommendation, has been excellent. I can't remember all the names of the dishes, but I can recall that the Pad Ga Pow was very tasty.

S & I is my favorite Thai delivery place. Why?

    1) They deliver within a decent amount of time. Thai Place took 1.5 hours last time I ordered from them. I almost starved to death.

    2) They are always friendly. Stupid Rod Dee hung up on me without even asking me for my address.

    3) The price is beyond reasonable unlike the growing number of Thai restaurants that charge $10 for a plate. Their Thai ice tea is also only $1.75, compared to $2.50 or more at other places.

    4) It's tasty. Try their spicy chicken wings, best at any thai restaurant. it's not dry like most other places. Their vegetable pancake is clog your arteries good. The typical dishes like pad thai and pad si ew are also solid.

It's not a place you want to take a girl on a date though. It's very small and dingy looking. I have no problem with that though as long as the food is good and the service is friendly :) Wow, writing this review makes me want to order Thai food, which I think I will do right now!

This is really a 4.5 star review...

There are things that just make me want to do stuff...like wanting to critique the hell out of something just because they have a ribbon on foodler to yelp about inferior product and how much something tastes like crap.

That's what I was hoping to do the first time I ordered from S&I. My joy of critiquing the hell out of it was replaced with the joy of "Wow, this is really really really tasty food!"

Here I have had the Seafood Paradise, which was tasty, the basil pad thai, which was excellent in regards to enough flavor to punch you in the mouth, the spicy chicken wings, Vegetable tempura, and the crab ragoon.

Out of the list the Basil Pad Thai is probably the best for a spicy pad thai. My girlfriend and I were raving enough about this dish that my roommates wound up ordering for themselves.

The spicy chicken wings, to be honest, I coudln't tell if they are spicy, or had the same amount of spice as the Basil Pad Thai. I do know they were slightly more spicier then the Seafood Paradise, which to it's credit is the first dish with scallops that I actually liked the scallops. All the seafood on the dish was cooked perfectly, and the sauce did not distract to much from the seafood itself.

The Vegetable Tempura was cooked perfectly, not soggy, not too dry. Awesome for dipping in soy sauce.

My only complaint, and thus a half star, is the Crab Ragoon. It's a bit on the sweet side, and I don't like sweet crab ragoon. To be honest most of the time the crab ragoon might save a place and make me order from a place that had mediocre food again. This place is the exact opposite.

I just spent a month eating 7 or 8 meals a day in Thailand shooting a new food TV Show. S&I is the closest thing to being there. The som tam, larb, sticky rice and gai yang are all excellent versions. Last week I ordered a guay teow noodle soup in my poor Thai asking for basically all the possible ingredients including ground pork, thin rice noodles, pork balls, fish cake, blood cake, tripe, pak boong (water spiniach) and moo krob (very naughty deep fried pork belly). In Thai cuisine it's all about the condiments. A smattering of sugar, chilli, fish sauce, vinegar and ground peanuts and all I was missing was a plastic stool and the traffic along Sumkumvit Road. When they have the Thai green fanta soda in stock one simply couldn't ask for more.
I'm am searching for fluent Thai dining companions to translate the yellow laminated Thai language menu.

So good! Have had the Massaman, Pine Nut Chicken, and Spicy Tofu Pad Thai - all delicious, flavorful, and generous portions for the price.

A word of note: I've noticed that at lot of times when Thai places in Boston indicate that something is "spicy," it's usually very Americanized with only the slightest tiniest hint of spice. I LOVE that when S&I Thai indicates that something is spicy, it actually has a great kick to it. Not so spicy that you can't taste any of the other flavors, but a wonderfully harmonious spicy punch. Tender, sensitive, delicate tastebuds be warned.

The 5 stars is strictly for the food, I've never been able to sit down and eat there because it is always full of Thai people eating... BIG CLUE!!  I've eaten Thai food all over the US and this place turns out the best.

Try the Tom Yum or Tom Kha Gai soup, both are excellent.. The Larb Kai is so good, and if you order it extra hot it will take you to a whole new level of being. S & I is great cause when you ask for it extra extra hot, they will comply and blow you away!!  Also, the Pad Ka Pow is a must have if you like it spicy, I could eat it every night. Great seaweed salad, spicy chicken wings, pad thai, I've never been disappointed. I want to go there now.

I've never eaten inside the restaurant, since it's so small, but I've done the take-out quite a few times.  The only thing I've had was the pad thai (my favorite), which never disappoints.

It's a good deal, fast, and the employees are very friendly.  It's worth a try.

Best restuarant in the area. Food is excellent, prices are very reasonable, and the staff is nice and prompt. The chicken noodle soup is insanely delicious.

The place is tiny, can maybe fit 15 people. Take out is prepared quickly and is always ready when I come to pick it up. I don't see how this place can get any better.

My boyfriend and I made the trek here from Cambridge after reading Serious Eats' post on the crispy duck basil. I should have known from the "to-go" part of the restaurant name that this place would be a hole in the wall with no liquor license, but the food more than made up for the lack of atmosphere.

The menu is overwhelmingly long but dirt cheap, so we tried a few different dishes. We had the vegetable spring rolls and chive pancake to start with. The spring rolls were a little denser than I'm used to, but the flavor was good. The chive pancakes were beyond tasty. Then, I had to try that crispy duck basil while my boyfriend had the Pad Ki Mow. I was too focused on my dish to really comment on his, but the duck was amazing: perfectly crisp on the outside, tender in the middle, and mouth-numbingly spicy (to be fair, I was warned about the spice).

The only real downside of S&I for me is not being able to enjoy a Singha with my Thai food! I'll be back, but probably to get take-out next time.

I was excited to try S & I as I've heard good things and read a lot of great reviews on here. My roommate and I order almost every single Sunday night from Thai Place in Allston and we really love it but thought we'd switch it up last night. First of all - it took about an hour for delivery but that wasn't a problem. We called every Thai spot in Brighton/Allston and it seems they were all in the same boat. Sunday is apparently a popular day to get your Thai fix.

We ordered a variation of one of our usual combinations - Crab Wonton, Pad Thai, and Pineapple Curry. When the food arrived it was warm but not hot, and the portions were much smaller than expected.

The Pad Thai looked a little funny - darker than I've seen it in the past but the flavor was pretty good. It could have used more chicken but over all okay. It did, however, have this lettuce/mayo-ish mixture in there which I did not care for. The curry was pretty tasty but I wish there was more of it! It was a creamy red sauce with pineapple and mixed veggie. The veggies were a tad overdone but the sauce had a good flavor and we did eat all of it. The real disappointment of the night were the crab wontons. Deep fried cream cheese seems kinda tough to mess up but it really wasn't good. The wonton was very thick and flaorless (unlike other more delicate wontons I've had from other Thai places) and there was hardly any filling in them.

I normally do not give a bad review, but I thought I'd do the rest of you curious Yelpers a favor on this one. Maybe it would have been a better experience on a less busy night but I don't think we'll be trying this one again.

Second best Tom Yum I've ever had, and I've had a few -- at a random hole in the wall Thai restaurant! Then I went back for the best Tom Kha! Oh, and did I mention it was part of an $8 dinner special! They'll deliver to Allston for not much more. This can only be the foundation for an excellent business: we'll bring you delicious food for cheap! We've stuck to standard Thai restaurant fare so far, but I can see we'll be rewarded for branching out now that they've proven themselves.

Now all we've got to do is convince the servers that we won't explode if they give us Thai spicy food... but this takes a while. Oh well. They should recognize me soon enough.

Edit: Yep. Just went back for crazy pork / noodle soup. Didn't know what parts of the pig (might have been some duck too) I was eating, but it was awesome bacon-y goodness.

Double Edit: Tripe soup with chilies, lemongrass, kaffir lime, cilantro and scallions. Yum.

So they have updated the "picture is worth a thousand words" concept. They have a printed menu with pictures and a takeout menu with pictures of every dish. Double plus good. Uber Useful/Funny/Kewl. I love Larb but had never tried theirs, the Larb Ped pic sold me. When the nice young woman took my order she said "You like it spicy", I replied "Yes, I do very much." full well knowing what that would get me. It had a wonderful texture and was probably just a shade or two shy of "Thai Spicy". I started with their Tom Yum soup. The soup like the more pedestrian Pad Thai and Chicken Satay #1 son ordered are just so much better than 99% of the Thai in MA. I want to pick the whole restaurant up and take it back to Metro West/Central MA with me!

    * still the bestest, all the others are pretenders.
    * parking was crazy on a busy Saturday afternoon.

My date was a DC transplant, and had not stopped lamenting about her perceived lack of good Thai food in Boston.  So when our evening required a last minute backup plan, I thought takeout from S&I and a good movie would do the trick.

It turns out takeout was a good plan, because S&I's dining room isn't the most intimate in the world.  The three or four tables are packed in pretty tightly, and I elbowed the poor woman sitting near the takeout counter in the back of the head twice while placing my order.

But service was prompt and friendly, and 15 minutes later we were homeward bound with Pad Ki Mow and Lychees Curry in tow.

My date primary complaint about Boston Thai food, besides limited menus, was that the food was too sweet and not spicy enough.  She reminded me of this as she took her first bite.  Then a second.  Then a grin.  Then she reached for her water.  Success!  Once she could speak again, I heard nothing but rave reviews.  And the lychees curry - spectacular!  Wash it all down with a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc (another reason takeout rocks) and top it off with some lychee froyo, and you have yourself a near-perfect summer meal.

Needless to say, I'll DEFINITELY be back to S&I!
