If it wasn't for dine about town, I wouldn't have come here. At $35 for a 3 course meal here, that is a decent bargain for this place. My husband is a big meat eater, and he really enjoyed his perfectly cooked, medium rare steak. Of course, when it is bathed in butter, what's not to love?
Bread basket was wonderbread with whipped butter; don't waste your stomach...
I had the vegetarian plate ($21 for 3 sides)-- and enjoyed steamed broccoli (the most boring item on the menu), sauteed spinach which also comes in a pool of butter, and a 1-lb baked potato. The husband had creamed spinach which was everything it should be. Dessert was something chocolate, which was relatively unmemorable (meaning, I can't remember what it was, so it couldn't have been very good).
Definitely a nice atmosphere; reminded us of Peter Luger in Brooklyn. Dark, like a smoking room. Quick and attentive service.
Also, we came in business casual attire, but there were certainly others around wearing jeans with rips and sweatshirts. I doubt the "dress code" is enforced.
May come back for next year's dine about town, hah.... -

This rating was very tough for me to decide between 3 and 4 stars. The reasons I decided on 3 stars are as follows:
-The steak was not as good as it probably should have been. Don't get me wrong, it was a good borderline great steak, however I don't think people come here for a good to borderline steak. I think people come here expecting an exceptional steak.
-The steak was over-priced. I didn't feel the steak was far superior to say Outback, Black Angus, Cattlemens, or any other chain steak house. I am convinced that if any of those aforementioned steak houses laid their steaks on a bed of butter and served on a super hot plate the steaks would be near identical.
-An 8:45 reservation for two, didn't have us seated until after 9:05. Yes, we were on time, in fact we arrived an hour early and had some drinks at the bar.
-The drinks were overpriced. $7.50 for a bottled Stella Artois beer is a little much, as was the $10 for a glass of Llai Llai Pinot Noir (basically a 15 dollar bottle of wine at a store).
Some positives: The steak was cooked as ordered. This is something that I don't find very reliable in the Outback's of the world. I prefer my steak Med-Rare. This is exactly how it came, if I had gone to Outback or the like I always order Medium because the tend to not do Med-rare correctly.
The staff at all levels (bartenders, hosts, wait staff, bus staff) was very courteous and attentive.
The restaurant was laid out nicely and there was enough space so you weren't on top of another party, or having to listen to anyone else's conversation.
Overall I just feel like the value was not returned for the cost paid. I would much rather spend either much less by going to Outback or the like, or even better spend $10-15 more (per steak) by going to Alexander's and having an exceptional steak. -

My boyfriend & I had reservations for 5:30pm. We were celebrating our 3 year anniversary. We were seated right away & our server Jack was very attentive and just an all around great server!
Our table was decorated with rose petals, & other servers as well as other employees would pass us & greet "happy anniversary!" The restaurant does a great job at making any occasion you're celebrating special..
On to the food. We started off with the crab cakes. YUM! & My boyfriend ordered the ribeye cooked medium, and I ordered the petite filet well done. I was afraid it would be dry but not at all! Very juicy, and just delicious! We also had a side baked potato as well as the creamed spinach & two drinks!
$150 (before tax) for two, NOT BAD! Definitely will be back!! -

Steak cooked in butter? Ummm... YES PLEASE.
It was 6:30 pm, and my girlfriend had to call a rain check on our dinner date because of an emergency, so I called up my foodie friend who's always down to have dinner, and he made some last minute reservations here. Parking was fine (albeit, I'm sure it's much worse on the weekends), we were seated right away, and service was quick.
I ordered an ice tea with my meal, and our server was nice enough to always bring me a full glass when the one I was working on was running low. It's really nice when you don't have to ask for something over and over again. I think the guy's name was Jack. He was great!
The food was really amazing. I get my steaks medium (don't judge me), and sometimes, it can be a little dry. Not so. It was cooked to perfection. I got the filet + lobster tail, and it was amazing. It came with drawn butter for the lobster.
Mood was good. Not too stuffy, but just nice enough to let you know that this isn't just a regular restaurant. We were able to have some great conversations without feeling like we had to be quiet as to not offend those around us. All in all, if you want to have some good steak without having to wear a dinner jacket, this is the place to go! -
Review from Raquel Y.
Yes just like everyone else I came here for DAT (Dine About Town). 3 course meal for $34.95 at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse... seemed like a deal to me!
Corner of Van Ness and California. There's Valet up front for $10 or parking garage on California that's about $6 an hour I think. We just found street parking around the corner.
Boyfriend and I made a reservation at 8 PM on a Tuesday and we waited for 15 minutes. We were starving, 8 PM, random Tuesday night, and we have to wait another 15 minutes?? What's the point of making a reservation then?! The hostess also said "thanks for waiting" rather than "sorry for the wait" which I would have much preferred. Minus one star.
Other than that, everything else was great. Food, wine, server (Tim) were excellent. I'm not even a steak person and I enjoyed it!
I got the salad (actually this was a little bland), 8 oz petite filet, and dessert. [http://s3-media1.ak.ye...]
Boyfriend asked our server he wanted the 16 oz ribeye upgrade for $15, but Tim suggested just ordering from the regular menu because it would also be $50 but he would have more choices for salad, dessert, and side dish. Great suggestion, but what a sneaky way of converting to the regular menu Ruth!
Tim explained to us that the steak here is the second best steak in the nation (don't quote me on that) and he went on about how great this prime steak is. So we got it and he was right! I don't usually like steaks because of the chewiness to it, but filet was juicy, tender, and declicious! I ordered medium rare and it seemed a bit on the rare side, but it came in such a hot, sizzling plate that I just dabbed a piece onto the plate and it cooked! Haha.
Anyway, this was such a big meal that by the time the dessert came, we were already full and plans on doing something after dinner were shut down.
Worth the money.
Worth the fine dining experience.
Worth coming for some excellent steaks (even if you're not a steak person ;) -

The food was excellent. The waitstaff was great. The hostess just ok. The bus staff a little to fast - we had our salad for about 90 seconds before they asked if they could take it.
Overall, I think it's overrated and overpriced. This particular Ruth's Chris was somewhat sub par compared to others. -

Ruth's Chris is synonymous with fine steakhouses. They're world reknown. To be honest, I didn't think their steaks were all that great.
I went here for a business dinner and ordered the rib-eye. It was a nice cut of beef. Prime of course. But, it was not seasoned and lacked flavor. For a good cut of beef, I don't like to mess around with it either. Pepper and salt is all I need and throw it on the grill for a nice char. I didn't get that here. I also ordered medium rare. I got medium.
Overall, not very memorable. -

Came for DAT but ended up ordering off the standard menu...
Although the DAT has great options, if you compare it to the regular menu you have more options and the price is still relatively comparible (check the "classics" section).
That aside, the food was amazing! I prefer Ruth's over Harris' and even HOPR. Compared to Ruth's, the others just seem stuffy... but all else being equal, Ruth's food just simply outshines the others. Although I don't think they dry age their meat like the others... not sure.
My bf got the walnut and pear salad, ribeye, and creamed spinach. I had the house salad, the filet with shrimp, and walnut and butternut squash for a side. And for dessert we had chocolate mousse cake with berries and a sweet cream sauce. Are you drooling yet??
We each had a drink at the bar prior to being seated and brought a bottle of wine ($15 corkage) and our grand total was $140 (before gratuity). Not bad... We'll be back! -

Came here once with a friend for my birthday. This was a nice place, but hard to find parking on any weekend. So the four of us came here and ate steaks, an order of crab cakes and 2 glasses of wine. When the bill came, it was WOW!!
The service was great and the place was clean. The crab cakes and steak was cooked perfectly. Just anything special I would say no. If Black Angus or Outback pushed their customer service to be better and physically cleaned up the place, I would say it is about the same. -

I was really excited to see Ruth's Chris on the Dine about Town list. My bf and I were really looking forward to coming here but it was a bit of a let down. Don't get me wrong, nothing was wrong in particular but we were both expecting more.
We both got the prix fix with the salad, petite filet (8oz) and the chocolate cupcake. The bread was really good, salad was ok, and the dessert was something you could pick up from Safeway. Now onto the star of the meal: the filet! It was good, just nothing special. I remember eating at a Ruth's Chris in Maui a few years back and thinking to myself "Wow! This is the BEST filet I have ever had". No such luck this time. Since it's not exactly cheap, not sure that it was really worth it. The service was excellent, our waiter was really attentive without being pushy. They also have valet parking for 10$ which can be handy. -

I always passed by here but finally tired it recently, it was a great steak that I got to enjoy! I can definitely see why people gave great reviews for this place!
Food:
Rib-eye steak- broiled steak with butter is moist juicy and buttery goodness. A lb of deliciousness!
Creamed Spinach- So GOOD!
Mashed potatoes- Very good
Chocolate cheesecake- amazing cheesecake! -

If I could have this steak's baby and eat all the baby steaks, I would. THE BEST steak I've ever had in my entire life. It even trumps the prime rib at House of Prime Rib. I KNOW! they're different! but Ruth's Chris is just...better. I come here at least once during dine about town every year and I haven't been disappointed yet.
I dont know what they do to their cows back there (maybe deep tissue massages daily?)...but this is seriously MELT IN YOUR MOUTH steak. The quality, the texture, the consistency...what more can i say? And i think season their steak with some drugs in there because after eating this steak, you'll be happy, relaxed, and sleepy (the wine doesn't help either).
The service has been good each time i've been there too...not Gary Danko good...but still up there. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about wines too so if you are a novice, they can help pick out a perfect wine to go with your steak.
Their medium rare is a little more rare than i like but if it's not perfect for you, they'll be more than happy to throw that baby back on the grill so it comes to you exactly the way you want it. Plate sizzling and all.
I'm drooling just thinking about it. I just went there last week and I'm going again this coming weekend. Can't get enough. -

Pros: serving staff complimentary. Ambience as expected. Price as expected.
Beef quality as expected but flavor unsatisfactory. Seafood unsatisfactory.
Cons (reason for two stars): 1. Filet was unreasonably salty 2. Lobster was unreasonably salty as well and much to our disappointment not only tough but not fresh. Minuses perhaps due to franchise ownership? Cannot recommend and will not return. For consistent quality, overall service and upscale ambience, Harris' continues to rank above the more pedestrian Ruth Chris. -

I've been to Ruth's Chris a few times so I guess it's only proper that I grace them with a generous, well thought out, truthful review. Van Ness Blvd is a prime location for one of the best Steakhouses in San Francisco. It's San Francisco and it's going to be an all day adventure looking for parking so just factor in $25 for valet including tip.
Appetizers you can not go wrong with are the Tempura Onion Rings, Calamari (lightly fried and tossed with a sweet and spicy Asian chili sauce) , or the Mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat (Broiled mushroom caps with jumbo lump crab stuffing with Romano cheese). The Caesar Salad was out of this world (fresh crisp Romaine hearts tossed with Romano cheese and a creamy Caesar dressing. Topped with shaved Parmesan cheese and fresh ground pepper).
I made the mistake of underestimating my appetite and ordered a petite Filet when I should have originally ordered the Filet. Our server was very accommodating and replaced my petite with a full size Filet without any issues. With my Filet ready I also had a loaded one-pound baked Idaho potato with Creamed Spinach in a New Orleans style sauce. (A Ruth's favorite). My Filet was dreamy. So tender and mouth watering. The Filet was cooked to perfection and by far one of the best steaks I've ever had. The right amount of seasoning on a sizzling hot plate will make any grown man blush. The ambiance was very grown up and upscale. Very inviting with a attentive friendly wait staff. I can not say it enough, Hands down one of the best Steakhouses in San Francisco. Keep up the excellent work for I will be back soon. -

It was love at first bite! Hands down our most favorite steakhouse ever.
My husband and I spent our anniversary dinner here. Since the restaurant was alerted it was our anniversary, they placed a bunch of red flower petals around our table, to make it an extra special dinner...and it was from beginning to end.
Our server, Joshua was very attentive and friendly, and knowledgeable about the wines and the various menu options. To top it off, our anniversary is during their Dine About Town period, which is an opportunity to eat a 3 course meal (Salad, Entree and Chef's choice dessert) for $35 a person. NOT BAD AT ALL for a higher end restaurant. We expected to pay about $150-$200 for our meal and ended up spending less than $100 (before tip). Remember how I said we get a chef's choice dessert with the Dine About Town special? Well, Joshua made sure we also got an additional chocolate dessert with "Happy Anniversary" written on it.
For our entrees, we ordered the 16 oz. Ribeye and the 8 oz. Petite Filet, with creamy spinach and mash potatoes for our sides. Like I said, LOVE AT FIRST BITE. I like my meat dead and leathery (aka Well Done) and usually this means my meat is on the drier side. However, Ruth's Chris was able to make my meat well done, but yet still juicy and absolutely delicious. It was a PERFECT dinner (and I never have said that before on any of my reviews).
**TIP: For all those who have not been to Ruth's Chris but want to try it someday, go during their Dine About Town periods to get the most bang for your buck. They offer Dine About Town every year during the last two weeks of January and the first two weeks of June* -

I was super excited to eat here, I think it's been over 10 years. Dinner for four $320...not bad since we had drinks too. Started off w a dirty good martini at the bar before we sat down...I must say they are super generous w their pour. :) We had Cobb salad (yummy) I likes the fried onion on top! We shared mushrooms, asparagus, and their famous hashbrown. My steak of choice...petite filet w blue cheese (medium rare) BUT it was more RARE when I got my steak.
Here comes why I gave this place a 2 star...I threw up 6 times when I got home! I dunno what I ate but it did not sit well. It could had been a bad steak...I don't know. My other 3 friends were fine, it was just me!!!! I have to assume it was the beef! Bad beef!!
Sorry Ruth, u prob won't see me coming back for another 10 years! -

Overrated and not worth the price ($200 dinner for two - includes a cocktail each and an additional glass of wine for me).
Porterhouse for two: we ordered it medium rare- it came out rare. When you are ordering such an expensive piece of meat, it should come out perfect every time.
House salad: we shared the house salad, which was standard greens, mini tomatoes, croutons with vinaigrette.
Natasha (I think that was the hostess' name) seated us in the bar area for dinner, but we had RESERVATIONS. What's the point of making reservations a week in advance if you are going to get seated next to the bar and in front of the TV. BIG FAIL on her part and hugely contributed to us not having a positive experience.
Pluses of the night - 1) Arturo, our waiter rocked. He was very sweet, funny, and attentive. His humor partially made up for being seated in the bar area. 2) The potatoes au gratin was delicious (cheesy and extremely creamy). -

Dine about town recently brought me here. It's been good 5+ yrs since I last came here. We always have a great dining experience here. From service, atmosphere, to the food. Enjoyed the rib eye and jumbo shrimp which both were great. Steaks come on a hot plate so if you get medium it may turn to a well in 5 mins. Creamed spinach was superb or maybe i just haven't eaten it for awhile. Definitely recommend and will be in the future.

We missed our cruise departure and we ended up here. Even though I was pretty disappointed at first, I can't complain about dining here because I'm a huge carnivore when it comes to steaks! I ordered the filet mignon with mushrooms as the side and it was impeccable! I love mine extra bloody and as soon as my fork dug into the steak, the juices were seeping out. Love it! My friend had the steak and lobster and the lobster was buttery and tender.. The best I've had yet!
Service was on point as expected. Our waitress helped me find a great bottle of wine that went perfectly well with our entrees. We were there for over two hours and she was patient with us the entire time. I can't expect any less .. This place is a must! -

I really like this place. It has really good steak and I love that their plates have butter on them and then it sizzles as they put the steak on. The waiter we had, I think Daria or something was extremely kind and was very fast at refilling our drink. The porterhouse for two was very good, and the lobster was tasty as well.
My favourite part was the creme brule. It it perfectly made and tastes delicious. This place is pricey, but it is expected when you walk in because it is Ruth Chris. -

Why do they tout their corn fed beef so much? It's not really impressive. I'd be impressed if they had 100% grass fed free-range beef. Whatever the case, the filet was not tasty at all. No flavor. Very dry for a medium-rare. Had a chalky feel to it. Maybe if it were juicier it would have had a better mouth feel and taste. Will not be coming back here again.
Service was great though! But it doesn't save bad steak. -

Steak House is what this is, so when you come...order steak! :)
My friends and I came during Dine About Week. What a great deal! I got the filet mignon. Oh baby!! When I asked for medium rare it came out just as it should! Red, tender, juicy, melts in your mouth. I chewed slowly and made sure all the juices reached all my tastebuds. YUMMY!
For the sides I tasted the whipped mashed potatoes which were creamy and buttery. I also tasted the creamed spinach which was lightly creamy and really delicious. Usually I don't like creamed spinach because it just is gross, usually mushy and too creamy. But this stuff was really good, like and fresh.
The start was a mixed green salad which was fine. Nothing special. But we had to ask for extra dressing because they only put a dollop on.
Dessert was a chocolate mini cake with a raspberry frosting and a creme de pot with fresh berries. I ate everything!
It was alot of food in small portions but all in all it was the perfect amount of everything! We were all stuffed! And service was excellent!! -

I'm always weary of chain restaurants but Ruth's Chris does not disappoint. Each time we have eaten here our steaks come out superb.
On our last visit the hubby and I each had a ribeye medium rare (along with the fully loaded hash browns). Our friends had the petite filet each and shared a baked potato. Since I've discovered good meat I never need sauce for my steaks anymore and consider it a blasphemy when I see people adding it to theirs and ruining a prime piece of meat. No sauce needed here!
On a previous visit, we shared a cowboy ribeye along with fully loaded lyonnaise potatoes. We also started off our meal with the barbecued shrimp which was extremely tasty. We have yet to try dessert here but I would like to eventually try the caramelized banana cream pie.
I know there are other steakhouses in the city but Ruth's Chris is definitely a winner. -

I have been here in the past and typically its a 5 star but this last visit lowered it.
I went here to treat my friend as a x mas gift. House of Prime rib was my first choice but it was filled till 930 so i decided to go to Ruth Chris
I made reservations online via yelp which was cool. got a slot for 730. heavy traffic so i didnt get there till 815. I actually called at 705 to move the reservation to 8.
We got seated quickly in a corner booth.
Bread water got there and then we got our server.
Not sure if it was hunger or just the attitude of our server but the rapport between paying customer and waiter was off the whole night
We ordered some wine to start off. I know typically at places like this, they want you to dress up but some dude in a plain black tee was seated not too far away from us but our waiter andrew treated us like we were some kids that were going to share 1 plate. Like my money wasnt good.
We ordered a $38 bottle of white wine. ehhhh horrible recommendation. When we were looking to order another bottle of wine andrew kept trying to sell us $98+ bottles. My friend who was paying for the drinks said hey my budget is around $40 what bottles can you recommend. Andrew said not too much. My friend is actually a bartender and learned about wines so she was trying to quiz the waiter on what to order for wine.
I think andrew got mini mad at some point so he said "none of these wines will really go well with what you already ordered" So we got hard drinks instead.
He even told us he has been serving here for 15 years funny thing he def looked really young to be working for 15 years there.
Andrew friend came in and quarter of the night he spent talking to them. Lucky for us they got sat right behind me.
Food wise
Free bread really really good and fresh
Calamaria ehh 4/5 star
Spicy lobster def has a kick very good 5/5
white bean chorizo soup which was recommended by the waiter ehhh ok
my rib eye steak super good 5/5 i am sure the butter sauce is going to kill me later in life
the mushrooms ehhh ok i think i should have ordered mash potato
the Free desert with the set meal ehhh not too good.
You would think a party of 4 that put up a $500+ tab would get better service but i am guess this place gets like $200 a head average so we were toward the low end of their clients. Next year going to book House of Prime Rib early -

This use to be my favorite steak house around...I have changed my mind this past year...Don'y get me wrong I'll never say no to coming here but I'm enjoying getting to know the city and all the wonderful restaurants it has to offer!
The experience is always nice. The service is 5 stars, The restaurant is nice and classy.
A couple of my favs...
The Barbecued Shrimp
Sautéed New Orleans style in reduced white wine, butter, garlic and spices served on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes
Make sure you have enough bread to dip in the sauce.
The Ribeye
An outstanding example of USDA Prime at its best. Well marbled for peak flavor, deliciously juicy.
Crème Brûlée
The classic Creole egg custard, topped with fresh berries and mint.
They have a huge wine selection.
You can never go wrong here but once a year is good enough... -

definitely a fan of this place. They've got the best in town. I love it when the plate comes out hot with melting garlic butter on top of the steak. It's smells soooo good. The portions are more than enough. The only thing i don't like is that the steak comes ala carte. You have to order side dishes.

My fiance and I and his parents came her on Friday night with a reservation for 6:45. We arrived on time, but for some reason the host didn't see our reservation. I explained that I made it on open table and was going to show her the email confirmation, but then she found it and said something about 1/2 of our party already being there, which was not true because we all arrived together. Either way, they weren't ready for us and had us wait in the bar. We had a drink while we waited, and shortly after got seated in a really nice corner booth.
Of course we went a little crazy with the ordering, but everything was delicious. We started with the crab cakes which were stuffed with crab - no other fillers, and they were really good. A little expensive though for 2 small cakes. My fiance and I shared the wedge salad, and his parents shared the caesar. Both were really good - the dressing for the wedge was amazing. Pure bleu cheese!
We ordered 4 sides, creamed spinach, potato gratin, asparagus, and sauteed mushrooms. All were good but the asparagus seemed a little over cooked.
My fiance and his dad both ordered the rib-eye, which was this huge steak. I had the filet and lobster, and fiance's mom had the filet. For some reason, our waiter messed up and brought my fiance out a lobster tail instead of his steak. He didn't have to wait too long for her to bring the steak. My lobster was a bit overcooked, which I'm thinking is because we were waiting for his steak to come out before eating, and they keep their plates at 500 degrees. I shouldn't have had them take it out of the tail for me.
Delicious food and will be back! -

In my opinion, Ruth's Chris is THE place to go for succulent steaks. My favorite is the cowboy ribeye - always so full of flavor and juicy. If it weren't uncivilized to do so, I would gnaw every little morsel off the bone.
Although SF is a lot closer to where I live, I prefer the Walnut Creek location because they're more lax with the dress code and parking is so much easier. But both locations offer the same outstanding quality. -

When my friend suggested meeting for dinner at Ruth's Chris I was a little hesitant. Not a huge fan of chain steakhouses. But I was pleasantly surprised! Ambiance was nice and quiet on a Wed night, it has that old steakhouse feeling with TV's for sports watching, and the bartender was very friendly and fast.
We didn't have the steak but we split the stuffed chicken breast, a salad, side, and the caramelized banana cream pie. Plenty of food for 2 people and all were tasty! And the guy's steak next to me smelled amazing! Next time Ruth...
Stuffed Chicken Breast - really juicy and tender. Not overly stuffed.
Oven roasted free-range double chicken breast stuffed with garlic herb cheese and served with lemon butter.
Steak House Salad - fresh and crisp. I felt so healthy!
Iceberg, Romaine and baby lettuces with cherry tomatoes, garlic croutons and red onions.
Caramelized Banana Cream Pie - actually friggin' awesome!
Creamy white chocolate banana custard in our flaky crust. Topped with caramelized bananas. -

I had heard really wonderful things about this place and I have to say they lived up to all expectations. The staff was wonderful and the FOOD was to die for the steak was wonderfully tender that it was like butter melting in your mouth. We went there for a family dinner and they had a smaller menu for my daughter and she loved every bite. We will be back!

They put rose petals all over the table to say "happy Anniversary"
The food was amazing, i actually had the Lobster instead of Steak and it was amazing!

When the BF and I first got together, he promised one day, he'll take me to Ruth Chris, where the steak is awesome and you can't get in with jeans. Six birthdays later, one day came (totally not his fault - it's all me).
My birthday fell on a Tuesday this year, so reservations were a snap. We were quickly seated and had a long discussion over the menu. Our server, Ryan, was helpful, friendly, and personable. I felt like he loved everything about the restaurant and was excited about the food, which in turn got me excited about the food. The BF gets so happy hearing the sizzle of the plates. With Ryan's help, we decided we wanted to do the deal of salad, entree, and dessert, with extra sides. Here's what we ordered:
- Seared Ahi Tuna - LOVE. This is a definite must get if you're into raw seafood. So flavorful. It seriously just melts in your mouth like butter. I think I've said that in past reviews on other things but this definitely fits the description.
- Sizzlin Blue Crab Cakes - Nothing but pure, delicious crab. In the size of a small cake substantial cake. So much substance. So much crab. Yummy.
- Caesar Salad - Mine. I don't eat salad but it came with the deal so why not? Typical Caesar salad with tons of cheese but it was huge! I ate a third of it, yet it looked like I didn't even touch it.
- Steak House Salad - His. He said it was okay, but that my salad tasted better.
- Petite Filet with Shrimp - Mine. Shrimp and beef was cooked perfectly. Beef was tasty, but I felt that it was a little too salty for me. Side of creamed spinach for me. Yum.
- Ribeye - His. I liked his more. Tender and flavor was on point. Side of mashed for him. Perfect.
- Molten Chocolate cake - Mine. Came with a candle, compliments of Ryan. It was totally delicious, but I wish it had more ice cream cus it was so chocolatey and thick. And after a meal like that, I couldn't finish my cake. Sad face. But I would've taken a couple of more bites if there was more ice cream.
- Raspberry Sorbet - His. He loves raspberry and he loves sorbet. Win win for him.
Oh and the other thing that I absolutely LOVED (other than the apps, haha) was my drink: Fresh Berry Martini. Blueberry + vanilla vodka goodness. So smooth and yummy. It was perfect. I would've definitely ordered another one. I should've ordered another one. I'll order it when we come back...when one day comes around again (: -

I hadn't been to Ruth's for a long time, so decided it was time to treat myself to a nice dinner. Since I was alone, I opted to sit in the bar area. Big mistake!! It was 6:15p on a Wednesday, so the restaurant wasn't in full-on dinner mode yet. There were patrons about the restaurant, but it was mostly empty. There were about five people at the bar and other gentleman in the lounge area. Ok...scene set.
I was seated at a table by the window and took a look at menu. Once I had decided what I wanted for dinner, I waited for someone to serve me. And I waited, and waited, and waited. After waiting for some time, I went back to the host Alex, to let him know that I was still waiting for someone to take my order. I wasn't sure if there was a server or if the bartenders served the lounge. Many apologies were said and Alex let one of the bartenders...who I saw helping the other gentleman in the lounge...know I needed service. I don't remember the bartender's name, but he had a bald head. Excuse #1...Alex tells me the bartenders they didn't know I was there. Huh? They didn't see me walk in with the you? And on the flip side, you being the host didn't let the bartenders know that someone was seated in the lounge??
So, cocktail order and dinner order have been placed. I step away to go wash my hands and return to see that three more patrons have come to sit in the lounge area. I overhear one of the ladies say she wants to order a Strawberry Basil Gimlet, which happens to be the same drink I ordered a few minutes before. Then I notice that the bartender that took my order first brings the gimlet to the other woman. He then comes over to my table with bread and tells me my drink will be right up. Huh? Didn't I order my drink first? And right up was about five minutes later.
My dinner arrives and was fabulous as always. The bartender comes to clear the table and I request a dessert menu. In the mean time, a few more patrons have come into the lounge and there is now a server on duty, which for some reason seems to ignore me. I figure it may be a territorial thing, since he hadn't been waiting on me to begin with. So I get his attention to ask if he could take my dessert order even though the bartender waited on me. He writes down my order and says he will let the bartender know what I want.
Dessert comes and is a winner. But the poor service really left a bad taste in my mouth and the tip I left reflected that. As I was leaving, I mentioned to the host Alex about the poor service. Excuse #2...one of the other servers/ bartenders called in sick, but they are usually pretty good servers otherwise. I would have bought that excuse if I would have received a "sorry to keep you waiting" at anytime during the time I was there. But everyone acted as their service was status quo.
Needless to say, I will not be returning to Ruth's anytime soon. If I do, I will make it a point to be seated in the main dining room as I have done in the past. Next stop, Morton's. -

I thought I'd review Ruth's Chris before Bobo's, both of which I visited in the past month.
I made my RC reservation online, a couple of days ahead. I got the day and time I wanted (important, because this was my fiance's birthday).
When we arrived at the restaurant, I was reminded of the steakhouses I grew up eating at in Chicago (a city that has the steakhouse genre DOWN). I didn't know until we were seated that Ruth's Chris is a chain. Because it's so lovely and cozy in there, this only bugged me a teeny-tiny bit.
The host was responsive, though he had to sort out a couple of reservations. We only waited for a few minutes and then he got us on our way.
Cute surprise: I'd said on the online reservation that this was my guy's birthday and on our table there was a sprinkling of "Happy Birthday" confetti. Somehow it wasn't gauche, just sweet.
Our server was fantastic. She checked on us often, but didn't hang around TOO much if you know what I mean. It was a very romantic evening.
DOWN TO THE FOOD!
I had the spinach/walnut/some-kind-of-dried-fruit-with cheese Official Salad of San Francisco. Can't lie, it was not good. The spinach leaves were bruised and limp.
But the steak...O M G. I had the small filet, rare (of course). I'm not kidding, it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. That 2,000 degree oven was a good move for this spot. So juicy and flavorfull, and perfectly seared on the outside, red inside. EXACTLY how I ordered it (it's kind-of amazing how many places in SF don't know "rare" from "medium").
We ordered creamed spinach, mushrooms and mashed potatoes for our sides. They are SINFUL I tell you. Delicious.
For dessert, we ordered the little chocolate cheesecakes. They added a little scoop of ice cream and put a birthday candle on my finance's. And the server winked to him and said, "Don't worry, we're not going to sing." The cheesecakes were RICH and neither of us could finish ours we were so full.
Next time I go to Ruth's Chris I'm going to skip the appetizer/salad and just go straight in for the steak. That IS their thing, after all. -

My family went here for our Mom's 55th Birthday. Totally worth the money and experience. The only reason for the minus one star was that I felt that the food took a bit too long to come around. But we busied ourselves with taking photos.
The steaks were on point, really juicy and the sides were also delicious. I had the halibut which totally satisfied my cravings. For dessert, I had a helping of two thanks to my brother.
The service was great, they were really friendly and courteous. Even with such a large party plus a young child they were very kind to us. They even had confetti set out on the table and a little bit of decoration since they knew it was a birthday dinner! -

It's no surprise there's a dress code, but when the guy at the host podium ousts your party because somebody in it has a tank top on, I expect the ouster to happen apologetically, if at all. It didn't.
What IS inappropriate is having a stuck-up dress code at a restaurant in San Francisco -- and a stuck-up humorless individual getting off on running people out of the restaurant. As if a company that can't even generate a dime of earnings per share per quarter needs to be running people off.
Lack of respect = no further visits by me.
