Palm Springs, CA
My husband and I have been to the Irvine and Honolulu Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on numerous occasions but surprisingly never this location. Last night we decided to use some gift cards that we received from our bank and made a reservation for 6 p.m. We were seated promptly in an alcove, which was very private. Since we were also celebrating a belated anniversary we were greeted by the General Manager Jacob who surprised us with two glasses of bubbly. His persona was so gracious and welcoming!
We started off with stuffed mushrooms and then were greeted by our waiter Lamarr. Lamarr was friendly and knowledgeable and introduced my husband to a new craft beer. I stuck with a glass of Pinot Noir. We then had the prix fix menu (which is such a bargain at $41). I started with a wedge salad and the husband had the market green salad. The wedge was fantastic not too much dressing on it and just the right amount of blue cheese crumbles and bacon. My husbands salad was light and very tasty. We both then had the petite filet with three grilled shrimp and shared the creamed spinach and butternut squash. We were so full that we had our deserts packed up to take home.
Everyone at Ruth's Chris was friendly, knowledgeable, welcoming, and they accommodated our every need.
I would totally recommend this location again and again.
Again thanks to Jacob and Lamarr for making our evening so wonderful, your service is spectacular.Listed in: Palm Springs Area, Fancy Steak Parlors

Just amazing. My friend raved about it but I just couldn't see the value... until I went in 2008. Omfg. Wow. This is the greatest food and service you will ever have.
I now try to go at least every year for my birthday with said friend but manage to think of lots of other special occasions to go. My wife, parents, brother, and everyone I recommend it to love it. Just too good.
Go to any Ruth's Chris'. Trust me. Just go. -

I have never had a bad experience here. The steaks are so amazing I once get the Porterhouse for Two for One and actually finished it. I will come here over and over again.

Salmon and scallop special wasn't great however the filet's were fantastic! Lamb was flavorful but not as tender as in the past. Service excellent as usual - Rachel was on top of things.

Went for dinner and was so impressed!! The service was excellent and the food was so good. It had a great menu even for those who aren't big meat eaters. The sweet potato casserole was amazing!

Oh my gosh what a wonderful place. The four of us went for happy hour.We found the appetizers and had 7 of them they were all great. Sorry we never made it to dinner to full. To top it off the price was a nice surprise .. But the most important thing is the customer service is over the top. Jennett was great and our waiter Darren was so great and a riot . He had an outgoing personality. Over all was so Great!! You have to go it is a must!!!

I have been to a few different Ruth's Chris locations and most recently their location on the Big Island of Hawaii. This location is Palm Desert is very nicely decorated inside and felt quite elegant. There was not much room in the lobby area if you have to wait for a table which I thought was kind of strange. The waiters and bus boys are super attentive to your needs and I never felted ignored in any way. I did however get a steak that was no where near how I asked for it to be cooked. I usually just eat it anyway because I have a weird thing about sending food back after watching the movie "Waiting" haha. But I did send it back afterall and by the time I got it back my other two friends were done with theirs. I understand mistakes happen but both of their steaks were not really cooked how they wanted either but they just ate them anyway. All they did was comp our upgrades as we did the 3 course meals which came out to a comp of a whopping $6 on a $200 bill, wow thanks! I will go back to other locations but I think next time I am out here I might give one of the other steak houses a try and see if they know how to cook a steak the way its ordered.

I had the filet and lobster tail combo. Both were excellent. Service was on the high side of mediocre, was expecting a bit more. The place was loud and the acoustics were difficult to hold a conversation. I've never had this at a steakhouse but the broiled tomatoes were ridiculous - by far my favorite side this time.

As always, great steaks and pricey food. If you are a carnivore, please visit at least once. I'd go to Sullivan's first, but if they're too busy...

Third time is the charm right? Wrong. My third time to this restaurant in PD was awful. The petit filet steak was good but I ordered it "medium rare" and it was definitely "well done". This annoys me because they are supposed to know how to grill a steak but obviously not. In the interest of my fellow diners I decided not to request a new properly cooked steak. The shrimp was overcooked but the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach was first rate. The chocolate cake with ice cream was below average at best. The most annoying part of the evening was the waiter decided to fill out his own tip. Since I was in company I decided to not make a scene. But I will absolutely never allow this again in this or any other restaurant again.
Exc - Side dishes.
Good - None.
Ave - Service
Poor - Steak and shrimp overcooked, desert, waiter
WOULD I GO BACK? YES BUT I WILL SEND THE STEAK BACK AND DECIDE FOR MYSELF WHAT THE TIP IS.1 Previous Review: Show all »

My brother wanted steak, so off we go...
In palm springs for a few days to celebrate my dad's birthday...
The service here was nice && the waiter knew it was my dad's birthday as well which is good, the first bottle of wine there is no corkage fee...so we brang our own ...naturally ...
My mom && dad also ordered drinks on top of that -__-
I think they got a pomegranate martini, && it was really good !...that they got it again...
Now comes the food....
We all got steaks of course... but I decided I wanted a bit of both && shared a steak and lobster combo with my dad...
It was pretty good, steak tasted a litttleeeee too chewy for me && the lobster was A-OK...I've had better before
Some of the other steaks were not cooked to how my brothers wanted it, which if they're a steak house, I'm assuming they should know exactly how to cook it to the right temp.
All of our sides were good, we got asparagus, mashed potatoes (heavenly), and mushrooms.
My mom (veg) got her salad, which I think she enjoyed & her french onion soup which she loves...now she asked the waiter if it was good, and if he'd recommend it...&& he said it is good...but some people complain about the salt...so she decided to give it a try even though she hates salty french onion soup...
Only to her dissappointment...it was BEYOND salty ! If customers complain about it, why wouldn't you change it ! I don't understand this was like taking a gulp out of the ocean....minus the flavor...but still WAY too oversalted, I have no idea what they did back there ! That was our biggest complaint for the food...
On to dessert....the birthday thing they brang out was good, && my brother ordered a cheesecake which was yummy && I think I got a sorbet or something...which was pineapple...also very good
I gave three stars for some of the plates like french onion && steak because they need to improve them && not keep it how it is, service was excellent, but I live in LA, I've had better steak && lobster before haha -

Steak - salty but at the right temperature. I've had better and expected more
Brussel sprouts - way overdone. Mushy.
I disagree with all of the 4-5 star reviews out there. -

We sat at the bar after a round of golf so can't speak to the full service area of the restaurant but it was just a typical bar. Service was decent and the food was ok.
I've been to 2 different Ruth's Chris' and for some reason I end up getting fish. This time it was salmon. Not bad but it was kind of swimming in oil. Not unbearable but why do that?
The large shrimp cocktail appetizer was good for shrimp cocktail standards and the shrimp were quite large.
Maybe next time if there is a next time due to business (I wouldn't go to a Ruth's Chris or other steak chain on my own volition) I will try out their steaks. -

So I went here with a group of coworkers for happy hour. The bartender was great, the drinks were tall & stiff. I really liked the bar area, the seating area is limited but if you get there right at the start of happy hour you can get a great seat. Our food was Delicious, our bar server was alright, nothing special, but like I said the bartender was great....and that's whats important to me!!
My only complaint was the hostesses, they seemed like they were bored, and they were very unwelcoming...almost cold to us, they definitely don't add anything to the overall experience. -

I have been disappointed by the Ruth's Chris in San Francisco and I have enjoyed the one in Arizona and Jacksonville, but this location made me realize why I really like steak again!
I dined here for dinner when I went to the BNP Paribas Tennis Tournament in Indian Wells. The ambiance was amazing, and my server was just fantastic. The way they paired a special wine with our meal was fantastic. I really enjoyed my server and took to heart his recommendations. It wasn'st just someone reading me a script but he was really educated on the wine and the cuts.
Anyhow, if your'e ever in the area, I definitely recommend you check it out! Great food, great service, great environment! -

Wow!!! We made our reservations online for our honeymoon & when we arrived they had reserved the best seat in the house for us, with a confetti heart on our table! The service was top notch... They completely took care of us from start to finish. The food was incredible & everything we could ever hope for. We will definitely return for our annual anniversary in the future.

The original is always the best!
I have been to so many steakhouses in the last 15 years. Mastro's, Cut, STK, and a plethora of other WONDERFUL steak places across the country. RC's is Mama of this genre. She owns it. Here's why:
1. Steak is cooked to your order!!!! I spoke to my amazing waitress CAROL (ask for her) and told her that I usually like my steak mid rare but most places waaay over or under cook. (just look at reviews for other places--always over/under cooked.) Carol said she would take care of it and order it rare plus w/ a note that it should be rarer rather than mid. WOW!!! IT CAME OUT PERFECT. WOW. If only I had my phone, so I could have taken a picture, carried it with me to other restaurants. and sent a picture saying "THIS IS WHAT I WANT! WHY IS THIS SO HARD????
2. The shrimp cocktail was what I remember as a kid when I was allowed to have dinner with the adults: BIG, perfectly chilled, peeled prawns, slightly spicy cocktail sauce. It is only 4 prawns so don't share!
3. The sides are simple and just what I love. There's no added bull balls or crow's egg. It's just simple, happy, tasty, yummy, good food. -

Hate most of the Steak house chains. Morton's and Flemming's are just the worst of the lot.
Having had a bad experience at Ruth's in Calgary I was some what skeptical about spending an evening at another Ruth's establishments.
Happy ending. This location is top notch. Service was splendid. Steak was perfect.
Not to happy with the salad though. Greens with a blob of salad sauce plopped on the top.
All in all I would say when in the Desert; Ruth's is a go. Far superior to Morton's which is really crap and a disgrace to the restaurant industry. -

Wow...steak will never taste the same. My wife and I came to this Ruth's Chris for our anniversary. It was our first time trying this restaurant. Man were we blown away. Food was exquisite! Lamar was our server, and he was a great one at that. Made it easy for us since it was our first time. I had the filet mignon and my wife had the ribeye. Both were full of flavor and cooked and as we ordered them, medium rare for me and medium for my wife. We will definitely be back!

I don't understand all the negative reviews. Our experience here was no different than any other Ruth's Chris location. The staff was great, our steaks were cooked as requested, and we felt as satisfied as other locations we've been to. The location itself and atmosphere isn't as nice as their Beverly Hills or San Francisco locations, but I chalk that up to the intense heat and the more casual attire patrons have because of it.

My little wifie suggested that we go to someplace nice to celebrate my first-place win in a book review competition, and I suggested either Burger King or Ruth's Chris. She opted for the latter.
Well, the place is pretty posh, and everybody greeted us with enthusiasm. Warm bread and butter was brought to our table immediately and Mike, our server, was as friendly and helpful as if he was one of the family. Maybe even more so, considering some of my relatives.
Anyway, they have a meal deal at either $39.95 or $49.95 which includes a salad, choice of four entrees and a small dessert. If you are really on a tight budget, they will split the meal for you if you ask. Nothing there captured my fancy, so she ordered the meal with a ribeye and I ordered a New York strip steak off the regular menu. I wanted to try the sweet potato casserole so I ordered that, too. Now, we possibly could have split the ribeye (like we did the salad, and they brought out two salad plates for us) but I have given up on red meat. I like it well-burnt, while she likes hers medium-raw. I suppose they could have cut it in two before cooking it, but I didn't think of that.
Well, our steaks came out exactly the way we like them and we did manage to eat the whole thing. Yummy.
But, you absolutely HAVE to try the sweet potato dish, covered with chopped up pecans! I took one bite and said, "MMMMM!" It is a delicacy!
Dessert was a small cup of chunks of pineapple, strawberry and kiwi fruit, with a small creme brulee' (minus the brulee') which we shared. It was just enough.
For $100 plus tax and tip, it's not something we would do every week. But you could get out the door for about $50 if money is really tight. If you have a special occasion to celebrate, I don't think you could go wrong with Ruth's Chris.Listed in: Groovy goodies & delectible…

I thought I didn't like steak. I don't like steak. This place is amazing. I mean it's so expensive that I would never go there and pay myself. But I was being treated to a bachelorette weekend dinner so hey, why not. The steak is still sizzling when it's served and it's just so perfectly seasoned. The sides were delicious (sauteed mushroom, spinach, brocolli, mashed potatoes, layonaise fries (idk how to spell that). The wine list is really a semi-novel. And the staff is really friendly. It's a nice dining experience.

Ruth Chris rocks! What planet are some of these people from? Salad sauce? Salty onion soup? Don't order if the waiter says it's a little salty! Go to RC in Del Mar better than RC downtown San Diego. Definitely the best upscale steak hotspot anywhere!

Part of having an exellent reputation is how a restaurant handles the unfortunate circumstances when they occur. Dinner last night, we were seated promptly, we had reservations. The table placement, was less than perfect, I was bumped twice by wait staff and heavy traffic by the table. No one intended to bump me, but couldn't be helped. The manager quickly responded to our request to be reseated. We were then given a booth. Our waiter Jason, was wonderful. Gave us 3 wine tastings, so we could select the right wine. I had the Rib Eye, which was amazing, cooked to perfection. My husband had the Filet Bone in, which isn't very often found. His steak, was the worst!! Unable to eat it. Chewy, unable to cut it, something was very wrong. Selecting a Prime steak is not 100% guarantee of perfection. No questions asked, another steak of his choice was offered. He declined, felt it was too late to continue with waiting for another steak. It was deducted from the bill. My point is that, this wasn't typical of this restaurant. But, what is, was the way they handled unfortunate circumstances. So, will we go back, yes. That is why the 4 stars. Make things right and the customer remembers.

P-H-E-N-O-M-E-N-A-L!
My meal was comprised of the following:
-Black Cherry Cosmo
-Crabtini = Will return for a happy hour just for this item!!
-Chop Salad = Will return for a happy hour for this item as well!!
-Medium prepared Butterflied Petit Filet with Blue Cheese Crust
-Glass of House Special Cabernet
-Sweet Potato Casserole
-Potatoes Au Gratin
-Glass of Dark Muscat
-Chocolate Cake a la Mode - Super yummy vanilla ice cream.
Ruth's Chris is now my fave steak place. The only "okay" items were the Muscat and the Chocolate Cake. But they were more than made up by the "melts in your mouth" buttery filet.
Seriously, run to this place for steak. Save up the money and run.Listed in: Top Restaurants

Came for happy hour since their website says 4:30-6 Monday through Sunday. Arrived ~5pm and ordered some drinks only to realize that there is no happy hour on Saturday. We finished our drinks and left for Roys (does have Saturday happy hour). They need to change their website if they are not going to have happy hour on Saturdays. Service was fine and the drinks were good but I wasn't planning on spending over $20 for two coronas.

Went here to celebrate my Mom's birthday. I had never been and was a guest of her friends. I liked how the wait person explained what made Ruth Chris exceptional..and different from other steak places! They had a prixe fixe menu which had great choices.
Our wait person was Carol who was excellent. All service was very attentive and helpful. Manager even came by to say "hi"..
I had salad ( Pancetta) which was lightly dressed and OK..but the salmon was GREAT..melt in your mouth, with roasted green beans, also scrumptious. Dessert was berries and chocolate cake which was yummy. The portion size was great as it was just enough.
I ordered a cadillac margarita. I tasted it and it tasted more like margarita mix..yuk..I only had a few sips..but Carol picked up on it and asked me how it was and I told her. She ordered me another one. It was better.
I couldn't eat all my food so I got a doggy bag..and they have "high quality" ones!! Never seen this before..had the rest of my meal the next day..and it was still tasty!
The only down side wa the booths. Very tight squeeze..and I am not large! -

I've been somewhat disappointed by the restaurants out in Palm Desert. This place, although pricey, at least serves up a satisfying meal. I usually come here for the filet mignon paired with a nice glass of red wine.

Over the top! Having been to all the prime steak houses here in the desert this is the best yet. Service is very attentive and the manager Tim is a great guy and easy to talk to. They made our anniversary dinner special and sat us in a very cool high back booth with a great view of the dinning room. The steaks just melted in mouth and the salad and sides were perfect. I would would recommend and we will definitely return.

Not impressed at all. I've been to other Ruth's across the country and this was by far the worst experience I've had. Was very excited to go there to enjoy a nice dinner. Went here for my mother in law's birthday. Made reservations for 7:30pm and were seated promptly in the back right corner room. The hostess sprinkled the table with confetti, indicating that it was her birthday.
Waiter came up and was borderline rude, no personality. Wife and her sister ordered the veggie item, although asked if they could sub a salad for one of the veggies and the answer was no. Wine list was crazy expensive. Cheapest Cab by the glass is $10 for a crappy red. Started with their wedge, which was tasty, but a little too much dressing.
For entree, I ordered the Strip medium and it was meh. No flavor at all. Side of mashed potatoes, also no flavor. Our waters and wine glasses remained empty for a while, as it seems the waiter forgot about us. Waiter never offered anything for her birthday, even though we told him up front about it. I wasn't looking for anything free, but at least acknowledge the birthday.
Bottom line, if I am dropping $300 plus at your restaurant, at least give me something good in return. At least give me good service. Will probably not be going back to a Ruth's again, definitely not this one. -
Review from Roxy H.
The service I have recieved at Ruth Chris in Palm Desert is top notch... It's always nice to go back to a resturant and have them know you and your drink (because I always forget!).
As with any Ruth Chris, the food is always phenomenal the only thing missing for me is that the place needs some live music or something to make things a little more exciting and maybe put in a patio! Very boring ambiance that is outdone by Sullivans and other local steak houses.. -

Love the food. BEST Steak you will ever have. Their martinis are ambrosia from that gods, knocks me off my feet every time. You MUST have the sweet potato casserole! Then comes the service. This would be 5 star rating if they could get their act together. I've been to all of the Ruth Chris in SoCal and this one by far always has the WORST service! If your in the area, its a must, but if your going to be traveling to get here, go to the one in San Diego (BEST) or Pasadena if you coming from the IE!

Let me start by saying I don't know why it says "Ruth S Chris" when it's "Ruth's Chris." Cmon. A classic steakhouse for a classic town.
Here's how my visit went:
Upon arriving, we were told we'd have a fifteen minute wait. It was about a half-hour. During that half-hour, we noted the following things:
-The decor is plain bordering on abhorrent. Straight out of the 80s. Like the dining room of an elegant nursing home.
-The clientele also looked, for the most part, like the dining room of an elegant nursing home. I mean, I know Palm Springs is not exactly hipville, but seriously, this place was all about dining up. It was like the Red Lobster crew saved their social security checks and then got together to go out for their one expensive meal all year and this was it.
-The cavernous dining room was so loud, that even the Loudest Man on Earth, who was seated next to me while I waited for my table, had to shout EXTRA loud to be heard.
Honestly, I decided to leave. It looked so bad. And I went up to the hostess to tell her I was leaving. But then she told me I was next and apologized profusely for the wait and we decided to stay. And 30 seconds later, a funny thing happened.
My dining experience did a complete 180.
Never have I gone from the ridiculous to the sublime in a matter of moments. First, we were seated at the best table in the house, a small booth (one of very few) tucked away in its own tiny den, and mercifully quiet. The menus were full of this and that and what-have-you, but obviously it was all about the steak. Our server was very knowledgeable and ran me through the cuts. I ended up going with a classic T-bone.
And lo and behold, the steak arrived like 5 minutes later. It was incredible how fast it came out. I have a suspicion that management told them to push our orders because we had complained about the wait. But either way, it was:
The Best Steak I Have Ever Eaten.
Now, I am by no means a connoisseur. But I have been eating meat for several decades, and I know a good steak when I taste it. The New York side of the T was much better than the Filet side, and luckily it was substantially larger, too. Rich flavor, RICH flavor, firm but easy enough to cut, done perfectly to the rare side of medium. Served on a 500 degree plate in sizzling butter. It was just perfect. The potatoes and asparagus were whatever. They were fine. But the steak was just absurdly good. The first bite made me instantly forgive the negative ambiance and subtle upsells by our server. And halfway thru, the manager came by to personally apologize for our wait, and I told her how well worth it that wait had been.
Will I go back? Yes. I will wear earplugs and blinders, I swear to God. And I will order the bone-in Ribeye then, and sit there like Tommy - deaf, dumb, and blind; chewing until that perfect, perfect meat is gone. -

I've been here for dinner before. Generally, pretty good. The steaks are great, not as good as Morton's, but better than the rest. Wine is stupidly overpriced, so just bring a good bottle and pay the corkage.
I am writing today about the bar, and the happy hour. The short version is that it is okay. Several small plate selections and drink specials. The Onion Rings are fat tubes of grease. You may like that, some do and I get that. It's just that I'm thinking I should be shitting right now instead of writing this review. I also had the BBQ shrimp. It was very rich (the sauce it is bathing in) and I'm not sure the shrimp were completely done. Perhaps this is the reason I have the urge to visit the bathroom. In any event, nice place, friendly employees, just not as warm as say, well, Morton's. I'll come here for dinner again, but probably passing on the happy hour...Listed in: Best Happy Hour in the desert

Let me start by saying I'm not often impressed by higher-end restaurants. It has to be REALLY something special for me to pay $150 for a meal for two. Most of the times my husband and I have dined in a "fine-dining establishment" we have been disappointed. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is definitely an exception to this rule.
We went to Ruth's Chris for my husband's birthday this past weekend. I surprised him with a trip out to Palm Desert (about 50 miles from where we live) and dinner at this steakhouse. We started with the calamari. If you're looking for a traditional, deep fried, calamari with marinara sauce, you'll be disappointed. Their version IS deep fried but it's served in a sweet and spicy (though I couldn't taste any spice despite the server's announcement while serving that it was "hotter than the summertime") Thai sauce that was so delicious I couldn't stop eating it!
All of their meats are served a la carte so it means that if you want a salad or side of any kind, you'll have to order that separate. The waitress did say that they were big enough to share so we ordered one Caesar salad and a sweet potato casserole. The salad was good--nothing spectacular but decent.
We both ordered the (16 oz!!!) new york strip steak (medium rare). We were told that the steak was fired in an 1800 degree double broiler and served on 500 degree plates--NO JOKE!! The steak was delivered to our table SIZZLING and we were instructed to hold up our napkins in front of us in case it splattered.
Let me just tell you...this was THE BEST STEAK I've ever had. Well, pretty darn close if not the best! It was hot, tender, full of flavor and DELICIOUS. We both agreed that if we had it to do over again, we definitely would have skipped the appetizer (though good) and gone directly for the meat.
The sweet potato casserole was fantastic as well but much more appropriate as a desert! Delicious!
All in all, this was the BEST fine dining experience we've had (save Hell's Kitchen and that was FREE!).
We both highly recommend Ruth's Chris Steakhouse!
