Nothing more I could add than what has already been said below.  Just wanted to post to say that this is the best steak house I've been to in the entire Chicago area.  Although Gibsons on Rush is a close second.

The food is wonderful, the service is five star, and their drinks are well made.  Great atmosphere for a romantic night out or celebrating a major life milestone.  It's expensive, but you get what you pay for!

Wow!  That's one hot oven they cook their beef in!  1800 degrees?  Plate coming to your table at a mucho caliente 500 degrees?  You'd think such high temps would render the meat into an inedible mass of charcoal, and you'd be wrong my friend.  What you get is a nicely charred, tender, tasty piece of heaven on your plate.

My buddy and I dined here on a recent weeknight and were warmly greeted, promptly escorted to our waiting table, and immediately offered cocktails.  And when I'm in a steakhouse, my cocktail of choice is an Absolut Martini, straight up, with blue cheese olives. They make a very good one here.

Knowing what was ahead of us...the steaks and a couple of side dishes, we reluctantly took a pass on appetizers. Our waitress, Tracy, was friendly, funny, and knowledgeable about the product at Ruth's.  She explained that the steaks are seasoned with ONLY salt and pepper, and butter. The butter gives the meat an extra rich flavor. And she explained the oven cooking temperatures and cautioned us on the hotness of the plates. She shook my martinis for me at tableside too.

So, I had the boneless ribeye, my buddy had the bone-in "cowboy" ribeye, and we split two side dishes...a sweet potato casserole and spinach au gratin.

While the price, and my doctor's orders, preclude me from being a regular diner here, I would always consider Ruth's Chris Steak House when the evening calls for a special celebration, like a birthday, a promotion at work, a wedding anniversary, or maybe a bachelor party.

Is it better than Smith and Wollensky? I don't know...I haven't been to Smith and Wollensky.  Is it better than Capital Grille? Again, I don't know, haven't been to Capital Grille.  Is it better than Gibson's?  In some ways, it is.  Yes, I've been to Gibson's on several occasions.  Ruth's Chris is different.  I think the prices are bit more reasonable at Ruth's Chris than at Gibson's, and the quality is about the same. Until I try Smith and Wollensky, Capital Grille, and a couple of other notable steak houses in the Chicago area, I'll say that Ruth's Chris, for the money, is the BEST steak house in the Chicago area.

    Outstanding Rib-Eye.

Very friendly and helpful staff.  Excellent scotch list, great wines, and fantastic food.  Tried the calamari (sensational) and the Rib-Eye Medium Rare (really outstanding).  Great overall experience.

Strongly recommend if you happen to be in Northbrook, IL.

I was very excited to give this place a try, as I love trying different steak houses and heard many good things about Ruth's Chris' famous Butter Steaks!

So, i went to this place for the first time on my birthday, it was a thursday so it was nice and low key.

Once we walked in and was greeted by the Hostess, she looked up our reservation and immediately asked, "so, who's birthday is it?"  ...  that really shocked us!  (since we didnt specify such details on the reservation)

So, as we looked at each other, trying to figure out how the hell she knew that...   And at the same time she was scanning both of our faces, I was trying to figure a way to deny it cause i really didnt want any happy birthday celebrations at the restaurant, like having the staff come sing to you!   She took one look at my puzzeled face, which was actually my thinking face, and said "happy birthday" (did i mention i was also bad at poker?!)!

Anyway, I said, uhm thanks and left it at that, clearly not interested in any of this, and then we were seated.

It was a nice place, tables not too crowded, quiet, perhaps romantic.

We orded this prefix meal for $39.99.  Came with an Starter, Entree w/ 1 side, and Dessert.

Of course when the waiter was asking us for our drink order, I asked him if the Steaks from this special were any smaller then the "normal" entree size :)   And he said, no, it's the same size.   ok, perfect.

For the Starters, I had the Steak House Salad and my girlfriend had the Watermelon and Mixed Greens Summer salad.  My salad was just a nice mixed greens salad.. it was fine, no complaints.  On the other hand, her salad was a huge plate of seedless water melon squares (4 very large squares) on top of a mixed greens salad.. it was pretty damn good watermelon... super sweet too!  The chef must really know how to thump watermelon to tell if it's ripe or not :)  It was really good... and i think we would come back just for this watermelon salad.

Next was the Entrees.  I had the regular Filet and she had the Surf and Turf (with petite filet).   The steaks were cooked exactly right and pretty good, but I have to say I might have preferred a little less butter on it... they definitely over did it on the butter, but that's what they are known for I guess.

For the sides, we had green beens with roaster garlic, and sautee mushrooms, and actually those were also drenched in butter...  dont come here if you're on a diet!

For the desserts, there was only 1 choice, strawberry shortcake with chocolate and pecan truffles.   however, when the waiter came back with the plates, the first thing he asked was "so, who's birthday is it?" ... MAN, wtf.  All I was thinking was, no, we're not going to do this...   but, what he ended up doing was just placing the larger plate in front of me, put a candle on it and lit it up, and said "happy birthday" and left us alone... very classy and handled exactly how I wanted it.. low key.

So, overall, I thought the steak was good, cooked right, tasted pretty good, but drowning in butter, so it should taste good.  Water melon salad was a very nice surprise, and the service was excellent.

Not sure if i have the desire to go back, it was expensive and not sure if i like the steak that much.  And would be more expensive if that deal wasnt going on too since everything is a la carte....  Cafe Lucci's still has a better steak, tho i still have my gripes about them.

I visited this Ruth Chris for the first time tonight. The staff was courteous - when staff is helpful and attentive, it makes such a difference!

Well, we visited for Restaurant week w/7 adults and two toddlers. We went earlier at 530, so it was quiet when we got there. Thankfully, they gave us a small room which helped as there was less stress in worrying about the toddlers' behaviors.  Both boys were well-behaved so it was no problem. They got to walk around inside the small room, so another plus.

I ordered their house salad, ribeye (cooked medium), and had their dessert symphony.

House salad was fine - nothing special to report. Was not the best but not the worst - just fine.

The steak was delicious. so tender. And oh! So juicy!!! Which is what I wanted for tonight. Typically I order filet but tonight was totally feelin some juicy steak! Yes, I got it and it was good.

Dessert symphony = mini-cheesecake + dark chocolate bar w/nuts. Not sure why, but the cheesecake was especially good tonight (I'm typically not a fan of cheesecake). Chocolate bar was good.

I would definitely come back again... :)

I'm definitely a meat eater, so going for a steak the day before thanksgiving sounds like fun for me.  We were the first two in our party of eight, but we were able to be seated post-haste.  Our table was ready when we walked in, and sat down to peruse our choices and the wine list (which is extensive, by the way).  Our server was kind enough to take our drink order before our guests arrived, which was awesome as well.

Once our guests arrived, we started figuring out who would order what, so as not to have too much of the same things at our table (gotta love sampling!).  We ordered 3 appetizers, two sides, and steaks [and a couple seafood plates].  I was so full of food and butter and wine that I was very sleepy and ready to roll my way home as soon as dinner was finished.  Fantastic staff, nice atmosphere, and just plain awesome!

I LOVE steak and if I ever get the chance to pamper myself and celebrate...I get big brother to take me here! Hahaha, yes I'm shameless, but Ruth's Chris is a family favorite!

My brother loves the scallops (when in season & offered on the menu) and potatoes. They adapted their asparagus side for my brother, just the way he likes it. The steaks are AMAZING. The filet and ribeye are both delicious, and they offer an option of having it served/cooked with butter, which my friends loved. Sides are a separate order that are not included. It's pricey, but this is one of those places where you truly get what you pay for.

Service is always polite, friendly, prompt, and isn't so frequent that it bothers you, but not so scarce that you're neglected.

    Now I'm really hungry...

Went to Ruth Chris for Valentines Day 2011 and again it was def a perfect dinner! My boyfriend and I have been here about 5 times already for special occasions like birthday, anniversary and such. My bf always orders the fillet Mignon and its always to his liking (he is very picky when it comes to his meats) its great that you can always count on superb service when you walk into any Ruth Chris Steak House. I ordered the lobster and Rib eye steak, the steak was full of flavor and the lobster was delish as well.

The atmosphere is romantic because the lights are dimmed and its quieter than Gibson's Steak house which is on the rowdy side. I def recommend it  to anyone trying to impress their date and as well as for anyone who enjoys great steaks.

Ever had your steak served on a hot plate with melted butter?  Does it really get any better?  YUM!  Love the food, the atmosphere, it's awesome!

Be prepared, everything is ala carte, but it's well worth what you're paying when you consider what other steakhouses charge.

The drinks are about what you would pay in any nicer restaurant, but expect to spend a good amount of dinero for dinner for two.  My husband and I each get steak, a side, a shared appetizer, drink and dessert and the tab, with tip, was $250.

I would have to say they definitely have some amazing food at this place. However, I'm not sure if it's worth all the money. I probably wouldn't have gone if i knew ahead of time how pricey this place was .

I had their petite filet which was cooked perfectly and was probably one of the best I've ever had. Just be careful of their really, really, REALLY hot plates. (My dad accidentally touched his and got a minor burn on his finger.)

Also, if you want water, make sure you specify tap or bottled. They didn't give us an option so we thought they didn't serve tap water. Luckily we cleared things up with our waiter because otherwise, we would've had to pay almost $20 for just water!

I might go again, but it would have to be for a pretty special occasion...

Coming here after our convention was always a tradition for the members of the committee.  It was a way to celebrate a job well done and say "Thank goodness it's over for another year."  Last year there were about fifteen of us at the table.  (BTW, they never bat an eye at the prospect of seating a group that large, nor is the accommodation anything less than completely comfortable.)  Because I got elected to figure out the bill, I had the dubious honor of paying the most ginormous tab any of us had ever seen.  It was well over $1100, and you know what?  It was worth every penny.

I've said before that I'm not a big meat eater, but I will happily snarf down a filet at Ruth's Chris because it's as close to perfection as meat can be, and bathed in melted butter which might sound like overkill, but trust me, it works.  The sides are enough for two or more as are the salads, and the mushrooms, and broiled tomatoes are so delicious they can almost make me weep with gratitude.  The only thing I don't find really memorable are the desserts.  They're not bad by any stretch, but they simply don't compare to the entrees and sides.

They have an excellent cellar, and serve champagne by the glass, and even the elusive eiswein, which is something everyone should taste once in their lives.  The flavor (and the price) are life changing experiences.

Go prepared to drop a bundle, but also to have one of the most heavenly meals you can imagine.

I was lucky enough to be taken here a few times by my in-laws.  I have always ordered the petite filet.  It is always excellent quality and cooked perfectly.

Makes it hard to try other restaurants for special occasions... but Ruth's Chris is a known quantity and there's some peace to be had knowing what you're in for:  a great piece of beef prepared exactly how you like it (and I always, ALWAYS have my order screwed up one way or another at most restaurants).  Period.

I have been here for both my husband's birthday and my birthday and I have never been disappointed. First, the service is always top notch. They check on your frequently but are not obtrusive and they are honest in the recommendations.

As far as the steaks, this is hands down the best steak I have ever had in my life! It is cooked on a 400 degree plate with butter. They know how to make a medium rare properly which is hard to find. So amazing!! They also have the best sweet potato casserole, it almost like a desert. Speaking of desert, they have an amazing chocolate trio dessert or you can't go wrong with the chocolate moose cheesecake which is whipped and fantastic. I can't recommend Ruth's Chris enough. It is great for a special occasion and depending on how large your appetite is, you could easily split a steak and get more sides.

This place is top-notch and they honestly have the best steaks in town.  We always come here on special occasions and the service is flawless every single time.  Always seated right away (with reservations) and each staff member walks around smiling, happy to serve you.  Here are my favorites:

    Appetizers:
    Blackened Scallops
    Sizzling Blue Crab Cakes
    BBQ Shrimp

    Entrees:
    Fillet
Petite Fillet (w/ or w/out shrimp)
    Fresh Lobster
Ahi Tuna Stack (I actually did not enjoy eating this, but wanted to list it so you guys know.  It's cooked rare but served on a sizzling plate, so essentially it is being cooked while in front of you.  I'd never had ahi tuna served hot before, and I was disappointed but basically it was my fault because the menu describes it exactly.  The lump crab meat it comes with was good though.  In the future, if I order anything other than a steak, something is wrong with me.)

    Potato Sides:
    Mashed
    Sweet Potato Casserole

    Vegetable Sides:
    Broiled Tomatoes

    Desserts:
Caramelized Banana Cream Pie (this is the one of the best desserts in the suburbs, I promise, I can eat a whole one by myself it's so good.)
    Warm Apple Crumb Tart

Ate here for first time last night and I have never had service like that before...I seriously don't think my waterglass ever got below half full!  Waiter was very personable and really took care of us all night....his boss even had nice little joke at the end of our meal to really tie things together (albeit the joke wasn't the joke to end all jokes).

The food followed suit as well!  Gotta be careful when the bread is served although as one could lose their whole apetite on that alone.  The calamari was out of this world (fried in an Asian/Thai sauce and a lemon that gives it that little extra umph).

I'd also recommend reserving one of their private rooms for dinner.

I love a good steak; I love butter; Walker Brothers, for example, has high quality butter; if you go to France, you can get many diufferent locally produced butters with distinctive flavor.  The steaks here are large but not flavorful; cooking them in butter is a huckster move.
Notice the clientele here; you will never see larger or noisier businessmen; presumably after a few drinks you may join the mood, but the "atmosphere" is anything but heavenly.  The sides are large, but there's no panache; deserts offer nothing special. A must miss in the Steak World, it's probably under Outback.

I've been here twice so far. I went with a group of 8 for Valentine's Day and a group of 10 with colleagues. Both times were mouth-watering delicious. I ordered the special both times which comes with a salad, filet, side and dessert medley. The steak comes to the table a little under-done because the plate continues to cook and keep the meat warm as you eat. (Be careful, it will burn you if you touch it) Eat from the edges and by the time you get to the middle, it will be cooked to perfection. I don't know what it is about their green beans, but they are my FAVORITE. I have also tried the au gratin and the lyonnaise potatoes; both of which are awesome choices, but the green beans are still #1 in my book. What I love about going with a small group is that they have two separate, private rooms that you can request. These work out well when you are with a boisterous group - especially ones that are drinking, lol. And while I loved the dessert I had both times, I want to try the warm apple crumb tart next time. A colleague of mine ordered it and it looked "to die for" and is definitely enough to share. And if you're looking for an extra special night, the Renaissance Hotel (attached to the restaurant) offers a special that comes with a gift certificate for the restaurant so it turns out to be a great deal.

The service was very good, absolutely no problems there.

HOWEVER, the "famously" cooked-in-butter steak?  Not so much.  Pretty bland.  I have never not finished a filet at a steakhouse before.  Also, most of the sides we ordered were okay, but the potatoes lyonnaise were a little too crisp or something.  Dessert was good.

Northbrook location is better than South Barrington.  The interior is comfy and cozy.  Service is great even when crowded.  Food served with impeciable timing, hot, fresh, high quality.  Everything down to the butter tastes better than "regular food".  Each time I eat here I question the quality of food I've eaten at other restaurants.  Although each time I get the bill I'm reminded of why the food is so good.

My mom has insisted on going to this steak house for the last two years for her birthday. I don't mind going to a steak house even though I don't eat meat and I've always been able to find something to eat at Ruth's Chris. The service is always excellent. They have a great wine selection. They are fancy and kid-friendly at the same time. My daughter is super picky and they always make her something special (buttered noodles - blech!) that is not on the kid's menu. I always order the spinach and mashed potatoes. My one complaint would be that the last time I was there in August, the spinach was a little too soggy. Oh, I can't do more stars b/c I'm not a meat-eater, so...

Went a couple of weeks ago with co-workers. The CEO was in town and treated nine of us to dinner. It was really great. I had made the reservation earlier in the week, and we were seated immediately. This was the second time at this location and it was as good as I remembered, if not better. I didn't have to worry about cost, so i at way more than i usually would have. We have about three different bottles at the table. Forgive me, I don't remember which ones. Now on the the food.

    Starters:
I had the gumbo. Really good stuff. They plopped some good white rice in the middle and put it in font of me. Really good stuff. The bread is also really good.

    Entre:
I had the petite filet and crab legs. OUTSTANDING! It was so good. The only criticism is that the legs were pre cracked and sliced in half. If anything, this just made it harder to get the meat out. And I do loves my crab meat! We had a couple of sides. The potatoes are great. I hear that the garlic spinach is to die for, but I haven't had it. I also hear that the Cowboy Ribeye is excellent. I think I may try that this weekend.

    Desert:
So good! I had the Creme Brulee and Banana Cream Pie. A lot of pie. You should share it with someone.

The service is outstanding and the food is excellent. I was here a couple of years ago with the family. One of the managers noticed that my little sister hadn't really touched her food. She asked if anything was wrong. Like most little kids, she shook her head no, and continued to pick at her food. She's just the type of kid that would never send food back. After some probing, the manager got my sister to come clean. She didn't like that particular cut of meat. The manager picked up the plate and returned with a brand new steak. My sister devoured that steak! She knew better what the little girl would eat that my sister did. Of course there was no charge to the new steak. HUGE round of applause to Ruth's Chris. Always on top of their game.

Meat 4 stars! Price? Sheesh, I left part of my arm there for payment and you still have to buy sides. But overall the place is warm feeling & their marbled steak is Awesome! I will definitely go again since my Company puts me up in the hotel.

Have only been here once and everytime I feel like going back I tend to go to another steakhouse that I know will be better. My experience at this particular location was hit and miss. Server was kind of rude and that really doesn't bother me much but it does when the steaks aren't up to par to places such as Gibson's, Morton's, etc. One of these days I'll come back (probably the one in downtown though) and I have a feeling it'll be better. Until then, I have to give this 3 stars for now.

So there is a good and a bad. I'll start with the bad. Our salad had a beetle crawling around in it. The place is very clean and it was probably latched to the lettuce or some of part of the fresh salad. If I was in the kitchen, it would be hard to spot, maybe they didn't clean it that well. But their service was amazing and both the waitress and manager came by to apologize and paid for my gf's meal. So they made up for their mistake by ensuring if she was okay and gave her a free meal.

Now to the steaks, they were cooked to what I asked, medium-rare. And wow they were good. Next time, i would ask for less butter as it can get too oily and I felt like my arteries would clog. But it was one of the best steaks I had. I had the ribeye and gf had the filet. You can not go wrong with their steaks. Carrot cake was good as well.

Overall, I loved the environment, their excellent customer service, and their food. I would rate it a 5 if it wasnt for the bug incident, but they made up for it.

So I hate the suburbs but i love Ruth Chris, that originated in NOLA by the way. So my date  and I traded off.  She drove and I bought. But still we didn't feel like having to fight downtown saturday night traffic. So we headed out to the Northbrook location. Same great amazing sizzling butterey fattening stake. But the suburban weird twilighy zone atmosphere was just the brake us urban city folks needed on a cold winter night. Between the dressed up and bored house wives and their bad wool sweatered husbands, to the 300 pound rich fat dude and his shell shocked mail order bride who could not bare to look at him, let alone talk to him as he devored his food and then hers. But to top of the night, we had  Hussein as our waiter! Hussein of the Ruth Chris Gold Star, from Corporate I might add! Yes Ten years of amazing service for Ruth Chris gets you a gold start, which he wore proudly. Hussein was the man, the mack, the legend. So if you wanna eat the best stake in a really trippy atmposphere, Ruth Chris in Northbrook. I also have to complement the place for not taking itself too serious. The downtown location is about every body playing big shot. This was a suburban dinning room. I even saw one teen wearing sweats.

Overall experience was good. We made a reservation and our table was waiting for us upon arrival. No waiting which is always nice. We were instantly greeted by our waitress who immediately proceeded to explain the hot plates and the way their steaks are presented. Water glasses were also instantly filled. I ordered the escargot appetizer which was okay but was overtly garlicy which over powered the escargot. Got the filet and creamed spinach for my main course. Overall, the steak was perfectly cooked to a medium rare and was tender and juicy. The hot plate makes for a very nice presentation of your food but seriously, don't touch the plate!! Steak of very good and creamed spinach was not bad, wish I had gotten something else as it was a bit heavy. Other people I was with got the salmon, which was excellent and had little sea scallops on it as well, and the petite filet and shrimp which the shrimp was reviewed to be pretty good. The brussel sprouts side dish was delicious with bacon in it. French onion soup was par at best. Overall, dinner was a bit pricey which costs one star since I wasn't sure if the dinner was quite worth the price tag. I still honestly prefer a filet at Wildfire however debate ensued over dinner between others in my party who preferred Ruth's Chris. Good food, good service, oh yeah, desert left something to be desired (cheese cake), so overall 4 star experience.
