So I found this place while cruising down Main Street during Valentine's weekend 2009 with a friend of mines... they claimed to have the best ribs in CO... and I needed to find out for myself! We stopped there on our last night in Aspen after a long day on the slopes... and I wasn't disappointed. So far it's the best ribs I ever ate! This place is super crowded but we didn't wait long to be seated. Not much options for parking... luckily we found parking behind the building. I had their ceasar salad which was pretty tasty. If I ever go back to Aspen, this is one place, I will have to go back and get my ribs on. The place looks like a log cabin with cool old looking Aspen/sking decor. Service was pretty good. I had a full rack and up until today, I still crave it!

P.S. check out my pics I posted on my meal (2)!  Also (2) in my profile. (^_^) Enjoy!

Breakfast here is horrible. Everything is pre-cooked, so it arrives super-fast. BUT, the quality of what arrives is abysmal. My poached eggs were undercooked (cold runny whites, with still-chilled yolks) because "the water in the pan that we put the bowls of poached eggs into had not yet heated up." The blueberries on the pancakes (note: "on" the pancakes, not "in") were insipid rubber balls, best discarded. The wheat toast was not fit to be served (yes, I too, could not really imagine complaining about wheat toast).

And, the service was equally poor. Our waitress disappeared, so I had to flag down another server to complain about the cold, raw "poached" eggs. He wanted to argue about my request to have new eggs cooked, because I had partly eaten one of them! When the new eggs arrived (with belated apologies, and the above explanation), they did not bring new toast to replace the toast onto which I had put the cold raw eggs, now sopping wet with cold, raw eggs. Not that it was a terrible loss, as the toast was almost inedible... No refills on water, difficult to get refills on coffee, no check to see if everything was okay, etc.

The restaurant proudly displays a sign claiming "Aspen's Best Breakfast." I cannot attest to this, as I only had one breakfast in Aspen. However, the mere possibility that this may be true will certainly make me very, VERY unlikely to ever eat breakfast in Aspen again!

I have not decided if this was *the worst* breakfast I have ever had; the Golden Loop Cafe in Escalante, Utah, still causes nightmares, and I will concede that at least the Hickory House did not serve burnt pancakes. But, surely this was "one of the worst."

Hickory House is the bar-none best place to go for breakfast in Aspen.  Ribs and eggs are a great combination and they have good Mimosas and Bloody Marys.

The ribs are excellent and the service is great.

This is a must visit when in Aspen.

We decided to walk half a mile to get to this place and it was worth it. Their ribs are excellent! Our server was very friendly and talked to us frequently. Their serving is big so you will definitely be satisfied onced you're finished.

Every time we go to Aspen, our family goes to dinner here, and this winter was no different.  Having recently had ribs at a restaurant back home, I can say that these were much better in comparison.  It's great for a casual reasonably priced (for Aspen) pig-out after a day on the slopes.  We were a little sad that we came on a night when they were not serving the potatoes au gratin, but the mashed potatoes made us forget our sorrows.  Will return.  It's an Aspen institution.

Service was inattentive, snobbish, and bland.

Food was so-so. I can't really understand what is so special about their ribs and have a hard time believing they are award winning.

Not really a different experience than getting ribs at a good chain restaurant, which in itself is usually not that impressive.

There are much better more original places to eat in Aspen. For example, most people don't have awesome sushi where they live and Aspen definitely provides in that genre as well as Italian.

If you are in the mood for something home cooked with that small town / rustic feel I strongly suggest going to Annie's as you won't be disappointed there and the service is stellar.

This place is great.  I haven't had any other ribs in Colorado but I'd say these were pretty good.  There might be better out there but when you need a dose of meat in Aspen this spot is definitely the place to go.  Our server Ashley was very prompt, helpful with the menu selection, and the food came out very quickly.  The sandwich portions were humongous and could easily be split up between two people.  A good way to go is to order a few sandwiches and then split the ribs, chicken, or links.  I would highly suggest this to a large group.  They also have a bar with a TV with sports on.

They claim to have the best ribs in Colorado. I've never tried any other ribs, but I'm from California and have had better. Stuff in Colorado taste better, I guess that's why Kobe Bryant is the frequent visitor of this state! I had the ribs, chicken, and tri-tip? I forget because it's been years. It was really good, but nothing to say it's the "best" I've ever had. I guess you do have to try it out if you're ever in Aspen.

We came here after I almost lost my eye in a freak face-meets-treestump accident.  So needless to say I wasn't at 100%.  The Hickory House really made me feel better.  The ribs were great and so was the pulled pork, and they have a big variety of sides.

The Hick House is great.  If you are in Aspen with a big family, definitely go to this restaurant and order family-style.  You will not be disappointed.  They also have a pretty decent breakfast.
