Finally someone I can trust, someone that shows up on time, and does a great job and loved the suggestions to continue to improve my living pod I call home.
I hired RHH the help me remove my very heavy, large old TV (about 120 lbs.) and hang my new TV, remove some furniture I couldn't lift, find the skeleton key match to some old vintage locks on closets doors in my flat, and replace light bulbs I couldn't reach. While there, he recommended what room to hang the TV and location on on the wall, how to hide the cables. What affordable options to use since some cables are very pricey and how I could work with my budget when purchasing accessories for my TV.
He also, without me asking, suggested ideas for space-saving in my small flat and fun, funk ideas for hanging art on walls that were empty.
I was very happy with all services completed - The large TV was removed and taken to a recycle shop in SOMA, I was given helpful suggestions for my flat and the billing process what very easy and smooth
I will use Russian Hill Handyman again! -

Rick is my favorite on call handyman. He has a big hammer, and he knows how to use it! He could always fix whatever I handed him, and I felt like he took his time when assessing the task at hand. I found his hourly rates very reasonable, and also willing to barter for a big job.
He is a true professional, seemed to know the ins-and-outs of any job, and always came when I called.
I highly reccommend him to all my friends when they need a quick fix. You won't be disappointed! -

95/hr. 2 hour minimum.
His pricing is purposefully not stated on his website or on yelp. For those looking it was $95/hour with a 2 hour minimum for our job. So $190. He knocked $50 off the price for showing up at a time of his choosing and paying in cash. Pretty pricey in my book.
Overall, services provided were good, so can't complain on this.
Some negatives:
-On a personal level, he's a bit off-putting. He sort of talks "through" you in his email communications and in person. He listens, but he's petty ready to make whatever point he wants to make when you're finished.
-It was also pretty weird that when I asked why his pricing was so hidden (literally, no where to be found, even on yelp) that he gave me a rundown of how he has a background in marketing and that it's on purpose.
*Shrugs* Cool I guess. Just not my kind of contractor.Comment from Rick H. of Russian Hill Handyman 11/16/2011

RHH is the best company you can have for everything that needs to be fixed. I hired Rick for fixing a scratch in my floor. The Result was awesome and had a fair price.
As soon something breaks in my apartment, i will call Rick! -

When i was living in SF I used the Russian Hill Handyman for many odd jobs, even before he actually had his own business. Rick was always a perfectionist in all of his work, but that wasn't the most impressive part of his service - it was his ability to work within budgets. I referred Rick to a friend who had some major damage to their home, but insurance was not going to cover the repairs. I referred them to Rick and he actually worked within their budge so they could make their house livable again. So he did all of the work, still at an extreme perfectionist level, for much less than others were quoting. In the following years, he returned to the family to do multiple repairs (at his standard rate :-) and they referred him to many people after that. I know this is a very special instance, but it shows how amazing Rick is. I would, a do, refer The Handyman to everyone who needs him.

Rick is like the Knight in Shining Armour for those of us who are challenged in the home repair/construction area. I had a large, unwieldy shelf to hang in my hallway and was way too intimidated to attempt this on my own. I got Rick's number from a friend and in one phone call, he rode in and knocked it out in no time - all the while, entertaining me with great stories and a fun sense of humor.
Before letting him escape, I cajoled him into look at a bedpost that refused to stay in place, turning my 4-poster into a weird 3-poster bed. Countless others had tried to fix the hazard-waiting-to-happen but none of their fixes worked. He diagnosed the problem in 10 seconds flat and is scheduled to come back and fix it once and for all - in time for arriving houseguests!
He's reasonably priced, clearly skilled and an all-round charming guy. Russian Hill is lucky to have a guy like this around! -

Russian Hill Handyman (Rick) is in my opinion one of the best contractors for home repair. Whatever you need, whether it is maintenance, electrical work or installation, he is an expert at what he does.
He is very keen and pays attention to detail, which is great. You won't believe the amount of work he can do!
When I first contracted RHH, I just had a few ideas in my mind and wanted a reliable handyman that can complete a job on time. I contracted them to help set up my new apartment, well, actually at first just fix my lighting, but after less than an hour of work and talking to them, he had such brilliant ideas on how to transform my apartment into what I really wanted! I ended up asking them for assistance on several more jobs. He did my lighting, installed my cabinets and repaired my windows.
He is awesome! He knows what He's talking about and He's a real professional. No time wasted! -

I highly recommend Russian Hill Handyman. I've called on them three times now to hang shelves and do some electrical work and each time I've been pleased with the work and comfortable having Rick in my home. Specifically, he's rehung Ikea "Lack" shelves (the ones with seemingly have no hardware and tend to migrate from the wall; mine are still flush and holding their max weight) and a ceiling light fixture in a home with old, possibly scary wiring. Rick is on-time, straight-up about what the job is and what it will cost, friendly and professional.

I can't comment on the actual services, but trying to book an appointment has been a nightmare. I have to email several times to get any response and they have practically no availability. I've booked another service and it took a total of 2 phone calls and 2 days to get an appointment. I wish I hadn't wasted 3 weeks trying to set up an appointment with Russian Hill Handyman.

Update:
RHH just came and helped me with something that I could have (technically) done myself, but 1.) did not have time for and 2.) would NEVER have completed as beautifully and professionally as Rick did.
I came back from work to find my blinds re-hung and curtain rod installed on the most impossible of walls- and I do mean impossible (the wall is essentially disintegrating).
I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but when you have something that needs doing, but can never find the time to do yourself, and it remains undone, nagging you, etc... then nothing beats the wonderful feeling of coming home to find the job beautifully completed by someone who isn't expensive; who is courteous and responsible and does the job quickly and professionally. I'd give him 10 stars if they gave us the opportunity.
Thanks RHH!! (Hey,I have another small project for you already)1 Previous Review: Show all »

I completely understand why this business gets 5 Stars. Rick understands your needs, your budget and your time frame and is willing to work with you on whatever needs to get done.
Knowing that I had a very tight time frame to get things accomplished by (I had been working in an office without life) Rick carved out time in his busy schedule to help me out.
Highly recommend him. fact. -

I always dread having to call the electrician or plumber.. I feel like i get raked over the coals every time i do. The reason for that is, i'm a complete idiot when it comes to plumbing and home fixtures. And so it is easy to pull the wool over my eyes.
I made my appointment, and gave a description of my problem. When The handyman came over, took a look at the situation with my toilet... he then told me exactly what he was doing and why. I actually learned how to fix my own toilet if the problem ever happens again! He was in and out faster than i ever expected.
I've never seen this kind of friendly, honest service from a handyman ever!
If i ever have another problem... I know where I'm going to go from now on! -

Rick is nothing short of amazing. We had some serious challenges in installing my home theater in only-in-SF bizarre masonry outer walls and support pillars, and he remained professional and helpful throughout the entire affair. The entire experience was more like having one of your most reliable and helpful friends on hand to make things easier than it was like hiring a handyman.
Also, I know others have commented on it already, but I have to reinforce how nice it is to have a technologically-enabled handyman. He didn't even blink at the annotated photos or detailed planning diagrams I sent him in PDF. Quite the opposite, he seemed happy to be working with a kindred spirit. :)
I will definitely be hiring Rick again in the future. -

I ordered a pretty expensive platform bed with storage online and when it was delivered it arrived in 3 boxes and had at least 100 parts. Not what I was expecting. There was no way I had the patience or tools to put it together. I emailed Richard on Saturday and all but begged him to squeeze me in on Monday. Not only did he adjust his calendar to accommodate me but he put the bed together in two hours. (Seriously, I have never seen so many screws in one package and I don't think he had either.) He was great and a lifesaver. I thought his rates were completely fair and would definitely recommend him to my friends.

I have to admit that when I called the Russian Hill Handyman I didn't have high expectations. I've dealt with my fair share of handymen and needless to say I've been underwhelmed. Over-promise, under-deliver, over-charge is the norm. Not to mention the sweaty behemoths that you have to invite into your house. It isn't a pretty sight.
The Russian Hill Handyman throws all of those experiences right out the window (and then will cleverly fix the window he just broke) and delivers a top quality service at an über-reasonable rate. All of that in a ruggedly handsome and instantly hilarious package.
Will I call the RHH again? Yes. Will I make sure my girlfriend is out of the house before he comes over? Absolutely. -

This tool may be the sharpest in the shed!
I was stymied by an incredibly dark and deep closet -- no electrical existed in the immediate area; stick up lights failed to provide enough illumination and using a flashlight was getting ridiculous. Rick (The Russian Hill Handyman) took a look at the situation and actually created a lighting panel -- completely custom -- which he installed expertly and within his original estimate for time/cost. He was professional, tidy and respectful of my time. I honestly am thankful every time I flick the switch.
In contrast, during my time in The City (15 plus years), I have hired a number of handymen and endured any number of problems: late, overcharged, incomplete and/or shoddy workmanship, messy, unprofessional, drunk (that was a really bad one!). Russian Hill Handyman will be my new "go to" solution. -

Arrived on time, did what he said he would and the witty banter was free. When my TV bracket wouldn't fit my TV, he tracked down and adapter brace online and obtained it.
Would definitely recommend and hire again. -

I live in Sydney, Australia, and needed to have some touchup and repair work completed on my apartment in SF while it was between tenants.
Because of the logistical problems, I was forced to trust Rick to do quality work in a tight timeline and for a fair price.
The whole experience was seamless...I now know where to go when I need to get something done.
Thanks for the help... -

I'm a first time home owner and it's amazing how much work there is to be done in a house. Finding rick made my life a lot easier. He was able to help with big jobs and little ones.
He has
- hang a flat screen Tv and a mirror for me
- installed bathroom vanity top and faucet
- installed new hinges on my cabinets
- replaced several lighting fixtures
-installed recess lighting
- sanded down doors that didn't close
Rick was easy to work with and I would definitely work with him again. One more caveat is that his services are not cheap, but he has service guarantees and I think it's worth it. -

Where would I be without Rick?
I *shudder* to think!
He has *mad* skills in the handyman department.
But his real genius is his aesthetic sense - he won't do anything in your house he wouldn't do in his own.( Well, in the handyman sense ...) -

I was looking for a handyman to help me do some set up work in my studio at work. I found RHH here on YELP and emailed. Luckily, I did so just after someone else cancelled and Rick had an open appointment two days away. He showed up on time, reviewed the work I wanted done, went off to the hardware store and returned well armed to do all the work. He was prompt, courteous, well mannered,
knowledgeable, skilled and worth every penny. I will certainly be calling him again. Highly recommed this service. -

I've recommended Rick to several friends the most recently to hang a heavy chandelier. It was a delicate job made more so by the fact that he had quite a bit of furniture to navigate in a crowded dining room. The job was handled perfectly - he hooked up the wiring; the dimmer switch worked perfectly; the install look was seamless; it was perfectly centered on the ceiling; and the job was neat as a pin. Highly recommended.

Rick was great. I needed window tint scraped off of large bay windows. He came with someone who knew exactly what to do. Very professional. I accidentally overpaid after the job, and he quickly refunded me the money. Very honest. I will definitely use him again. Also, he takes payment through paypal which makes it extremely easy!

If Yelp gave 17 stars, he'd deserve every last one.
One caveat, however: He's prone to leaving telephone messages that do not include his number. Patrons have been known to ask themselves, 'What's the point of that?' -

What a great experience! I called Rick last minute after another handyman canceled and he showed up half an hour later and helped me hang everything up and even gave me some decorating tips! It's great to work with people who are professional, courteous and upbeat! I highly recommend Rick, the Russian Hill Handyman to you all!

i needed a handyman to do some small projects in my apartment so i turned to yelp to get some recommendations. (sorry, but hiring someone from craigslist seemed a bit dicey.) after calling a couple of people listed on yelp (neither bothered to return my calls), I finally found russian hill handyman. first, he actually has a web site! and an e-mail address! i liked that -- seemed more business-like. rick responded to my e-mail within 24 hours and came by the next day to check out what needed to be done. he was busy with other jobs and i wasn't in a big rush so we exchanged e-mails about scheduling. he was very good about communicating with me. i never had to send one of those "what's up? why haven't i heard from you?" e-mails.
the hourly charge is reasonable, with a two-hour minimum. he showed up on time and completed the work within the estimated time. he did the job quickly and professionally. my next project is putting shelves in my closet and rick had some very helpful suggestions. i'll be hiring him again. i highly recommend russian hill handyman. -

Rick was fantastic and honest. Not only did he know how to solve my problem immediately, but he even ordered the part and had it shipped to my apartment to avoid more hours since I could install it myself. I've never met a handyman (let alone the rare business person) that cares enough about their customers to sacrifice an easy additional payment for customer satisfaction.

First off, Rick was a funny, great guy.
Most importantly, he did a great job! He was very upfront and honest with the jobs that I requested. He made great follow up with me and was always understanding of my schedule, etc. His quote was just about right and he did a thorough job on the two things that I had him fix in my place.
I highly recommend him as he does a great job, is very comfortable to have around and is a true professional with your time, quote and managed my expectations of each piece of work he did.
Thanks Rick! -
