Too bad we did not have the time to taste the cuisines, but it sure looked pretty good. We instead opted to drinking our food.  Try their Russian Baltika Cooler, or Baltika 2 Pale Beer or their Baltika 4 Original or their Baltika-non-alkoholik....it was a great place to kick back and relax after a business meeting.

Great food at amazing prices.  Everything is fresh and home made.  Never thought I would be a fan of borscht until I bought a lunch special that included a big bowl.  I tucked in not wanting to be rude, but quickly fell in love.  The crepes are also amazingly good but very rich.  If I have one bad thing to say about Russian Bear, it is the location.  Eagle is such a mess to get in and out of if you don't live there, and is the only thing that keeps me from getting to the Bear more.

Phenomenal, home-made Russian comfort food. One of my favorite finds in the Boise area and a restaurant I plan to frequent just to try everything on the menu.

For today's exploratory visit, I ordered the cabbage rolls in tomato sauce and skin-on mashed red potatoes with a side of the house-made pepper sauce. Everything was wonderful, with special attention to balancing sweet/spicy/savory flavors. This restaurant is clearly a labor of love for the owners and I wish them the best of luck.

Would tomorrow be too soon to take some coworkers out to Russian Bear? I can't wait to try their blinis.

Amazing! The Beef Stroganoff with mashed potatoes and roasted grains was out of this world. I had the perogie special which instantly became a valuable currency at our table. I could trade a perogie for several delicious meat cubes. Excellent ROI.

The salad was chopped cabbage with thick creamy dressing. You might want to get that dressing on the side.

Another thing to get on the side is the delicious pepper sauce. Man, I love eastern European pepper condiments. Sweet, spicy, and pepper-flowery.

We got there too late for the Blini operations. The Napoleon was an excellent substitute. Creamy and chocolaty.

Baltika beers from Russia are a special treat.

I really hope they stay in business. I think it is not the best location perhaps because so many other businesses have come and gone.

Interesting and different.  Food was good but very heavy, service was a little slow.

This is my favorite recipe for a great dining experience. Locally owned, fresh food, great taste, good prices.

The owner is from Russia in a town on the Black sea. He has been in Boise for 15 years now, but he definetly hasn't forgotten how to cook good Russian food.

The stroganoff and kebabs were both excellent with tender well seasoned meat and delicious sauces. The borscht was a medley of spices and tender vegetables and the strawberry ricotta blini (sweet russian crepes) was made with fresh fruit and was fantastic.

On a friday night it wasn't busy at all and we were able to talk to the owner for awhile. He has some amazing stories and really made us feel at home with his personality and his food.

This place is run by a Russian family who emigrated to the US in the past 20 years or so.  Its in a non-descript shopping center in Eagle, just outside of Boise.  You know the food is authentic when you see a bunch of Russians sitting around eating, which I did.

I had the cabbage rolls which were really good.  Great texture and flavor, not high end or fancy, just what you'd expect if you stopped in to your Russian grand mother's kitchen.  Atmosphere is lacking, but that's not why you're there.  Good, real Russian comnfort food.

Never would have found this place without Yelp. Family-owned and operated and some of the best comfort food I've ever eaten.

Started with the Russian Bear appetizer which is Apricots stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon, baked and served on sliced bread with a drizzle of sweet pepper sauce on the plate.

I asked the owner what I should have since it was the first time here. He said if I had good childhood memories of Stuffed Cabbage to try that. My grandmother used to make it for me so I gave it a try. When he asked me how it was I said, "My grandmother would be crying because hers was not  as good." Washed them down with original Baltika beer. Absolutely fantastic.

OMG. Stumbled into here by following Yelp reviews while on a business trip, and Lord, am I glad I did! They call it Russian comfort food, and I sure was comforted. Had a delicious borscht soup, and the blinis (crepes) folded around smoked Gouda and turkey. Totally worth the trip all the way to Idaho.

We have been here twice and the service is wonderful, food is great and the owners are very friendly.  It's nice to feel like you are in another country not to far from home. We would highly recommend the Russian Bear Cafe.

My sister and I decided to visit today based on the previous review. I had the beef stroganoff and she had a savory blini. Both were good, though I preferred the blini, and I'd really like to go back and try the dessert blini at some point.

The ambiance was decent, and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt.

The crepe/blini things here are amazing in texture and taste, superlative.

That's the short story. I've been here for lunch, once, and got a chance to try both a ham and cheese crepe lunch special and thanks to a generous co-dining family member, the cabbage rolls. The ham and cheese part of the crepe was solid (for me, tastewise, but also literally in that the cheese was unmelted, phasing at least one co-diner), but the crepe itself was in fact something to write home about. The cabbage rolls were not overpoweringly savory. Just perfectly savory.

Borscht came with the lunch special and was a good introduction to the tastes to come. There was more cabbage and less beet than others I've had... there seems to be a wide variety.

I'll definitely be heading back on Friday to try the stroganoff.

The stuffed cabbages were quite good, and the stroganoff was excellent. Very nice folks running the place. Anxious to try the other items. (A woman seated next to us was raving about the borsht).
