Runnergy is great! I walked in there to check out new running shoes because my old ones were shot. I've always been an Asics girl, but I went in open to trying out a different brand. Immediately, Sabia greeted me and asked what kind of shoe I was looking for, how much I run, etc. Then she got me on the treadmill with the camera. She noted what kind of support and brand would work for my running stride.
I tried on a few pairs and watched my running stride on the camera to see which shoe supported my foot the best. I even told her that I was interested in learning a new running technique and she gave me some shoes with less support (conducive to toe-heel running). Sabia was genuinely concerned that if she sold me the shoes with less support, that I take lessons to learn the new running technique, as it is hard to learn the technique solo. I put the shoes on hold that I liked and came back a couple days later.
In the end the Gel Asics were the best fit (I guess once you go Asics you can't go back!). I bought them a few days before Black Friday and the owner came out and gave me the Black Friday discount anyway! So cool!
Now I'm on their email list and planning on going for one of their group runs soon! Thanks Runnergy - I'll see you soon! -

I've been meaning to try out and/or buy a pair of Vibrams for the last year or so. Both my acting coach and another good friend who have flat arches and knee problems have raved about them--which got me thinking.
Most of the running stores that carry the shoes are on the west side, and the last thing I want to do when I have free time is drive all the way across town. Then a few weeks ago, my friend Adam mentioned Runnergy and said it was in Sherman Oaks!
I went over the very next day and Jeff helped me pick the perfect shoes. I explaine my interest in the Vibrams, and he said he'd watch me run and discuss what I wanted out of the shoes, and then make a recommendation based on that--whether for the Vibrams, or another kind of minimalist shoe.
I ran on the treadmill in my regular shoes, then in my sox and then in the Vibrams. Each time, Jeff showed me my alignment (via a TV screen that they have hooked up to a video camera aimed at your feet) and recommended slight adjustments to my stance. He said the main thing I needed to change was my popsture and stride, not necessarily my shoes.
I told Jeff about my knee/feet issues and how that was where my initial interest in the Vibrams had come from. After showing me how to run differently (more like short strides directly up and down on the pads of my feet--almost felt like riding a bicyble with no bike!) he said that the Vibrams should actually be ok/good for me and to just be sure to start slowly.
Now let me say, I am NOT a runner. I don't like running and I never have. When I exersize I tend to do cardio/dance/yoga but stuff that's lower impact. But, I actually find running in the Vibrams FUN :) I've only done it 3 or 4 times so far. And at about 10-15 minutes per run. After the first time my calves were sore for 4 days, like I'd run for 45 minutes up hill. Maybe I overdid it a tiny bit. But the short runs I've taken since then have been fine and I do feel like I've noticed a difference in the overall muscle definition in my legs and that more of my muscles are engaged.
I've also noticed that the way I walk in my regular shoes has changed. Generally I walk pretty heavily. But since I started sporadically using the Vibrams, I've walked at least 30% softer--and noticed less impact on my joints. So if anything, these shoes have helped me become more aware of my body. Not to say I'll be running a marathon any time soon---but I may get up to exercising for 20 minutes 4 times a week as apposed to twice a week for an hour---which is supposedly a better way to go.
Jeff and the other members of the Runnergy staff were kind, knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I'd definitely recommend Runnergy if you're looking for some new running/walking shoes that will provide the right kind of support for your body. -

I have been a customer of Runnergy for over 6 years. I love this place and have come to Jeff, the owner, time and time again for assistance with running shoes, and more. His knowledge of the entire world of running footwear and apparel is exactly want one needs to get a rundown on what is best for hm/her. No need to waste your time elsewhere or shopping from store to store.
Being a Certified Personal Trainer and Running Coach, I refer all of my clients to Runnergy because I know they will leave with the appropriate shoe for that best fits their individualized needs. Runnergy also offers group runs each week that promotes a sense of "community" amongst the local running population...exactly what most runners desire :)
Thanks Jeff and the Runnergy clan! -

I needed some "i'm a casual jogger, but really I just want smart shoes to wear with jeans" shoes.... My chiropractor recommended New Balance. I play tennis several times a week and needed some non-tennis shoes (running) to kick around in - shoes that were still kind to my body - and didn't scream "i'm a sweaty gym shoe".
I stopped by Runnergy last night about 20 minutes before closing - I had just spent oodles on a fancypants foot scan at my chiropractors office and Larry had me walk around in my socks and told me the exact same thing that this crazyass footscan told me.
He selected shoes for me that were both appropriate for my foot and for my obvious sense of high fashion. :)
I was very happy with the selection, friendliness and the knowledge - I'm going to be greedy and wish they had actual "Tennis" shoes, too! I'll be back! thanks, Runnergy and Larry - you totally rock. -

$5 CHARGE TO TRY ON SHOES. FO REAL. NO JOKE.
So I went in today with my husband to buy some Vibram five fingers. They only sell these shoes at "specialty" stores, so we looked up the one closest to us and went to Runnergy. We walked in and a snotty lady that worked there came right up to us and asked what we're looking for. We told her we knew we each wanted a new pair of vibrams since we each had 2 pairs already and loved them. Then we saw THE SIGN, "There's a non-refundable $5 charge to try on Five Fingers and you have to show payment ahead of time" when we asked the girl about this charge thing (which NO OTHER shoe store does) she very quickly cut us off and said something about how if they didn't do this, they would have a bunch of people off the street wasting their time. REALLY? What would be the point of someone doing that? Like it's some cool new car and only 3 of them exist around the world.
Here's an idea, if you're worried about people's unclean feet, why don't you just provide some cheap sanitizing wipes for people before they try on the shoes? Then you'll have your "clean shoes" and customers won't feel scammed.
We were about to drop at least $200 bucks, and they lost our business for good, the rude girl working didn't help matters either. -

I found Runnergy while shopping for Vibrams. The salesman who assisted me was polite, encouraging, professional and helpful. There were two others on the floor, too, and I witnessed only professionality from them throughout the experience. I left with a pair of Vibrams (now my favorite shoes for home, office, running and walking) and also the BAREFOOT RUNNING book to add to my home library.
They were great and I'm excited to join the running group as soon as I'm in better shape post-partum. :) -

I would highly suggest Runnergy for their great selection, great customer service and great community involvement.
I have been buying shoes from them for over two years and wouldn't go anywhere else! They are always welcoming, open to answer any questions and will take the time needed to help you select the best fit for you.
Check them out- you won't regret it! -

I coach a marathon team for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Jeff, the owner of Runnergy has been coming out each season for my team to do a clinic on shoes since before I was even coach. They are a very knowledgable store and one of my first reccommendations to my runners & walkers.

After trying several chain stores who didn't know what we were asking for and attempted to sell us something else instead, or who had prices through the roof and tried to upsell EVERYTHING, we came to Runnergy and got exactly what we wanted and needed. Larry was brilliant! He showed us an assortment of different brands in spikeless cross country racers with a range of sizes so we could test the fit from brand to brand. He was helpful, had great knowledge and not at all pushy! My daughter got a perfect pair of shoes and really enjoyed them at her next meet.
Definitely will be back and we're recommending them for her whole team! -

Great customer service. The employees are very knowledgeable. I would definitely go back again. I only knocked off a star because running shoes are so pricey (not their fault though) and they need more women's running clothes. Average shoes run at about $100.

I'm new to running. I was running in my old sneakers and that started to get uncomfortable so I thought I should get some running shoes.
I went to some athletic shoe stores and after trying on shoes for a couple hours, I just couldn't find a pair that fit right.
I was tired of shopping so I figured someone at a real running store could help me. Runnergy was right by my house and I noticed it while sitting in traffic. There's also a more famous running store nearby named after a certain Greek figure who died from running. Who names a running store after a guy who DIES from running? Runnergy is actually a nice name for a store.
I went in and the woman working there was very pleasant. She analyzed my stride/feet and brought out three pairs of shoes. I tried on on the first one, too tight, tried on the second one, too loose, she told me not to even try the third one, it wouldn't fit based on the last two pairs I'd tried on. She then brought out a fourth pair which seemed to fit perfectly. A short run on the treadmill and they did indeed fit very well.
That was 3 months ago and these shoes have been great. I'm definitely going back when these wear out. -

First off, what is the deal with the store being closed on Monday's, whatever...
Walked in and waited 5 minutes before someone who was chatting with a customer already being helped by someone else to ask me if I needed help. When I insisted that I wanted size 10.5 shoes even though I measure a 10, the sales person still brought out only a 10 for me to try on. I have been running for and walking for 40 years now in a 10.5 shoe, that is what works for me. To have someone insist I am a 10 is kind of insulting.
Seriously, save your time and go to a running store with sales associates that not only listen to what you want, but also drop personal conversations with customers to see if you need help. Not to mention, their selection of shoe brands was not that great to be called a "running store". -

Runnergy really stands up to the test of time, particularly in customer service.
I still remember the first day that I visited Runnergy two years ago when I started training for my first marathon. I was never a runner - the most I had ever run up to that point was the state-mandated mile once a year in PE. I would be gasping for air after jogging 15 feet to my car. So you can imagine how I was shaking like a leaf when I visited my first "running specialty store."
Jeff was there and he was super-nice. I instantly felt at ease. Over next couple years Jeff always remembered my face when I popped in to purchase water belts, GU packets, running glasses, etc.
Other local places are all about expanding and branding themselves like a big corporation. The drawback at those places is that I feel like I'm treated like a number - no one really remembers or acknowledges me as a valued customer.
I highly recommend Runnergy - they have a very personable and excellent staff. Especially a great place for beginners. I'm currently training for my 5th marathon and am glad to say that Runnergy is my preferred running specialty store.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Being new to the running field, I was very nervous coming to a specialty shoe store. As I walked in, the staff greeted me and eased my anxiety. I explained to him that I was overwhelmed in looking for the right shoe to fit my needs and that was it. He took care of the rest. He really is an expert. He viewed my stride by observing my walk on the sales floor. He brought out a few pair of shoes. He helped me find the perfect fit by observing my stride on the treadmill for each shoe. He was very patient as well.
After reading the reviews for the shoe I purchased online, I understand why he chose the particular shoe for me as I needed a motion control shoe for stability. Similar to what my trainer had stated.
I really appreciate the positive experience and of course, I LOVE MY SHOES! -

Awesome service. They really know about running and help get you into the right pair of shoes. The store is also great for all your other running needs: clothing, energy goos, water bottles, etc. I am an ultra marathon runner and I only buy my shoes and accessories from Runnergy.

I went into Runnergy today to get some new shoes to workout in, and the experience couldn't have been better. My sales associate, Emily, was extremely helpful. It took a little bit to find a shoe that fit my foot perfectly because I have especially wide feet and one is half a size bigger than the other. Despite the difficulties, Emily found 2 pairs that fit beautifully and I walked out with both of them!
Even though the store is geared towards the serious runner, it worked for me (just a casual exerciser). They really care that everyone walks out of the store happy, and that is exactly what happened! -

Disappointing. I went to Runnergy in the middle of the day to purchase new shoes. There was a couple in the store plus two sales associates. Both sales associates assisted the couple while I waited and waited and waited. I probably waited 15 minutes to be helped. Runnergy also has a treadmill with camera so you can see how different shoes affect your stride. With every pair of shoes the couple tried on, the sale associates took them to the treadmill. And every pair of shoes got the same response "these shoes make your stride look great," which made me question how much the sales associates actually knew.
I finally got my shoes, but I won't go back to Runnergy. There are many other stores with better customer service, a better shoe selection, better prices and better parking. -

I have been buying my sneakers at Runnergy for 2 years now. They are very knowledgable, they will look at your arch have you walk on a treadmill w/a camera on your feet, so they can see the way your foot lands and then they bring out a few different shoes for you to try on.

Great store if you're looking for a quality running shoe. They really take the time to find what you need.
I was having knee problems and dropped in - Jeff took one look at my stride and was able to diagnose the issue. We went through about half-a-dozen pairs of shoes - each pair he'd take the time and have me go for a quick jog down the block so he could assess if it was the right shoe.
I'm not a serious runner, but it's made a world of difference having a nice pair of shoes - no more knee problems! -

runnergy carries a great array of running shoes, whether you like deep cushioning and motion control, cross country or racing flats, or the barest, most minimal shoes available, such as vibram five fingers. in fact, they may have the best selection of flats and "natural" running shoes around -- much appreciated because i run in vibram classics and in puma h-streets.
the staff at runnergy is friendly, attentive, and thoroughly helpful.
they employ a video camera and a treadmill to take a close look at your running stride, and then make recommendations they know to be helpful to runners of all levels.
their location is super convenient -- where hazeltine Ts into ventura blvd.
as well, they host a weekly, wednesday evening run, occasional post-run yoga classes, shoe company rep visits / demo days, and regular educational seminars each month. plus, they'll recycle your old shoes.
interestingly, in the short time its been around runnergy has created a community of runners -- of which i now belong -- that range from high school cross country athletes, to elite age group 5K and marathon runners, to hardcore crossFit exercise fanatics, to Pose and Chi Method runners, charity group walk / run participants, and recreational runners in general. and, while the staff takes great care of their serious, dedicated athletes, they embrace novice runners who desire a little direction sorting out the myriad running shoe options. runners of every stripe can find happiness here.
i've been a fitness coach for a long time, and have frequented a lot of running stores. i point out all of the above because in my experience it's really unusual that one store can cover so many bases, so well. -

If you're going here for Vibram's beware...
I went here for a runners workshop and really enjoyed it. After that I decided I was going to come here for my running needs. On 7/13/10 I went in wanting to buy a pair of Vibram shoes for a hike I was going on the following day. I was very excited to go and try on the shoes and walk out with them, until that is I read the sign. Basically it says that there is a $5 refundable fee just for trying on the shoes!! It's only refundable if you BUY the shoes. If for some reason they don't fit or you decide they're not for you, you won't be getting the $5 back. Now I know you may be saying, "it's only $5, what's the big deal?" It is the principle of it all. I mean, aren't they a store that sells shoes? Especially with Vibrams, which are very specific in fit, how can I know for sure that they'll fit me the way they should? Oh wait, I know, by trying them on...for $5.
When we spoke with the staff member who was helping us, he said the reason behind the notice is because apparently, people are trying on the shoes and then buying them else where. How do they know that's what's happening? I even tried to explain to him, I am here with real intentions of buying and I even explained that I wanted them for the next day. He didn't care. All he did was apologize.
Needless to say, I didn't try on any shoes that day and really it's too bad for them, because not only did they loose a sale on 2 pairs of Vibrams ($85 each) but they lost a would be customer. I will no longer be shopping there to fulfill my running needs. I've decided to go further to REI where they will (gasp) allow you to try on the shoes for free!!! -
