6 reviews for Rumplestiltzkin's Restaurant
Rumplestiltzkin's is the restaurant located at the Village Inn in Lenox, MA. I have to agree with one of other reviewers: This was one of the best dining experiences ever for me as well.
Our server was friendly and took the time to talk to us, joke around, and explain the menu. Her husband happens to be the chef there, and she told us that she has been in the restaurant business for a long time. She was certainly very knowledgeable.
To start, we had delicious rolls (homemade by our server, who runs the restaurant), and a cup of the butternut bisque, which was fantastic! Our dinners came with a dinner salad, which was fresh. I had the Shaker-Style Cranberry Pot-Roast, which was served with a potato pancake and braised root vegetables, and I ate every bit of food on my plate. It was so good! My wife had the pecan encrusted chicken, which was also delicious. However, she felt that the chicken was a little dry.
Nonetheless, this was a worthwhile dining experience! The restaurant is moderately priced, but well worth it because the food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the portions are quite large! We actually hope to stay at the Village Inn in the future.
Wow. The folks who say that this was amongst the best dining experiences they ever had must have very different standards than me, because this was absolutely mediocre in every way.
No, wait, I take it back -- the butternut bisque was actually quite good.
But other than that...meh.
A friend and I were looking for a place to eat in Lenox and chose this one based on the menu - there was literally nothing on there we weren't drooling over and wanting to try. Everything about the experience was outstanding. Two women who attended our table were like instant friends, talking and telling stories (and listening to mine). They were as easy going as you could want - while still being efficient and on top of *everything* to the point that when my friend asked for something, she got it twice.
The atmosphere were cozy and relaxed; well lit and not noisy or terribly busy feeling, despite a lot of diners. We ordered delicious cups of soup - my New England chowder was incredibly thick and chunky. After much debate - since we really did want everything on the menu - I ordered the Tournedoes (twin petit filet mignon sautéed with shallots, portabellas and gorgonzola served with shallot mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables). It was so MIND BOGGLINGLY GOOD that I proclaimed it better than ... well, you know. My friend got a scallop dish - and we did share both dishes.
I have no idea what the cost was, since I wasn't paying but that aside, it was one of the nicest dining experiences I've ever had. I can't wait to go back some day!
we stay at bed and breakfasts all the time-----have stayed in Stockton, New Jersey, Putnam, Ct., Troy, Pa., Townshend, Vermont, etc. and we usually love doing so. By any standard, staying at the Village Inn was the worst experience and the biggest rippoff we have ever experienced. The inn is anything but welcoming. The coffee and hot water left for guests on a table in the dining room is not even warm. For $280.00 a night there was not even a small cake of soap in the room ,which was, by the way, about as charming as a homeless shelter. The bed was so hard that you would have been as well off on a sidewalk. The male desk clerk was as unfriendly as it is possible to be and still be called civil. I would suggest that if you are going to Tanglewood you stay any place but here. Any place. A tent in a campground would be better.
This is, hands down, the best dining experience I have ever had. My girlfriend and I went there for dinner and, because it was before the season started, we were one of only three couples in the restaurant. This is a classic restaurant. White linen and wicker chairs variety. But the food, oh my god, just blew me away. It was nearly a year ago, so I don't remember exactly what we had, but I remember that it was just perfect. The vegetables that came with our entrees were cooked to a perfection that I did not know was possible.
The service was great, but then there were very few people to worry about. The menu was mainly italian/french and we had a couple of glasses of some really good Pinot Noir.
In short, I would definitely eat there again. And might travel to lenox just for this.
I believe the restaurant is called Rumplestiltzkin's Restaurant.
We went here b/c there have been positive reviews around the internet. The manager was nice enough to stay open for us on a snowy, Sunday night. Food was delicious - I had the pecan encrusted chicken which was tasty but what bothered me was that it was a fried chicken cutlet. Whenever I make this dish or have it in a restaurant it's usually an entire chicken breast and it's baked. I scraped off the massive amounts of breading and it was still good. My boyfriend had the shrimp scampi which was topped with lots of artichoke hearts??? He really enjoyed it although it lacked garlic - which was fine by me since I wasn't eating garlic. :) Anyway, house salad was very good and the waitress was quite accommodating. I really wanted to give 3 stars but the atmosphere was gorgeous, homey, and very comforting on a cold, winter's night.
