Best vet ever! He has cared for two of my dogs and done such a wonderful job. My little one is a rescue dog and was very sick when I got him, but Rue saved his life!

I brought my dog in for the first time for a badly torn dewclaw. The staff is very friendly and greeted me promptly. The paperwork was painless and short. However, I waited 30 minutes in the exam room for Dr. Rue. I guess he is pretty popular with the local North Fremonters. He came in and did an overall exam on my dog. He was very patient listening to me and answered all of my questions.
When it was time to get down to the business of pulling off the rest of the dewclaw, he brought in another technician to hold down my dog. He was very quick and gentle (or as gentle as possible.) He took all the precautions of keeping my dog safe. I am pretty happy about that part.
Then comes the bill. It came out to be $200 for the visit. He did send me home with antibiotics and creams for my dog. The flat rate exam fee is $46, which is average around this area. The bandage fee was another $36. All the medicines cost about $90. He showed me how to trim the dog's nails and that cost another $20. I am happy with his expertise and service.

I am pretty happy with Dr. Rue's care of my dog, especially considering no other vets in Fremont seem to be doing a great job (from other Yelp reviews). Dr. Rue tends to be quiet, and not one of those vets who fawns over your pet (which some people take for being standoffish or less than caring), but he is good at what he does, and most importantly, he doesn't push any unnecessary services/products at you. In fact, he tends to err on the side of letting you do your own shopping or taking care of small problems on your own more often than not.
Case in point - I came in here once with my dog once when Dr. Rue was not in, and saw another doctor (who came over from Brookvale Hospital when they merged). This doctor found a foxtail in my dog's paw, then proceeded to have the tech remove all the foxtails (4 more) from his paws with tweezers while I held my dog. 5 minutes later, I'm paying my bill with an added $40 for "Foxtail Removal", which I didn't ask for, NOR was told how much it would cost. The next time I came in, I saw Dr. Rue, and I mentioned as an aside how my dog was picking up so many foxtails at the nearby parks - he looked at his paws, pulled a few out, then gave me some pointers on how to get them out at home, and that was that. That's all I need! I don't need to pay $40 to have a tech pluck my dog's paws.
Dr. Rue has also treated my dog's clogged eye duct and although he suggested the need to take him to a specialist, he also very honestly said it would cost me more money, and the duct wasn't a big deal to begin with, suggesting that it would be okay to consider leaving it alone. I appreciate a vet who gives me both sides of the story and leaves me to make a decision without pressuring me to spend tons of money on things I may not need. I'll take that any day over a vet who fawns over my dog!
As an aside, the staff is very friendly here and does the fawning that my vet doesn't do. Check out Dr. Rue if you're unhappy with your own vet!
