The pizza bagel here ($2) won over my overly picky 2 year old son and the honey wheat bagel won me over for only $0.90 (w/o cream cheese).
yum!!!
Some of the best bagel sandwiches I have ever had, good chocolate croissants and coffee's as well, A great place for a Sunday morning treat, but be prepared to wait a few minutes in line!
I have only been here once early on a Monday so I cannot claim the service is consistent. But our service was great. It was Monday June 29th and we both ordered bagels with egg and cheese. My husband also got a latte. He said his coffee was good, and I thought my egg and cheese onion bagel was tasty. I mean it's a bagel place, what do you expect? They were decent bagels for CA. The tables were cool, filled with coffee beans too. I thought their menu was more than enough to choose from as well. I wished we would have eaten here for breakfast the day before instead of that crappy Ernies. Also we paid with credit so I am not sure what this other reviewer is talking about.
A good place for all the early-risers out there. Great coffee and tasty baked goods. There's typically a line, but most of the time they keep things moving along. The 'rude awakening' is a reliable breakfast that will keep you going during your hike, skiing, or whatever you plan to do.
As for the attitude issue...it's a bagel shop. I don't need a lot of interaction when I'm just getting a quick bite to go (I'm usually half awake in the morning anyway). I've found the people behind the counter to be pretty down-to-earth.
No line this morning but service seemed a bit pre occupied but they did say Hi before stopping what they were doing, like condesing a couple of pastry tray's and then took our order.
There were plenty of bagels to chose from - from what I remember: Spinach & something, Asiago, Honey Wheat, Plain, Everything, Onion, Pizza, Salt ok thats all I remember. They also have different cream chesses: Veggie, Plain, Garlic & Herb and something else.
I got the Asiago toasted with Garlic & Herb - ya, that should kill off any morning breath! DH got the Honey Wheat toasted with Plain CC. It wasn't as big as say a Noah's but in a good way! The bagel size was smaller and the cream cheese wasn't SLATHERED on to the point you take one bit it goops the other end. It was a prefect blend of both!
Flavor full G&H cream cheese with real bits of garlic and fresh herbs. Asiago was salty enough you can tell there was cheese on it. DH said he liked his. Thats all the description I get from his - oh, except that his bagel was smaller than mine.
2 bagels toasted w/cream cheese =$4.75 Not too bad!
I live in SF and I look everywhere for a decent bagel...Noah's sucks and a few other franchise's are alright. This place is amazing. My mother got bagels from here on two separate occasions during our stay in Lake Tahoe. The everything bagel was the best I have ever tried amongst the other flavor's she brought to our cabin.
Next time I am up in Tahoe I will for sure be coming back.
Two Stars: "Meh. I've experienced better"....Fits the description of this place. I visited this place twice while on vacation (re-feral from a local person at Harrahs). Customer service I give a C- as they are very slow and do not seem to care too much about things. Below is how how it went.
"You walk in and and a lady takes your order (not happy) fills out a piece of paper when you place your order and hands it to you...like we are supposed to know what to do with it. She says in a "rude" way step aside and take it to the cash register (I would feel better if she would have done this). Girl at cash register grabs paper, rings it up (does not say too much) and hands your change to you over a tip jar. This place DOES NOT TAKE ATM or CREDIT CARDS (you can walk to a liquor store and pay a $5.00 fee if you do not have cash...so bring cash...and TY to the kind girl sending us that way."
Choice of breakfast food is very limited. Coffee is great...If you are in a hurry this is not your place.
Place is very clean inside...outside needs a lot of work.

The food is yummy, the coffee is just okay, and the service...I've had a couple of friendly experiences and a couple of downright rude ones -- the reviewer who described the "continue your personal conversation with your co-worker before helping me" attitude is pretty much dead on. Most of the time, the service is competent -- no wrong orders or egregious wait-times -- just don't hold your breath waiting for them to smile, thank you for coming, or wish you a good day. C'mon guys, brighten up the 'tude!
Missing two stars for rudeness, not accepting credit cards and not having wireless. It was a toss-up between two and three stars for me, but it is worth stopping in to pick up a bagel sandwich or smoothie. They're also the only place near me that serves bagels with lox, cream cheese & capers.
La Bagel Delight,
You've ruined me. Why don't you take a vacation from the cold and come visit me out on the west coast? I miss you.
Officially ruined,
Melissa
My mom just bought a cabin in Lake Tahoe less than a block away from this place. I, being a caffeine junky/coffee shop worker, had not acquired enough of a boost from my 2 cups of coffee 2 hours prior to make the car ride back enjoyable, so I forced her to stop here.
When I think about it, I'm pretty sure she made my drink before the couple in front of me. Ha. And she charged me for a normal small latte instead of adding money onto it for a double soy vanilla latte.
I DID forget to say light vanilla, so there being too much of it was my bad. She didn't burn the soy - which is uncommon and fantastic.
What is it with most shops not understanding that stopping before 140 (which then raises itself to 160) is perfectly acceptable for soy?
My mom told me I need to try out their amazing selection of bagels the next time I'm at the cabin.
I wouldn't say the coffee was amazing, but it was definitely better than any Peet's or S-bucks - by FAR. (Which is why I made my mom stop there in the first place - local over corporate ANY day.)
Oh, and don't forget to bring cash.
A nice place with lot of breakfast and even lunch options that are suitable for skiers. The food is good. Good options for vegetarians as well. The best thing is the coffee here. Nice setting and friendly staff. Only negative was the slow service if you are in a hurry to get to the resort.
I've been going here for breakfast for a number of years now, and despite the name, Lisa and her family run a well-mannered ship. If you're from the east coast, these aren't bagels, but if you're looking for something bagel-esque on the South Shore, this is your only real choice.
Reasonable prices, good breads (also made on premises - try the asiago cheese bread or the cinnamon raisin), obscenely huge cinnamon rolls (that make Cinnabon's look positively puny!), and a range of smoothies and coffees (for a huge pre-ski sugar high try the 'milky way') make for a great way to start the day. Even if it *is* a workday.
It's fine. That's it. Just... fine.
There is nothing spectacular about Rude Brothers. It's where I go to get a bagel (it's actually more like a roll with a hole in it) because it's near my house.
There is always a wait (which I can understand and tolerate on weekend mornings). But even if there's only one person in front of you it takes longer than it should. There are usually about 5 people behind the counter, but that doesn't seem to help the process along. Customer service is not their main focus.
Oh, and please be sure to continue your personal conversation with your co-worker before helping me though - I don't mind standing here.
Mmmmmmm, muenster melt with avocado on a spinach Parmesan bagel. This place is great, small selection of coffee, but flavored coffee is sacrilegious anyway. Decent prices, about what you'd expect to pay in a bagel shop. I only go on weekends when I can afford the time to hang out, but it's always worth it.
Check it out on your way to schralping the gnar at Heavenly.
They are rude and not impressed at all. Please go next door to sprouts if you want a snack. Avoid this place at all costs.
Bagels.
Great coffee house. Good service. I bought a couple of pounds of their beans and was very impressed!
Sun-dried tomato, toasted, with hummus, iced americano, and free packets. A little overpriced, but their hummus is Santa Cruz yummy. Though perhaps I should dock them a star because no one was rude to me and there were no males working there...
Stopped in before hitting the slopes and was very impressed with their bagels. Perfectly toasted and cream cheesed. Nice atmosphere w/ tables and chairs to suck down some coffee or juice and get energized for the morning ski runs.
There were a variety of bagels available and good coffee. I would go there again.
Fabulous bagels and an easy going atmosphere make this place a great morning stop. Try the melt with tomatoes and cheese on a bagel - it's heaven! Depending on the morning traffic, wait on a bagel may seem a bit long, but don't be discouraged - it's worth the time and it will help you r-e-l-a-x. After all, you're probably on vacation.
I am a part-time, reform, California Jew, so I may not know bagels, but I know when I bite into something delicious. These are some of the tastiest bagels I have ever had. They are not too chewy and not too bread-like. Despite the name, the staff is quite friendly.
Popped in for a quick bite to eat before heading out.. Bagels were perfectly toasted and my ham/cheese/egg bagel sandwich was awesome. As was the garlic bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese. We got our food quickly, but that wasn't too surprising since we stopped in at an off-peak hour (11am) and were pretty much the only ones there. I am definitely going back.
Love this place, great food and fast service. Veggie crunch is bomb.
yummy bagels, good menu or smoothies and sandwhiches. good service. highly recommended for a quick breakfast/lunch on the run!
