17 reviews for Ruby's Diner
my boo and i kame for the Citadel Outlet tree lighting...there was a bit of a wait but overall it was fine...
we got the cheeseburger which was good...
food is nothing special...service is ok
Another reason why Americans are overweight.....
Bacon Cheeseburger. 3.5 Inches thick, 4.5 inches in diameter, hot juicy beef patty, smothered with special sauce and melted swiss. Topped off with perfectly fried crispy smoked bacon...this baby is ready to do some major damage. Damage to your arteries, your heart, and out of your butt. Oh yes, this retro diner with friendly servers are ready to please. Burgers, shakes, and unlimited fries. Yes, UNLIMITED crispy hot FRIES. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable for this type of themed restaurant.
So once you're done pigging out and rolling your lardo butt out of Ruby's, you can take a nice stroll through the citidel.
Oh yeah, Ruby's has a section of the parking lot to themselves, 60 minutes only!
I don't know what's up with Ruby's Diner.. everything seems so fattening well not seems IS fattening! I ordered the BTLA (BTL with avocado) and the bread was super super buttery... made me a little sick. Unless you like all the grease try a healthier option!
Ate here today with the family, food was good and the place was nice and clean and very cool. The waiter was a little out of it, but overall the experience was nice. This was my second time at this location, i would go back again, its perfect when your out shopping and want to grab something to eat!
I hate to admit it. But even before I walked into this place, I was all set to give it a mediocre review. Why? Well, I figured if a place spends that much time, effort, and money to suspend an automobile in the middle of a restaurant...then how much attention can they give their food? But I was wrong...
After Christmas shopping for myself, I was hungry. But I didn't want the regular food court fare. So I decided to try this place out.
The parmesan fries were awesome. Yep, awesome. I had the BLT. The sandwich was on Texas toast with just the right amount of bacon and mayo. Yummers. Their carnitas were good too. Apparently they can do Mexican food, but I don't think I would venture beyond the carnitas. Why press your luck? Right?
Our server wasn't attentive, but he was there during the important moments: take order, serve food, and give check. So it was all good.
The bill for two people was under $20 with tip. Nice.
If you like 70's classic dining and hamburger, then this is the place. The have the best burgers that are not too greasy for you. I loved the environment, and our service was excellent.
Don't expect this place to be like McDonalds or any other fast food joint. It's more of a place to enjoy malts and fries, and they have various seasoned fries to choose. I recommend getting a cheeseburger or a rubyburger. Make sure to put ketchup and mustard because the condiments comes separately.
Bon Appetite!
Man, what is it with the restaurants in this area? Normally, I really like Ruby's. Back home in San Diego I go to the one in Mission Valley all the time and have never had anything to complain about. But a different story here...
We arrived to a half empty diner and were told we had to wait a few minutes to be seated? Huh? We figured,"No biggie!" but little did we know that was a telltale sign of things to come.
I ordered the "Fresh Roast Turkey Sandwich" which I normally get. It's one of my favorite turkey sandwiches period. When I got this one it tasted funny...not sure what it was...and there was a ton of lettuce in it. I ate half and left the other half uneaten. Normally, I devour this sandwich. But it tasted bleh! I don't know how you mess up a turkey sandwich. I mean, you don't really have to cook it after all. And it took like 25 minutes to get. 25 minutes to make a turkey sandwich for a partially filled restaurant?
On top of that the service was pretty bad. Again, the restaurant was half full yet our service was on par with molasses. Because my co-worker and I were using our company cards we needed separate checks. It was our fault that we didn't say anything initially but when we remembered and told our waitress she looked upset and flustered. Almost as though it was going to take all night to figure out how to split a ticket for 2 people. Wow. On top of that she moved as though there was only 1 customer in the restaurant. Come to think of it, the entire staff moved ridiculously slow. For a half empty restaurant you'd think you'd get your food pretty fast. Not the case here. Our waitress did stop by to see how we were doing. But her saying,"How is everything?", was more rhetorical than anything else because before we could even reply she was walking off. Lovely.
The shakes were still decent and the place looked nice and clean. But if I can help it...I'm not coming back here.
I've been to this diner many times for lunch. On my Friday off, I decided to go there for breakfast since I was hungry after dropping off my friend at the airport. Plus it was near work - I know, I said I had a Friday off but that part's irrelevant. Anyway - I went there for breakfast and ordered the cinnamon roll french toast combo. From the picture, it looked odd, but I thought I'd try it anyway. Especially since it had the star next to it, which means it's a "Ruby's Favorite." So I tried it... my thoughts:
IT WAS YUMMY!!!!
The cinnamon roll was not too sweet, nor over powered by the cinnamon. Actually it was sweet enough were you can eat it dry without butter or syrup... but the butter and syrup make it that much better. :) I also had some coffee. The combo came w/ you choice of style of eggs and type of meat (bacon, sausage, turkey sausage patty, etc.). I opted for the turkey sausage to try to be "healthy" hahaha... The turkey sausage was okay. I think they actually buy the ground up turkey and season it there. It didn't seem like one of those store bought turkey patties. I liked that it wasn't too crowded for breakfast and eating alone wasn't so bad. My server was quite attentive.
As for lunch though, the service tends to suck.
I am @ this location now. This is my 2nd time being here. I really like this place. Try the cinnamon roll french toast or the breakfast sliders. I haven't had lunch but I can imagine that its JUST as good... Thee have an "A" they are clean. Service is ok today... I've had better, but my order was correct. The man overcharged my card 21.99 to 38.00...?? Didn't understand that it it got resolved. Anyway...GREAT diner experience.
TOO much of everything
HUGE portions
OVERLY attentive waitstaff
SCRIPTED dialogue
i stepped inside and entered the twilight zone...
in Contemporary Art History terms - i walked into a SIMULACRUM - i walked into a space that is vaguely familiar to something - yet it has no original from which it's copying... It's a 50's "style" diner - however the food portions are nothing like what would have been served in the 50's.
and talking from a script??? c'mon, really? do you have to say the same thing the same way every time you seat people? and then stopping by our table every 2 minutes to ask if we're ok? can't i just have my conversation in peace?
and watch out for the sneaky dairy products...
I ordered a chicken soft taco - asked them to hold the cheese and no sour cream... i should be ok, right? NO... the taco sauce was white. white taco sauce? i've heard of red sauce & green sauce, but WHITE sauce? had to send it back... it had dairy...
just about everything on their menu had dairy - you can ask for stuff without the cheese - but just make sure you ask about everything - even down to the taco sauce.
food was good - fries were good - service was friendly and attentive... but just so over the top and too much (and not in a good way).
Not to be confused with Rubios Mexican diner...This is a well-executed Americana diner with lots of nice interior decor touches. The reason I was here isn't because I'm a rockabilly or anuthing. No, I was just hungry after visiting a sample sale around the corner and as I'd decided more shopping was in order I hit up the Cital Outlets too and spotted this clean, lively looking retro diner.
The service is pretty attentive, but my corner got busy and as I was paying the bill things slowed down in the service dept. But that's ok.
The menu was broad but I opted for the classic like burgers and fries. With a little twist - i don't eat beef so I got the turkey burger and the garlic fries. I was very pleased that there were turkey and chicken options for the burger. But, I do wished I ordered regular fries or asked for the "garlic on the side". They weren't messing around with that minced garlic. No complaints, but garlic breath ;)
If i had enough room I'd get the milkshake/malt. I doubt I'll be back unless I return something from my extended shopping trip in Citadel as it's a bit far from home and work. However, I like this place and now I know where Commerce is. Had no idea it's the place I drive past on my way to San Diego...
I came by earlier this week and wanted to check this oldies hamburger joint out. My girlfriend and I went after a quick run of shopping. As I was checking out the menu, what was most advertised was the sliders. The all American Kobe sliders looked great!! I wanted to get them but wanted to try out a burger instead. The avocado burger was of my choice and it was delicious. Although the burger reminded me of fatburger without the "soul", it still competes as a good burger. I am willing to come back to Ruby's but probably not the Citadel location. (since it is waaay out of my area) Woodland hills seem to be the closer location, so one day I shall visit.
Breaded zucchini and chili fries were good. The latter was crispy-soggy. I couldn't finish my garlic style fries or the 3 Little Pigs sliders. I loved the BLTA instead. Onion rings are great.
I used to work here and everything is really good here, my personal favorite are the chicken fingers. reeeeally good shakes too!
There use to be a Ruby's in Pasadena. My wife loved their super-burger (Parmesan grilled bread and avocado), and I liked the fact that it wasn't Italian or Japanese food. Not that I don't like Italian or Japanese, but in Old Town Pasadena that's about all there is.
The Ruby's in Pasadena is now gone, so when we're out and spot one we eat there out of nostalgia. This Ruby's has a restored classic automobile from the 50s parked above the cashier. Based on that, you can imagine the menu: burgers, fries, fish-n-chips, shakes, and a pot roast blue plate special.
When we walked in for an early lunch at 11am. I was surprised to see a half-dozen tables with dirty dishes on them and patrons long gone. Not a good sign. We were quickly seated, and that's when the fine service stopped. Our waiter was attentive with drink refills, but 30-40 minutes waiting for a couple burgers and kids meals isn't pleasant. The kids get restless and someone always ends up crying--usually one of the kids.
My food was ok. I had a Santa Fe burger with a side of Jalapenos and a lot of Tabasco. That made it interesting. If I didn't spice it up, it would've been boring. I do like the food, though; sometimes I'm just in the mood for 50s fare including a burger served warm in a red vinyl booth.
love the food here but services sucks.
I remeber when this place first opened the service was great
now it is slow and unpleasent.
however the food is great kinda over pirced but good
I love this place. I can't believe they closed down the one in Pasadena. I guess people just don't know about Ruby's compared to Johnny Rockets. Guess in Old Town there's only room for one food joint that has a 50s vibe. When I found out they were opening one in the Citdel I was like that's grrreat, since its close to where I work. Food wise they are about the same as JRs, but they have more variety of stuff on their menu. They even serve breakfast. When ever you want to feel like in a episode of Happy Days, check this place out.
