Okay, first a diner is in a diner car not in a retail space that used to be a book store or a leather handbag store. It totally fits the mall atmosphere (that's not a great compliment). I think the food is OK and that accounts for the 2 stars. But decent food alone only gets you a decent rating. The atmosphere is like a theme park and since its in the mall it really adds to the over the top theme park feel. The space itself has no redeeming qualities and it feels more like you're in a pharmacy. Actually, I take that back because I've been in pharmacies that have more atmosphere. If you go to this "restaurant" will someone please pick up my prescription for vikadin? Zzzzzzzzzzzzz!

It's actually been years since I've been to Rudy's and there's a good reason for that. Rudy's can suck it.
My ex-husband and I (well, we were married at the time, I don't regularly hang out with my ex-husband or anything. He's a good guy, but you know, I'm kind of remarried and that would just be awkward and I fully realize that I could have said "my now, ex-husband," but I like to watch myself write) were in the mall, and we figured that Rudy's was a good choice for a quick meal.
Just as we were walking in, we spotted a "then" co-worker of mine, who told us not to waste our time, because the service sucked. I figured that I'd give it the benefit of the doubt
The service? It sucked. The waitress took forever to get to us (it wasn't crowded). She took our order. Disappeared and then when she came back with our food, she dropped our check off, stating that she was going to be getting off her shift, but if we needed anything, we could flag someone down.
WTF?
When have you ever been to a "restaurant" where someone says that? Normally when a server is getting off their shift, they come by with their replacement or the replacement comes by and alerts you that they're your new server.
And of course no one around to be found.
I wrote corporate headquarters a scathing email, and let them know how disappointed I was in their craptastic staff and that I would never ever go back again. And what did they do? they offered to send me a bunch of gift certificates.
Seriously. There's tons of places to eat in the mall. Not that any one is better than another, but there's no special appeal to this place other than it looks like a 50's diner. That should not be enough of an incentive for anyone to love this place.

When i was in college and going to KOP was a big adventure, i ALWAYS wanted to go here. I was introduced to Rubys by my friend from Southern California, where they are everywhere! This place was great.
It is normally pretty crowded if you go at like exactly 12 or around dinner time. I reccommend going at an "off" time
The milkshakes are awesome. My favorite is the mocha although they always have seasonal ones that are tasty.
I always seemed to order the chicken Cesar sandwich which was always fantastic. The one thing that was annoying is that their sandwiches don't come with fries, so you have to order them separately, but you can always get a big one to split
They have a sandwich that is pretty much like the day after thanksgiving sandwich and it is fantastic. They also have pretty good seafood options. My dad loves the fish tacos, which he orders every time... just for the "halibut"

Ruby's is a fun lunch spot. There's even a toy train that makes its rounds above you while you eat! The interior of this particular Ruby's is like a 50's diner, like every other Ruby's Diner. It wasn't TOO packed when I came here a few weeks ago, so we were able to be seated quickly.
I ordered American Kobe sliders (mini-hamburgers; $10) and a nice cold milkshake (mocha) to wash it down. There was so much milkshake I couldn't finish it. Their sliders are "super-premium" (whatever that means), with a light coating of thousand island-esque RubySauce and carmelized onions. The sliders had tender thin slices of Kobe steak that were as juicy as the buns they were on. I requested jalapenos on the side, which set off the onions nicely. Service was great - recommended!
UPDATE 6/4/2008: Came back, tried the sliders again, and they were juicy juicy - and our server (Emily L.) rocked so hard, so fast, I didn't know what hit me!
